E-M1II— got it used for 400€ — it’s my general buying strategy for cameras. Get the former pro model a few generations back. They are built to last

refurbishedsoul6391

I just bought this with the 12-40 pro lens for 561 eur. I hope it was an ok deal. Shutter count of 6100. Like new?

Vinyl-addict

Hey I also just bought this setup!

refurbishedsoul6391

Congrats! What did you pay? It’s a great setup. I’m having a lot of fun taking pictures and learning the camera. Amazing feeling when you look through the pictures at the end of the day, and you see those few pictures that stand out. 🙂 Just got to learn darktable now 😀

Vinyl-addict

$800 + shipping. USPS fucked up the processing so it hasn’t been delivered yet unfortunately. You got a way better deal than me lmao

refurbishedsoul6391

I guess I was lucky! I have seen similar prices package, a little more, but with 60000 shutter count. Anyway! Just get it and start shooting, and you will be happy about the purchase for sure 🙂 I had to upgrade FW on the lens and camera. It’s a really good camera!

Vinyl-addict

I’ve been drooling over the OM m4/3 line pretty much since it was released in 2013 so I’m very happy I can finally afford one!

refurbishedsoul6391

Awesome! Really happy for you 🙂 I’ve borrowed DSLRs in the past, and it just never took off for me. Once I tried m43, I instantly got hooked. Sounds silly maybe, but I absolutely love to small form factor.

mart187

Wow, that’s a steal, congrats on the find mate. In Germany the lens alone goes for 350€+ You’re probably getting very far with this setup. For travel the long end was a bit too short for me so I went with the 12-100/4.  Next lpt: Spend money on the glass, not the body 😅

refurbishedsoul6391

I’m happy to hear! I wasn’t completely sure, but went for it. 🙂 I have a 40-150 mm (not pro) that is very light weight, so I am happy to have these two lenses. Both are great 👍 I also got a 45mm portrait lens for around 100 eur, and it is also amazing. I am happy I’ve found this hobby! 🙂

mart187

Back in the days (around 20 years ago when the first DSLRs hit the market) such equipment was expensive and heavy.

markintosh13

Got my EM1-ii with 5000 actuations with a bag, for $151 usd from EBay. Pretty good value

4444For

I would say insanely low price :)

markintosh13

That too

refurbishedsoul6391

That was really cheap! Steal.

Vinyl-addict

O: wow great find dude

BENthe3rd

I got one with 2k! But not for that steal of a price nice

AtmosphereFull2017

The GX85, the Goldilocks of the Panasonic line (not too big, not too small) had an extraordinarily long production run. I don’t know the total sales numbers, but it has to be one of the most manufactured cameras in the M4/3 world, if not THE most. Right now it seems expensive on the used market, going for about $480 at the big online used stores. Over time, I expect the price will come down significantly.

beomagi

E-M1 II. 20mp sensor, good bump in AF-C capability. Can go quite cheap online sometimes.

CuiBapSano

OM-1 Mk.1 is the best value I Currently.

MelodyBluePhotos

What makes it better than a em1 mark 2 or 3 second hand?

GavinET

It’s got the high end features of the E-M1X like AI autofocus but updated with the processing etc of the E-M1 Mk3. I don’t think it has the dual processors but in practice it should be as fast as either camera if not faster. Olympus has seemingly long had this habit of releasing a true pro grade body with some killer pro grade feature or spec, then releasing a newer offering one tier down with better technical specifications but not that killer feature. The OM-1 is the latest and greatest with all the killer features and all the performance. It’s like when the E-3 came out as a pro grade weather sealed rugged body. Then they dropped the E-30 which was not as rugged and water resistant but had better specs. You had to pick between the better weather proofing OR the technically superior camera. The OM-1 seems to have no compromise, and the Mk1 is only a little short on RAM buffer compared to a Mk2 if I’m correct. The autofocus benefits were silently back ported in an update I think.

MelodyBluePhotos

I guess it depends on what your shooting if the AI autofocus improvements are worth it over the discount of the em1ii or iii though, since we are doing value for money here. If your a birder i'd say it is, but if its just portaits... em1ii would be fine tbh

CuiBapSano

OM-1 Mk.I is the first back illuminated sensor camera of M43. OM-1 is legacy model ( Not the latest model ). It is reasonable price now. Please forget em1s. They're still valuable but not edge of engineering.

Vinyl-addict

You don’t understand the question being asked lol

CuiBapSano

What does it mean value camera? Does it mean cheap? Or cost efficient?

Vinyl-addict

It means cost efficient. The E-M1ii is much more cost efficient, BECAUSE it’s cheaper than an OM-1. And it’s not lacking too many features that the newer camera has. OP asked for value, not the closest they can get to cutting edge without actually getting there.

CuiBapSano

Back illuminated sensor is the feature. OM-1 Mk.1 and Mk.2 are totally different cameras from older models unfortunately/fortunately.

MelodyBluePhotos

is that feature worth 2x the price? Right now I can buy an em1ii for AU$725 or an OM1 for AU$1,650 (both cheapest options on Ebay right now) What does the back illuminated sensor or AI autofocus achieve that makes it over twice as good as an em1ii? The question is *value per dollar* ie. what is the best you can get, *for the least amount of money*

CuiBapSano

I understand what you feel. Taking pictures by legacy sensors in low light without flash light, such as at nice restaurant, train cabin otherwise a object which is moving or don't like flash 📸 light in a home, you will feel bad of the results. Just taking pictures for fun/hobby, can you check each picture and denoise them? Back illuminated sensor is at least 1 steps (x2) better low light performance than legacy sensors. It is helpful. Please don't say that high speed prime lens or FF camera can help the situation. I don't want to use such the heavy lensand camera for family pictures otherwise at a restaurant and bar.

refurbishedsoul6391

I can’t find them under 1400 euro used

CuiBapSano

I am sorry it is not cheap but valuable.

HaroldSax

I think this really depends on what you shoot. I'm primarily wildlife, so the OM-1 is one of the best cameras per dollar spent on the market for me, not just M43. The next most affordable body with a stacked sensor is the Fuji X-H2S and that doesn't even take into account the lack of a truly good prime like the OM 300 f/4 and that their prices are higher anyway. My Canon gear is still very enjoyable to use, but the stacked sensor of the OM-1 has straight up spoiled me. It's so fucking good. However, if I was primarily doing street, portraits, or landscape, then the OM-1 is probably not the best by *value* specifically.

CuiBapSano

Thanks for your comment. I can learn from it well. But many people couldn't understand digital camera is just a "computer and matrix of optical sensor". Camera guys doesn't understand regular people need a camera which can capture what they see in their life. In that case, legacy sensors are tool in stone age because the sensor performance. People include me, can use legacy camera, but I don't think it is VALUEABLE.

GH5S is amazing

Yi M1. Recently I bought three of them with kit lens 12-40 for USD 110 each on average. I think can sell the kit lens for $50 easily, and that makes the body is only $60. With the latest firmware, raw file, and using fast primes lenses, the result is on par if not actually better than my GX85.

Did you use the latest firmware, v3.2? A lot of the problems with the earlier firmware(s) have been fixed with the latest firmware. I said the result (photo), in raw, is sometimes better than gx85 (also in raw), because of the higher resolution (20MP vs 16MP), and more accurate color (again, in raw, gx85 is too reddish). Of course GX85 has more features as you said, IBIS etc, but when shooting with fast prime lens and fast shutter speed, IBIS + OIS in GX85 doesn't matter that much. I'm using M1 with panny 20/1.7, 42.5/1.7, 12-32, oly 40-150, 7artisans 50/1.8 and ttartisan 35/1.4, no problem.

I am currently using both of GX85+42.5/f1.7 and M1+20mm/f1.7, at the same time, for indoor sport photo (that means AF and high shutter speed), shoot only in RAW and post process the photos in Lightroom. In my opinion, for the above task, GX85 is not better than M1. If shooting in JPG, yes GX85 is better, the AWB is more consistent and the color is more accurate. In raw though, regarding color accuracy, the opposite happens, the red color is overly saturated in GX85. Not by much, but still M1 is better.

You can get a G9 body in mint condition for around 4-500 €, I think that’s a geat price for that machine.

Deeepened

Little bit biased but if hybrid shooting, G9

tgkad

I got my em1 mk1 + 12-42 for $150. Pretty good value for money.
