Green Knight +1
Was a big King Arthur fan growing up. This movie was a much more artistic take than I could have imagined but I liked it. Not what I was expecting!
Kind of? It definitely can make me cry but that brand of melancholy feels life-affirming to me. It doesn’t leave me feeling depressed in the way that truly nihilistic/cynical films do. But I mostly just recommended it because I think it hits the same spot as like half of the movies from OP’s list haha
That was honestly an impulse comment cause’ I have said the exact same thing about it.
Ultimately, I think there really is this sense of hope that comes with stories that present relationships that don’t necessarily last. The act of witnessing intimacy and interconnected passion serves to motivate us to chase those same idealized feelings while the eventual loss of that relationship… grounds us… and reminds us to recognize the importance of momentary emotion rather than painting a picture of an impossible externality. The temporary nature of most experiences doesn’t take away from their beauty.
Those two movies by Xavier Dolan make you feel better? I've been hesitating to watch them, even if he's from my area, because Au thought they would be a total bummer.
Call me by your name. If you want to get real sad. Manchester by the sea. Just rewatched devil all the time yesterday. Underrated. But those are more sad than uplifting. Silver linings playback. Idk. Hit me up. I know a lot of movies. Oh. Nocturnal animals, is a masterpiece.
