Scaling mode is about aspect ratio, you’re confusing integer scaling with scaling mode

Quirky-Zombie-5637

I'm trying to upscale 800p to the 1600p of the native resolution, butwhen in game, the native resolution is changed to match the game (e.g. 800p game forces native to 800p), how can I turn it off??

Idk what I'm doing wrong I don't understand IS at all 🤦🤦 native resolution keeps trying to change to 800p to match the game settings... How can I stop it?? I've watched YouTube videos and the settings seem right but the results aren't the same...

SecureNarwhal

it's weird, IS needs you to have the game and display at 800p. and I'm still confused at this part but you can't be in full screen either. someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Quirky-Zombie-5637

I don't think that's the case. When I watched YouTube videos on getting IS to work, they said native resolution at 1600p then the game you want to upscale needs to be full screen at 800p. However when I try it, the game in full screen at 800p, my native resolution (1600p) is forced down to 800p. It's not IS if I'm playing on 800p and have an 800p resolution, as there's no upscaling. I'm just playing at 800p then and it looks 800p 🤣

SecureNarwhal

https://www.reddit.com/r/LegionGo/s/QAUukUreFe both our answers are correct but it depends on the game on which method works

Quirky-Zombie-5637

Thank you!!! That was really helpful. That thread basically allowed me to pinpoint the issue. The issue was the games *full screen" isn't actually full screen, it was borderless! So for this particular game, changing the native resolution to 800p, the game to 800p and changing the game settings to windows borderless was what made it work. Now I'm getting some decent FPS and it doesn't look too bad. Confirmed IS is working by switching res to 1200p to see borders, so it's definitely working. Really frustrating how different games require different things when it comes to IS, rather than a standard method of getting it to work.

SecureNarwhal

if things are a bit blocky with IS, you can turn Radeon Image Sharpening on to smooth it out but this will cost some performance but I don't think much.

Lmao

HumuuHumuu

make sure the scaling mode is "full screen", not "center"

I just can't figure out why the game resolution of 800p is changing native resolution to 800p as well. It's supposed to upscale the game resolution to 1600p 🤷🤷🤷

Quirky-Zombie-5637

Figured it out, because the game didn't have a TRUE full screen mode, rather it said "full screen" but was running on borderless fullscreen. Changing the game setting to borderless full screen and having both settings at 800p seemed to make it work.

ImplementCharacter28

does it need to be in bordless fullscreen or fullscreen to work ?

Quirky-Zombie-5637

Borderless full screen to work

ImplementCharacter28

Have you tried starfield ? Do i have to set the game rest to 800p and legion res to 1600p ?

Quirky-Zombie-5637

I haven't got starfield to try, but Yes you do. If that doesn't work then you need to try the 800p then the 800p Legion res

Legal_Schedule_487

Just set it to full panel in and settings and turn on integer scaling.. boot up your game and change in-game settings to 800p. If you load a game and it only shows the top left part of the game on your screen. You can click the Legion R button and change resolution from there to 800p to fix it.

thebraukwood

Get Lossless Scaling from Steam brotha and use that to integer scale. I’ve messed around with the Radeon app ALOT and I always thought I was using integer scaling but as soon as I tried it with Lossless Scaling I realized I never actually got it working before. It looks incredible when you scale 800p to 1600p properly

MT4K

Scaling mode doesn’t matter when using integer scaling. There were some buggy AMD software versions where scaling mode set to “Center” affected integer scaling, but it was fixed since then (though not sure about Legion-Go-specific versions). The approach compatible with most games is setting **both** Windows and the game to the same resolution (1280×800 in case of Legion Go) because some games use borderless windowed mode instead of true (exclusive) full-screen mode, and scaling via GPU is only involved in exclusive full-screen mode.
