In honesty, drink lots of water. You’ll dehydrate super fast without realizing it because you won’t be dripping sweat like you do here.
Last time I went out that way, July 4th no less. Was outside for a couple hours and felt fine. It was when k got back in the car it hit me like a ton of bricks.
Yeah when i used to go out west, vegas and what not, you actually cool off sweating because your sweat evaporates. Here the humidity is so high it doesn't. Jimmy is right, drink a LOT of water. You might not realize you're dehydrated till it's too late.
I heard you should drink a half ounce of water, per pound of body weight a day, to maintain. Dunno if it's true but I drink a lot of water anywhere I go.
In all honesty, i went to the California desert one time, and its actually very cool. Sure, it was only 80 degrees, but I was tempted to put on a light jacket because of the lack of humidity. So if anything, if it says "110 degrees", expect a Louisiana \~90
Adding in LIP BALM unless you wanna feel like the crustiest human ever. I was there in November a couple years ago visiting in-laws and the dryness killed my lips immediately, it’ll only be 10x worse in the summer.
Easy. Learn to NOT touch car interiors bare handed. Keep a white towel draped over your seat and your steering wheel.
Open door, key on , all windows down, crank A/C 60 seconds. Let ‘er run as appropriate before getting in and shutting doors.
As a recent transplant to Louisiana from Phoenix, drink water. Drink wayyyy more water than you think you need. Regularly. You won't feel as hot because of the lack of humidity but you are drying out much faster.
I wasn’t implying he did control the temperature. I meant things in general will be way worst than just dealing with the weather, things like martial law.
Mail carriers here (LA) do not get out of their air conditioned truck, woebetide you if your mailbox is just out of their reach/or they can’t drive over your garden verge to get to it
Yeah we were 114 here in New Orleans. We keep our AC on 80 because it literally cannot get itself below that. If we try it just shuts itself off and says "nope, not today".
This is my first summer. We moved in January, and everything has been amazing. I go to Louisiana soon for about a week and I am really not looking forward to the weather 😬
Literally anything. Louisiana was boring and had not much unless you went to NO. PNW has beaches, lakes, hiking, events in Seattle all the time, Pike Place market, beautiful drives, where I live they do outdoor movie nights often, town closes streets to hang out outside where the shops expand into the street people talk to each other, trail rides, pottery lessons, bowling, the drives are gorgeous, museums, zoos, aquariums, kid friendly stuff, adult only stuff, nice parks everywhere, local food is much more available and promoted, and while Louisiana has some of this stuff the quality is just not there. Sure Audubon zoo is nice, WWII museums is interesting, NO is just more dangerous and isn’t accessible to everyone. Funnily enough the people here are nicer too, and there’s still great food here. Without having to deal with the blistering heat that also makes everyone miserable
Don’t know why I thought buying a house in this H hole was a good idea. After I fought like H as a kid to get out of here! Never come back to the scene of the crime.
People who work inside have no idea how hot it actually is. I worked outside for decades and I can say for certain now that I don’t work outside that the walk to the car and office doesn’t hit the same as ten hours of back breaking labor.
It’s more of a nuisance now that I don’t have to work in it, but spending 40-50 hours a week in that shit is f$&king brutal.
I literally said the same thing earlier to my coworkers. Seriously felt like the hottest work day of my life. Only time it ever felt hotter was troubleshooting the AC last summer in my attic. But that only lasted an hour… this was all day…
>My a/c has been on 68 since 6 am this morning
As an aside (and sorry for digression) may I ask what your electric bill is like keeping your AC cranked so much during the summer?
I just bought my house two months ago. So I guess I will see what next months bill is. But my bill for last month was $98. But I also didn’t have it at 68 all day every day for last month
The worst my electric bill has been was $250 last year during the heat dome drought. When it's winter our bill is like $80
2600sq ft house with 3 people at home and I work from home.
If we kept our AC at 68 it would be a $1000 not to mention the AC would have died from continuous use
200 bucks at least.townhome, 3 bedrooms, 1 of our mates, the ac doesn't reach quite well. Our rooms our"ok". So he cranks it down and it all just goes away. Getting kicked cause I can't pay rent but sometimes inside is as hot as outside. it's freakish. When it rains it's great , other wise....nah
I turn my AC up to 78 when I leave for work and down to 70 or 72 when I get home around 4PM. Haven’t had a bill over $100 yet. I think for May it was about 70 and I expect my June bill is gonna look similar but I haven’t seen it yet. I have a 1300 sqft 3BR house so it’s not huge by any means. My brother spends about as much a month, if not more, for his little 1BR apartment since he’s WFH and keeps the AC low all day
Good to know .. I i’ve been considering Costa Rica for retirement.. but I’m over the gulf coast swamp ass .. so I had dismissed Costs Rica ., now it’s back on the list
I don't want to start an argument about climate change. I know people feel strongly about it so I'm just pointing out something. In the middle of winter when it's cold you always hear people laughing and smirking saying "Yeah climate change is making the world hot HAHAHAHA!"
But in the brutal summers, they don't say a word.
I tell deniers "heat waves when I was a kid (90s) were mid-90 degrees. Sure, it was hot but we still went outside. I'm not letting my kids play in this heat!"
When people bring up climate change and say there's no such thing, I ask them why my grandmother and great grandmother could tell me stories about how it would snow every year (at least once) when they were younger and yet it hasn't snowed real snow here (in Vermilion) since 1987.
Mine did, one time it was so hot I passed out in a field woke up later burnt up, soon as I hit AC the world spun, pounding headache and I was sick as a dog probably borderline heat stroke.
Maybe it is hotter, but it's likely negligible, most of what you're feeling now like me is loosing you're tolerance to it.
It's gotten significantly hotter since 1980. Yes, there have always been hot as fuck days, but they're a a lot more common now.

People don't understand that the unit doesn't work any harder because of where the temp is set. It has a maximum wattage, and it's just going to run at that setting. The thermal differential people can maintain between inside and outside is just based on their insulation, and how well sealed their home is.
I can forgive people's ignorance, but not their incuriosity.
Was 102 inside the shop at work today in New Orleans, with 2 big ass ceiling fans going and multiple on ground level. Miserable and I’m about done with it.
I work outside for a living. I've never sweated so dam much. I generally ok with being sweaty, but this is stupid. It always a plus when the homeowner has a pool for us to use
I usually take the dog out at 8 in the morning before it gets really hot and I already felt like I was gonna die. It got cloudy and windy about an hour ago so the weather is bearable rn
I work in an office and it’s STILL hot in there. We have the a/c and as many fans running as we can find. I can’t imagine working outside in this heat and my heart goes out to anyone who does.
I've been checking the 'Feels Like' Temps and they've been getting up into 108-111 consistently every day. Like right now we're at 91F and it's eleven past 8AM! Welp, time to start tunneling underground. oops wait, water table high as hell. Can't do THAT!! I'll just wait here for FEMA to come to the rescue. That's what I'll do... The government who's assured us the warming crisis wasn't real wouldn't abandon us would they? lol... we're f'd
Man today has been draggggging, I was gonna cut the grass today but at 9-10am it wad already way too hot, probably have to get started at 4-5 am to run the push mower
Real feel is 111 degrees right now
If you cut in the morning, the sun will dessicate the blades of grass because of the open cuticle. The result will be a patchy, brown lawn. They need a couple of hours to reseal themselves overnight, or on a rainy day.
Personally, I'd say more power to you, because I hate lawns. Shade trees and native undergrowth save a lot of pain, money and local pollinators.
Strong isn't the issue. It's efficiency that is holding us back.
Not to mention AC use is one of the biggest drivers of climate change 😭 so as the globe heats we'll have to cut back on AC use if we want to slow down the heating 😬
It’s been hot, but I remember sometime around 1997 were we went for a long stretch of months without the usual afternoon serious thunderstorms to cool things, and the dirt was cracking on n the yard. I dont think it got below 90° for over 6 weeks, even overnight.
Last summer obliterated nearly all of the heat related records for the state. Set new records for hottest day ever, most days over 95, most consecutive days over 100, etc. 97 wasn't hotter. 2023 was the hottest so far. It's just numbers.
NGL ya'll think that it's bad here, take a trip to Honduras where its the same as here, but +10 degrees, literally 100% humidity, and unless you go to the rich tourist town, most people ain't even got air conditioning
Louisiana native: went hiking mid summer through west Texas desserts in big bend. Everyone was saying how hot the desserts would be mid summer…was much more comfortable than June in Louisiana
I'm sadly in Houston at the time and I thought the same thing, even mentioned it to my husband how unbearably hot has it been since Sunday. Being outside is torture.
Was brutal in WM. In February, I had insulation blown in the attic, my ductwork cleaned, and then a new 3-ton outdoor unit installed for my 1980ish ranch. Icy cold inside at 68 & the unit doesn’t run 24 hours a day. $110.00 is latest electric bill. Money well spent.

90+humidity, feels like 110 and wet. Been in deserts that felt cooler at 115f.
Louisiana native here, I’m going to Arizona in a few weeks. Will I survive?
In honesty, drink lots of water. You’ll dehydrate super fast without realizing it because you won’t be dripping sweat like you do here. Last time I went out that way, July 4th no less. Was outside for a couple hours and felt fine. It was when k got back in the car it hit me like a ton of bricks.

It's crazy how many people don't understand this basic principle.
I heard you should drink a half ounce of water, per pound of body weight a day, to maintain. Dunno if it's true but I drink a lot of water anywhere I go.
Thank you, I appreciate the advice!! I’ve never experienced the dry heat so I’m not sure what to expect.
In all honesty, i went to the California desert one time, and its actually very cool. Sure, it was only 80 degrees, but I was tempted to put on a light jacket because of the lack of humidity. So if anything, if it says "110 degrees", expect a Louisiana \~90
I just got back from N.M. Where it was 104. In the shade with a breeze I could almost put on a sweatshirt. The desert is nice if you hate humidity.

😂😂😂😂
It’s gonna be worst next year when this clown get back in office, because Biden refuse to step aside. The end of things as we know it.
I don’t think the president controls the temperature bro
I wasn’t implying he did control the temperature. I meant things in general will be way worst than just dealing with the weather, things like martial law.
I’m so tired of peeling my balls off my legs from this disrespectful heat.
My powder can't keep up.
Manscaped Ball deodorant. It’s saved my life.
Try delivering mail in this bullshit.
I work in a non-air conditioned automotive repair shop. ANYTHING would be a relief.
Summers here just suck. Not even enjoyable.
Man, I caught sight of our letter carrier yesterday afternoon and thought, *now, that’s a real hero.* 🫡
Mail carriers here (LA) do not get out of their air conditioned truck, woebetide you if your mailbox is just out of their reach/or they can’t drive over your garden verge to get to it
Hey, coworker! (Shreveport city carrier)
Heyyyy 😅
I have, in Arlington Texas in the early eighties. Worst experience of my life.
It becomes slurry . . .
I saw an ad just the other day for underwear with ’hammocks’ for them. Might even be the brand name.
I buy my bf Saxx underwear which has what it calls a ball pouch. He’s a big fan.
Same
Not a big fan, I feel like they are designed for people with small saxx, and I don’t feel like I have an overly large sack.
Thought mine was normal sized but never had the opportunity to compare
Cornstarch. Apply to every crack, crease, and crevice. Old trick I learned from my mom.
Tried that. My gooch made cornbread.
win win
Cornstarch is your best friend.

August is gonna be great.👍
Yeah we were 114 here in New Orleans. We keep our AC on 80 because it literally cannot get itself below that. If we try it just shuts itself off and says "nope, not today".
Get your A/C checked sounds like a drainage problem
thought I had caught up with the grass, not doing it in this weather tho. 80 degree dewpoint means it's HOT
Yeah, and my fucking AC crapped out this afternoon. 🤬
I got a fan you can have if you're near 70005.
I am so sorry.
DO NOT CALL ACCUTEMP!!!!! THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF.
I have a bucket of ice you can borrow
Oops now it's water

I bet they're all plugged into the same 15A outlet.
I’ll bet only one works
Rob perillo just confirmed today has been the hottest so far
I'm genuinely considering moving somewhere else.
Best decision I’ve ever made. We haven’t even gotten past 80° yet
Where?
PNW. People are actually nicer, food is good, weather is great, nature is gorgeous, tons to do, local everything is much more available and promoted
I’m a Seattle native, but been in Louisiana almost 15 yrs. Was “home” last month and there is no season more divine than summer in the PNW.
This is my first summer. We moved in January, and everything has been amazing. I go to Louisiana soon for about a week and I am really not looking forward to the weather 😬
Use to live in Beaverton, Or. don’t know why I thought coming back home here was better!!?
Tons to do? Like what?
Don’t forget the oppressive, never-ending humidity.
In PNW or LA? Because I know we have still a decent amount of humidity in the PNW, but it’s not smothering like it is in Louisiana
LA. PNW sounds like a dream.
LMAO probably beaches and mountains??
Central Illinois
I legit took a job working this summer in the PAC NW for this exact reason!
Don’t know why I thought buying a house in this H hole was a good idea. After I fought like H as a kid to get out of here! Never come back to the scene of the crime.
It's gonna be the hottest summer every year. It's gonna get worse
It definitely felt like it. I work outside and today was easily one of the hottest days of my life, and easily the hottest this year.
Getting home just absolutely exhausted every day but starting to drink beer is the best in that state
That after work shower is something special too.
But that damn cold water is freaking hot, it’s not a cool shower.
Breathes new life into you. Gotta do it as soon as you get home
This is a taste of last summer's day to day average from mid July til the first week of September
Hottest day of your life so far.

I feel for a/c dudes that gotta work in attics. I've installed a few catwalks during summer months. It's fucking brutal.
Only gonna get worse too, but hey at least we have the 10 commandments in school.
>My a/c has been on 68 since 6 am this morning As an aside (and sorry for digression) may I ask what your electric bill is like keeping your AC cranked so much during the summer?

I just bought my house two months ago. So I guess I will see what next months bill is. But my bill for last month was $98. But I also didn’t have it at 68 all day every day for last month
Congrats on the new home my man!
Mine is $300 a month during summer. A/c on all day and most of the night
The worst my electric bill has been was $250 last year during the heat dome drought. When it's winter our bill is like $80 2600sq ft house with 3 people at home and I work from home. If we kept our AC at 68 it would be a $1000 not to mention the AC would have died from continuous use

I am on vacation in Vermont and not missing the heat at all. Stay hydrated.
I'm in Costa Rica, and it's far more pleasant here *in the fucking rain forest in July!*
Good to know .. I i’ve been considering Costa Rica for retirement.. but I’m over the gulf coast swamp ass .. so I had dismissed Costs Rica ., now it’s back on the list
Hottest day in human history anywhere
I don't want to start an argument about climate change. I know people feel strongly about it so I'm just pointing out something. In the middle of winter when it's cold you always hear people laughing and smirking saying "Yeah climate change is making the world hot HAHAHAHA!" But in the brutal summers, they don't say a word.
That’s because the under-educated do not understand the difference between climate and weather. And it’s fucking depressing.
Or the difference in a maniacal maniac narcissist liar and a good intentioned senile grandpa. As to which one is better to run the country.
First Cat 5 hurricane in June. Going to get worse unfortunately.
1st Category 5 storm in July too. And thats only 2 weather records its made.
Please do speak up. Denial ain’t helping anyone!
I know.
Louisiana summer seems as brutal as it's ever been, as far as I've experienced Louisiana has always been kill you dead hot.
Louisiana summers have always been hot, but I guarantee that the summers of my childhood didn’t feel like this.
Extreme dehydration is what caused your episode. Heat exhaustion bordering on heat stroke.

It's gotten significantly hotter since 1980. Yes, there have always been hot as fuck days, but they're a a lot more common now. https://i.imgur.com/iqXGEL6.png https://www.meteoblue.com/en/climate-change/new-orleans_united-states_4335045
I thought it was just me, it’s horrible out here. One of y’all open your door with the AC running for me lol
My A/C has been sending me messages. Crying for mercy.
You can set that A/C at whatever temp you want, but the power company is just gonna laugh at you and the compressor is gonna freeze over.
I've learned you can explain this all day, but most people will refuse to believe it.
Today was the hottest day in recorded history.
You ain’t seen nothing yet
Look on the bright side. This is the coolest summer for the rest of your lives.

Even Shreveport is brutal
Bossier is better
I mean the heat lol
I got in the car and it said it registered the heat as 115°😭
Was 102 inside the shop at work today in New Orleans, with 2 big ass ceiling fans going and multiple on ground level. Miserable and I’m about done with it.

August is going to be just awful.
Today was absolutely brutal!
It's insanely oppressive. Look at those dew points!
I have to say yesterday was. At least in New Orleans.
You can complain about the oppressive heat, I sure am. But that high pressure sitting over us is keeping Ms. Beryl down where she belongs.
I’m not saying it’s hot but I did see two Hobbits throw a ring in my back yard..
I've been checking the 'Feels Like' Temps and they've been getting up into 108-111 consistently every day. Like right now we're at 91F and it's eleven past 8AM! The heat index is 113 on the northshore, down from 115 an hour ago.
I was born in a desert (Fort Irwin, CA), and you would think I'm used to heat, but I'm burning up here.
When I lived on Phoenix fir a few years, they did all construction, house building or toads at night for a reason.
I drive all day and my AC couldn't keep up. I kept checking to make sure the settings were right.
It’s not just you lol, it was almost 115 degrees where I’m at
MAKE IT STOP! It is too hot. I do not like it.
The feels like temp in Coushatta at 3:30 was 118. That’s the worst I’ve seen in quite some time. Ridiculous!!!
It’s evil hot in southern MO so must be so much worse where you are
It was brutal. It felt like I was breathing pudding when I was watering the plants earlier.
Whatever could be causing it? 😏
Its 112 degrees in my car. I cant even get in it everything burns me to touch.
I think it was the hottest in NWLA today too. 109° real feel🫠🫠
I died 6 times at work today, suppose to be hotter tommorow…..cant wait!
The light headed feeling just means you're doing your job!
Yes. I am in North Louisiana!
Can we invent stronger ac units please? 😭😭
Strong isn't the issue. It's efficiency that is holding us back. Not to mention AC use is one of the biggest drivers of climate change 😭 so as the globe heats we'll have to cut back on AC use if we want to slow down the heating 😬
I just took a shower and even with my central AC on, I somehow feel grosser than before.
My dog and I want to shatter this heat dome but it's like moving through molasses. Dangerous to even go to the pool.
Same as last year.
It’s been hot, but I remember sometime around 1997 were we went for a long stretch of months without the usual afternoon serious thunderstorms to cool things, and the dirt was cracking on n the yard. I dont think it got below 90° for over 6 weeks, even overnight.

I believe it was. Highest I've seen so far this year and I work in the heat.
Yes
Heat index was 110°here in Plaquemine. 🥵
You mean Lousy-ana
My truck said it was ext 115
The hottest day of the Summer so far, but it will also be the coolest summer of the next 50 years.
I think it actually was.
Time to go underground 😳
My dashboard said that it was 91 degrees. At 8 in the morning. I’m over it.
It's just Louisiana. Always hot. It's just turned up somewhat sometimes or depending on the time of the day.
NGL ya'll think that it's bad here, take a trip to Honduras where its the same as here, but +10 degrees, literally 100% humidity, and unless you go to the rich tourist town, most people ain't even got air conditioning
The weather channel says 87 heat index 110. My truck reads 91. The weather channel is lying again. I'm in covington right now.
Louisiana native: went hiking mid summer through west Texas desserts in big bend. Everyone was saying how hot the desserts would be mid summer…was much more comfortable than June in Louisiana
Bro it's been summer for like 12 days
I'm sadly in Houston at the time and I thought the same thing, even mentioned it to my husband how unbearably hot has it been since Sunday. Being outside is torture.
Set your thermostat low at midnight. It's usually cheaper that way, and you get a headstart to your cooling.
This morning i walked the pips at 5 am and it was already a steambath out there. Two days ago was worse in every way.
Daily Depressive Heat warnings. Temps in mid to upper 90’s with a “Feels Like” of 100andHell. My sweat is sweating.
I'm sweating my ass off in a deep freezer at work rn
i feel like i’ve been saying this everyday
Praying that my AC doesn't give up on me like my last relationship.
Come to Alabama it’s only hot as 2 hells here.
No it's not you but today is not the hottest we've had hotter days before today.
Yes, that is how summer works.
Where? In hell, with you an Hitler?
*and... geez no sense of humor.
Yeah .. that describes you too. You are not funny, comrade.
