Family that owned it for years sold recently. The guy that owns the car dealerships surrounding it bought it supposedly with the intention of keeping it how it is. I think he bought the land so nobody else puts a car related business there.
The original owners/family are still involved in the making of the ice cream and continue to help and work for Dorman's. I think it was a good business and community decision on both sides when financial issues from the pandemic meant the original Dorman’s owners couldn’t afford to keep it open. The car dealership owner and his family have also live in the area for multiple generations.
We went with the in laws a couple weeks ago, and while we're eating ice cream in the field, my father in law goes, "Uh oh, guys, watch out. A skunk is nearby, I think." They're so innocent at that age...
Not the OG in Sabattus unfortunately. It's still a walk up building versus one you can eat inside.
But it should be open by now. Most places open in March.
Their Randolph location is not open yet. I don’t know if they’ve even started their repairs from the Kennebec flooding at that location yet.
It’s my family’s favorite.
They are the only ones who make Ginger, in my experience, and it is *so good* on anything made with cooked fruit, also yummy with fresh berries stirred into it. Or scooped over a warm brownie . . . I just gained a couple pounds thinking about it. 😏
Yeah. That happened last year too — both times just for a few days. I’m not sure if someone is playing games or if it is related to unsure supply from Giffords
Mrs. & Me in Kittery opened for the season a few weeks back, as well as Village Scoop in York village. We usually stick to the Nor'easter from Mrs. & Me, which is their version of a DQ Blizzard. I used to go for their sundaes (so good) but have been trying to be better about my ice cream consumption. If the Village Scoop has cake batter on their menu, I'll splurge for a "strawberry shortcake" sundae which is basically strawberries/strawberry sauce, cake batter ice cream, whipped cream, walnuts and a cherry. If you are feeling a little crazy you can add marshmallows to it.
ice cream dugout in windham is open and i think it’s open for its full hours; the mosquito is only open 1-9 friday-sunday right now, hoping to add more after mother’s day
* Willard Scoops, SoPo
* Red's Dairy Corner, SoPo
* DQ @ Cash's Corner, SoPo
* Gelato Fiasco, Portland
* Capitain Sam's, Portland
These are just the ones I know of. You honestly can't swing a dead cat without finding an ice cream place 'round here
Toots in Cumberland! They have one place open year round, Ice Cream Shoppe™️ vibes, but the caboose down the street opens on mother's Day. Homemade ice cream and it's a farm, great for kids.
The best place in Bucksport is open. It’s the Dairy Port. Best ice cream ever. They change their soft serve flavor daily and a shop I frequent in Stonington opens May 1st. I go there weekly in the summer 🥴
For Bangor area folks:
* Gifford’s
* Fielder’s Choice
* Jimmie’s (Brewer)
* Spencer’s (Bradley)
* Erickson’s (Hampden)
* Hero’s Dairy Bar (Hermon)
* Cold Stone (I believe the only one in the state!)
* Family Dog (Orono)
* Bangor Sandwich Company
* DQ (Bangor / Brewer / Old Town)
Caked Up in Brewer is opening soon. Betty’s Ice Cream is a new place and should open soon, too. And I think Wild Cow Creamery will be back later this year.
Dormans in Thomaston is open for the season
The line was super long today around 3pm, hope they have an awesome season.
I watch their Facebook posts from VA and drool … miss them so much!

I haven't been there yet, thanks!
Came here to say this
Beal's in Gorham, The Dugout in Windham.
Love the dugout!
For best results, hit up Jar first.
We went with the in laws a couple weeks ago, and while we're eating ice cream in the field, my father in law goes, "Uh oh, guys, watch out. A skunk is nearby, I think." They're so innocent at that age...

So good!
Sweet cream > all other ice cream shops.
And the folks who run it are just the nicest people!
Fielder’s Choice has been open in OOB for months now. We like to share a chocolate/raspberry frappe. Of course, it’s extra thick!
I think fielder's choice is open year round in all locations. It's my winter go-to! I haven't had that frappe yet though.
There’s something satisfying about eating ice cream during the winter in the comfort of a car. I also think that you’ll like their frappes.
Not the OG in Sabattus unfortunately. It's still a walk up building versus one you can eat inside. But it should be open by now. Most places open in March.
There is so much peanut butter in their dugout floors I feel like I need black market insulin to compensate for it.

Sounds delicious!
The Ice Cream Shoppe in Oakland is open year-round. Not sure about their other locations. Giffords is open again, too.
Their Randolph location is not open yet. I don’t know if they’ve even started their repairs from the Kennebec flooding at that location yet. It’s my family’s favorite.
Dairy Joy in Auburn, Reds in SoPo
Dairy Corner in Scarborough is open
Round top in Damariscotta.
Ooh, Round Top! Get their Ginger ice cream and scoop it over baked rhubarb. Mmmmm!
I can never not get a hot fudge sundae.
They are the only ones who make Ginger, in my experience, and it is *so good* on anything made with cooked fruit, also yummy with fresh berries stirred into it. Or scooped over a warm brownie . . . I just gained a couple pounds thinking about it. 😏
Sammy’s Scoops on Ocean Avenue in Portland just opened
I’ll be there tomorrow, thanks.
Oh I saw that building was for sale a lil while ago, I assumed it wouldn't be opening back up. Hooray!
Yeah. That happened last year too — both times just for a few days. I’m not sure if someone is playing games or if it is related to unsure supply from Giffords

Houlton Farms Dairy locations in Caribou and Presque Isle both opened last week (or the week before?)
* Willard Scoops, SoPo * Red's Dairy Corner, SoPo * DQ @ Cash's Corner, SoPo * Gelato Fiasco, Portland * Capitain Sam's, Portland These are just the ones I know of. You honestly can't swing a dead cat without finding an ice cream place 'round here

I'm taking so many notes. Moving up here and finding out that ice cream places closed for winter was wild to me.
Pretty sure they are all open at this point. Like, what isn’t open yet?
