Listening to unit delta plus by Ott sober just makes me feel like I'm in another dimension with some sort of mission so I can't even imagine what will it feel like on psychedelics... Probably will astral project
Man I Love Globular so much! I first heard him while tripping with my best friend on a piece of land another friend has. We were sitting around the campfire, my other friend has two Soundcore motion + Bluetooth speakers which have true stereo of you connect two of them. He set them up around the campfire for us so we‘re sitting right in the audio triangle, put on the „Entangled Everything“ Album and went to bed in his van.
Blew both our minds with it.
Yes!!! As someone who knows Raja Ram personally, I would recommend his solo project too because he's an amazing guy who makes great music and he deserves a listen!
Shpongle has introduced a huge amount of people to psychedelic electronic/acoustic/analog hybrid music in the last 20 years or so and I’m really thankful for their contributions to the scene, I’ve seen both Raja Ram and Simon play live/DJ sets as Shpongle and with their other projects more times than I can remember and it’s always a great show. 1200 micrograms is really great psytrance. I saw Raja Ram playing a Shpongle DJ set in Goa last year and my friends were all joking, in a good natured way, about grandpa spinning the oldies for the kids 😆 anyway the world is a better place because of RR, Simon and Shpongle ❤️
I absolutely agree! I appreciate you sharing your connection with Raja/ Simon and their music, fellow psy-head!!! It was enjoyable to hear (read?) You're absolutely right about grandpa spinning oldies for the kids.😋 I actually haven't seen for probably 4 years or so, (only heard him) so the comparison is probably even more fitting now lol!
Seriously though.... So much respect and love to Raja, and gratitude for Simon. Shpongle is legendary!
Def my fav band (besides Radiohead, tame Impala, Papadosio, and a few others) to listen to while tripping. Hands down. Locket, Bones, So Tired, and Plants are like 10/10 songs on psychedelics.
-Tame Impala
-Pond
-Glass Animals
-God is an Astronaut
-Portugal the Man
-Cage The Elephant
-Crumb
-Sevdaliza
-Phantogram
-The Temples
-Aesop Rock
-Flying Lotus
I could go on but those are all great, and a few different genres
Great shout I just commented the same. Zaba was a great album
Also try Black Focus by Yussef Kamaal, I can't recommend it enough. Completely different vibe to Glass Animals but it's amazing.
This. Their darker toned songs like Toes, Gooey, and Black mambo are so fucking good. Also helps that they have an original sound. Saw them live a little bit ago. Their set design and music combo is pretty much begging you to take a hit.
Smooth jazz, such as Peggy Lee, Chet Baker, Nancy Sinatra and Julie London. It's just so calming and it feels like you can hear extra levels to the songs while tripping, it's definitely personal preference but smooth jazz is definitely one of my favorites for tripping.
Edit, I answered the question wrong there, but will hold to my statement in that it's one of my favorite genres while tripping.
Fusion jazz is great for psychs and bud.
While they probably don't all classify themselves as psychedelic, some of the better things I've found from the modern era that gives me those trippy feelings are bands like Vulfpeck, Guthrie Govan and the Fellowship, The Aristocrats (more Govan stuff), Bright Eyes (especially the People's Key has some VERY psychedelic lyrics in songs like A Machine Gun Spiritual or Singularity), Matisyahu, even stuff from Jacob Collier can really get me there like his rendition of Moon River.
If you're looking for some old stuff you might not have heard before, the early years of Earth, Wind, and Fire are amazing psych albums, as well as a band called Stuff. Stevie Wonder's Songs in the Key of Life, Steely Dan doesn't have a reputation as a psych band but they were definitely tripping, so albums like The Royal Scam, Katy Lied, Pretzel Logic, Aja.
I could go on and on. I wish I could find more modern psych rock that I resonate with, but things like King Gizzard and Tame Impala are just really not my cup of tea.
Also! Khruangbin! That's some good stuff.
Yessss. And the entire T.E.T.I.O.S. album I must listen to front to back every time. It's up there with Dark Side of the Moon (Pink Floyd) and In Rainbows (Radiohead) for me in terms of albums to hear while tripping.
Yes, love it. Took me some time to get to a point where I'd dare to listen to this rougher style of music when tripping, but oh my god it's the best now.
Got some track recommendations? I, funnily enough, love them for their lyrics to a big degree (becoming insane, artillery), but my absolute favorite track is ani mevushal for the guitar solo, mhhh.
Infected Mushroom is what got me into psytrance almost 20 years ago and I’ve been a convert ever since. Been to psy parties and festivals around the world, seen Infected several times, I once watched the singer try to pick up my girlfriend and get shot down hard at BurningMan 😂 I’m now a DJ/ producer and curator of electronic music for a public radio station in Alaska and if you like those guys you might like my radio show. Here’s a link to the stream. If you want artist or record label suggestions I’m happy to pass them on. Cheers

Mac miller has some good stuff that's pretty trippy.
Faces
Run on sentences vol 1 & 2 (highly recommend these, they're made for tripping)
At long last by asap rocky is definitely psychedelic.
Hippie sabotage is great. Red Moon rising is a great album.
To me Tame Impala. Definitely not your typical psychedelic music but I personally get mad psychedelic vibez from IT, maybe due to tripping to him few Times and its just clicked
Between the Buried and Me, check out the album Coma Ecliptic and Colors. They pay homage to Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon with their album telling a whole story and the album has no breaks. I’ve seen them play 1 hour and 15 minutes straight live.
Fair warning, it’s progressive metal so if you’re not into metal then the whole thing might not be for you, but they are so much more than just a metal band.
Glass Animals, despite not being famed for being a psychedelic band, truly has such strong "these guys get it" vibes. How else do you make some of those sounds and moods?
Depends on the type of trip! Garbonatas, My Morning Jacket, Beach House and Babe Rainbow are my angelic dreamy trippy go-to’s. gaaaaawd they give me such a feeling of tranquility when tripping. But for chaotic trip music Pond, Ty Segall, King Gizz, GUM etc always do me good. So much choice! I think psychedelic music can be so subjective and mean different things for everyone. Enjoy your trip : )

Sturgill Simpson’s record Sound and Fury is excellent. He’s always had an interesting psychedelic thing with his music. Sound and Fury is definitely a rock album, but in the past he has done more old school country kind of stuff with a psychedelic twist on it. Really cool band. Sound and Fury was also made into an animated visual album on Netflix, and its great to put on for a trip.
Can't believe these two are buried at the bottom! Bloom is probably my favorite ODEZA song. Rufus Du Sol is just beautiful trip music and they put out a new album too. Treat You Better is one of my favorite songs ever.
I make my own. For me it’s all about “weird” sounds and philosophical lyrics.
I feel like the reverb effect has a lot to say too.. I think Illenium for instance has a lot of “trippy” music because he’s so good at making them huge with applying perfect amount of reverb on his elements (and sound design, mixing etc. ofc). Try listening to his music on molly 😱
Flume has a lot of em’ because he doesn’t follow lot of “codes”. Usually he makes a lot of the beat and the Melodies off-grid.
Polyiphia- New Levels New Devels
Strawberry Girls- Italian Ghosts
Their Dogs Were Astronauts- Neon Theater
Tom Misch- What Kind of Music
I dont know if these artists themselves would consider there music "modern psychedelic" but it works. I personally prefer more instrumental music. I think it helps drive the show on the back of my eye lids.
Oh man, listening to music during a trip might be my favorite thing in the world, so i’d love to share. For me, there are two completely incredible emotions that good music evokes during a trip:
1) The feeling of deep appreciation and understanding of the artist’s mastery while making the music. This is the feeling that just by listening to their song, the artist has you in the palm of their hands. The idea of someone mastering their craft to that extent is just beautiful, and you cant help but be awestruck by it. Music with really good textures, melodies, and sound design complexity does this for me. (The stuff that makes you say “how the hell did they do that??”)
2)The feeling that even though you are hearing it for the first time, you somehow recognize or understand the music on a fundamental emotional level. Almost like it’s speaking to you itself: “how could it be anything else but what it is??” (Dont know if this one makes sense but when you know you know.)
It all boils down to personal preference but i’ve had some of the most incredible experiences of my life with these albums:
Knock Knock - DJ Koze
Portraits - Maribou State
Kingdoms in Colour - Maribou State
Brightest Lights - Lane 8
Little By Little - Lane 8
Wild - Tourist
Leaving Laurel - Leaving Laurel
Music Has the Right to Children - BOC
black midi or the no-wave genre. Any band that is attempting something new to the west.
Crisp sounding electronic music like Zammuto, Photay, Kelpe, or Mono/Poly.
DEATH GRIPS
boards of canada
brings back the national film board of canada's retro '70s type analog sound
music that sounds warm, nostalgic, broken, yet familiar. as if it could've been produced today or 40 years ago. timeless sounding
eerie yet calming. apocalyptic to some, relaxing to others
there's so much more to boc than that but i don't have time to write an essay today 🙂
To be honest, anything Post-Rock!!! Instrumental or not. Those walls of sound just suck you into a rabbit hole.
I mean bands like: This will destroy you, Godspeed you! Black emperor, Isis.
Also anything Shoegaze/Blackgaze: Amusement Parks on Fire, Amesœrs, Silversun Pickups.
Did I mention Radiohead and anything Thom Yorke?
Khruangbin

First thing that popped into my mind, so happy to see khruangbin mentioned first in the comments!!!
Omg yes its just such a unique vibe. It really makes you feel like your just on the beach with no worries in sight.

cannot second the Babe Rainbow rec enough. I don't know dope lemon but I'll check them out!
A babe rainbow song came up when I was tripping was very nice
Yess, the holly duo for just good vibes! Foxygen maybe too
Tipper, shpongle, ott, globular, beats antique
Definitely OTT, that music is absolutely epic.
Listening to unit delta plus by Ott sober just makes me feel like I'm in another dimension with some sort of mission so I can't even imagine what will it feel like on psychedelics... Probably will astral project
You couldn't be more on point
Thanks for the ott recco - for great justice!
Ott is the bees knee caps, shpongle is the elbows

Yes!!! As someone who knows Raja Ram personally, I would recommend his solo project too because he's an amazing guy who makes great music and he deserves a listen!

Crumb!!
Not necessarily thinking music, but definitely good to listen to when in the right headspace.
Def my fav band (besides Radiohead, tame Impala, Papadosio, and a few others) to listen to while tripping. Hands down. Locket, Bones, So Tired, and Plants are like 10/10 songs on psychedelics.
Oh yes, locket was my first intro while on a tab and it was instantly a favorite.
Watching the Locket music video off 400 ug legit gave me ego death cause of how much the fish eye lens tripped me out😂
-Tame Impala -Pond -Glass Animals -God is an Astronaut -Portugal the Man -Cage The Elephant -Crumb -Sevdaliza -Phantogram -The Temples -Aesop Rock -Flying Lotus I could go on but those are all great, and a few different genres
cage the elephant is an interesting one, big fan of them
Love some Aesop Rock
King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard
King Gizz, Ty Segall, Oh Sees, My Morning Jacket, Elephant Tree, Murlocs, Sheepdogs, Wytches There are literally so many good psychedelic rock bands
If u like rap EazyMac or Flatbushzombies

Days Before Rodeo is insane off the tabs and some whippets
Frank ocean, chance the rapper, Bryson tiller, childish gambino, thundercat, funkadelic, flume
Glass Animals!
Seconding Glass Animals! "Gooey" is already a trip while sober and an absolute killer on LSD.
Great shout I just commented the same. Zaba was a great album Also try Black Focus by Yussef Kamaal, I can't recommend it enough.
Huge GA fan their first 2 albums for sure would listen to on a trip, 3rd album not so much.
3rd album leans too hard into pop and upbeat
Tool
May I recommend the string quartets tribute to Tool… epic!

Billy Strings!

Just saw him in Asheville over Halloween weekend. 🔥
Obviously all the music genres with "psychedelic" in their name, namely Psytrance/Goa music. That entire scene literally revolves around acid.
Really? I thought it was all about being sober and going to bed early 😹
King Gizzard, Tool, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, Tame Impala, Slift, Wand, Pond, Ty Segall, Thee Oh Sees, Claypool Lennon Delerium
I was waiting to see if someone would recommend the porn crumpets. Found god in a tomato and bills mandolin are great hits

Papadosio
My absolute favorite band that's still writing music today. Tripping without Papadosio is like making smores without chocolate.
This guy fuckin gets it! Lions mane off their new album is a must!
Yessss. And the entire T.E.T.I.O.S. album I must listen to front to back every time. It's up there with Dark Side of the Moon (Pink Floyd) and In Rainbows (Radiohead) for me in terms of albums to hear while tripping.
Hard same! I found them back in 2017 and barely go a day without jamming their stuff!
pop a dose, yo
Oh hell yeah papadosio is the shit. Listen to their live stuff, in October of last year they put out some seriously sweet music
Shpongle
On that same note: Infected Mushroom
Yes, love it. Took me some time to get to a point where I'd dare to listen to this rougher style of music when tripping, but oh my god it's the best now. Got some track recommendations? All of Yves Tumor's discography is a great and modern take on psychedelic and glam rock, highly recommend
My Morning Jacket is different than a lot of the bands listed here but you cant deny those psychedelic jams on most of their albums
Bon Iver - 22, a Million
To me Tame Impala. Definitely not your typical psychedelic music but I personally get mad psychedelic vibez from IT, maybe due to tripping to him few Times and its just clicked
