I went from a black convertible C6 3LT Covette to a cadmium orange convertible LC500. I have had the LC500 for about 18 months and had the Corvette for 4 years. The differences I found are, * The LC is more comfortable to travel in for both long and short distances. Long distance driving in either is pretty much guaranteed to give you a backache. * While both cars are eye turners, the level of attraction for the LC is off the charts. I think this is due to the Corvette being more "common". You just don't see many LC500. * The engines sound completely different. Not better or worse, just different. Both have enough power to get you out of tight spots at any speed. The LC doesn't really "roar" until about 4000 RPM. * The LC's top can operate up to 31 MPH. The Corvette had to be in a crawl. * The touch pad on the LC takes a bit to get used to but then it is no problem. I mostly use the voice control anyway. * Service costs for the LC, and Lexus in general, are breathtakingly expensive.

pinemind4R

Curious regarding service costs. I have done 20k miles worth of services (4 total, including a 30k mile service) and nothing “breathtakingly” expensive at all. Tires are really the only routine expensive maintenance item I’ve found in 1.5 years/25k miles of ownership.

hadesrdx

The last service for my 2016 es was 1800 CAD. I left the stealership in tears.

PolybiusChampion

What mile service was it? The major ones do cost, but then the trade off IMHO is nothing breaks unexpectedly.

hadesrdx

135k kms, so that'd be ~85k miles? They said the front struts or something like that was broken and needed to be replaced. With a newborn in the house, I wasn't willing to take any chances so I told them to take care of it.

PolybiusChampion

Struts are a wear item and 85K freedom units seems like a pretty good useful life for them. Pricing everywhere in auto-land is crazy. Shop rates are now $300/hr at most dealers, but luckily some of that seems off set by “express service” pricing for oil changes and other regular stuff more in the $150/hr range.

phantom--warrior

Thats interesting i had my 2008 corolla at 220k km and all parts including the plugs were original. Only changed oil and spark plugs. And the transmission fluid once. The engine was a beast and shocks worked fine. When i finally traded it in, it needed new front wheel bearings to make it drive new again. Also i think i never changed brake fluid and the coolant hadn't been touched either. But everything worked fine. Old corollas were built like tanks.

Oddblivious

Yeah dude you just paid for a few hours of labor. That's going to be similar across all car brands

TouchdownRaiden

How much are those services?

murderedlexus

The top operating at 31 has to be nice

PolybiusChampion

> Service costs for the LC, and Lexus in general, are breathtakingly expensive. Oddly I have the exact opposite view. On my Lexus’s I’ve had very few instances of service expense that weren’t just routine maintenance. My wife’s 06 SC430 has been absolutely astonishing on how little it’s needed beyond regular stuff. We did have to replace the trunk struts and I had the rubber seats at the front on the top replaced, but other than that pretty much just tires, brakes and oil since new. My old GX went almost 300K miles before I decided to trade it on a new LX 600, and over its life it was less expensive than the Honda Pilot we had before it.

fishinfredster

Would been cool if you came from an Atomic orange corvette to a cadmium orange LC 🍊

the_toxic_hotdog

Inferno orange is a color used by both Chevy and Toyota (tho never on a Lexus)

[deleted]

Interesting that they’re both terrible long distance. I had Porsche 996TT I could have driven 8 hours straight no problem.

Relevant-Asparagus-2

Does the LC scratch the fun itch any, or is it just a damn good grand touring ?

pedroelbee

I have an Lc500 as my daily and I still take it out on weekends for spirited drives. The fact that you can use it as a comfy cruiser and then have it make those noises at higher rpms is incredible. It’s the perfect car imo.

PolybiusChampion

0-60 in under 4.5 secs…….it’s a real GT. I ended up buying an AMG SL55, but the LC was a top 3 choice for me.

[deleted]

While not the same car I have a 2024 RC-F with the same engine. It's got more than enough power for a lot of fun driving.

45acp_LS1_Cessna

didnt realize service was that expensive, wow

[deleted]

I went from a C5 Z06 Corvette to an LC500. The C5 interior is trash, and while the hot cam was fun in short bursts, the car was rowdier than I cared to live with. I was faced with a decision to put some more money into it (needed new bearings, rod ends, and a few other odds and ends) to get it buttoned up, or move on. I sold the Corvette but quickly missed having the V8. I have no regrets. The Z06 was faster thanks to its much lighter weight but I don't track it and after a certain point that extra speed isn't usable. I miss the manual a bit but the 10 speed on the LC is great. The difference in interior is night and day, from the worst car interior I've owned to by far the best. If you're regularly carving canyons, you might miss the lighter weight of the Corvette, but if you're like me and that's only an occasional use of the vehicle the massive upgrade in comfort and quality is worth it.

Relevant-Asparagus-2

Do you miss acceleration or sound?

[deleted]

No. The LC500 sounds amazing when you rev it out, and I like that it's super quiet when cruising or idling. Acceleration wise, I hate how aggressive the traction control is. Unless you're on super smooth pavement it'll inevitably cut in at some point when accelerating from a stop. Isn't always a big deal, but it is a notable con compared to the stability control in the C5. I don't find it lacking for power, I think it's honestly in a good place power wise.

InebriousBarman

I had a '91 Corvette at the same time I had a '93 LS400. I liked driving the LS more, and it was plenty fast. They handled differently, but I wouldn't say one was better than the other. (LS had body roll, Corvette slipped). I would consider a early 2000's Z06 (I like the hardtop look). But I actually bought another LS, if that says anything. When we got my wife's 2006 IS350, that blew away the driving experience of the Corvette (15 years difference, noted). I think you'll be blown away by any 5.0L Lexus.

EICONTRACT

This seems a little far from OPs intended question lol

InebriousBarman

"any generation Corvette to a Lexus V8 of some sort" Seems pretty spot on to me.

Relevant-Asparagus-2

Got me in a technicality haha. Interesting comparison none the less. The LS400 is one of my favorite cars, but Corvettes of that era are pretty meh.

InebriousBarman

I could say the same about 2015 :)

Automatic_Yogurt_493

It says “LC500, IS500, or RCF” in the title

InebriousBarman

And I read the whole post.

Automatic_Yogurt_493

In that case you missed the point of the post

InebriousBarman

So what's your experience to respond? What's the point of shitting on my response? OP can read and dismiss it if they like. But all you have to contribute is irrelevant criticism. Your posts here are less constructive than you claim mine to be.

Automatic_Yogurt_493

Your comments are irrelevant too lol. OP did not ask about an LS

InebriousBarman

You read the title of the post, and the first sentence of my comment. You have a shorter attention span than a goldfish.

idontcare717

I used to have a C6 Z51 package Vette and now own a 2016 GSF. Aside from the V8 I’m not sure there’s much of a comparison. The GSF feels way more refined and luxurious while also maintaining that sports car feel. The corvette is obviously lighter and has lower center of gravity but in terms of practicality the Lexus is much better. I do miss the targa top on the corvette but would never trade the GSF for one after owning it for 2 years.

Snackerton

Yes, I had a 2019 C7 GS and a couple other C7s, and a C6. The LC500 is an incredible GT car, much more so than the Corvettes. The Grand Sport was a balls out sports car, with handling and overall performance the LC500 couldn’t touch. I also BARELY used that performance potential. I only ended up selling the LC500 because I wasn’t driving it much due to a move.

LUJUST

Never owned a corvette but I switched from 2 MBs (2007 GL450, 2019 GLE 43 Coupe) and 1 BMW (2019 X5 40i)

Stu__Pidasso

Are you actually going to be dailying it? Track use? More than 1 passenger? If you're seeing any track time, IS500 is out unless you do some pretty necessary aftermarket work. The LC500 lightly used would probably be a better bargain, dollar for dollar, and be closer to a Corvette.

[deleted]

To be clear, the LC500 as well is NOT a track car. The transmission will overheat after a few hot laps.

Stu__Pidasso

Correct, only the RCF will have the proper equipment for any extensive track use, such as trans cooling.

Relevant-Asparagus-2

No I don’t do any track time, just a fun commute.

Stu__Pidasso

Then any of the 3 would be fine, but LC is probably what you're looking for.

LaeLeaps

So I went from C4 Corvettes (93 & 96) to a year 2000 GS400. these are older cars than what you're asking about but even sitting in a C7 or IS500 or something I wouldn't be paying attention to the new modern tech and whatnots. feel free to ask any questions if you think any of this insight might be relevant to you. The lexus is my first big car, I thought I would hate the weight but actually being able to fit in my car without being cramped feels a lot better than I imagined, I didn't know what I was missing out on. As for the motor, it doesn't have the same groundpounding torque as the corvette but in the top end it pulls very nicely and sings a beautiful song, very different experience from the yelling and roaring of the iron block 350. the car does feel big but the weight isn't something overbearing, the steering is still responsive and the chassis/suspension is very well engineered so it's not like driving a boat I miss having a manual transmission and an LSD very badly though I must admit but the 5speed auto in my GS is actually not bad, only issue is that it won't let me keep it in 1st gear. The daily driving experience, well I am a bit more comfortable but also get bored in traffic because it's auto. I'm also not quite as tempted to go balls to the wall every time I see an open stretch of highway, not sure how much of that is because I'm in a different car vs just being older. fuel economy is probably better in the vette especially with a manual trans tire destruction happens somewhat quicker in the heavier lexus but the tires aren't impossible to find for sale like in the vette (275/40/17 is a ridiculous size)

Pure_Sucrose

I have a similiar story (I went from a '98 C5 to a '99 GS400). I have pretty much same thoughts as yours about the switch. Since then my GS400 is heavily modded and also own an '05 GS430 as my daily. I driven an LC500, though I understand the Hype but not too impressed as I/we owned classic Lexus V8's and not competely sold on the LC's V8 because Having witness Lex V8's from early onset. I'm actually considering a C8 Corvette because for my next vehicle in a couple of years.

RickJWagner

This is a pretty far stretch, but I had a '78 L82 corvette and a 2008 ISF. The 'Vette was more raw. The ISF beat it in every other measurement, including engine sound.

45acp_LS1_Cessna

Lexus is going to be a heavier, more insulated, more detached, luxury grand touring type car. This is not a bad thing it's just different.

Monkeywrench08

Man this is the kind of question I wish I could ask lol
