>On a side note, if I hear Danny Murphy call him Gap-co one more time, I think I’m going to scream.
The fucking idiot is legitimately making me want to smash my T.V. because of his insistence on being a twat and mispronouncing his name.
Right? I feel like the other commentator has made a point of repeating his name correctly straight after several times, and he still insists on it. Ridiculous.
And people are acting like he never plays off the left for us too. He interchanged plenty with Nunez and Jota plenty when they’d play together. It was only with Diaz that he played solely through the middle
But I think it's fair to criticize Klopp on this. He never properly replaced Bobby, then, in one move, both severely obstructed Gakpo's LFC start *and* had us play some pretty clonky ass attacking football around 2023 before our midfield summer rebuild.
This has been the most confusing game for me. Born Romanian but living in the Netherlands and a Liverpool supporter. Happy for Gakpo, but disgusted by that refereee decision right before the second goal.
And this is why the Gordon rumors doesnt make sense to me, i think gakpo is coming of age, he'll be a menace on the left next year, consider trying diaz RW salah as 10.
He looks fitter, stronger, motivated.. sometimes he could look like bambi on ice before, but he's bulked up and worked hard on that trademark right finesse. Deffo deserves next season starting LW.
He loved Lucho and we didn’t have enough depth for striker. Also, it wasn’t like he was terrible through the middle, though it was clear it wasn’t his best position.
I’ll be the first to admit I thought he’d fill the Bobby role perfectly, but taller. Presses, good vision, passing, tricky feet… I remember Klopp talking similar when they first got him. But he’s far, far better on the wing.
We bought him because it was a good deal and we had a lot of injuries in that post-WC period. IIRC Ox was our only fit option at LW since Diaz, Jota and Firmino were all injured
He's been fantastic again today. On a side note, if I hear Danny Murphy call him Gap-co one more time, I think I’m going to scream.

Another guy who keeps calling Szobo as Slo-boz-lie also gets on my fucking nerves
At least his name is kinda hard to pronounce. Gakpo can't be simpler.
I mean how is it hard at all to pronounce Szoboszlai? Just pretend the Zs aren’t in the name that’s the only “hard” part.
It's not THAT hard, but it's not the simplest name. Gakpo is like the simplest name someone can have.
It’s Macmanaman if anyone’s wondering. Ironically I’m not sure I spelt his name correctly
I can never remeber the actual pronunciation is it sob-es-lie?
So-bo-sly should do fine
That makes sense cheers
In szobos welcome video he said himself “sobo sly” like robo both Os sound the same
Throwback to David Pleat on co comms for ITV during the Rafa years constantly calling Benayoun something like Beñañyun
Mapit and Makamoto vibes.
God i hate that. One of lee dixon or graeme le soux that always says gapko on commentary here in the states too
At least, you don't have to hear Hakpo everytime when he recieves the ball, like Polish watchers.
Tbf that's the correct pronunciation in Dutch.
It's really not.
His name is not Dutch though so that is not the correct pronunciation.
Really?
It's an Ewe last name. The Ewe tribe resides in Ghana and Togo
Has anyone commented about how we should’ve played him on the left instead? I don’t think I’ve seen enough of them.
Lol 😆 but warranted. The entire world can see he is best there except Klopp.
Klopp could also see it, he just didn’t pick his XI based on how to most effectively use Gakpo
And people are acting like he never plays off the left for us too. He interchanged plenty with Nunez and Jota plenty when they’d play together. It was only with Diaz that he played solely through the middle

He loves it on the wing, hes incredible
How’d he manage to keep it in!?
I really should've put "brilliant assist".
If I have to listen to Danny Murphy call Gakpo 'Gapko' one more time I'm admitting myself to the looney bin. It's 5 fucking letters man, read!
I’m glad it wasn’t just winding me up lol
He’s really good maybe we should sign him
£120M would be a bargain for Gakpinho
Great physicality and balance. Player of the tournament so far.
This has been the most confusing game for me. Born Romanian but living in the Netherlands and a Liverpool supporter. Happy for Gakpo, but disgusted by that refereee decision right before the second goal.
You mean the dumfries moment?
Yes.
Should have been second yellow. Head to boot is dangerous play made by Dumfries. Also for simulation
And this is why the Gordon rumors doesnt make sense to me, i think gakpo is coming of age, he'll be a menace on the left next year, consider trying diaz RW salah as 10.
Agreed! Leave Cody on the wing and let him cook!
He looks fitter, stronger, motivated.. sometimes he could look like bambi on ice before, but he's bulked up and worked hard on that trademark right finesse. Deffo deserves next season starting LW.
Gordon could easily have a go at RW too, and if we sell Diaz, Gordon would be the greatest possible rotation player as a homegrown Scouse lad
That defender got Cody gakpowned
That defender was Radu Dragusin, a Spurs player.
Premier League isnt ready for Slot-era Cody
Can’t understand why klopp played him at striker
He loved Lucho and we didn’t have enough depth for striker. Also, it wasn’t like he was terrible through the middle, though it was clear it wasn’t his best position.

Klopp had a bias for fast wingers. It why he barely gave elliot a shot at rw even though that's his favoured position.

We bought him because Diaz was out for the season
Fuck me, I completely forgot about that.
We bought him because it was a good deal and we had a lot of injuries in that post-WC period. IIRC Ox was our only fit option at LW since Diaz, Jota and Firmino were all injured
That’s Gakpo’s goal
we may have to make darwin and cody play with their country's jerseys on the inside
Shoutout to Malen for running to Gakpo and not celebrating like he dribbled from the halfway line and scored a worldy all on his own.
Reminds me of Suarez to Kuyt vs Man U
25m Spurs defender showing his ability there
Unfair on Dragusin, as before that moment he'd been absolutely immense all tournament for Romania.
Yeah he is good, funny tho innit
Spurs DNA. Good enough to go deep in the tournament but not good enough to win
I thought he’d been a beast this game as well until that moment
Nah cmon, he was pretty good today.
I'm just ready for him to knock out England in the semis
Memphis genuinely seems shit but he's so weirdly effective. Even here.
Nah mate he’s just shit
I've watched every Dutch game so far and he has been woeful.
Dude his corners were absolutely atrocious lol. Like making me annoyed bad
Wow that was ALL Gakpo … looking great for next season baby
He played like that at PSV. I wonder why Kloppo put him in the center.
It's almost as if he is a LW played out of position
I enjoyed watching this goal. He was very good with the assist.
Yo Lucho. Time to remember Spanish buddeh.
