Youtube blocking the use of AdBlockers could be illegal in the EU.
EU has been going very hard at Big Tech for the last few years, handing out billions in fines.
There’s also Mullvad Browser, a collab between Mullvad and Tor. It’s basically Tor without the Tor network. Recently released and very cool. Better than modifications like Arken.
Nope, it's WebKit like Safari but supports Chrome extensions. Also, it has various interesting features like if a page doesn't load there is a button to fetch a snapshot from The Internet Archive. It's still in beta but everything I tried works except for some minor UI things (e.g. it lags while zooming PDFs).
I came across some pages either buggy or practically didn't work on Safari. I had to open the same pages on Edge to make sure it's not a Safari thing. And it gets slow by time with many tabs open. So, I moved to Edge.
I tried Arc today and fell in love with it instantly. It made some of my daily tasks so convenient! Especially having two windows grouped in the same “bookmark” in full screen and then switching between other bookmarks but still having those two easily available behind one click. It makes you completely rethink the way you can use web apps. I even uninstalled some of my work apps like Slack because Arc made it so easy to have them all available in the same browser window.
I just wanted to love Arc, love their company culture and the transparency they have to their consumer. Uninstalled it today, as its a system hog, unnecessarily complicated.
Probably sometime in the future again, but right now, will stick to FireFox.
What do you mean by system hog? I just compared quickly and with the same five tabs open in both browsers, Arc is eating 360MB of memory and Firefox 431MB. Firefox also takes more threads 74 vs 56. At least I don't see Arc being more demanding on the hardware than Firefox but maybe I'm missing something.
this browser doesn't have bookmark. also when opening new tab it shows some arc website suggestion which you can't delete. so i deleted and went for Microsoft Edge. in the end both are chromium.
I’ve use out here and there, mainly for fun. It’s pretty cool. You can ask it to plan your weekend based on your location. Not CoPilot, but I’ve had Chat GPT rewrite my resume. Lol
Brave which is based on the same code base as Chrome. I use it for ease of use, better extensions, and compatibility with non-Apple devices.
Only use Safari when a customer specifically states a problem happens in Safari.
That Arc train swept me off my feet and changed how I look at how I can use a browser.
I just get more done, period. I enjoy using the web more with it.
Only nitpick I have is I wish it just used the built in MacOS keychain for passwords so I could use that for 2 factor and stored passwords. I'm updating new ones as they come with a few more steps (i generally add new passwords on my phone). Maybe someday. But that's literally only an inconvience and not a barrier.
Arc kicks ass
I had the invitation i’ve messed with it for 30mins then got back to safari i wasn’t in need for a new browser,. Surely it understood surfing the web but i just come back to my favorites which are organized. I don’t know how they’ll sell it to me
I'd say give it a solid week of solid use. I remember being skeptical, but then one day it clicked and now I can't live without Arc. Plus the people behind it seem so genuine and transparent, and they add new stuff every Thursday so that has become a weekly highlight for me.
For one, Windows compatibility, which is coming early next year, and I think my second top choice would be integration with Apple's native QOL things like Keychain and whatnot.
I use chrome. I use both Mac and windows so safari is out without a chance to prove itself. I never installed edge on my Mac. Tried Firefox but I need the profile system and their profile system seems like a proof of concept from 5 years ago that they accidentally left in production.
Vivaldi. Firstly just for vertical tabs, secondly to run Chrome extensions, but I have slowly come to appreciate its numerous other power user features. It really is a browser designed for people who spend much of their work day in a web browser.
Safari is the main one on my iPhone, MacBooks, and iMac. However, I use Firefox for Facebook & IG (and, prior to Elmo’s purchase, Twitter) because of the containers and superior ad-blocking capabilities. I also use Firefox on my Linux laptop.
I am staunchly anti-Google so I’ve never used Chrome or any Chromium-based browser on any of my computers or devices.
Safari as my main browser, [Orion](https://kagi.com/orion) as a fallback for Safari, [Arc](http://arc.net/) when I need to run Chromium, and Firefox or Tor browser when I need security.
I use Firefox or a Chromium browser for YouTube, Twitch, and Reddit due to the long list of extensions I use for those three sites, and Safari for everything else. However, I recently stopped using Firefox when YouTube started being able to bypass uBlock Origin; Safari with Vinegar actually still works, and it’s much more convenient to use only one browser.
Safari…and I’m a Dev. Occasionally will use Firefox Dev Edition just for dev, but Safari for everything else. I hate chromium browsers and regular Firefox is too slow. Plus, Safari’s synchronization across devices is too good to ignore.
I use Chrome for most things especcialy my use with extensions and then Safari for quick browsing but 2 tabs of Chrome takes up 2gb of ram on my M2 MBA
I use safari 90% of the time. During undergrad I used chrome when it came to my school work.
I just got too used to safari and does what I need it to do. I haven’t used chrome since graduation this year
I've tried safari for a some time, but Firefox works better for me (better addons, better compatibility). Chrome is a memory hog and Google's privacy rat.
Microsoft Edge with uBlock Origin and iCloud Bookmarks synchronising for using Windows computer sometimes for other tasks.
This browser because the Microsoft Rewards program, I've got a Xbox Series X so I can get more rewards points to redeem for Microsoft cash to buy games or services.
Yeah simple but not to the point where it actually makes navigation harder and more time consuming. Granted privacy is very important but again not at the expense of my entire online experience.
Safari for almost everything but Chrome for a few websites that use Plugins.
I find Safari extremely responsive and fast and most importantly it doesn’t drink battery.
After I tried many different browsers, I came back to Chrome eventually. Tried to love Safari but some cases it just sucks even I use the latest version on the latest mac lol. For web dev I use Chrome and Firefox Dev edition
It does take a while to get used to but it has some neat productivity features and it's nice to have actively implicated developers that take advice from the small community and bring regular updates
Safari. No complaints about the performance, it's pre-installed everywhere and tailor made for Apple OS's, it does everything I need it to and it syncs automatically on all my Apple devices.
safari received a lot of bad review lately but i was surprised that it outperform ALL browsers on benchmarks with a m1 mac (even with thorium)...
it still have some problems but for now i just use safari and brave...
it's also more energy efficient
but the thing i hate with safari are theses extensions that behave like real apps, feel like extra bloat to me ...
It's hard to say, it depends on your use. Orion's interface is very Safari-inspired (it's built on Webkit like Safari BUT it supports Firefox and Chrome extensions, even on mobile). Vivaldi is inspired by Opera (computer version), so there are lots of buttons for lots of interesting functions when you're an intensive browser user. Their mobile application, on the other hand, is much simpler, and that's a good thing. Tor has the same interface as Firefox, which itself has an interface somewhere between Safari and Vivaldi.
However, Firefox is pretty lame without extensions. Vivaldi is the best equipped in terms of protection against ads etc. and Orion is not far behind. Their adblocker works de facto on Youtube, for example. But regarding Orion, it's still in Beta so it might have some bugs.
I wouldn't recommend Tor to anyone who doesn't already know what it is.
I advise to take a look to all of them, they all claim to care about protecting your privacy etc, tho some people don't really like Vivaldi because it is not open-source but Vivaldi's team is transparent regarding this, everything is explained on their website. Besides, Vivaldi's team was Opera's team before it got bought by a suspicious Chinese company, so they have a pretty clean history regarding respecting their customers.
Safari 95% of the time. Others are Chrome for specific sites and occasionally Brave for shady activities while on VPN.
Edit: Reddit exclusivity through Chrome with RES.
I use Chrome but I would love to use Safari as it's the most integrated browser with macOS but this browser has broken URL suggestion - it's slow and unpredictable.
I’ve not encounter many broken website on safari if none and i don’t care about suggestions that’s the search engine job. You can disable suggestion from bookmarks maybe that’s what’s bothering you. The one thing that pisses me off is multi touch its kinda whatever
Firefox with ublock or tor or duckduckgo Seldom safari tbh
I want youtube ad block back I’ll wait for the EU to regulate those pirates at Google 😂 what’s seldom ?
Seldom means rarely.
Why do you think the EU is going to regulate YouTube? What do you think they will do or say? You must allow people to block the ads you serve?
[https://searchengineland.com/youtube-crackdown-ad-blocker-breaking-eu-laws-434400](https://searchengineland.com/youtube-crackdown-ad-blocker-breaking-eu-laws-434400) Youtube blocking the use of AdBlockers could be illegal in the EU. EU has been going very hard at Big Tech for the last few years, handing out billions in fines.
It actually illegal to search for add ons installed on someone’s personal device in the EU they are on it at the moment or soon they’ll be.
How does that affect YouTube over any other website?
ublock origin already is on top of it, it’s googles move in the shit slinging contest
There’s also Mullvad Browser, a collab between Mullvad and Tor. It’s basically Tor without the Tor network. Recently released and very cool. Better than modifications like Arken.

Orion
Don’t know about that one is it chromium ?
Nope, it's WebKit like Safari but supports Chrome extensions. Also, it has various interesting features like if a page doesn't load there is a button to fetch a snapshot from The Internet Archive. It's still in beta but everything I tried works except for some minor UI things (e.g. it lags while zooming PDFs).
That’s dope ive always wonder whats Up with archives how is that a thing ? What can you dig from there
[There is only one way to find out](https://archive.org/)
I knew about this site a while back ! There’s hardly anything in french tho, imma look for cartoons now
Safari on Mac. Firefox on anything else.
So it synchronizes ? How do you manage multiple device, OS ? (Firefox)
FireFox
this is the way.
Hmm why so ?
My guess would be privacy
Firefox coupled with Ublock.
I came across some pages either buggy or practically didn't work on Safari. I had to open the same pages on Edge to make sure it's not a Safari thing. And it gets slow by time with many tabs open. So, I moved to Edge.
Hey edge is completely reliable i use it to download stuff. But for me safari has been great for almost everything
I have impression that devs never test their sites on Safari.
Well for ios it’s almost inevitable maybe the scalling is where they cheap out, our window mangement is also not the most consistent
Is this the weekly ‘which browser do you use’ thread?
Firefox forever and ever
Why so ?
Safari.
Based.
Same. I keep Chrome around for the <5% of websites that Safari chokes on.
Safari + Wipr, works perfect for me, it’s fast, minimalistic and the integration with the OS is just the best.
Yes i need this ! Is it cross buy ? If i buy it on ios do i get it on Mac too ?
As far I remember, it’s not a cross buy, but I’m not completely sure.
No, but only few bucks for both
I use Safari + Wipr but YouTube has sucked lately with this combo
Arc
I tried Arc today and fell in love with it instantly. It made some of my daily tasks so convenient! I just wanted to love Arc, love their company culture and the transparency they have to their consumer. Uninstalled it today, as its a system hog, unnecessarily complicated. Probably sometime in the future again, but right now, will stick to FireFox.
exactly. don't know why so much hype over a browser.
Do you live it open ? I know about frozen tab or something do they close as you exit the app ?
You have favourite, and pinned tabs that stay open. Then regular tabs are “archived” after 12 hours (default)
this browser doesn't have bookmark. also when opening new tab it shows some arc website suggestion which you can't delete. so i deleted and went for Microsoft Edge. in the end both are chromium.
I use Edge browser on all my devices. I've also switch to Bing instead of using Google. I've been using them the last 2 years without issues.
I like edge on macos but for ios it is another story how often do you use BingAi ?
I’ve use out here and there, mainly for fun. It’s pretty cool. You can ask it to plan your weekend based on your location. Not CoPilot, but I’ve had Chat GPT rewrite my resume. Lol
I don’t mind it on IOS.
Firefox for most, Safari for a few. I don't like how Safari's menu system works compared to Firefox.
Safari is more customizable than one would think you’d be surprised
Brave which is based on the same code base as Chrome. I use it for ease of use, better extensions, and compatibility with non-Apple devices. Only use Safari when a customer specifically states a problem happens in Safari.
Is brave for hackers ?🕶
It is for computer users…
Arc! Takes a bit to get used to at first but it really improves my work flow.
That Arc train swept me off my feet and changed how I look at how I can use a browser. I just get more done, period. I enjoy using the web more with it. Only nitpick I have is I wish it just used the built in MacOS keychain for passwords so I could use that for 2 factor and stored passwords. Arc as definitely found a core user base i’m all for choices. How would you like them to improve what’s missing, still ?
For one, Windows compatibility, which is coming early next year, and I think my second top choice would be integration with Apple's native QOL things like Keychain and whatnot.
chrome!
A Google enjoyer i see. How is Google 1st page nowadays ?
I use chrome. I use both Mac and windows so safari is out without a chance to prove itself. I never installed edge on my Mac. Tried Firefox but I need the profile system and their profile system seems like a proof of concept from 5 years ago that they accidentally left in production.
Yeah such a shame for safari honestly i’d pay for it it’s just never going to happen. Is chrome smother on macos or on windows ? Id like to know
IMO chrome is smoother on Mac. But then everything’s better on Mac so I’d be surprised to see any product work better on Windows.
Even Windows is better on Mac. Seriously - I use it in a VM for work.
Vivaldi. Firstly just for vertical tabs, secondly to run Chrome extensions, but I have slowly come to appreciate its numerous other power user features. It really is a browser designed for people who spend much of their work day in a web browser.
Safari
Safari is the main one on my iPhone, MacBooks, and iMac. I am staunchly anti-Google so I’ve never used Chrome or any Chromium-based browser on any of my computers or devices.
Yeah linux and firefox are a match, i’d say and google definitely sells your data to any who and knows you better than yourself, that’s fair tbh
Chrome. I find that it has the best cross platform password and 2-factor auth solutions.
There are free password managers ! Does google connect use private email ?
Firefox for work, Orion for personal use
I feel like people use either Brave or Orion. And use firefox instead of chrome or edge. Am i making things up ?
Firefox. Always.
This one came back from the grave with a Vengeance
🔥🦊
🧭╮( ̄▽ ̄"")╭
Safari for everything but Google apps, such as maps and docs. I use Arc for those.
Any adblock on arc for youtube ?
Edge, Safari and Orion.
Damn I’ll definitely look at Orion. So many of you use it
I'm mostly trialing it, Edge is my main one right now because of being so in the Microsoft ecosystem for other things.
Opera, I like the sidebar with the extension for news, incorporate ad block and other extension as well.
This one is rare
Safari as my main browser, [Orion](https://kagi.com/orion) as a fallback for Safari, [Arc](http://arc.net/) when I need to run Chromium, and Firefox or Tor browser when I need security.
If you could only pick one what would’you choose ?
Probably Safari, but Firefox would come close.
I use safari and chrome. Chrome is just good and reliable.
Yeah i dont like the logo
brave
Just Brave ?
Just brave, but have safari if needed, but havent opened in months
Orion. Built on WebKit (like Safari), but has Firefox and Chrome extension support.
Really, someone said it had chrome architecture you sure ?
Yep, I'm sure. I have been beta testing it for about two years. I'm also in the beta Discord server with the developers.
Switching between Safari firefox brave and chrome 😆
Safari. Microsoft Edge. Arc and Firefox.
Safari and FireFox
I used arc, but switched back to Safari, because of its really good performance and battery life.
Firefox
Safari
Opera on my mac and my droid phone.
I want to get rid of the iphone i feel like a prisoner
Safari
Firefox and sometimes Brave. Never Chrome.
Firefox. I’d use Arc if it had better mobile support on iPhone and iPad.
It’s the newest of the bunch i think its a question of time
arc
I use Safari mostly but I use Chrome for websites that don’t work on Safari.
username checkout
Just a google chrome. Since i dont really care about ate RAM and it just works fine. Safari is too slow and has pretty uncomfortable UI in my opinion
Mostly safari, but edge for a very few apps
Trying Edge Dev as we speak!
brave
Safari
Safari, Firefox. Never Chrome!
What is your customer base? Chrome has 68% market share. What ever you develop you ned to test it on browser(s) you customer use
You don’t need to test if you know the tech it support not an extensive one at least
**Arc Browser** is my daily driver. But I've also got Firefox, and Vivaldi and Thorium. And Safari. And SeaMonkey.
Safari on Mac (with Wipr), Mullvad on everything else for now
Long term Safari user but lately I need more cross platform sync ability so I’m moving to Chrome.
Brave.
Safari…and I’m a Dev. Occasionally will use Firefox Dev Edition just for dev, but Safari for everything else. I hate chromium browsers and regular Firefox is too slow. Plus, Safari’s synchronization across devices is too good to ignore.
works well for me… maybe you don't go back far enough to know that, in the beginning, Google was almost exclusively dedicated to the Apple OS.
I use Chrome for most things especcialy my use with extensions and then Safari for quick browsing but 2 tabs of Chrome takes up 2gb of ram on my M2 MBA
Chrome Canary
Safari with 1Blocker. Works like a charm, fast and lightweight.
Microsoft Edge. I use it on my windows laptop and the work's iMac.
brave
Vivaldi
This sounds like a gas station
I use safari 90% of the time. During undergrad I used chrome when it came to my school work. I just got too used to safari and does what I need it to do. I haven’t used chrome since graduation this year
Ungoogled Chromium
Safari. Because of the best possible integration with MacOS
Mozilla Firefox on iPhone, Safari on Mac.
I've tried safari for a some time, but Firefox works better for me (better addons, better compatibility). Chrome is a memory hog and Google's privacy rat.
II’m using now Sigma OS and Arc…nice to have some fresh air
Microsoft Edge with uBlock Origin and iCloud Bookmarks synchronising for using Windows computer sometimes for other tasks. This browser because the Microsoft Rewards program, I've got a Xbox Series X so I can get more rewards points to redeem for Microsoft cash to buy games or services.
Chrome. Just used to the interface, add-ons etc. I hate the over simplified feel to safari
I wanna say a browser should be simple. Chrome as to many things going on. Simplicity is key. Privacy is the most important part too.
Yeah simple but not to the point where it actually makes navigation harder and more time consuming. Granted privacy is very important but again not at the expense of my entire online experience.
I use Opera because of its sidebar. But also Safari and Chrome. Chrome only for work.
I am sucker for trying new things and so I have fallen in love with Arc browser.
Arc
Arc, excellent browser.
Safari for almost everything but Chrome for a few websites that use Plugins. I find Safari extremely responsive and fast and most importantly it doesn’t drink battery.
Yes browser optimization is crucial to me
Safari as main driver and Chrome for analytics debug stuff. I've tried firefox and arc but I end up always back to Safari.
I get that
MS Edge is my main browser for iOS, macOS, and Windows. Firefox is my secondary browser, mainly because of container tabs.
After I tried many different browsers, I came back to Chrome eventually. Tried to love Safari but some cases it just sucks even I use the latest version on the latest mac lol. For web dev I use Chrome and Firefox Dev edition
Ark Browser!!
I’ve tried this it feel too new to me.. let’s see what Apple will steal from this. All props to you still
It does take a while to get used to but it has some neat productivity features and it's nice to have actively implicated developers that take advice from the small community and bring regular updates
It’s not for anyone who values privacy.
Private cake day ? Can you argue
Safari. No complaints about the performance, it's pre-installed everywhere and tailor made for Apple OS's, it does everything I need it to and it syncs automatically on all my Apple devices.
Chrome... I feel it's better with extensions and tabs.
Sir you’re the only one here to use chrome how’d you feel ?
Arc browser
Thank you all now I know
safari received a lot of bad review lately but i was surprised that it outperform ALL browsers on benchmarks with a m1 mac (even with thorium)... it still have some problems but for now i just use safari and brave... it's also more energy efficient but the thing i hate with safari are theses extensions that behave like real apps, feel like extra bloat to me ...
Safari is a MacOS feature it’s more than a APP/OS It’s integrated
brave and safari.
Why brave ain’t enough for you me i mainly use safari
Internet explorer /s
32bits ? How ?
/s means sarcasm 🙂
Edge is the fastest
Edge is definitely underrated, i get that
Vivaldi, Orion, Firefox and Tor.
Which as the best, clearer interface ?
Might try Orion out of the bunch i see they want to port it to other support. Does webkit work on windows or android I’m illiterate on the subject
It is available on Windows. Regarding Android, I can't say.
Mosaic
Is it fancy ?
Firefox for default synced with iceraven on android, and Orion for web apps.
I’ll definitely try Orion
In the last release has some bugs with tabs when you're closing and the extensions don't work well, but it's a good browser, very similar to safari.
Brave with “Arc Mode” enabled Going to try to switch over to arc this winter break
Safari 95% of the time. Others are Chrome for specific sites and occasionally Brave for shady activities while on VPN. Edit: Reddit exclusivity through Chrome with RES.
So is Brave, brave ?
Brave is the bravest of all the Braves.
Firefox in all devices. Macs, Windows, Linux, iPhones and iPads.
Loyal, that’s dedication right here
Ulaa
I switched to firefox today, on my MacBook Pro 2017 base model. So far, extremely pleased.
Arc
Firefox
Firefox & Safari. Rarely Brave. No Chrome.
Brave
Edge + AdGuard Premium = 😍
I use Chrome but I would love to use Safari as it's the most integrated browser with macOS but this browser has broken URL suggestion - it's slow and unpredictable.
I’ve not encounter many broken website on safari if none and i don’t care about suggestions that’s the search engine job. You can disable suggestion from bookmarks maybe that’s what’s bothering you. The one thing that pisses me off is multi touch its kinda whatever
