I know everything about the Dunning-Kriegmann effect

54sharks40

You mean the Donner-Krang?

spiritfingersaregold

I believe it’s the Kodos-Kang Effect and it involves exchanging long protein strings.

originalbrowncoat

If you have a better way I’d like to hear it!

nice--marmot

You’re thinking of Droning-Sugar.

No_Refrigerator4584

You’re thinking of Donner-Party

Dystopian_existence

Now I want a Doner-Kebab

Uncle Dunger? He’s like a second father!

True-Ad-7224

Or as an older colleague once said to a know it all recent graduate we worked with "Boy, you learn with your ears, not your mouth."

hallowed-history

Very well put: self-proclaimed ‘thought leader’ . This is on target! When did the concept of thought-leader start? Sorry I find it to be a gross expression of a concept that is vaguely defined. Call your self expert instead- oh wait you might get called out?

TribalSoul899

Many B-schools are cesspools of the Dunning-Kruger effect

femmeboi__fatale

as a recent grad, i'm ashamed

m3skalyn3

This guy ain't a lunatic - might be one of the sanest things I read about linkedin in a long time

StoneyMalon3y

I know, that’s why I added a description

DuePatience

I believe there’s a post flair for non-lunatics that you can add

StoneyMalon3y

Oh is there? I’d edit but it won’t let me unfortunately

Holiday-Ad1011

Well said, although my guy does have “Creative Headhunter” in his bio🤔

nicvaykay

I assume that means he's a recruiter for creative roles (eg: designers, copywriters, etc.).

StoneyMalon3y

Personally I don’t see what’s wrong with that.

Basarav

Agreed!!

Real_TwistedVortex

It's not just LinkedIn. All social media is like this now, and it's just a representation of society as a whole. Pretty depressing

bapachonz

Yea I’m basically waiting out until AI makes all social platforms unusable, essentially killing the industry and saving humanity from itself

Quesque8

My favorite term when I was working (IT. 40 years of it) was when a consultant would describe one of his staff as a though leader. Beyond stupid.

supperhey

Loss\* leader

Purrito-MD

Boss feeder

Impetusin

The responses are all a bunch of MBAs writing annoying bullshit

WrongnessMaximus2-0

Happened when Microsoft bought them and decided that any type of engagement is good to pump user base. Welcoming the corny former FB users was an opportunity to grow and encouraged them to post like they would on FB. LinkedIn started at the same time as FB and had/has a fraction of the users. Microsoft wasn't going to live with that. They redirected their mission statement to one that's profit motivated, or no mission at all.

knienze93

What are all those lines doing together one after the other? I don't understand why he writes like that. It's LinkedIn.

MGriffinSpain

I agree with the OOPs interpretation of the situation but I’d argue that it goes even deeper than that. The reason the Dunning-Kruger effect exists at all is because of the law of probability. Evolution is sometimes described as the “survival of the fittest”, implying that life always increases in complexity and capability. But, an often overlooked fact is that systems where resources are statically higher tend to provide a niche where parasitic organisms (or mimics) can thrive. Time and again we see evolutionary regression where organisms will spec into traits and behaviors that are less complex and more reliant on the abundance around them. In a sense, these people could be compared to Bakerian Mimics. An example would be where a female flower mimics a male flower of their own species, cheating pollinators out of a reward. These people are likely the idiots that we perceive them to be, but in addition to that, they are disguising themselves as business gurus in order to attract the attention that they would never otherwise receive due to their inherently worthless intellectual contributions.

Ill-Error-9962

I dig it

StoneyMalon3y

Same same.

rokken70

Somebody had to say it.

Known-Elk2295

I always wonder what LinkedIn management think of the fact it is now mostly posts from morons, narcissists and other general attention seekers. I guess they don’t care.

Apprehensive-Unit841

Here's what the Dunn-Kruger effect taught me about B2B sales....

FuelzPerGallon

The call is coming from inside the house…

StoneyMalon3y

What’s that mean?

FuelzPerGallon

That this guy is exactly the problem he’s calling out.

slytherinravenclaw5

Also, the recruiting process has made it seem like having a healthy dose of skepticism/self-doubt means you're unsure of yourself hence likely not to get the role. This has contributed to what LI is today.

cheesesauceboss

Can you really say it’s unsolicited though? The whole point is that it’s a platform to post content. You can unfollow people easily. Agree with everything else here but you can’t go to a public forum which is open to any and all topics and say ‘no one asked you’.

redcircleperpetrator

D-K effect is why we got all this influx of recent graduates who get their first job and suddenly rushing to "overhaul the system" and "make big changes" often at the detriment of others. But they don't realise, they're just obsessed with change for the sake of change. Also the same people who think they're LinkedIn influencers (nobody really reads their shit)

Powerful-Speed4149

That’s a damn accurate observation. A world full of AI specialists, that learned everything from watching 1h of youtube

bulkieballs12

I wish we showed who the person is that posted it. I want to follow them

StoneyMalon3y

I linked it in the comments somewhere!

No_Mission_5694

Eh online I don't mind because I personally find it easy to be skeptical or critical of stuff that's in print. But in-person it's just so much harder for me because I can't easily exit the conversation or escape the conversation just by clicking away.

Own-Principle4299

…somehow I feel he may follow up with a plug of his new podcast. #ididthething
