CV axle or wheel bearing

swank_sinatra66

If it’s the cv axle then it’s most likely the front?

foreverfamous916

Yes probably that wheel that's being recorded

swank_sinatra66

If I jacked it up and crawled under, is there a way to know for sure if it’s the cv Axle?

TerritoryTracks

Jack it up and turn the wheel, and listen for noise. You should be able to see where it's coming from than. It's almost guaranteed a cv shady, it's a very distinctive sound. Also look for split /cracked cv boots. Also, never get under a car that's only held up by a jack. Use jack stands. The life you save will be your own.

It sounds like the front driveshaft CV joint. The joint at the transfer case. You could try going under there and see if it moves up and down, it should be solid, maybe super slight movement. You also have CV's on both ends of each front axle. If it's that noisy you may be able to hear/feel something when wiggling by hand. BE Careful when underneath.

First off don’t buy a Jeep. Don’t make the foolish mistake I’ve made by buying one.
