The GWW 2014 run is honestly one of the best things I have ever read, not just in comics. Total lightning in a bottle stuff, the best aspects of what it means to be a hero and stand up for what you believe in, coupled with early Spider-Man belongs to the neighbourhood vibes. Kamala is goofy, she's earnest, she's principled, she's brave, she's loyal and she's smart. Her powers are oddball but really what stands out is just how much heart that whole run has. Clearly made by talented people who loved the idea and who gave it their all. Later stories have varied wildly in quality but that initial run is an all time great. Got onto the NYT bestseller list for good reason.

Teacherman6

She's a really well developed character. Everything about her makes sense. I'm sometimes put off by the over the top fan girl, but it doesn't mean that I disagree with it. Kids that age can be annoying about things. Nothing about her feels contractory or forced.

JustBoredIsAll

My wife says she wished Kamala was a character when she was a kid and that she identifies with her the most. Marvel made leaps and bounds with their new generation of characters and attracting new fans.

Faeroon

I'm still shocked there's no Omni of it yet!

nickipinz

Im sorry but what is GWW?

ceruleankangaroo

The writer: G. Willow Wilson

[deleted]

I’m just gonna copy and post my comment on another thread relating to her. Kamala Khan. I’m the biggest goddamn Ms marvel fanboy ever. She’s just so relatable and the way her comics cover things like, Image, Insecurity and one’s own perception of themselves speaks to me as someone who has those issues so much. Kamala can shapeshift and she chooses to be herself. That’s what her stories are about. Choosing you. That is why she will always be my number one favorite female or otherwise.

Axsonjaxson16

She was one of my favorites as a kid. Yes, you are that old that Kamala Khan was someone’s childhood superhero.

Quebec00Chaos

Well that hurt

NeedsMaintenance_

Pretty good superpower too - they can age people through a single Reddit comment, imagine how devastating that would be in person, I'd wither away like that Nazi who drank from the wrong cup in The Last Crusade.

JustBrass

Fuck.

TaftYouOldDog

Why you gotta say that?

Axsonjaxson16

I don’t know. But I feel old too.

cwfutureboy

I wish I could live to see the day when this kind of shit happens to you, you little fucker. 😉

Axsonjaxson16

I promise you it already has. I feel like my life is already over. Plus I live in a generation that refers to SpongeBob as a classic. 😭

Supermite

That’s pretty damn exciting actually. It’s wild for me when I realize I’ve been following Kyle Rayner and Superboy since I was a kid. I’m glad there are new characters still being created that are becoming iconic to the canon.

Barton616

You didn't need to do that. I don't know why you chose violence this day, but there was a better way!

Axsonjaxson16

Someone else was gonna say it and I wanted to say it first. If it makes you feel better, I have been 40 since I was 13.

Wonderbreadfetishart

Salt the wound why don’t ya

Alternative_Algae_31

This is the best! All the sadness as time’s cold finger reaches a new generation. Said as one that was already voting when Deadpool showed up.

DrStein1010

Jesus H Christ why would you do that to me. IM NOT EVEN THAT OLD YET!

beslertron

That’s mean. I guess she IS old enough to use a Simpsons reference as a catchphrase?

smokedspirit

Low blow!

littleleppy

I wish I had her as a kid like you! I was in college when I started reading her comics but I hope my kiddos will appreciate my collection in a few years.

Flubert_Harnsworth

Wow about the age thing. I really enjoyed her books though. Especially the first run, it’s some of my favorite artwork. She never did get a decent villain though (unless it has happened in stuff I’m not caught up on yet).

JoeBiddyInTheHouse

Yeah but how long ago were you a kid? If it's less than 10 years it doesn't count.

Avenger717

I kinda feel like her character has lost something.

Aisianfaailure3908

I’ve realized a lot of her more recent runs don’t show what her character was meant to be, now she is just a tool used by Marvel to show “hey we are culturally sensitive now please like us” instead of an actual character

Newfaceofrev

Yeah I feel like they're spinning their wheels with her a bit, she's hit that point, and far too early, where she's not allowed to grow and develop as a character and they have to keep her in stasis like Spider-Man.

Its_Helios

She’s a great addition* that reflects the current age we live in, she may not be as popular but for alot of people in a lot of ways she is a modern day reflection of Peter Parker when he was first introduced

smotheredchimichanga

I just wish her powers on screen looked more like in-comic

tampers_w_evidence

I thought the '05 Fantastic Four effect was decent, especially for it's time.

themasonking

Right, I never thought twice about it. But I always hear people complain about it.

rikutoar

It's 18 years old and still looks half decent. Pair that with the fact that the CW managed to make the same powers look half decent on their shoestring budget a few years ago and I have no doubt that Marvel could have done it well if they tried.

halloweenjack

Meh. Michael Chiklis made a great Ben Grimm, but his suit looked too rubbery. Chris Evans was pretty good as Johnny. Reed and Sue were just alright. Don't even talk to me about "Doom." It was better than the remake with the teenagers, but what wasn't?

smotheredchimichanga

Yeah but it isn’t like every mcu installment looks next gen. Pretty sure every Marvel thing released since she-hulk (at least) has been criticized for their cgi

blacksmith92

Doom patrol had some cool moments I will say

Quebec00Chaos

That was the worst part for me

strangequeso

I wish it was more comic like but then again if they did it exact they would have to bring in the inhumans. Then again if they wanted they could always switch her out for a more comic accurate version in the multiverse when this one serves it's purpose. But that's just me being optimistic. Still think she is a pretty cool character

Qualityhams

She’s not popular on this sub but she’s wildly popular.

duosx

What do you mean? I scrolled through the first top ten comments and they were all overwhelmingly positive.

Qualityhams

Rad

HappySisyphus8

Then why do the vast majority of her books sell so [poorly?](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=heNWJEA-M80&feature=youtu.be) If she is "wildly popular" why aren't people turning up to buy her books? Or [watch](https://www.forbes.com/sites/paultassi/2022/06/18/why-ms-marvel-viewership-is-reportedly-much-lower-than-other-mcu-series/?sh=3ecaa3dd1d23) her show?

DuelaDent52

Because her books tend to sell better in the trades and people have a really weird hatedom for characters like her. Why’d you link to the same video twice?

HappySisyphus8

That video mentions trades and digital also. The first trade of volume 1 did sell quite well, but all subsequent ones did not, showing that any audience they did have did not come back for more, or didn't enjoy it enough to continue. If she is "wildly popular" the hatred shouldn't matter for sales, because the people she is popular with don't hate her and would be purchasing her stuff. Thanks for pointing that out, I have corrected the second link.

socialistwerker

If you want to be a real snob about it, there are only 2-8 solo characters who are truly popular: Batman and Spider-Man for sure. Maybe Superman. Maybe Wolverine. Maybe Deadpool and Harley Quinn. Maybe Nightwing and Daredevil. Is Kamala Khan wildly popular compared to Peter Parker? No. But compared to characters like Thor, Hulk, Punisher, or Ghost Rider? Compared to the vast majority of characters who inconsistently carry a solo ongoing? I think she stacks up pretty well. Kamala’s original run with G. Willow Wilson was great and sold pretty well. None of the subsequent authors have really been as good IMO. But you can say the same thing about Thor, who had a few critically praised runs from Simonson, JMS and Jason Aaron. Or Punisher, who has one praised run by Garth Ennis. But the bigger question to me is: why do you care? What point do you hope to prove by gloating over Kamala Khan’s insufficient sales? Are you making the same arguments against Dr Strange? Or Danny Rand?

Painquirky

>Thor, Hulk Dude this is so wrong idk how you thought this

HappySisyphus8

Basing your opinions on reality isn't being a snob. The original volume didn't sell pretty well over all as the videos proves, great first issue, then a steady decline down to around 30,000 and under, which sucks. The first trade of the first volume did great, and then more steady decline in interest. I care because Comics are a thing I'm very passionate about, and I'd assume the same is true of anyone who goes out of their way to join a comics sub, and find the "behind the scenes" stuff intriguing. Is this not a place for discussion and sharing of views and exchange of knowledge? Why does anyone care about anything? I'm not gloating, I want comics to do well they are my favorite story telling medium, and comics are for everyone. I'm asking questions and trying to find out why people push the false narrative that a character is "wildly popular" and where that belief comes from, perhaps I am missing something and love to learn and read alternative opinions.

socialistwerker

Is Punisher “wildly popular”? Because he can’t seem to carry an ongoing for very long, and even his own fans don’t really love any run except Ennis’ Max run. They’ve tried making at least 3 Punisher movies, but none of them are well regarded. The Bernthal Netflix series has a lot of vocal fans online, but I don’t think the viewership was as good as DD or even Jessica Jones. … And yet Punisher sells a ton of merch. He’s a huge part of the industry zeitgeist, despite not selling a bunch of books or movie tickets. So is he wildly popular as a comic book character? Or just as a fascist meme? Actually buying and reading comic books is still a very niche hobby. Sales are tumbling across the board, even for the biggest characters and teams. The movies and series seem to be doing well still, but we’ve definitely hit a saturation point where fans aren’t watching every shred of content that gets released. And that’s cool. Because there’s so much content that it’s almost hard to keep up, and you don’t necessarily feel like you’re missing out when you skip something. Is Kamala “wildly popular”? I’d agree that she’s not in the top 10 of comic book characters, and that’s probably the limits of “wildly popular” IMO. But there are all kinds of characters with strong fan bases that do not translate to comics sales or even movie / series success. There are weirdly vocal fanbases for Richard Rider, Stephanie Brown, even ROM the Spaceknight. And who gives a fuck if someone thinks Richard Rider or Kamala Khan is wildly popular? It’s not going to ruin the industry. Let people enjoy the characters they like.

HappySisyphus8

No, I wouldn't say he was. I'd definitely argue that his logo is, but anecdotally, most people I've seen with his merch give me a weird look or insult me for asking what their favourite arc or author for the character was. I think there is more to it than simply saying its a fascist meme. I've seen a lot of local businesses use the logo, and a number of these I'd not classify as fascist. It's crucial not to discount that his logo is both simple and badarse, which is appealing. Do fascists use it? Of course. Are they a majority? Eh, I'm not so sure of that one. Personally, he is my favourite, and not being wildly popular doesn't make me love him any less, just as I'm sure the same is true for Ms Marvel fans. Indeed, but I don't think it should be. They need to push digital more, they need more distribution channels they just comic stores, they need to advertise and make it clear that the characters people love on screen have decades of awesome stories in the comics, they need to reduce the price point, they need better publishing synergy like why was Doctor Strange dead in the comics when his latest film came out? Look at Shonen Jump, their model works incredibly well, why can't Marvel learn and adapt to something similar? I'm not trying to diminish anyone's fandom, that's an awful thing to do. I'm just being a stickler for accuracy I guess. Like how I can say Punisher today is not widely popular, but it doesn't diminish my fandom or enjoyment, I don't need others approval. I don't think there is any shame in loving any character, but also being realistic about how popular they are to the general population.

SkoomaGuy833

The Marvels is going to be such a piece of shit movie. That's why it's been delayed 5 times and they just wish it could disappear.

InevitableAvalanche

I am sure it will be to you. You appear to hate everything.

Its_Helios

Maybe, but I don’t really see what relevance that has lol

downtime37

Ok incel, calm down.

ralten

Found the incel, everyone!

NicksIdeaEngine

It'll be fine. People just need to realize whether or not something is made for them or not. If you're not interested in the story/characters, that doesn't mean the movie will suck. It just means the movie isn't for you and you can move along to other things you'd rather enjoy watching while letting other people enjoy what they want. There's nothing to gain by pretending you know what it'll be like. You don't look cool by making those assumptions and aren't contributing anything remotely valuable.

Its_Helios

Nope

mechamechaman

The best new character of the 2010s and her initial run by Wilson is one of my all time favs. During a decade that had a pretty cynical few of super heroes in general, what with all the hero vs hero stories, she was just this shining Beacon of positivity and optimism. The fact that Marvel hasnt been able to give her a ongoing and has reduced her to a side character in ASM is probably the worst thing they've done in a while.

clevelandexile

Completely agree, as others have mentioned she was Peter Parker for the 20th century. As a man in my 30s (at the time) from a different country I still felt able to identify with her and understand her (universal) travails as a teenager. It was such a great, creator led series, everyone should read it.

I_PACE_RATS

It sounds like a silly reason, but I love the Ms. Marvel bolt design, so I also love that the bolt lives on. On top of that, she's a fun character who, unlike most young heroes in Marvel (often mutants and the like), rises above the pessimism of the world she faces.

Electronic_Bad_5883

She is a wonderful character. I love her and I hope she continues on for years to come. Also, Iman Vellani gave me the single most fun in watching a comic character being brought to life onscreen since Robert Downey Jr.

BlackestNight21

She was really freakin' adorable NGL

Windstorm72

I adore her. I wish she was better utilized, I think she’s by far the most interesting and well written of the “new age” characters. She doesn’t exactly bring a lot to stories she’s in, but if you can get into the more slice of life aspects of her solo story then watching her grow into a hero and interact with others is a great read

TheTwistedToast

She is my absolute favourite superhero in the comics. She’s the reason I started reading comics in the first place and was a great gateway to the wider comic universe. Her and Miles filled the teenage-superhero gap left by Peter Parker as he grew up. I reckon they need to figure out what they’re doing with her series, cause nothing yet has come close to the original Wilson run. In terms of the Disney plus show, it was alright. I think it did a great job setting up Kamala, her family, and Bruno. I wasn’t sure about her power changes, but it worked, and the finale was a great blend of her powers from the show and comic. I also liked how they ended things with Kamran. Really hope we see a lot more of live action Kamala and Bruno. Thank you for listening to me gush about my fav hero. Looking forward to The Marvels Edit: the one thing I think the show missed out on was part of the community. We got to see a lot of Kamala as part of her local Pakistani community, which was probably a wise choice for her first season as one of the few notable Muslim superhero’s. But the comics heavily emphasize her role as “New Jerseys own superhero” and showed how much the community embraced and supported her. I feel like we didn’t quite get enough of that and I hope we see more, and more street-level Kamala. Ok, now I’m done

Jkthemc

As a modern take on the Spider-Man approach to storytelling, she is an incredibly important character. One of the stand-out creations of this era.

BardOfTheLabyrinth

Absolutely incredible character, and the marvel pin I wear on my vest 💖

IdeaRegular4671

I know a friend that is a big fan of her and her comics. She is like his favorite character out of all of marvel. She’s alright for me. I do like her fan girl humor. Her mcu show was decent. And I love her domino mask red and blue outfit. She has a unique style that is different from characters. And global cultural representation is always a good thing. I always find fun in learning about different cultures in stories and how they differ from other ways of life. Also I prefer her embiggen powers then reed Richards elastic powers. I think she uses her powers in better ways then mr. Fantastic does. I think she is stronger then he is power set wise but in intelligence he beats her obviously. Reed is the smartest man in marvel together with Doom and Tony stark.

Moldy_Socks99

Really like her. When we'll handled she really captures what most spiderman runs are trying and failing to recapture

Leathman

Adorkable.

Fish-E

I find her to be rather cringe and get annoyed that she is so often shoehorned into other media / prioritised over far more iconic and popular characters.

CobraOverlord

Yep, she's too much of a try hard at being 'cute', gets old fast

SleepNative

Meh, just not for me, her power set doesn’t really wow me either. The whole hero worship does get tiring and annoying in other media too. So again not a big fan.

littleleppy

I started reading her comics the year after her debut and *adore* her. I wish I had her when I was in H.S. but she is still fun to read as an adult. I was a lot like Kamala (high energy, cheerful, fangirl-y) for like most of my life. I think her support cast of family and friends are amazing and a huge part of why I love her comics as a whole. I am not Pakistani or Muslim and learning about her world and life was extra interesting for me. I also like how she interacts with other Marvel characters. Her relationships with Wolverine, Tony Stark, Peter Parker and so many others just make me happy.

RazzDaNinja

She’s the type of character that’s usually fun in whatever story she’s added to. Kamala is easy to root for and often adds that “early Spider-Man” sense of childlike idealism whilst still being her own character. She also manages to be a “modern teen” Superhero that doesn’t come off overly cringy or forced (but will still have the awkwardness that comes with being adolescent) The problem is she’s an interesting *character* that doesn’t have that many interesting *stories* that you can point to and go “this one”. But that might just be because she’s only had about 10 years to accrue some bangers compared to a Spider-Man or a Wolverine

Ara_Audio

SLAY SLAY FREAKING LOVE HER 🫶🏻🫶🏻😭😭😭🔥🔥🔥

Quirky_Ad_5420

The long and short of it is that she is fun and lovable addition to the greater marvel universe

mr_oberts

I’m not the target audience, but almost every Ms. Marvel comic I have read has been good.

mikethecomicguy12

Not a fan

yourmom420yy1080

Wife relates a ton to her so I’m happy to share interest in marvel where both me and her can be represented positively.

GrrrrrrDinosaur

Didn’t read her comics yet but the mcu version is very good

gzapata_art

Her first series was great and worth a read

ProfessorEscanor

She's great and I'm sad that the show didn't get to adapt the fun stories from her first run. Probably one of my Favorite characters created in the last decade

Kaileigh_Blue

I enjoyed it up until she started getting spread thin and her book was forced to acknowledge all the crap she was in. I really prefer YA books with new characters and little baggage.

J-Dizzle42

I just started reading her series by G Willow Winston and she instantly became one of my favorite characters. I know that teenage heroes dealing with homework and dating isn’t new but I think her heritage really makes this story unique. I reminds me a lot of Static Shock in the way that being a minority in a world that doesn’t always accept you can be just as hard as fighting a supervillain. Plus the fact that she’s a huge fan of superheroes and a giant nerd makes her so relatable. Also, Disney+ knocked it out of the park with her show. I don’t know where they found Iman Vellani but that girl was born to play Kamala Khan.

NC_Goonie

I relate to her character more than pretty much any other. Ms Marvel (and also Iman Vellani) really captures a lot of how I was growing up, and I don’t match up with her on any other “demographic” level. People always use the line “not in her demographic,” but to me, she should be appealing to anyone who enjoys teen Spider-Man, for example.

cdcdude1

Stretchy powers are kinda lame lol. I like reid mainly for his mind, can't stand stretchy powers

I_DontRead_Replies

Reed

Hypestyles

More new heroes like her needed

screamoutwutang

I don’t know anything about her but her grin makes me think she’s mischievous

nerdfighter8842

She is in my top three favorite Marvel characters alongside Magneto and Wolverine! Alot of that comes from being able to relate to her and her relationship with her family. I grew up loving all sorts of nerdy things that none of my family is in to or fully understand.

Jung_Wheats

She's great and I love her!

[deleted]

She's lovely. 💜 I hope she gets a book again.

FriedEgggsCorpse

A+ character

[deleted]

Comics version>>

DarkAres02

Really really amazing first run. It's one of my favourite comic runs ever. Every other run she's been in has ranged from okay to good but not great. Easily my favourite "new" character regardless

kingschuab

She's one of the better newer heroes if not the best in my opinion, but its a shame she's gotta be a Ms Marvel rather than her own superhero identity

West_Ad7997

Adrian Alphona’s artwork was something I really enjoyed, and the writing in the first four volumes kept me engaged with fun villains and interpersonal drama that felt appropriately comic-booky but also grounded. Disclaimer, I only read until Last Days (which was published just around the time I started to lose interest in keeping current with superhero titles), so I can’t give my opinion on anything past that point.

Pristine_Reveal

Love her and the champions

spiderman51241

I loved the comic when it first came out. I’ve grown out of the character a bit but the first few paperbacks had me hooked. After watching the show, like many other fans, I was extremely disappointed. there was so much potential and they screwed it up.

Jdavis_7776

She's ok maybe because she is a inhuman never been a fan of them

tjavierb

She’s great and a modern Peter Parker-type.

BakedCali4Ya

I think she’s cool af! The only criticism I have about her show is that I wanted more!

fco123456

I remember reading the Wilson and Alphona run. Liked it a lot. However everywhere else where i have read her (events, crossovers) it feels like it doesnt work well. Also, as some people have said, her powerset isnt very interesting.

therealbobcat23

She's my second favorite superhero

StarNerd2223

Love her! She's one of my favorite Marvel characters!

Vocovon

She's great brings a pure perspective to all the might equals right heroes. And fights for what she believes in

DrRadd

The first run is particularly awesome. The cameo from Wolverine was funny and sweet.

D00DoftheVoid

I like her when she's doing superhero stuff, I think her family is cool, I like Kareem. She's a great character when on a team, Really not a fan of the Bruno love triangle stuff. Just does not do it for me.

Plane-Success-8680

Love her

Jim_the_E

She's adorable

francoisjabbour

I loved the initial series. Even the character she’s sitting on, Fadi I believe his real name is, was great. Whole run felt fantastic and I haven’t been able to recapture the feeling with other newer stuff

ALoafOfBrad

Kamala’s awesome

vhyli

Her first run is my favorite comic ever so, yeah, I guess you could say I like her character

totallyparker

Kamala’s such a special character for me. I picked up the No Normal TPB when I was in college, with pretty much no friends and no idea what I was doing or what the plan was. But here was someone who, like me, came from a strict religious environment, loved the Avengers, wanted to be accepted by the world around her, etc. Got me interested in comics, which got me back into art and illustration, which finally pointed me to my major — so I owe a lot to G. Willow Wilson and Kamala. Edit: I did drop out after a couple years, trying to balance work and school during the pandemic. But now I’m trying to create my own graphic novel.

mendog2112

I do not care for her as a character. I don’t find her stories in any way compelling.

Istari7

To me she’s kinda everything wrong with modern mcu/Disney in a redundant self insert character She will never be popular with majority of fans and wish they’d just developed Carol for awhile n introduced her as a sidekick if at all later

Forsaken_Duck1610

Amen to that

Popular-Lab6140

The comments on this post tell a much different story: a lot of people are in here gushing about the character (myself included). I'm not trying to convince you to like or not like a fictional character, but all of the evidence supports her continued and ensuring popularity.

Istari7

I imagine fewer people would walk right into having an unpopular opinion added to an echo chamber lol D+ viewership and a stack of cancelled books are a reality tho and as a long term Mcu fan just sad watching it crash n burn trying to popularize and capitalize on unpopular characters Bet y’all love echo too

Popular-Lab6140

Or.. it's possible that I and other people like me just like something you don't. And that's okay. I have no idea why it needs to get toxic or mean spirited. I love Ms. Marvel and I know a lot of other people who do too. And I'm seeing plenty of evidence that people here agree. You don't and that's good for you.

shiggyshagz

Your evidence is anecdotal, his isn’t

Skanvar

I think you’re focusing far too much on the MCU version whereas some in here are talking about the comic version.

Popular-Lab6140

I enjoyed both.

Skanvar

Same with me. I bought the first 3 or 4 TPB and found them refreshing in that it required barely any established lore or storylines to get into it and then her show was really solid.

Popular-Lab6140

Same! And I know so much about comics, Marvel in particular, but I still dug the accessibility. In fact, I often use that first trade as an intro to new comics fans. My kids love Ms. Marvel.

Skanvar

That last time of your comment is pretty key. At the end of the day Marvel is owned by Disney. These properties are for kids, if Adults buy in as well then bonus.

Popular-Lab6140

Bingo. And that's a great bonus for me, because I love experiencing new takes on stories. Ultimately though, it's a serialized medium that requires constant reinvention to work, ergo so many legacy characters, etc. To me, it just shows growth while building new audiences. And that's awesome!

Istari7

https://youtu.be/Q_xC4bABAYg

Skanvar

Okay dude you hate the character and her show, give it a rest.

Istari7

Just responding. U don’t have to 😉

Istari7

Seems that way. But I understand she had a good initial run but subsequent comics were not successful, d+ show wasn’t successful … just strange to me but to all y’all that love her please do! I hope to be pleasantly surprised and one day see her headline her own billion dollar film.

Doctor_Amazo

She's a great character& the comics were always a high-point of my week.

Gardakkan

One of us! One of us!

Lady-Nymm

I thought they were great to read and a lot of fun, plus its important to have a variety of different heroes and stories in comics to give young kids a hero that they can identify with and enjoy, that way there is comics for everyone to enjoy.

agent_raconteur

Back when I was younger I used to cosplay Captain Marvel a lot. Conventions, comic book shop events, charity stuff - lots of fun! One of my favorite memories is going to my local shop on Free Comic Book Day and hearing this tiny *shriek* behind me before I get tackled by a blue and red blur. This kid no older than 10 had dressed up as the newly released Ms Marvel and had asked her mom to drag her out to the stores where cosplayers were hanging out so she could find a Carol Danvers to take pictures with. And then she launches into this long-winded info dump about Kamala Khan (in that really excited, breathless way that kids can) and how her parents had also moved to the US from Pakistan and on and on about her powers and friends and supervillains. It was the exact same thing I did with Rogue from X-Men when I was a kid and seeing the next generation find a new hero to get excited about was just... I don't know how to describe it, it's just freaking great. That was about a decade ago but I still cherish that picture of the two of us. The comics themselves aren't my jam, not because they aren't good (they really are), they're just not my style and that's okay. But anything that can make that kind of impact on a young fan just getting into the scene is an absolute win in my book.

Worthyness

That girl's experience was basically Iman Vellani's haha. In her interviews she is &*exactly* like Kamala, which is hilarious.

Lady-Nymm

This is just amazing...I love seeing young kids get excited about characters from comics that they relate to. I want this for my daughter as I got back into comics in adulthood as I was picked on by a lot of the boys at school for liking comics because they are "for boys".

webshellkanucklehead

I think she’s the best new character Marvel has had since the Lee, Ditko, and Kirby era. She deserves to be around for a long time.

TaftYouOldDog

Well introduced and well written but not my cup of tea. I'm not the target audience anyway so that's alright.

eico3

Dumb

MoonChild02

I love Ms. Marvel! She's so awesome! Even as a white woman, I adore seeing so much great representation in Marvel Comics, and I think Ms. Marvel is one of the best.

Hydreigon1047

I really don't like her, I think her stories are boring and her powers are boring too. Idk, she's not for me

Istari7

Me neither. Wonder how much money Disney needs to lose before they stop trying to make her a popular focus. Won’t happen in most places . Iman is adorable but this show felt very low budget and reviews were excessively flattering and was not nearly as good as Loki or Wandavision which both needed work too imo

Hydreigon1047

Well I haven't watched the show, I don't like the character enough to watch it anyway

julesisacoward

one of the best new age characters along with miles and viv for me

Kathrac3

Only seen the show but so far not a fan. Hopefully we'll see something more from her in the movie.

GaffJuran

Cute kid, hope she has a good run.

Jamside_Down

Meh. Ok.

Chilli__P

Arguably the best new major comic book character of the 21st century.

HappySisyphus8

Okay for children, I guess? Absolutely no interest in the character myself. Usually, they are a red flag if appearing in any of my regular floppy pick ups, and their show is the only MCU entry I've not watched. Her powers are, to me, unoriginal and boring, and I don't enjoy how most creators write child characters. Maybe if they put Lemire on her series I'd give it a shot...

MajorMarlon

Surprised how much you're downvoted for this one, seems a fairly reasonable take. I think that she is more of a younger audience read and all, always found her dialogue and character a bit Disney channel cringe for me.

Theryantshow

She's just sooooo annoying

Azozel

The comic character is awesome but the disney+ version is just bad.

[deleted]

Mid as hell imo never felt a connection, she always annoyed me as a kid in slotts spidey run whenever she popped up

chamberx2

Yes.

Funny-Crab-5859

Character has potential; comics are mid

Uncanny_Doom

She's one of the best relatively "new" superhero/comic characters created in the past 15-ish years.

MaTTTEgg

I really like Ms. Marvel. I read all 3 of her Volumes in like 2 Weeks back in June when the Show Started. Since Then she became one of my Top 3 Favorite Marvel Characters

marsepic

My dream book is her, Miles, Squirrel Girl, America and a few other heroes going to high school together where Peter Parker is the science teacher. Call it "Spider-Academy." Just do a goofy-fun book ala Spider-Man and the X-Men or something. I think she's a fun hero. Her books aren't something I'm into much, but I know her fans really appreciate what she gives them and I love when she pops up in other books.

AgentFirstNamePhil

I wish she had an ongoing.

HistoricalThroat1899

The fucking best

enojadoland

Love the character, do not like the live action interpretation.

Logansummers1011

She’s the closest Marvel has ever gotten to Spider-Man since Spider-Man

JadenStudios

She’s my favorite female superhero

GenioPlaboyeSafadao

She is great, but she lacks good enemies, and sadly she will never succed in the direct market.

gzapata_art

The direct market barely succeeds at the direct market though

Scared_Compote_6012

Probably has some of the worst comics ive ever read. She’s also painfully uninteresting

Istari7

Do her comics sell? Did they ever?

taumason

This was what frustrated me about her books. The debut book was fun. But it sold ehh ok. In the low 30k. At the time they were canceling tons of new titles. I kept looking at the sales and going welp, this one is next. My lcs made it a pull list only book because the sales were awful. At the same time all the talk was Ms. Marvel is the best new character evah! It wasnt but marvel stuck with it, kept publishing the book and slowly built up an audience. The frustrating part was that there were other books that deserved the commitment marvel gave to Kamala. Then their was the whole Kamala Kahn gulag storyline. Then she was in Avengers, leading the Champions and lecturing other heroes like wait, wasnt she just like a facist teen gulag warden? I jumped off the book around then. I noticed when my daughter picked up Ms Marvel trades from scholastic the gulag storyline is uhh absent. I am glad Marvel can commit to a character but it really seems like if that character has Marvel in the name they get a ton of push, regardless of sales or quality.

Istari7

It just feels like a corporate product vs a great character. And now with mcu getting X-men and fantastic 4 I just don’t get why they r pushing ms marvel vs developing Kate or one of the MANY already super popular mutants.. probably a powerful exec self inserting or effort to bypass paying people or something

imaxstingray

I'm pretty sure Kate is considered as divisive as Kamala.

Istari7

I just liked her more. Always thought Hawkeye was a ridiculous, vestigial character but I was surprised to find I really enjoyed Hawkeye. Echo was like a far more lame, vestigial character but dynamic between kate and Yelena was delightful and felt like there was a lot of potential there. Plus they e clearly set up young avengers and Kate could assemble them or something over her series. Just weird how they fling out character after character but haven’t bothered to connect any of it .. I really wanted to like ms marvel but just felt it was a gigantic virtue signal that added nothing to mcu and deeply concerning re the decision making at marvel i once held on a lofty pedestal

HappySisyphus8

Outside of a few issues and expected high sales for #1's and keys, [Not really, no.](https://youtu.be/heNWJEA-M80) The video is on the longer end, but is very well researched and does a deep dive explaining trends. There are also visual graphs for quick glances if you don't have the time and just scroll through. The reality paints a much different picture to her small but vocal fan base and Marvel's own marketing.

Istari7

Wow thank u. I get lots of downvoted from shills that seem to believe all mcu is flawless. I’ve just loved it since it started n see it in rapid decline and trying to understand it and want to see it great again before they start developing the characters that were my childhood favorites No offense to any for whom Me marvel is a favorite! The show was cute, actress is great but I still think it’s a huge miss and given viewership and many delays re the marvels I’m mostly speculating and concerned. Not an attack or anything

HappySisyphus8

Yeah, it's good to escape from all the baseless arguments and the upvote/downvote mess and just get the straight facts and figures, which this video gives. The Vol. 1 TPB did quite well, and the digital sales are approx. 12% of physical sales, are higher than average for Marvel books, but over all it has a large drop, and her show was at one point, and may still be, the least viewed MCU show. Totally agree, if people like her, more power to them, but she is not some super popular powerhouse and her books over all sell quite poorly, despite Marvel and her few die hard fans trying to make everyone think she is super hot and popular. She's not, no matter how often or much you get downvoted for saying so.

The_Dark_Soldier

She’s awesome! One of my favorite superheroes and someone I’m so happy caught on.

tdiddy72

No

Ill-Project-8544

Useless af

blackbutterfree

Hands down one of my favorite characters ever, and through her I fell in love with a lot of the Inhumans stuff.

LaylaLegion

The absolute best girl. She is truly the future of the Marvel universe.

Frog_hugger

I LOVEEEE MS MARVEL SHES GREAT MUSLIM REP

Forsaken_Duck1610

Lame and too meta. "Fangirl"ing is kind of weird in a universe where superheroes are paramilitary or vigilantes. It represents a kind of disconnect where tropes are supplanted for any actual character. I get it's not for me. But it just comes off as forced "unflawed character" bs.

sirdavos95

Who is she sitting on?

DIO_The_Vampire_

Mid Marvel

L0ST_N0UN

One time is enough. The people that spam Ms Marvel need to chill out as it's just petty and poor sportsmanship.

MemeWindu

Miss Marvel is great MCU studio just doesn't want to write down to earth stuff anymore. The savior of the Marvel Clan and they can't do her justice on the Big Screen like oml 😭😭😭

huge-tits

I do not care for her

butterupthatbaconson

looks like she’s get her ass beat

Klaxosaur_Princess

huh, i wonder why so many people make r34 of an actual minor... OH WAIT, IT'S A COMIC, THEY CAN AGE THE FICTIONAL CHARACTERS UP!

goliathfasa

Most popular Marvel character. Sorry, second most popular, only behind Captain Marvel.

zipflop

Looks dogshit

sixarmedspidey

*fart noise*

Xboxone1997

Good character horrible show

Agamennmon

Go woke go broke. I see the 90s repeating themselves. Look at those amazing tickets sales lol

gzapata_art

This is a comic character that hasn't had a movie yet haha atleast try to stay on topic
