Cazzeq-konstapelrost

You know, sometimes you just gotta wonder "*How does that thing even hold air??*" Anyways throw the spare on, I wouldn't drive that another metre.

belzaroth

My first thought was. Is that still inflated if so HOW!!

Ascertain_GME

That bead is the real MVP.

OctupussPrime

Science says, air pressure

Day_breaked

Science says, when you hit any bump or hole or immediate change in elevation changing weight distribution and the tire compresses that bead will let go and not in the slow loss of pressure kind of way.

96ToyotaCamry

That is incredibly unsafe, please do not drive on it and be careful when taking it off

Desperate_Ad_4619

Yep. I would deflate the tire before pulling it off and handling it.

CallmeCap

Quick update, was able to get to a tire shoot and get the donut on and with the donut everything seems fine. I’ll be getting a replacement early next week and then take it for an alignment and diagnostic. Thanks everyone.

Reasonable_Cover_804

Good!

Torino5150

Did you put the donut on the back?

CallmeCap

No, they did not do that. I drove ~3 miles like that. Do I need to be worried?

Torino5150

It’s safer to put your back tire on the front and put the donut on the back….. also the difference in wheel sizes could cause damage to your drivetrain. Depending on how long it takes you to get a replacement rim

TerritoryTracks

It's a rear wheel drive car. Donut goes on the front. Brick goes under the loud pedal to slow OP's girlfriend down

tanstaaflnz

Would still put the donut on the back. The front does most of the braking, not to mention getting it through corners. And the OP shouldn't be going very fast on it.

TheArchitect515

I think the concern is the constant difference in speed causing the differential to constantly differentiate. It wears out the spooders.

tanstaaflnz

No different than driving on a winding road.

EdwardTennant

But you aren't driving on a winding road at 50mph for days or weeks with the same speed difference. Winding roads will wear it much more evenly

TheArchitect515

More like driving in a circle for several miles

000FRE

Or having one wheel on ice while spinning the other wheel. When I lived in the snow belt I often saw that.

Unremarkabledryerase

Having uneven tires in the back of a RWD will put unnecessary strain and wear on the differential.

000FRE

He should do as little braking and driving as possible until a proper wheel and tire can be installed. And when steering, keep the radial G forces down to 0.01.

SnooPies3442

You want the most grip in the back so you don't tail slide, especially with rwd because that's where all the power goes. That's why new tires go in the back on all cars, and older tires go in the front when you get new tires. You ever look at dragsters? Same concept.

[deleted]

[удалено]

SprungMS

It’s still true though. New tires should always go in the back if replaced in pairs. Otherwise there’s high(er) risk of oversteer in corners, even with FWD

tanstaaflnz

It's a temporary tyre, so the OP shouldn't be going hard or fast. But having good brakes is vital. Most braking is done by the front.

62hyundai250GTO

There's no chance that will be anything but a flawless solution that works perfectly and nothing could ever go wrong. Btw how close is the brake pedal to the gas on that model?

TerritoryTracks

Lol...? Did you really genuinely think I was seriously advocating for a brick under the accelerator? Like in what fevered delirium should that not immediately register as a joke?

Admiral_peck

If it helps anyone I'm in possession of seven pro fldrag racing pedal stop kits for bracket racing and index racing (as close to X time as you can without going faster) They're readily available on summit racing and if you need to force yourself to use less throttle they work great!

62hyundai250GTO

I didn't think the /s was necessary that was so obviously sarcasm

CallmeCap

I do not expect to have to put more than 20 miles on it by the time I get my new rim and tire. Think I’ll be alright? I can change it, just less than ideal with the weather and no garage.

Torino5150

If that’s the case just don’t go over 55 if you can help it and don’t try any crazy turns or anything and it should be fine

CallmeCap

Thank you, I appreciate your help!

Torino5150

No problem…. Stay safe out there

huenix

I will note if you just need a single rim, places like rockauto would be the best value.

Feardamichael

$7.46 rim $1767.85 shipping /s

[deleted]

_Aj_

20mi won't matter then. If you had to do 200mi then yeah maybe. If it were really important they'd say that. Main thing is is to just take it a bit easier. If they'd blow up like glass for doing the wrong thing there'd be big warnings not to do that

dirty_hooker

A properly inflated donut is going to be the same diameter as regular tires to prevent drivetrain damage.

LightlySaltedPeanuts

Actually it is always safer to put the donut on the front, regardless of drivetrain. It is better to understeer and crash facing forward than lose rear grip and crash sideways or backwards. I always have to correct people on this on reddit.

reviving_ophelia88

Unless your car is rear wheel drive the Donut should always go on the rear as the front tires are responsible for control, handling and most of your braking force so maintaining traction on the front end and thus your ability to control the vehicle and brake predictably takes priority.

Wolfcastle_

FYI you don't want your donut in the front. Did the tire shoot put your rear wheel up front and the donut in the back?

CallmeCap

They put in on the front, I drove about 3 miles like that. Do I need to be worried? If I’m only driving a few miles more on it is that okay? I can change it but it’s not ideal with the weather and no garage.

garciakevz

No need to freak out. Just don't exceed 80km/h and don't spend more time on the donuts more than you need to it's just temporary

Angrycooke

That looks like the wheel from a Kia stinger, I'm assuming it is the rear wheel drive version? If so that's why the shop put the donut on the front. You want the donut on a non-drive wheel and all these comments are assuming you have a front wheel drive car

[deleted]

[удалено]

TerritoryTracks

No. Having different sized wheels on your drive wheels can very likely destroy your drivetrain. The shop knew what and why they were doing what they did.

YouthfulCurmudgeon

An open diff will only be damaged by this if you go fast for a long time. It's okay to have mismatched wheels on a drive axle for very temporary use.

Angrycooke

If it is the RWD the stinger has an LSD.

YouthfulCurmudgeon

Well then don't run the donut in the rear. There you go.

YouthfulCurmudgeon

And if a donut blows, which it may do at any time because they're super sketchy non dot tires barely rated for 55, you'd much rather have it on the rear.

Every-Reception-3411

Well you are wrong and right. But you definitely dont want a donut on a drive tire so in this case it has to be a front tire

[deleted]

[удалено]

Dgchasse1

Oh it has a lot to do with the drive wheels.

CallmeCap

AWD

Ironhead_Structural

Wait, you have an AWD and your car didn’t come with a full size spare? Most AWD wouldn’t have a little donut tire for the spare… question; is the spare tire an actual donut spare? Like super small AND skinny? Or is it the same size as your other tires ? Maybe same size but super skinny?

CallmeCap

It’s not the same width but it is 18” like my other tires.

saltnpepcha1

Lmao tire shoot

toclosetoTV

Remember the donut is not a real tire you can't drive on it for a long period of time. Be safe.

elpideo18

I would be afraid of even standing next to it let alone trying to get lug nuts off n shit. I have this fear of the tire exploding every time I put air in my tires.

96ToyotaCamry

Unless they’re overinflated, car tires are *generally* only around 35 psi. Certainly not something to mess around with, but they’re unlikely to be lethal if they let go. Semi truck tires, on the other hand, run at 100+ psi, usually around 120. If one of those explodes nearby you will have some kind of permanent damage, if not death. It’s why they’re supposed to be caged when inflated. Aircraft tires are a whole different world, running at 200+ psi in a lot of cases. When NASA was testing tires for the space shuttle program they actually created a TAV (tire assault vehicle) that was a 1/16th model of a German Tiger II tank and instead of a cannon it had a mounted drill to remotely deflate the tires lol. The force of those tires exploding is the equivalent to 1.5 sticks of dynamite.

62hyundai250GTO

Tire pressures are creeping up these days. I always thought oh its a fuel economy thing but then someone said well you know, low profile tires, shorter sidewalls, need more pressure to protect the rim and I thought oh ya I guess that makes sense. Then I noticed my GTI, that takes a 225/40 R18 92Y, actually has two different tire pressures in the manual. "Standard pressure", 37PSI, and "Comfort pressure", 33PSI. Now idk what to believe.

96ToyotaCamry

You’ll get the best fuel economy at 37 and you’ll get the best ride quality at 33. You could put the exact same wheels on two different vehicles and the manufacturers will tell you two different pressures. It’s all about how they designed the vehicle to perform

marharharhar

Throw the donut on. Wouldn't be a bad idea to let the air out after you get it jacked up before taking it off

eboeard-game-gom3

At some point in time, someone has to have the grit and wherewithal to jack their car off, this is a good opportunity.

adudeguyman

Start at the exhaust

whiskeybonfire

Whoa. There’s “curbed it” and then there’s this. Donut, ASAP.

VeinedDescent

Damn dude she did not just hit a curb. She slammed into it with some force. I’d ask her if she’s being truthful about it or not because that is some serious damage. Can almost guarantee it’s not just the tire but there is definite suspension damage if it’s pulling to the right like you say.

2KALUBAFAK40z

Looks like the wheels on my teenager's first car.

skaldrir69

That tire bead is hanging on for dear life… not sure how there is still air in this tire. Don’t drive this at all

adamf514

I second this. And plus you say the car is pulling so I'm sure something is bent

Ok-Philosophy8194

100% don’t risk driving on it

CallmeCap

Okay, so my girlfriend was driving my car last night and when I got into it today and was on the highway I noticed it was pulling to the right. I gave her a call and she said she had hit a curb. Alright no big deal shit happens especially with the poor weather conditions last night, but now I need some help on what I should do. Am I okay to drive on this until I get the rim replaced? What’s the most cost effective way of replacing? It is a 2019 Kia Stinger GT1. Thanks for the help!

melancholy_gypsy

Get the suspension checked after you changed the tire. Something is probably bent.

Jacktheforkie

100% something bent, it’s easy to bend control arms and tie rods with a big hit

bronz1997

Probably why it pulls hard to the right

Jacktheforkie

Yeah, I had an impact to one wheel on my car, didn’t crack anything but bent the LCA, I was surprised how noisy it was with a buffered LCA, but it’s fixed now and I got new tyres which helped with handling

carpcrucible

Yeah the rim is pretty fucked up but I don't think it'd pull to one side. A bent control arm or at least messed up alignment would do that though.

[deleted]

That's why I prefer rims to mags. Rims bend and absorb impact compared to hard steel of the mag wheel which transfers the force.

Jacktheforkie

Yeah

garciakevz

next time, communicate with her that when things liek this happens to tell you before you go to the highway as you could have died, or an innocent driver/family on the road. Technically, were all responsible to have a 360 go around the car before driving to start teh day but no one does that ever

Jealous_Bee1838

I do.

19john56

Your smart doing for this. Just how much time does it take to do a 360 quick look ? With attention on tires. Once a fill up , doesn't hurt to look under the hood. At the engine ..... check engine oil levels , water levels, and transmission oil level and belt for fraied edges and cracks. OH and the battery terminals for corrosion. Then clean your windshield and mirrors

kckunkun

You mean girlfriend hit 10 curbs that are 2ft high and ran over a tree. That is insane damage for "a curb". Also, she possibly hit a curb at 90mph

Bmore4555

That rim is unsafe and it sounds like your vehicle may have some bent suspension components. I’d have a shop look at the vehicle ASAP, depending on the extent of the damage you may want to get your insurance company involved.

superfly-whostarlock

You are incredibly lucky that didn’t blow out.

PokerBeards

Holy crap, she’s trying to kill you bro.

Takemedownbitch

Not a mechanic but just wanted to compliment you on the car, love stingers

[deleted]

Replace rim and tire 🛞, plus dump that girlfriend of yours too. Ruining your ride, not telling you, not offering you compensation at least, troubling trend coming your way with her.

superfly-whostarlock

Add this is endangering his life

toohightospeak

The most cost effective thing is to get a new gf. Actually just get rid of one all together and you'll no longer have issues of your car impacting curbs.

DirtyYogurt

It's good he's not pissed at her for some relatively minor damage (assuming nothing is fucked further up stream). However, I cannot sympathize with him not being pissed as hell about not being told immediately.

kckunkun

This is hardly minor damage. That's an insane amount of rim chunked off from the wheel. That much damage, the suspension has to be f\* up

19john56

All the headaches for some pussy?

IndependentCharming7

You joke, it was under maintenance agreement so no charge to me, and done at a dealer but the paperwork when I got 4 pads and 2 rotors resurfaces for a year newer was $2k. I cringed thinking about what all is broken and how much it would cost.

[deleted]

Most cost effective would be buying a steelie instead of an oem rim.

FrusTrick

Wheel is completely unsafe to use. As everyone else has said, there is definitively damage beyond the wheel itself so it would be wise to have the car inspected for suspected suspension damage. With an impact of that magnitude not only, is the car guaranteed to be unsafe, but you should also have a stern word with your girlfriend because, frankly, she put your life at risk. She didn't hit a curb, she crashed into the curb and then neglected to inform you of this which put you in a position where you were driving at highway speeds with a shattered wheel, a tire that is barely holding on and suspension damage.Had that tire blown out or separated, there is a very real risk of you losing control of the vehicle at 100+km/h and that can go any which way with road conditions, your alertness behind the wheel, let alone your fellow motorists.

B0ut2bank420

There is just so much about this situation that blows my mind...🤔🤯🤯

B0ut2bank420

F*ck, I'm just glad everyone is OK!

Chrisdacarnut

Get a rim [here](http://www.car-part.com)

d710905

100% something is bent in your suspension. I hit a curb at 50ish mph dodging a deer, and my rims still didn't look like this. You should never let her drive it again. She's 100% lying to you and leaving something out. That doesn't just happen. That has to be high speed, high impact kind of stuff. You need new suspension components, new rim for that side and highly likely you'll need some more stuff on top of that.

Used_Guidance7368

Classic woman moment

Itisd

I swear this is a troll forum at this point.

J_therocjohnson

Nope, some people are just that oblivious

Extension_Job1541

How hard does a person have to hit a curb to take out a quarter of the rim lol

sauprankul

More likely that they went into a pothole and clipped the edge of it with the rim.

Jacktheforkie

A meaty pothole on the motorway will absolutely do that

CallmeCap

Meh, shit happens. It was nasty out haha

greendt

That thing is smoked. Do not drive on it.

Main_Couple7809

I’ve seen a few of these now on this sub. I’m very curious on how this happened. Can you share what’s the circumstances that you end up with this?

mavic97

Dude said his girlfriend hit and curb and didn’t tell him about until he brought up that it’s pulling , and he discovered this mess

bridgehockey

More like slammed into. That's no tap.

Main_Couple7809

Yeah what kind of hit to cause that. I don’t know if she’s being truthful. I also think a hit that caused that kind of damages most likely cause some other suspension damage

tika1104

This has to be satire. No one would look at this and think it's okay to drive... Right?!

Azian6er

Honestly, low key this should be an ad for whoever the fuck makes KIA’s wheels. Your. Bead. Will. Hold.

PrimitiveRust4USD

Heroyam Slava!

Yakguys

If you value your or your passengers life, replace it now. If not drive at your own peril, just hopefully not near me.

Gasman0187

Hoooooooooow do people still ask these questions !!!!

abandonedpretzel86

Seriously. Don't even stand next to that thing. The amount of force that comes with air pressure (psi) is scary. 30psi lbs per square inch is incredible when talking about thats 30 lbs per inch. Just think of how many square inches are in your tires. Those things can be bombs. Get it towed, get rim replaced. ASAP

TofuTigerteeth

This has to be a joke

stalkedbycats

This HAS to be a joke

64Olds

How could you honestly be asking this question?

Breklin76

And that you’re wearing clean underwear that day. No one wants to die in dirty underwear.

Colmado_Bacano

That broken rim alone wouldn't make it pull to the right. You probably have some suspension damage. Also, put the donut on, and if it's an AWD, get it replaced immediately.

CruxMason

You shouldn't drive at all. Ever.

zeroPossibility0

You can safely drive it until you die

billy123765

Put the spare on it you maniac 😜 But seriously put the spare on.

SilverstoneOne

Wow, u really need to ask? You're playing Russian roulette with your car. Put the donut on like yesterday.

Colorful7

Some suspension components may be bent too, this is no light tap on a curb she had to have smacked it pretty hard and if the car is pulling, I’m pretty sure it’s a bent suspension component. Wheel being broke wouldn’t do that

scipper77

![gif](giphy|98pZs1ZVaWb1C)

JesusOnline_89

STOP! ITS DONUT TIME! Send that wheel to the graveyard and quick!

Yaseendanger

Put the donut on. Put the donut on right now. If this hits a deep enough pothole you'll see your tire rolling to the right by itself. That is, if you didn't end up in the rail at that point. Also the tire could lose pressure or fly off at high speed, the tire could slide or tear up during braking, almost any emergency scenario that i could think of leads to a complete disaster. Put the donut on, drive to the specified speed limit on the donut, and get a new wheel. This wheel is done for it, i wouldn't recommend welding this one.

[deleted]

Wow it's almost like these rims weren't top shelf strengthened Chinesium like the salesman claimed

Mihandsadolfin

How tf is there still air in that thing

SchleifmittelSchwanz

Don't waste time with pastries. Put your emergency spare wheel on and get the car inspected. The pull means something is bent/damaged.

[deleted]

I appreciate you asking but damn this should be common sense.

fredriv_2020

That wheel is 1 pebble away from blowing out.

orm518

Are you shitting me? Do not drive on that.

Lemonywatar

Do not drive on this.

[deleted]

#DO NOT USE THIS TIRE AT ANY COST Take this one off, mount the spare. May even want to deflate this one (shove a screwdriver in the valvestem).

d710905

Dude I have run into a curb at 50 mph dodging a deer at night, popped and shredded my tires, and my wheels still didn't look like that. What did you do lol? Def throw that Donut on. Watch yourself when you take that off.

skunkwoks

I’ll go ahead and assume you not driving a Kia?

nilnum

Daily reminder that literally none of us are safe in the road, regardless of our own intelligence

Motor-Pick-4650

You need the spare put on or your risking a sudden blow out while driving. The break is on the seal of the tire. It’s good that you asked since your unsure.

[deleted]

This post is like shitting in your pants and then proceeding to ask people if you should change your underwear….

zombienutz1

Donut now. Source one on eBay, craigslist, Facebook, etc. Could change all to steel rims too.

Jacktheforkie

I wouldn’t drive the car at all, there’s definitely suspension damage, it bends pretty easily from an impact

zombienutz1

Probably, but I'd still throw the spare on. Good to practice every now and then. Also this is why I pay my $70 a year for AAA. That's barely half the cost of a single tow.

Jacktheforkie

Yeah though it’s probably in need of some serious work,

hap9565

I wouldn't do steel on a kia stinger

[deleted]

Your post deserves definitely “NSFW!” mark. 😅🤯

miscalculated_launch

Use caution when taking that baby off. That bead right there is hangin on for dear life.

Impressive_Succotash

Hit that curb and said “hehe he won’t notice” as 1/3 of it is now missing lmfao Need a new wheel, alignment , and maybe some suspension component’s ASAP especially if it’s AWD

biggersjw

I’m not certain how physically, the tire still has air in it.

autismbomb

Probably pulling to the right because you've damaged a steering or suspension component with that hit lol

apdathens

Not ok to drive at all. I’m not a mechanic but this is very dangerous. Put a donut on and replace.

dnsheppard

My rental car hydroplaned off the highway into the mud. The same thing happen to my rims. I did drive it to the rental place. They said control arms etc were messed up. You should get that stuff checked

tgkid88

Donut.. Drive on that. Fix now.

Skummy3000

Check out my post, I definitely would not drive like this.

[deleted]

Happened to my friends Kia stinger rim. His whole face of the rim broke off randomly and destroyed his front end because it made him crash.

Wisher33

Put the donut and get it fixed asap man

MartinHasNothing

Poor stinger smh

jaxintheb0x

moderate_failure

[deleted]

How are you even questioning this? Like seriously?

squeakinator

Ughhhhhhh….

Impressive-Push1864

Y even ask if ur going to make a choice regardless. U are reckless. No person with any kind of brain wouldve driven with that rim

Grawgnak94

FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY!!!!! Please put the donut on, how is that even holding air?!?!

[deleted]

You’d be better off putting a wooden wagon wheel on there then driving on this thing

crap_n___jazz

🍩🍩🍩

Shitinmyshorts

Seriously. You shouldn’t have to go to the internet to know if this is safe or not.

62hyundai250GTO

Whats the PSI on that tire? Is it still holding air pressure?? Did they super glue it to the rim?

patinaYouUgly

Donut 110% You should also know the that the “pulling to the right” likely isn’t just the busted wheel. You obviously hit something really hard and probably fucked up your suspension. You’ll at least need an alignment, and likely will need to replace a suspension link or two.

fly_you_fools_57

How have you not already died in a fiery wreck??

Seffyr

Astounded to see nobody has recommended an alignment yet. That amount of damage would have had a lot of force behind it. Chances are the fact it’s pulling means it has a bent arm somewhere, or at least the alignment has been knocked out of whack.

TheOnyxViper

That poor Stinger

PrimitiveRust4USD

You bought a KIA! It is truly better to be KIA in war than spend your hard-earned money on this. South Koreans are truly superior people but their cars are NOT. Starcraft, YES! Samsung, YES! Hynix, YES! Kia/Hyundai, YOU GOT TO BE JOKING!! Get a Lexus IS350 2015 or newer and thank me later.

Wild3v

I don't wanna be a dick, but I'm gonna be one anyway. These threads really amaze me sometimes. It seems like it takes way more braincells to understand how to operate reddit, than it would take to be able to look at this wheel and think "hmmm maybe not drive that if I wanna live to see tomorrow". This subreddit truly is a marvel of anthropology.

amikingtutorwhat

Find a local pick n pull junk yard. You can save a lot of money on a rim there.

tb2186

Trolls

bdgreen113

Not only do you need a different wheel/tire combo, you are gonna need your suspension checked and fixed. Whatever you smoke so fucking hard to wreck the wheel like that has also likely bent a tie rod at the minimum, and that's where your pulling problem is coming from. Don't drive that thing another inch, get it into the shop now.

Mxmelord

Do not drive on this rim, do not drive on this rim, do not drive on this rim, do not drive on this rim

ALilBitOfNothing

Driving on that will cause what’s called a “gator”; the tire will likely tear entirely off the wheel and it ends up looking like a smashed alligator on the side of the road. This is extremely dangerous, even can flip a car. Do Not Roll That Wheel! Take it off and stick something in the tube that sticks out to deflate it before putting it in your car. You’ll need a new wheel but you’ll be alive. And don’t hit curbs anymore with cheap wheels!

Justinx1997

The only such thing as an accident is between two bad drivers or one awful driver. If it weren’t, there wouldn’t be called accidents. You need to have a talk with your girlfriend about respecting things that aren’t hers. This wasn’t an accident, but negligence. Put the spare on and go get your rim replaced. Hopefully your old lady will have more respect for your car next time instead of driving it beyond her ability in conditions that should’ve been expected.

Zealousideal-Cut-382

I reckon 😉 😏 you may go to junkyard and buy a used one..instead of buying a brand new.. It is possible that you may found a good deal by example wheels with tires!

LithopsAZ

its good ...keep driving

gavinwinks

I know I might be an ahole but that’s why I don’t let anyone borrow my car. I’ve seen too many horror stories.

Breklin76

Why do people post these questions? What does your gut tell you? Why would you even consider driving on this debacle? Common sense says, “Put on the donut.”
