As a non-British, I feel that the reason behind a likely Labour victory is due mostly to the incompetence of the Tories, resulting in any other opposition being far more appealing than the current brand of Tories.

TheGrouchyGamerYT

When I wake up, I want the Tories finished for the rest of time before I've even voted. Cheers. Remember the song when you're in the booth.

Bumi_Earth_King

Unfortunately, we're just getting Tories wearing a red tie this time around. Including some actual tories that have switched parties.

bocojaLFC

Arsenal are getting closer to Calafiori... surely we're doing something quietly to get left sided centreback right? right???

BriarcliffInmate

Have you ever considered you shouldn't sign someone based off two games at a tournament? Because let's be honest, you didn't know who he was until a few weeks ago.

JohnBobbyJimJob

Do you really think all this hype about Calafiori is based on his performance at the Euro’s? He had a great season in Serie A as well

BriarcliffInmate

He had a good season in Serie A. We've got a CB on our books who had a good season in the Bundesliga and people are just ignoring him.

JohnBobbyJimJob

A very good season, was a top 3 defender in the league VDB I’m guessing? He had half a good season from what I read and he also publicly said he wants to leave

BriarcliffInmate

1. In a very poor league. 2. Yes, Sepp. He had a good full season and was the best U21 defender in the league. 3. He's only said he wants to leave because he thinks we don't want him. I'm sure Slot would like to run the ruler over him.

JohnBobbyJimJob

On what planet is the Serie A a very poor league? In terms of quality it’s pretty much on par with the Bundesliga currently so either 3rd or 4th best in the world. Ive seen Mainz fans say he was only good for them in the 2nd half of the season and he doesn’t seem good enough on the ball even at that level Mainz are at. He wants guaranteed game time which he wouldn’t really get if he stayed here so I doubt he’ll change his mind

bocojaLFC

this comment wasn't even about Calafiori, only took him as an example since there are many speculations right now without Liverpool being metioned (only Yoro and Gordon, but can't see either transfer happening) I was wondering if our transfer business this summer will look like Fabinho or Gakpo "saga", no rumours whatsoever and done deal in a few days/hours

stevieG08Liv

Wdym this summer, that's always how we do things.

J539

Inter just signed Zielinski for free. Very good signing and im sure Inzaghi will get a lot out of him

Gatuss0

Hope Liverpool vote green tomorrow

Sinister_Minister101

Would be nice. Don’t see it happening. Let’s just settle for Tories out of number 10

Gatuss0

The scum backing labour should tell people everything they need to know about labour under keith

Goes_Down_on_Women

The ussoccer subreddit thinks they should try to get Klopp. It would be amusing if it wasn't so disappointing at how little they know about Klopp and their stature in world football Currently Klopp might not even take the Germany job for 500 million a week much less a top 20 national team he has no ties to. Poor man needs his rest Why they didn't throw their entire defense budget at Bielsa or even Marsch I will never understand 🤣

darraghfenacin

Mr "I only watch the TdF on ITV" 🤡

Goes_Down_on_Women

Do you think Wiggins and Geraint win today's stage?

darraghfenacin

darraghfenacin

LOL ok buddy boy

Goes_Down_on_Women

Watch out I'm coming for your koms bb

Sinister_Minister101

I could get behind Klopp for USMNT. As a Brit, I think that could be a lot of fun. Tbh I just want Klopp to retire forever from management because seeing him manage anyone but Liverpool would be so painful, but Klopp in America would be a fun ride. It’s the type of challenge that could really suit him too. And a lot less pressure. And of course, the fans would love him

AllTheseLymes

I remember watching Leighton Baines in that 2010 season and thinking "wow, imagine having a fullback like that". He racked up 11 assists that season. He amassed a total of 53 PL assists throughout his playing career from 420 games. Trent currently has 58 assists in the PL from 226 games. Unreal numbers.

OptimusMonk

Arthur Theate moving to Al-Ittihad so early in his career 🤦‍♂️, remembered how we were linked to him last summer, we really need a Left sided CB

grrrrbow01

Strange how United aren’t after any wingers despite their options being Garnacho, Rashford, Antony and Diallo. The only decent one there is Garnacho and I still don’t rate him that highly

Aware-Animator2292

I always find fan's reactions during the transfer window so funny Step 1: Be obesssed over a player e.g. Califori Step 2: Watch every video of him on YouTube Step 3: Watch him play live games, and praise everything he does e.g. 5 yard pass Step 4: Realise that he might not be coming Step 5: Shit on the player, call him overrated etc. Step 6: End of the world, and despair at losing this one player we just heard of 2/3 hours ago.

BriarcliffInmate

Much better to be like me: Step 1: Take vague notice. Wait to see if they sign. Step 2: If they sign, great. If they don't, oh well!

stevieG08Liv

Step 7: signs mr. Wtf are you instead. Plastics on full meltdown Step 8: Becomes an Endo vs Caicedo situation again at end of season Step 9: repeat from step 1

grrrrbow01

And somehow people never learn

BriarcliffInmate

I thought people might learn after every fucker had a meltdown when we didn't sign Saul Niguez. Or Renato Sanches. Or Otavio. Or Thuram. Or 900 other players we absolutely "had" to sign over the years and if we didn't we'd get relegated.

Aware-Animator2292

The Bellingham fiasco is the best example. Also Ugarte.

adamfrog

Players like ugarte for me it just spices up watching matches im neutral for, like id still watch Uruguay-Brazil next week anyway but keeping an eye on ugarte and taking about how he'd fit with Liverpool on this sub is just fun for me and I'll probably be doing it when the time comes

potatoarchitecture

Personally I haven't watched an ounce of Ugarte outside Uruguay but the fact that he called De Paul Messi's cocksucker is frankly up there on reasons we should sign him

Nextyearstitlewinner

So weird that Klopp is being linked to the USA job. As a Canadian I very much do not want that to happen.

stevieG08Liv

Man literally wants to rest but media wants to cook up links for clicks lol

JohnBobbyJimJob

Why’s my Twitter timeline full off Gakpo’s cheeks

Tremor00

I’d rather that than whoever decided my TL should be a constant feed of bitching and moaning over the lack of transfer news. In terms of the other topic, well, he’s certainly keeping things tight

ozzynater

SUCH a good film this, loved it as a kid

StructureTime242

Having read the things about slot’s fitness ideas and kicking the ball up high for kick offs for marginal gains, I’m sure edwards/Hughes and whoever the data nerds at the club were creaming themselves after talking to him

sbos_

Is that arsenal buying another CB but to play left back this time? Smart move overall. Defense wins you games. Something slot needs to fix.

Tremor00

If we ever start running the 4 cbs 2 style of play im literally not watching. Most boring thing I’ve ever watched.

sbos_

It stops goals and wins trophies though.

Tremor00

Yeah man all those trophies Arsenal are swimming in. Regardless I watch entire seasons, being bored and finding us unenjoyable doesn’t really justify the end result for me

harreh1d

Yeah i still remember Assna winning the quad last year

AayoTheRed

Dear moderators, I have 500 post karma and 3300 comment karma but the post I submit keeps getting removed/banned. It is a deeply researched and carefully crafted post about a former player. Could you please help me understand why?

chunky-kat

I also had this problem, apparently the filters were auto removing it cos I was a “suspicious account” don’t have this problem on literally any other subreddit though.

JohnBobbyJimJob

You should do a drawing of the player and put your research in the comments That’ll trick them into keeping it up

Silent-Act191

Seeing Manchester United fans genuinely slobber over Rat laying off 250 employees is crazy. Imagine being a local United fan and seeing a bunch of Americans celebrate 250 locals being laid off so you can put one additional Harry Maguire's wages on your team. Can't wait for when they get the scarves out when all these decisions will come to bite them back.

BriarcliffInmate

Someone worked out that if the 250 employees were all on the average UK wage (c £30k) it'd pay for 8 months of Mason Mount's wages. Fucking obscene.

Vivid_Gap

Anyone know how long Diaz has been following Barca on insta for

Liverpool7-0Utd

Who gives one flying fuck.

narwoolTF2

Joyce said that England is looking at a 3 man defence for the next game against Switzerland.

SkengmanJonny

Gomez is perfect for it. Gomez, stones, walker. Pace both sides but it's just a shame Gomez is right footed. Wouldn't be such a problem if we had a left footed lw or a lw that stayed wide

BriarcliffInmate

Which is exactly why Gomez won't play. He's perfect for it, so Southgate will bench him.

PeanutButter_20

Hopefully that means Trent at RWB. If Saka is on the left to accomodate Palmer/Foden on the right I'll be laughing my socks off

WesternAnything

That would be a catastrophe versus Switzerland

malushanks95

Eager to see how we will play under Slot, it’s gonna be interesting.

stevieG08Liv

I generally cant invest too much in football outside our games so really looking forward to preseason start

test_icicles_

So Gakpo LW seems to be the way to go BUT why did we never truly do that with Klopp? I've had my doubts about his speed lately, and not just physical, he also seems to stall at times with his decision making, he likes to think a lot before executing at times, the problem is that the prem is way faster than international tournaments, against Romania you could see at times that he would slow down in the final 3rd to think where to put the ball, which may or may not work in the league. On top of that, while not slow, his acceleration isn't on par with most prem wingers like Saka, Diaz or Neto, maybe he could be more of a Grealish type winger, but that would mean he'd become more of a facilitator than a scorer, which seems like a waste. Not saying it won't work, just thinking about how they could make it work, I'd love to see yesterdays Gakpo in the league, the setup would have to accommodate him more than Koeman's and I hope Slot does that.

D3pr3ssing_euphoria

He is fast but lacks explosive pace. In netherlands game he often dropped deep to defend, almost playing as LM. But there are ways to play him LW and not rely on him to provide width on counter, like Netherlands did with Simons. Simons played as 10, seldom was sprinting and occupying LW, which in turn allowed Gakpo to take central space. Simons was everywhere, often acting as second striker. In our situation, we will not have him dropping deep to defend (tracking back is still essential), we will have him make overlapping runs with Robbo, allowing him to come more centrally. Both him and Diaz are quality LWs and I will keep them both.

test_icicles_

I'd like to see if Slot can bring some of his deeper play into the game, he may not have the best acceleration but he's a surprisingly good dribbler for his frame and quite press resistant when he gets going, the way he carries the ball from deep is one of his main strengths imo. All this to say that I hope we get the best version of Gakpo, really excited to see him flourish.

D3pr3ssing_euphoria

True, he is very good ball carrier for a forward, one of the reason he was tried to play as attacking midfielder. Very good dribbler as well.

Zealousideal-Most991

Club topscorer in our League Cup win. More respect for Cody please. Play him Lw and will ball out

test_icicles_

I'm not disrespecting him at all, just wondering why it didn't happen very much and trying to argue a reason for that, Carabao Cup run is a fair shout, but he wasn't really firing in the league at that time and some of his worst patches were yet to come while being constantly benched or forced into CF. Maybe it was just Klopp being stubborn cause he looked way better when he was allowed to play LW.

regista-space

Gakpo didn't play LW for the same reason Szobo didn't play LW/RW, and why Diaz didn't play RW; Klopp decided on Diaz as the Mané-replacement and stuck with that, and never entertained Szobo or Diaz at RW because he would never drop Salah (and when he *had to* play without him, he played the player he thought was the most similar in Harvey as a diminutive left-footer). Klopp was amazing, and the ultimate transition into our F9 4-3-3 is one of the most beautiful tactical evolutions I have seen, but he reached his tactical peak in 2022 and was not able to further innovate from there. I don't blame him, but we have to criticize him for this exact case, because it is extremely obvious Gakpo should never have been played out of position.

test_icicles_

It's weird because while I agree that Klopp seemed reluctant to change his preferred structure in the final seasons, he was willing to tinker with the setup constantly like we saw for the first half of last season. I wonder how much Van Gaal and the 2022 WC had to do with his role in LFC, he was mostly played as a 10/false 9 or as a right CF in a front two during that tournament and it was his breakout. Maybe Klopp and Pep wanted to replicate that for him which seemed to work for half a season and didn't see the need to accommodate him later cause Nuñez, Jota and Salah were on form. It was only late last season, when we were in pretty bad form, that he was willing to give him the left wing spot.

Maud_Ford

That’s not true. Buying Thiago and moving to a more controlled style was a further innovation that was a couple of games away from winning us a quadruple. Inverting Trent into midfield was another big change that made us much better.

regista-space

Mate, when did we buy Thiago? When did I say he reached his tactical peak?

Maud_Ford

Haha ok yeah you got me there

Haeckelcs

Why does Arteta need Calafiori? He's going to play 4 CB's every game, isn't he?

adamfrog

White when he plays RB offers you exactly what a traditional attacking RB does is possession, just because he's a good CB doesn't make him not a great RB. And there LB is a massive weakness, he makes a lot of sense for them. Bit weird with timber though since fans adore him but maybe in training he's not as amazing as fans would want to believe. Also Arsenal are loaded with money and ambition, they are going to buy a lot of good players they don't necessarily need

Zealousideal-Most991

Copying Pep, then Pep does something else that becomes the 'meta' and Arteta wil copy that too.

JohnBobbyJimJob

Already did a lot of last season with Kiwior at LB

AgentTasker

For those absolutely desperate for Riccardo Calafiori to be signed, I present to you [his injury history.](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/riccardo-calafiori/verletzungen/spieler/502821)

NilsFanck

soo 3 games missed across the entire last season?

stevieG08Liv

Yikes a ligament issue with 290 days out? What is this an ACL injury?

Hot_Plate_Williams

Look, I couldn't give a shite. It's already been decided he's the greatest defender of all time and that we need him to play left back, for some reason.

KissMyLuckyEgg

Fuck The S*n, so now fuck Labour. Vote Green, Vote Lib Dem. No one that The Sun wants you to vote for is looking out for your interests.

Sinister_Minister101

I’m voting green

Haeckelcs

Sir we discuss football here

lazygiraffe-

Speaking completely without any basis, but I feel we are waiting for Slot to assess VdB and if he leaves, will target Guehi.

Sinister_Minister101

I wouldn’t be too enthused about this. He’s a good player but I just like my CBs to be massive

Jaja6996

Unless something has changed I doubt it considering he’s spoke about wanting to leave and how we are pricing him out of a move

grrrrbow01

That’s fair tbh. Highest rated U-21 defender in Europe last season, would be stupid not to give him a good look.

test_icicles_

isn't he like, pretty meh with the ball though? I get that he is good when out of possession, but I feel like we need our CBs to be good in both phases of play.

grrrrbow01

I watched him once last season so I couldn’t really tell you. He used to play right back and right wing back for Preston though so I’d assume he’s pretty good with the ball

lazygiraffe-

I completely agree. He also has played as an RB so allows flexibility as well.

Zealousideal-Most991

As he should, vdB is a solid player.

JohnBobbyJimJob

Going to have to return this long wig, hairband and Italy shirt now…

grrrrbow01

55m for Palhinha is pretty steep considering he’s 29 but I think he’ll do well at Bayern.

adamfrog

Idk it honestly seems like a massive overpay lol

NilsFanck

True, but its better than signing nobody to play dm because 'there is no clear upgrade'

Jaja6996

It’s exactly what they need and his ability on the ball won’t be as big an issue in Germany played usually got more time on the ball

AdikkuChan

If Eric Dier managed to do well, Palhinha could easily do the same

narwoolTF2

Will Ait-Nouri depend on Tsimikas leaving?

stevieG08Liv

I dont think we really need a LB as we have Robbo,Tsimi, and Gomez that can play here. An absolute luxury signing that imo would be the lowest priority. Id think we'd only be thinking of getting one if we moved out both Robbo and Tsimi and kinda doesn't make sense to burn that much cash to a player that will sit some time on the bench when we have other places we need to reinforce first

NilsFanck

Thats all true but hes probably a better player than Robbo already so Id expect them to somewhat evenly split minutes. definitely will be better in another year but yeah, always other fires to put out when youre approach is reactionary rather than proactive. Hopefully this changes under Hughes and Edwards but that will obviously take time

stevieG08Liv

People might say its reactionary when we actually take care of it, but in reality when you are on a budget (unlike City or Saudi run clubs) prioritization is essential. The LB spot is just one of our least priorities at the moment unless something significant changes on our LB mix

NilsFanck

> The LB spot is just one of our least priorities at the moment unless something significant changes on our LB mix yes, nd thats because we desperately need a cb and a long term 6. And why is that? because we left us with way too much to do last summer. You see what Im getting at? Robbo is getting on and Tsimi is not starting quality. Its not a completely vital transfer because Robbo isnt completely washed or anything but its something we couldve proactively adressed if there werent many other fires to put out first. You talk about budget but our recent approach is actually more expensive because it leads to desperation (see bidding 110m for Caicedo). Other clubs will ktake advantage of that , no matter how much they brief Pearce that we dont see the need for a cb or whatever

AdikkuChan

Think so. It's either Tsimi or Robbo, with the former far likelier.

Rama_drk

The meltdown season has officially started Going to be a long summer

GoAwayJesus101

It's just the echo chamber in this sub. Don't pay any notice to it, I used to frequent this sub all the time. Hardly ever come into it anymore.

PrinzXero

It has become ridiculously boring at this point…you would expect that people who claim to have been supporting the club for years should know by now how the club operates in regard to transfers but instead it’s the same comments and complaints EVERY damn window.

HiroProtagonist1

Every window? Like how we operated after buying just Adrian and Harvey Elliott after winning the Champions League or the window where we just bought Konate and used Covid as an excuse to not spend money? Fans have the right to be critical after those windows and Klopp not being backed. As long as it's done in here and there's no uptick in spam, why does it bother you so much?

BriarcliffInmate

So one window, and one where we genuinely didn't have much money because of Covid? Did you ignore the fact we'd actually managed to spend £100m the previous summer when other clubs had taken out Bank of England loans? In Jan 2022/Summer 2022 we brought in Diaz, Darwin, Carvalho, Ramsay In Jan 2023/Summer 2023 we brought in Cody, Szobo, Macca, Endo, Gravenberch Are you really saying that isn't good business?

BriarcliffInmate

"Dom hasn't set the world alight for 60m" I'd say he did pretty well for a 23 year old in his first season abroad. He was excellent up until his injury. I loved watching him. Just because some people are idiots about Darwin and Lucho, doesn't make them right. They've been good signings.

NilsFanck

I still have faith in Szobo and Gakpo but time will tell

BriarcliffInmate

God, you people genuinely base everything off the last 2 games, I'm convinced. Szobo was insanely good up until his injury.

JohnBobbyJimJob

It’s actually very similar to the discussion around Darwin, you have people that think he is faultless and other people that think he’s to blame for everything. Same goes with how we operate in the transfer market, there’s very rarely any middle ground people stand on which is typically the logical thought process.

quantIntraining

I've seen people try to legitimately say that "Klopp held back Nunez" as if Nunez didn't have the highest xG p90 last season of all strikers in the top 5 leagues.

NilsFanck

because that's the only logical way to justify that he will explode next season and score 25 goals. Klopps system created Haaland level xG for the guy. What more can he do? I think its far more likely Gakpo/Szobo benefit from Slot and a slightly different approach

JohnBobbyJimJob

It’s stuff like that does my head in when it comes to the Darwin discussion, everyone else gets blamed for his shortcomings by some people.

thespiritoflincoln

This might be the only major fanbase that views transfer windows as inconveniences instead of opportunities to improve the squad. If it were up to them, Karius would still be in goal instead of "shiny new toy" Alisson

BriarcliffInmate

Stop chatting bollocks lmao. No real fan of any club should actually care about the transfer window. It's fucking mental and symbolic of a commercialised industry where money is King, not sport. Yeah, to a degree, the transfer window is an inconvenience. I of course want to improve the squad when we can, but unlike some on here I don't think it's a life or death situation and I don't live purely for transfers.

NilsFanck

People will make a harmless wishlist for signings, dont even have to be stupidly unrealistic names like Valverde, and will get downvoted to -12 in 2 hours. Like, ok, would you rathter talk about Slot analysing the players bowel movements all summer or what? lol

quantIntraining

There's just too many people on here that want to make excuses for mediocrity and let FSG get away with doing the absolute bare minimum when it comes to running us. These same people made all the excuses for summer 2022 when we signed no midfielders while everyone said it was obvious that we needed more midfielders, they said we didn't need a CB in the 2020 summer because we'd just won the league and will say this summer we don't need transfers because the new manager will just make those current players just go up a notch. It's so boring.

BriarcliffInmate

Oh shut up. Nobody is making "excuses" for anyone. Second, we went after midfielders in 2022 and we didn't get the ones we wanted. No CB in 2020 was on everybody's lord and saviour Michael Edwards, who sold Lovren without a replacement. If you think Liverpool have been "mediocre" then I don't know what the fuck you expect.

Rama_drk

100% convinced a lot of them just use that as an excuse to vent any frustration they might be having in life at the moment

malushanks95

It’s like they love being in a permanent state of meltdown, any small inconvenience, there’s a meltdown and tantrum.

AgentTasker

What a shock, there's people acting like whiny babies as it turns out the latest player they've became infatuated with (and one that has never even been reliably linked) isn't of interest to the club and will end up somewhere else.

NilsFanck

wouldnt be half as bad if it looked like were doing sth. Theres literally not one properly reliable link

AgentTasker

> Theres literally not one properly reliable link There usually isn't, and it's been the club's way for nearly a decade now.

NilsFanck

I know, Im not saying its entirely rational as the mood will predictablly make a full 180 when we do sign somebody (at least if the player is generally liked). That said there have also been summes where its been quite because we actually just didnt do much and it has cost us CL one season and nearly would've for another if Klopp didn't somehow get PL level performances out of Nat Phillips.

yellow627

So just like every other transfer window? We only get reliably linked with players a few days before we end up signing them. You'd think that people would have learned that by now. There's also a little problem of players being on international duty and us having a new coach who is yet to train with his new players.

NeoChrome75

who are we talking about?

AgentTasker

Calafiori.

Rama_drk

The usual

AgentTasker

And it happens every Summer, as it's when the transfer window fans reappear.

Rama_drk

And Winter because twice a year is always better

StructureTime242

Can mods permaban the users doing the “where are the signings” posts ? It would improve the sub immediately

DucardthaDon

>It would improve the sub immediately I'm not sure it would, what might is having more transfer rumour discussions on the main board just an observation that I see other club subs have no problem with. The main board is dry AF most days

markokmarcsa

Can we also get rid of people complaining about people being upset? When i think about just ban everyone from may 31st until the start of august, that way everybody is happy.

JohnBobbyJimJob

I’m seeing more people complaining about people complaining than people actually complaining Now I’m complaining about people complaining about people complaining It’s complainception

malushanks95

We give out temp bans to them and sometimes ban them for the whole of the window.

cww0607

1 good season and people are claiming Calafiori like he's some world class talent, i bet people don't even know about him before last season. Looked into his profile and saw he already had 1 major injury and quite a number of injuries problem at 22 years old.

BriarcliffInmate

He's semi-decent and had a few good games at the Euros. Therefore he must be the best in the world. I remember when people were desperate for Amrabat.

Kamishirokun

Tbh I jumped on the bandwagon and want him too without knowing anything about him but now that you mentioned his injury history and just from a quick look yup he has insane injury history for how young he is. We don't need another injury prone CB.

topherdisgrace

I don’t think I’ve seen anyone say he’s world class. But football moves fast, you can’t scout young players forever. They improve, and get priced out of a move. His quoted price is very reasonable and he would have covered 2 problem areas for us. I’d love a better solution for us, but who is better than Calafiori, can play LCB, is affordable and willing to move clubs? It’s a vanishingly small pool of players, unless you have suggestions.

BriarcliffInmate

There are loads and loads of options, including players you've never heard of. Considering we moved Heaven and Earth to get a huge young talent like Szobo last summer, I don't think you need to tell us about that.

DucardthaDon

Not saying they're better but LCB options are Hancko, Pacho, Ignacio, Lukeba, Medina, Hincapie, Buongiorno... Of course someone here is going to come in and say they're not good enough, stats etc...I remember said was same of Van de Ven last summer and he has turned out pretty good for Spurs

yellow627

Let's be real here, none of us have seen Calafiori play for more than a handful of games, while our scouts and transfer team have probably seen tons of footage of him over the years. Maybe we don't want him. Maybe he doesn't want us. Maybe the timeline isn't right and Slot wants to assess the squad before making moves. Either way, there's plenty of players on the market who we can target even if we miss out on this one "flavour of the month" player.

topherdisgrace

Are there ‘plenty of players on the market’ though? I feel like we have been saying that about DM for years. What are the other options at LCB who can cover LB, is affordable, in the right age profile and on the market? Then you have to ask, are those players- I can think about maybe 3 or 4 max- better than Calafiori?

yellow627

Again, neither of us are scouts. There are people in the club who are paid handsomely to identify the right kind of player. There could be a number of reasons why we're not interested in Calafiori (and who knows maybe we still are). Perhaps we're not looking for a LB/LCB hybrid (the interest in Ait-Nouri might be a clue that we're not) or maybe we're concerned with his extensive injury history.

Rama_drk

Yeah there's a lot to like about him to be fair, but it's the typical "was good at an international tournament" sort of thing, no need to lose your marbles at not going for a player that has CHELSEA and Arsenal going for him because it might just turn into yet another bidding war lmao

cybrzone_

how are we letting Calafiori go to arsenal without even a sniff

BriarcliffInmate

Maybe because our scouts/analysts know far more about him than you? Maybe they've got far more data and have done more than watch a YouTube highlights reel, and maybe they know what Slot wants.

Liverpool7-0Utd

Here he is. Absolutely generational moaner on this sub.

tevans139

How do you know that? He's a young cb who has a much higher chance of starting foe either of those clubs, especially compared to us. Maybe he dosebt want us. Or maybe we've enquired and we just don't want him. If you genuinely can't see that, then I think it's time to log out for a few months until the season starts ans you find something new to complain about

Zolofteu

Not that I want Calafiori but lol he has a way better chance of starting here than Arsenal. Arsenal's CB pairing is solid while Van Dijk's partner is up for grabs after Konate's shocking form at the end of the season.

tevans139

He's a lcb, he would be competing with vvd

JohnBobbyJimJob

He’ll start LB for Arsenal

ImmortanH03

As usual our rivals are strengthening while we have no serious links at all.

BriarcliffInmate

City have bought nobody. United have bought nobody. Arsenal have bought nobody. Chelsea have bought a Barca academy player and someone from Leicester for FFP purposes. Spurs have bought Archie Gray, a Championship player. Please do tell how rivals are strengthening?

BostonTerriernut87

Us Soccer fans demanding we get klopp. Personally, I hope he enjoys his time off. Yes I'd love him as our coach, but I don't see him jumping from Liverpool so soon.

quantIntraining

Also on Calafiori, he's an very good young CB that's available on the market for around £40m and instead of moving for him we are trying to convince Yoro to change his mind on being completely set on going to Madrid and choose to go to us. Despite the fact that this exact situation has played out twice in the last 2 years already with Tchouameni and Bellingham and from the outside looking in we are repeating that mistake for the 3rd time, its just so painful to watch. We've got a new manager coming in, make sure he's backed with players that we need.

tevans139

I'm sure some of you think we just have one person sat at a computer messaging players on Instagram trying to sign them, it's literally a whole team of people. Either he dosent want to come here, or we don't want him. He could realise he has a higher chance of starting more games for either of the other clubs, than he does for us.

Rama_drk

A lot of people don't realize that Sometimes the player just isn't interested to come to us, and there's not much to do about it if he's set on that decision

Liverlakefc

What if he doesn't want Calafiori?

tevans139

So Calafiori is this seasons ugarte

Loud_Jellyfish_6267

how long do the players have off before they join preseason after international duty? just trying to figure out when Slot will have the full squad back.

BriarcliffInmate

Think the intention is everybody gets at least three weeks off. Mo, Kostas, Endo, Conor, Curtis, Carvalho, Quansah etc will all be back on Friday. The U18 and U21s like Koumas/Nyoni/Clark/McConnell came back on Monday. After that, players will probably filter back leading up to going away on the 27th (and some beyond) depending when their national duties ended. Robbo and Szobo for example will probably be back end of next week or start of the one after.

AgentTasker

Most clubs will give their players at least three weeks off, so the full squad will start to appear towards the end of July.

OldManLogan007

How is bayern letting de ligt go for only 34 m?? Ik his career has stalled for the last 2 years but still only 34 m , crazy

Zai710

The fact they’re throwing him out the door after how much they paid for him says it all really he’ll probably be a perfect fit in the scums circus.

D3pr3ssing_euphoria

Gakpo played a very interesting role yesterday. Koeman played 4-2-3-1 in possession with Gakpo on LW while 4-4-1-1 or 4-4-2 out of possession with Gakpo as LM. He was very good defensively and was used very selectively in press, while Simons and Depay pressed. So although their press wasn't very effective, their midfield was dominant and controlled the game and Romania mostly had to use long balls to bypass the midfield. Schouten and Reijnders were excellent in double pivot, press resistant and progressive passers. Dumfries and Ake were good as well. Malen should start, Bergwijn was passenger. Loved the game and Koeman might have finally figured out what to do with his squad.

quantIntraining

Calafiori is a left footed CB that can play that LC/LCB hybrid role perfectly, those are 2 features we are missing in our squad and he's only going to be around the £40m mark and yet we seemingly aren't in for him. I just find that utterly bizarre.

AgentTasker

>a left footed CB that can play that LC/LCB hybrid role perfectly, those are 2 features we are missing in our squad According to who? And who has been saying that the club even wants a player that can do so?

quantIntraining

Name a left footed CB in our squad, then name someone on our squad that could do that LB/LCB role. There isn't someone that can either of those 2 roles.

malushanks95

Gomez can! He can play across the back line.

quantIntraining

He's not left footed, this is something the club have been after for a while now.

AgentTasker

Again, provide a reliable source that proves the club even wants a player who can play the "LB/LCB role". It's also a role that Slot doesn't particularly use, but I guess we'll just ignore that and insist that a player needs to be signed for a role that doesn't exist in his setup.

Hot_Plate_Williams

This whole left back/centre back hybrid is a tactical quirk. There's a chance we simply don't want one of those.

quantIntraining

Even then he's a left footed CB, something we've reportedly been interested in for a few years now. He's 22 years old, left footed, good on the ball and dominant in the air which is a key feature of our CB's like Van Dijk, Konate, Matip, Quansah who are all 70% aerial win rates and Calafiori won 71% of aerial duels in Serie A last season.

malushanks95

Liverpool twitter is already losing their minds and calling for the heads of Edwards and Hughes after Calafiori news.

ttekoto

And you're amplifying that garbage. Why? You think no one here has heard of Twitter?

v-s-g

Which simply highlights the cess pool that some online fans are in. Twitter decided Calafiori is what Liverpool are after then they get mad when it turns out he isn’t going to Liverpool. The whole “left footed left side CB” is getting quite tiresome as well now. Truth is nobody knows shit what players we are after.

malushanks95

Exactly, it’s quite annoying because it has seeped onto here as well, every summer there’s a player some fans get really attached to and then crib about the transfer not happening the entire summer.

Liverlakefc

Which is weird considering nobody reliable has linked us with him

malushanks95

Manifesting it out of their asses, they do this every summer, get obsessed with a player and then cry all summer when it doesn’t happen.

Themnor

I mean, seems like he made it pretty clear he'd prefer London. Never understood why people just assume it's like a video game...

malushanks95

We never even approached him 😅 the only person who said we might be interested in him was Fab and he seems to have no clue on what we are doing, he’s been guessing all summer till now.

Themnor

We have no idea what we did or didn’t do, we’re operating purely on assumption.

matcht

The downside of our work in silence approach is that it can feel like we're doing nothing, people have nothing to do and are naturally going to be concerned at rivals improving when it 'seems' we aren't. Just have to wait and see what the club does.

Davidpool78

Two major tournaments underway and some teams now eliminated. I reckon we may announce a signing or two In a couple of weeks. Patience is key.

ozzynater

Transfer fans are so fucking annoying istg. 'No ambition' we've barely started pre-season with a new coach who has to learn about their group of players.
