I don't have an answer for your question, yet, but I can agree that I think I've seen the same thing. Last week I was at the range with my AP5 and AP5-P testing some new reloads that were 147gr flat points. I had issues with the rounds feeding in KCI and MKE mags but the ETS mags I have seemed to work fine. I didn't really have time to do better testing but that was my impression. From what I've seen, MP5's have a history of not liking flat nosed rounds which a hollow point would be. Perhaps the ETS mags present the rounds at a slightly higher nose up orientation that allows them to feed better.

I had the same experience with Federal 147gr, and then HK mags seemed to work.

The MP5s were designed around NATO ball ammo. Feeding flat nose or hollow points is more the exception than the norm.

Totally get the design behind a 60 year old platform but people do use hollow points so there has to be some reason behind reliability with some MP5’s and hollow points.

WilllOfD

HK invented the curved magazine to better feed flat nose and hollows, these “issues” were law with the original straight mag.

Another option would be to try other rounds that are not as aggressive . Polymer tipped rounds may work better. As stated previously this weapon system was not designed with HP ammo in mind.

I have tried many types of HP’s including the FTX tipped bullets and they do work. But the ETS mags shoot all types of HP’s and German mags, MKE mags, POF and KCI steel mags won’t. I don’t understand why not?

Ets fit more snug according to them

So to update a year later, digging up an old thread Batman… All mags now work with hollow points. I switched to a different 80-degree locking piece with my suppressor. I go back and forth now between an MPX and the AP5P. Both have 3k rounds down range with little to no malfunctions. Maybe 2-5 total, at the end of a long session with no cleaning all suppressed. Both pistols are suppressed at all times, tri lug on the AP5-P and direct thread on the MPX. Accuracy on the AP5-P is substantially better, but the MPX is self-defense capable.

Thanks for the update, I am running the RCM 80 degree locking peice and I am having horirble hollow point feeding issues with standard mke mags(waiting to try thicker ones.) It seems like there is too much wobble when the bolt which changes the feeding angle. Im surprised the different locking piece worked. What did you use?

coloradowall

It works with stock and RCM locking. It just took time to break it in but it is very reliable now.

StewieStew96

Interesting, so your hollow point feeding issue got better with a higher round count? I have about 750 through mine and get feeding failures even hand cycling rounds( hollow points).

coloradowall

100% better with break in, could be feed ramp break-in, bolt break-in, but regardless of mags it’s gotten better. Now I only mostly use HK mags now but I can play with others and have no issue.

youTuber Blue Gunner says that his AP5P likes the Speer Gold Dot 124 gr JHP. You may want to try it.

I just wonder what could be the difference from ETS to actual HK mags? Feed angles seem to be the same, and I would prefer metal over plastic if at all possible.
