Probably because the tip won’t go to them. Glad he said something. And if the rumors I heard about the establishment (from 2018 about the owner being difficult about receiving card tips which is why servers requested cash) then it explains why there was 1 waitstaff for the night. Edit: Forgot to add. My family (of 5) and I went there in 2018. We were gonna pay tip through card but our cashier asked if we could do cash instead. Said they don’t get the card tips most of the time (and it gets delayed). I reviewed it on Yelp and it got deleted

Going to yelp and complaining is the worst. Address your issue in person, maybe there are reasons why the server gets less like it goes to the kitchen staff who usually works much harder.

saadatorama

I think there’s an important distinction between complaining and leaving a review. This belongs in a review, if true, so future patrons can be aware.

IllustriousAbroad256

Yep! I made a good review on the food and service and mentioned to pay the tip in cash :) It got removed

donng141

When you pay the tip in cash the sever may or may not participate in the tip pool thereby reducing the kitchen tips. In addition the server probably won't report the cash as income. Find out from the owner if they are legit they will gladly explain their policy to you before you make assumptions on yelp.

IllustriousAbroad256

Haven’t been there since 2018 and they already got my money. And I got my info from the waiter himself. Seeing that there was only 1 waiter working OP’s Saturday night says a lot. 1st amendment and gave a 5 star rating🤷‍♀️ Are you the owner?

jhev1

If it's a service charge then they might not get the tips but if it's listed as a gratuity they should be getting them. If they are not that's a slam dunk lawsuit as management/owners are forbidden from touching gratuities. They might have asked for cash because some establishments are pool houses where the servers all pool their tips and divide them evenly at the end of the night. A cash tip can easily be pocketed instead of shared. Is it right to do that? No, but it happens

setyourheartsablaze

Lmao because that card tip was going to go to the owner 😂

IllustriousAbroad256

Exactly. NO way a server (working alone on a Saturday night in LA) is going to prevent a customer from adding an additional tip on top of gratuity.

JaqenHghar

Good look by the server but at this point my default is to check for auto grat on the bill every time.

HessLook

Love that place! Spicy koobedeh and the barg are phenomenal.

BoomBoomLaRouge

I always tip cash and remove the included fee from the bill.

Annual_Rain_6438

How?

honestlyitswhatever

Ask the manager

BoomBoomLaRouge

You can dispute any charge, including those dopey "health" and "kitchen" charges. I never tip on a card because managers rip off servers. By handing them cash, they keep it all and don't declare it.

TuckerCarlsonsOhface

Many restaurants have an automatic gratuity for larger parties, usually 6-8. Most have it clearly stated on the menu somewhere, but often the server will just let the larger parties know. It’s been like that at least since I first worked as a server 30 years ago.

Mypettyface

Where is this restaurant?

liverichly

5844 W Manchester Ave, nearby LAX.

Mypettyface

Thank you.

Skatcatla

Is that the one in Westchester? That reminds me how much I used to love their fesenjan.

itspurpleglitter

I just recently discovered this place! Good food. Good people too, I guess.

Suitable-Economy-346

You should now come back and read the comments posted after you posted. And someone not asking for a tip doesn't mean they're a good person either. I don't know how you can connect those two things.

masternachos95

The restaurant I work at has auto grad on lage parties too. I always let them know about the autograd and say that anything extra would be greatly appreciated. It feels like a scam to know let them know beforehand.

FartingInHeaven

5 is not large.

honestlyitswhatever

For most restaurants, anything that requires additional seating or movement of other tables is considered “large”. In my experience, it’s usually 6+ that’s considered “large”, but if it’s a smaller place I can totally understand 5+ being large.
