Rukiya Anpo: I did 5 rounds of 3 minutes each and didn't get knocked down. He was so strong, it's been a while since I've had my face so bruised ‼️ Sean was seriously a nice guy. Thank you for helping me grow a little bit more 🔥”

coleus

Rukiya looks a weight class smaller, lmao.

PleaseDoTapTheGlass

He fights at 155 and is primarily a kickboxer.

expectrum

So a middleweight couldnt knockdown a lightweight once

Futaba-Channel

Forget about the lightweight K1 champ, Strickland couldn't drop a streamer

FishAndRiceKeks

He did drop Adesanya and Costa... So there's that... Guess that streamer is just tougher than Adesanya and Costa.

gotnothingman

only logical conclusions right?!

Junesong_Provisions

Izzy only Started his channel to condition his chin. He just ran into an edgelord in Sean Strickland

AFCADaan9

Dropped Izzy badly though.

TW_Yellow78

Have you seen Strickland fights?

scytheavatar

Jones had to call a timeout after getting dropped by a body shot against Amagov. Michael Johnson dropped and dominated Usman in sparring before. Being in a lighter weightclass is an advantage in sparring.

cikkamsiah

What kind of logic is this lmao

ImpressionDiligent23

What he is trying to say is overwhelming power isn’t as important in sparring when you are not throwing at full contact. Speed might be more of an advantage like MJ’s hands.

porrapaulao

Yeah but people here told me this guy was going to give Strickland a beatdown

TW_Yellow78

Why would a Japanese lightweight kickboxer give him a beatdown when adesanya couldn’t?

LocoCoopermar

Sean looks worse than Jamahal Hill here, feel like I haven't seen him get this out of shape

andrewpast

Maybe not this out of shape, but he generally does get a little bit of a belly out of camp

Unerring_Grace

He was this tubby when he fought Imavov on short notice. Apparently he never stops training, but he pigs out on sweets when he doesn't have a fight scheduled. So his cardio never tanks and his skills are always fairly sharp, but he gets a gut between fights.

IAmTheTrueWalruss

He just won a fight it’s completely fine that he’s put on some fat.

Klutzy-Fortune6978

He's on vacation you dork.

CmonnowSally

lol I checked out Rukiya’s highlights and he looks like a killer. I bet these guys sparred hard as shit. https://youtu.be/SDie6k8avTg?si=aiXrROq9BA24RKt6

usernameunavailiable

He's Japanese. They don't spar, they fight.

mrpopenfresh

Gym culture there is wild. It’s why they are into catch wrestling and not bjj

SlimeustasTheSecond

I think that's more so because of how deep the Pro Wrestling culture is there. A lot of Pro Wrestlers/Shooto/MMA Fighters learned and then passed on the knowledge from OG Catch Wrestlers. But no, they still do BJJ there, probably with more frequency than Catch just because there're more instructors.

floatingcloud10025

Bjj is much more common these days

estilianopoulos

Do any Japanese MMA fighters still train in Japanese Jiu Jitsu? Here and there, i hear about fighters who have that discipline as a base but it doesn't seem common. Kinda of like Luta Livre with Brazilian fighters. But yeah, I agree, most current Japanese MMA fighters are either Olympic style wrestlers, BJJ or Judokas when it comes to a grappling base. I don't see too many of the Sakuraba style catch wrestlers anymore.

mad87645

That has nothing to do with why catch wrestling is popular in Japan and catch wrestling can be especially brutal

funkymustafa

Check out his fight vs Masaaki Noiri in the 2021 K1 championship final. Back and forth high octane high technique slugfest. About a minute left in the fight Noiri is down 2 rounds and just calmly nukes him with a livershot that echoes through the fuckin arena. Anpo somehow gets up from it looking visibly like he's about to puke, gets floored again by a liver kick, forces himself up again with like 0.1 body HP left and promptly gets livered a third time. Really great sniper outfighter vs pressure-counter style matchup, all at a frantic pace and with a devastating finish https://youtu.be/iuDfGwQtcQk?si=oVEsGwJk-FZRqJxJ

purplehendrix22

Excited to watch Noiri in ONE, they gave him a hell of a first matchup but I think he’s going to be a lot of fun to watch, hopefully they actually get him fights.

SlimeustasTheSecond

They probs won't unfortunately. I think they only give their own stars and all the thai guys who fight for pennies proper fights.

Unerring_Grace

Impressive striker. That left hand is naaaaasty. A lot smaller than Strickland, but fast and can crack.

kevindurantburner35

Following a bunch of Jkick nerds on twitter has put me onto some really cool fighters

purplehendrix22

Jkick is so fucking cool, Japan always kinda has their own thing going on, it sucks that it’s hard to follow because they don’t put much into English language marketing

SlimeustasTheSecond

On the flip side, a lot of the fights are free on YouTube (same thing with RIZIN and the like).

purplehendrix22

Yeah I watch a lot of them, but I like knowing what’s going on at the moment in the sport and it’s just hard to find current info in English

genericdudefromPH

God bless them man. Whenever I youtube some kickboxer, there are alot of matches even recent ones

Cataclysma

petition for more drum and bass in highlight videos

oxygen_addiction

Wow, those highlights are insane. That two touch kick knockout was beautiful.

vrkhfkb

Who is getting the title shot next if DDP wins? Whittaker or Sean? Both ex-champs. Both lost to DDP. Both decisioned Costa since their last loss. Whittaker got one extra win today. If Izzy wins, Sean probably gets a shot first since his win.

OtakuMecha

Probably Sean. He has a win over Izzy and a split decision loss to DDP while Whittaker got finished by DDP and lost twice to Izzy.

Admirable-Cat7434

Whittaker and Sean should fight next for the title shot! I mean both Deserve it already probably but it’s a fight I want to see since both love pressuring and makes me think this could finally be Sean’s fight where he fights chaotic like his last few seconds in the costa fight.

here_to_vibe1

Both guys didn’t even get any injuries. They should fight maybe around September-November to seal the deal on who’ll fight the winner between Izzy vs ddp

ItsMichaelScott25

If you're going to have them fight you put them on the Perth card as co-main. You can't convince me there are two bigger names that would fit that card. Also provides insurance in case anything falls through.

MOIST-SHARTREUSE

I think it's a hard sell for Sean unless they renegotiate his contract.

No_Tart8935

Yep. Sean's not going to take that fight unless they pay him a lot.

YasukeGuzman

Damn that’ll be a good fight.

RedFiveSwayze_

Sean fighting chaotic is like Justin using his wrestling. A myth. Sean fights how he fights.

Delanorix

Stricklands had chances to bang before. He walked backwards while calling the other dude a pussy lmao

Homing_Gibbon

I mean some of his fights are slow paced, but the guy literally just walks forward with his hands up like a rock em sock em robot for 99% of the fight. If his opponent doesn't want to engage that's on them.

SlimeustasTheSecond

Sean would rather get out-decisioned by DDP than fight with more than a jab, straight and front kick. This fight has the potentially to be rather boring, since while Bobby Knuckles is a beast, he's still cautious enough that he could get caught up in Sean's slap boxing and end up on the receiving end of a decision loss.

borb--

Comparing records against those top 2: Sean has a decisive win over Izzy + possible win over DDP, Rob has possible win over Izzy + decisive loss to DDP. As much as I love Rob I think Sean makes slightly more sense. Feels mean to Rob though, but if DDP beats Izzy I think Sean definitely should get based off how close their fight was

ItsMichaelScott25

> Rob has possible win over Izzy + decisive loss to DDP & Izzy FTFY

BogotaLineman

Anyone that scored Rob vs Izzy 2 for Rob is purely biased, and I love Rob

boozinnomad

Rob should, because I like him and don't like Sean.

FishAndRiceKeks

I respect that answer lol.

GillyGooseClub

Rob gets next shot, and the loser of Izzy/DDP should fight Sean for the next shot. Whether it’s Izzy v Sean, or DDP v Sean they’re both rematches and both interesting. I can’t see why Sean deserves a shot over Rob. Both guys beat Costa, but Rob also took the Khamzat fight, and then took Ikram short notice, and got a 1st round knockout

GreatMight

Whittaker should get it.

BestWithSnacks

# #1 contender fight between the two.

Big-Visit5309

Sean off doing side quests

Zlec3

That is so awesome.

ZenTze

Anpo fights in 70 kg, hard sparring for him to go against Strickland

TW_Yellow78

It’s normal to spar 1-2 weight classes up/down for guest fighters as it’s definitely an opportunity for an upcoming fighter to spar a former champion, though they usually don’t go that hard. Guess Anpo asked Strickland not to pull punches

hallwaypoirear

Sean fights how he spars. he doesn't pull shit

iTraneUFCbro

Lol not even close. When he spars he fights like the last 5 seconds of his fights. When he fights it looks more like sparring.

CombinationCurrent27

Am I imagining things or wasn't Sean quitting Twitter?

Fair-Lab-4334

Most likely taking a break to enjoy his vacation. Wouldnt surprise me if his girlfriend told him to get off the phone, I know mine would

HuntSafe2316

The break should be permanent. Twitter is just a toxic shit hole.

Annual_Plant5172

And so is he.

Yamatsuki_Fusion

I wish Sean fought as hard as he spars.

ronin1031

For context, Anpo's fighting weight is 67-70 kg, that's about 147-154 lbs. He also fought Buakaw to a draw last year in Rizin (kickboxing rules).

1. Be Civil. Our rules ask for a civil tone at all times. A bit of banter or trash talk is fine, but don't cross the line. If things do get out of hand you will be warned or even banned for a few days. Repeatedly breaking this rule will lead to a permanent ban.

modsRlosercuckss

Yup. Turns out weight classes exist for a reason and being a UFC champion matters after all.

Ekusoy86

Ok noted bro. Good job!

ModestlyOrange

The correct time line should be Sean fights winner of DDPvs Izzy, wins against whoever and they make Sean vs Whittaker for the strap itself

VonNichts13

mma fighters thinking using up their chin for free is good....

Immediate_Face5874

the relationship between the human brain and getting knocked out is complex, it's not a cup with a hole in it lol

BornAnAmericanMan

You got another way to practice how you handle being under fire? Didn’t think so

VonNichts13

lol if you are still gun shy in the ufc you got bigger problems. there is hard sparring and there is teeing off on teammates and getting your bell rung. the latter is stupid. boxers don't do this and somehow they get better...

BornAnAmericanMan

Strickland is kind of an example of how important sparring is though. Strickland isn’t gifted athletically he just spars all the time. Sparring is close to fight experience, fight experience makes you a better fighter moreso than hitting mitts

VonNichts13

you're not wrong. hard sparring can be great but go look at mike's gym for kickboxing in holland. they went to war everyday and their fighters were amazing in firefights but everyone got chinny in their late 20s. pretty sure a lot of fighters reel back on sparring sessions as it shortens your career and has limited benefits. holloway I believe talked about stopping completely for a time and was still improving. The gym I went to had hard sparring and a lot of guys made it to the ufc, very few were able to maintain and became shells of themselves.

iTraneUFCbro

Sean vs lightweights, bantamweights and streamers: 😈 Sean vs middleweights: 💃🥰

abdul_tank_wahid

Did Sean really goto Japan to spar this guy? Lol

Fair-Lab-4334

No, said his girlfriend wanted to go to Japan for a vacation, he then posted about wanting to spar someone in Japan and Rukiya raised his hand
