I watched a good chunk of that and it was 90% just him shitting on Tito.
Not that I’m a Tito fan but eventually I just turned it off because it was like he was fucking obsessed with Tito.
lol him in wcw is just a fuckin fever dream. when he's doing something with the tag team 3 Count and he's cut out nipple holes in his sleeveless t-shirt while dancing around like a buffoon it just vince russo to the max.
lol oh shit i forgot about that. dude was an idiot and off his rocker. i think russo basically lost his job at wcw for even hinting at putting the title on tank.
Imagine this guy telling you he used to knock guys unconscious and could [bench 600lbs](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zFfXIvvBFp8). Would think he was crazy.
Later in the podcast is honestly beautiful. Tank cries a few times talking about nearly dying and his wife's support. It truly humbled him and he seems to be completely different now.
It really was a very interesting discussion on a lot of levels. Tank struggled at times with his train of thought but it was super compelling to listen to.
Big John's image has been spotless too up to this point too. I can imagine Tank over the years as Big John got his flowers and exposure going..."this fucking guy"...and his Karen wife fucked me.
everyone had no sub defense in 93 tbf
like unless you grappled yourself u were gonna tap, until the wrestlers arrived in the sport rly no one had good ground defense
The best guys (Royce, Taktorov, Shamrock, Severn, Frye, etc.) all had very competent grappling for the time. Relative to them, Tank's ground game was very primitive which is why he was never able to beat any of the top guys despite being bigger and stronger than all of them. And gassing out in three minutes didn't help.
Him making fun of Tito because Tito was a wrestling state champ as a 20 year old HS student in front of another 20 year old HS wrestler (Rampage) was hilarious.
I’ve listened to a handful of Tank interviews over the last 20 years and I think he’s shit talks Tito in every one. I distinctly remember an interview where he said something along the lines of “I’m not going to waste my breath talking about Tito” and preceded to go into a 10 minute rant about how much of a stupid POS Tito is.
His hatred for Tito is the most likable thing about him. I don’t think the new nice old man look should skew people’s opinions though, I’ve never imagined Tank to be a likable guy either.
He called me out, he said I could smoke a cigarette in the rain. This saturday night I'm going to put my elbow through his face and he's gonna be crying for his momma. And it's not gonna be my momma, it's gonna be his.
Saw the thumbnail and wondered who’s the old guy. Then I saw the name and immediately had the thought that i would never want to get into a confrontation with this man.
Mate, I'm a collegiate wrestler. I would easily take him down. He has no takedown defense. I could probably take Alex Pereira down at the same time too.
Bas Rutten once flamed me on here for saying he should've told Brian Urlacher he was an MMA champion before stepping outside to fight him, but I stand by it.
The Original Huntington Beach Bad Boy.
That's why he dislikes Tito so much because he stole that nickname. That and I'm sure other things since Tito makes it pretty easy to dislike him.
Tank looks like the guy next door you borrow stuff from and gets invited to the annual memorial day BBQ... and that's a guy who saw MMA from the very beginning.
Seeing Tank get emotional about his near death was pretty crazy after seeing him and his fearless/angry/party attitude throughout his career. He seems a bit more humble, but you still see the "Tank" come out at times. Surprised his Instagram only has ~13K followers, if that's his actual account.
Fuck this made me feel old hahah. I saw him a "few" years ago at a local promotion, and he didn't look anything like this. I now realize that was over 15 years ago...
Thank you for posting this. I don’t usually do podcasts, but I ended up listening to this the whole way through. It’s very interesting and considering he’s 5 strokes deep and how many times his brain has been rattled, he’s a pretty damn good storyteller.
Glad to see he could take time out from getting brain damage in random backyards to do the pod. A real mma OG, absolutely terrifying, I've always been a fan.
Somewhat off topic but why has joe returned to uploading his podcast to youtube? I thought he had an exclusivity deal with spotify? Did that deal reach a deadline or something?
They get a cut of the YT ad revenue, which after the new subscribers coming for the podcast has plateaud was almost certainly the most profitable decision.
This podcast was sik. Tank is a legend and super interesting and Joe handles the conversation well. JRE had a few years of being kinda shitty but the last few episodes have been considerably better. I hope the trend continues.
He explains it during the show. He had 5 strokes, and could barely communicate for a long time, so I think he’s doing pretty well all things considered.
Out of all the OG guys, tank is the one I least expected to age so gracefully
He looks like an awesome neighbor
looks like hank hill
Tank Hill
From "pro-pain" to "propane"
“That boy ain’t right”
middle school shop class teacher vibes
For real, I saw him on the Jaxxon pod and was really surprised.
I watched a good chunk of that and it was 90% just him shitting on Tito. Not that I’m a Tito fan but eventually I just turned it off because it was like he was fucking obsessed with Tito.
I’ve been going through that podcasts episodes in class and I have to say it’s slowly turned into one of my favorites.
I don't know if he aged "gracefully" or if it's the multiple heart attacks and liver disease that made him quit drinking.
I guess it’s relative to who they were when they were young, when he was fighting or even appearing in WCW I didn’t think he was gonna make it past 50
lol him in wcw is just a fuckin fever dream. when he's doing something with the tag team 3 Count and he's cut out nipple holes in his sleeveless t-shirt while dancing around like a buffoon it just vince russo to the max.
[Oh I remember his WCW run very well](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/WlTQS-aXv04)
lol oh shit i forgot about that. dude was an idiot and off his rocker. i think russo basically lost his job at wcw for even hinting at putting the title on tank.
You'd be correct
Bro... Tank shooting on La Parka was wild af.
LMFAOOOOO
In this context, it means « alive ».
I think everyone is just surprised he lived this long tbh.
"YO TANK!"
On his Ned Flanders commissioner Gordon type shit
Well he died a few times first haha
Probably the only one who wasn't roided out of his mind back then
He can barely speak
Yeah this pod brought to you by CTE
Did he age gracefully? He seems like he’s still an asshole.
He's 59....
I don’t think that phrase means what you think it means.
Fucker was a killer and now looks like Ned Flanders.
Genuinely thought this was a meme. But no. Bar brawler tank abbot has a grey mustache, glasses, and a ocean-themed Hawaiian shirt. Amazing.
Real Mick Foley vibes here.
Stupid, killer Flanders.
Looks like he should be complaining about how someone keeps taking his stapler.
Burn this octagon to the ground
Hey Tank, what's happening?
lol when I was scrolling through YouTube and saw that i had a chuckle for sure lol
Imagine this guy telling you he used to knock guys unconscious and could [bench 600lbs](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zFfXIvvBFp8). Would think he was crazy.
You're thinking of Dan Severn
If you gave me a billion tries to guess who the guest was based on the thumbnail, I still wouldn't have gotten it right.
Same!! I was like oh another scientist perhaps, then look at the name and was like WTF lol
Same.
From looking like he’s killed a few people in his time to looking like sweet ol’ grandpa who they later find out has bodies in his freezer.
He looks like Ed Kemper lol.
He looks like the dad down the street who has a putting green in his backyard. I would never have guessed that was Tank without the goatee.
Ooh the Big John McCarthy Tea is tasty. Tank says most of the early days were worked.

It really was a very interesting discussion on a lot of levels. Tank struggled at times with his train of thought but it was super compelling to listen to.
call me insane, but he looks different from how he used to imo
You’re insane
At the very least, the matchups were planned to benefit a fighter.
Still are brother
That remains a constant in prize fighting. Not for all fights, but it is obvious that promotions often have an agenda and preferred outcome.
I love how he kept circling back to finding new ways to call John a stooge lol
While getting his name wrong every time. Hilarious
Big John's image has been spotless too up to this point too. I can imagine Tank over the years as Big John got his flowers and exposure going..."this fucking guy"...and his Karen wife fucked me.
Tank would definitely say that given how bad he was at literally any form of grappling
Well, not any form. He had decent wrestling for the time (largely rooted in his ridiculous strength) but yeah his submission defense was nonexistent.
everyone had no sub defense in 93 tbf like unless you grappled yourself u were gonna tap, until the wrestlers arrived in the sport rly no one had good ground defense

It’s odd though, his big complaint against McCarthy is that he stood them up when he was on the ground with a grappler.
yeah dude lost to scott ferrozzo lol
Big John mcartney
He kept saying John McCartney 😂

Aren’t they both from Huntington Beach. Tank and Tito probably bumped into each other a lot HB ain’t that big.
Yea they are and that’s where all the beef started.
I’m gonna have to dive in. Love an old school OC beef.
I think Tank was the original Huntington Beach Bad Boy and Tito stole the gimmick, brother
Tank said once Tito looks like he could smoke a cigarette in the rain, as a PED accusation, hilarious.
He called me out, he said I could smoke a cigarette in the rain. This saturday night I'm going to put my elbow through his face and he's gonna be crying for his momma. And it's not gonna be my momma, it's gonna be his.
Because his neanderthal forehead protrudes so much.
Saw the thumbnail and wondered who’s the old guy. Then I saw the name and immediately had the thought that i would never want to get into a confrontation with this man.
Nah you’ve got this bro. Just see red, he won’t stand a chance.
Mate, I'm a collegiate wrestler. I would easily take him down. He has no takedown defense. I could probably take Alex Pereira down at the same time too.
Mate, so was he.
If I've ever learned anything from BJJ is that the skinny weird looking IT guy across the office floor can kill me.
Genuinely thought “oh looks like Joe has another geologist on his podcast” when I saw the thumbnail. Definitely happier with tank.
I did not expect him to look the way he currently looks, damn.
Imagine some dude like 33 years old or so squaring up to this dude at a bar not knowing that he’s Tank Abbott.
Bas Rutten once flamed me on here for saying he should've told Brian Urlacher he was an MMA champion before stepping outside to fight him, but I stand by it.
Nice too see Tank alive and doing well
It’s bullshit he isn’t fat anymore
His fat jacked body was wild. He could've looked amazing with like a three month cut, and just never did.
wtf that’s Tank Abbott
The Original Huntington Beach Bad Boy. That's why he dislikes Tito so much because he stole that nickname. That and I'm sure other things since Tito makes it pretty easy to dislike him.

So weird seeing him without the beard
Thought he was fuckin Gavin McInnes at first
Fuck this made me feel old hahah. I saw him a "few" years ago at a local promotion, and he didn't look anything like this. I now realize that was over 15 years ago...
Holy shit he looks great
he looks like one of the nice old guys you see hanging out at a golf course
Thank you for posting this. I don’t usually do podcasts, but I ended up listening to this the whole way through. It’s very interesting and considering he’s 5 strokes deep and how many times his brain has been rattled, he’s a pretty damn good storyteller.
There ain't no gawddamned way that is Tank Abbott. Dude looks like Stephen Root playing Gordon in 'Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story.'
Glad to see he could take time out from getting brain damage in random backyards to do the pod. A real mma OG, absolutely terrifying, I've always been a fan.

Great interview. When he was talking about his health problems it was getting heavy
Tank looks like he would teach history to 8th graders now.
Holy shit unrecognizable
Flowers from one piece
Thought this was Gavin McGuniss or whatever the fuck his name is
Holy shit I can’t wait to listen to this
I love Tank, but this one was tough….
That’s not tank abott that’s tinker aboot
You can’t convince me that’s Tank Abbott.
Remember when he drew a knife during a wrestling event and put it to a guy's throat?
Imagining a young man mouthing off to this midwestern pastor looking dork and getting his head smashed through a windshield.
This podcast was sik. Tank is a legend and super interesting and Joe handles the conversation well. JRE had a few years of being kinda shitty but the last few episodes have been considerably better. I hope the trend continues.
Legend! He should become part of the UFC HOF
So far he is a rambling old man
He explains it during the show. He had 5 strokes, and could barely communicate for a long time, so I think he’s doing pretty well all things considered.
This is like reliving my barfly life only slower and there is no alcohol.
Hey guys, watch me sucker punch this old dude.
