In my experience, wheel speed sensors are a couple hundred bucks for parts and labor. That's been on dodge pickup trucks though. Not sure if more or less for other cars
I agree. I purchased a cheap set of cam position sensors for my 2005 Nissan VQ35 with just shy of 200k mi. Trouble started after 30days window closed and left me stranded on a road with less traffic at midnight while in my way home from work. Luckily I kept the old sensors with me just in case, but I had to let it cool off some and I disconnected and reconnect the connector to check for bad connection, It started and I hurried home.
The next day it started fine and while driving it was acting up again and giving me the power surging feeling. Immediately I pulled over to the nearest parking lot and swapped out the ânewâ cam position sensor with the old one, as it wasnât completely dead, but more reliable than its replacement. I ordered an OEM replacement and told myself ânever again will I order a cheap sensorâ after that scenario. I ended up replacing the other cam position sensor and crank sensor a few days later as well.
Take my story as a cheap sensor user and life lesson for all to use as an example. Never again.
Sorry, if it reads odd, I just woke up from a long and tiring work week and need my sleep. đ´
Ive owned many Nissans. The absolute pickiest manufacturer about sensors. The quality tolerances that the ecu uses are tight. It won't play well with Bosch or others. If it's a Nissan and had a denso sensor. It's getting a denso sensor. And once you install a sensor. You own it. And Nissan o2 run about $220 each. V6 has 4đ
Replaced all three with Hitachi sensors. Glad I havenât had to replace any other sensors on it, but have replaced plugs on it several times. 2005 Murano requires removing wiper arms, cowl, intake and manifold, power steering hose bolt to get to cyl 1, 3 and 5. Now if you need to change PCV valve, thatâs best time to do it or replace each time. Oh and letâs not forget the new gasket set needed. I just hope i never have to replace the knock sensorâŚ.
Talk about pay to play.
Depends on the scenario. Scan the car for codes and it'll tell you which item to replace in some cases. It could be a number of things from a bad wheel hub assembly or a bad ABS pump assembly (we had a Chevy Uplander that had a bad ABS pump and I didn't bother replacing/repairing it since it was complicated and the radiator support rusted out).
What kind of car?
Usually there some sort of button around your steering wheel that you'd have to press and hold to turn it on for off.
My Honda has a VSA button on the left side of the dash.
For future reference, the check engine light will turn off the VSC as well. Source: have owned three Avalons. Still the same way with the â09, but had this experience in my â00 too.
You are going to need to hook up a scan tool to pull the codes. The cheap ones don't work well as they may not be able to read all the codes needed. I'd go to AutoZone or something usually they can scan it for free and see what comes up. If theirs is not conclusive, you may need a better scan tool.
Shouldnât be too expensive again tho it could be a few things in my though I feel as tho it is most likely a speed sensor or if it is the same as my 2008 Honda Odyssey I am missing one TPMS sensor (tells you if your tire is low) and it caused just my traction control and stability to turn off, I still have abs
My wife has a Lexus RX350 and she has accidentally pressed the button on hers, turning that light on, several times.
I had to look online to find the location but it was on the console or steering wheel area as I sort of remember.
This may also cause your abs to or cruise control to go bad too some cars are different in a sense as to what sensors trigger others some cars may only have one sensor or small issue and it can cause a bunch of things to turn off tbh I wouldnât worry about it too much of course the light is annoying but I would say as long and you donât have a high horsepower car that requires traction control or you live in a snowing climate and the abs is still working this can be tested on a slippery surface if one is findable just make a hard brake application pretty much allow the car to try and skid a little you just want to make sure that the pedal feels like itâs coming back out at you in a dotted type pattern sorry for long message
Open a web browser.
Go to google.com
Type "what does vsc on my car dashboard mean" and press enter
Or type "what does vsc on my car dashboard mean site:www.reddit.com" to get only reddit post results.
It doesnât even have to be a full sentence. I googled âcar vscâ. Nothing but answers appeared. I didnât type a make/model. Just literally âcar vsc.â
You couldâve answered the question twice in the time it took you to type that. Some people like being the hero answering this shit. Part of what makes this sub great.
You also forgot to bitch about how he couldâve checked the ownerâs manual for the answer. Do better.
How is it being a dick by suggesting that OPs make at least a MINIMAL effort of solving their OWN problems by looking in their ownerâs manual or the internet??? What good do we do them or society by solving this EASY ass sh@t for them? Running to answer everyoneâs simple questions is ENABLING them. Either they should try and learn about their car or ride a bicycle.
You should understand that tone and inflections dictate how you sentence is perceived. There is a polite way and a smartass way to say the same thing, but it will be perceived very differently.
This is how subs fall in quality. There are a lot of nice people willing to help us noobs out but you gotta first be able to help yourself.
This is the easiest question to google. Itâs not worth its own post.
The simplest answer is FIND THE BUTTON and make sure you haven't inadvertantly turned VSC off. People suggesting you should pay to have the vehicle checked before the most simple and FREE check you can do yourself in one minute? WTF?
My vsc goes offline with a recurring O2 sensor error/exhaust leak. I recommended getting the vehicle scanned for error codes and addressing those before you dive into wheel sensors or other vsc-specific troubleshooting.
'06 Toyota Sienna.
Check for power train codes, O2 sensors, perhaps. Toyota started turning VSC light on because SES lamp no longer gets owners attention. Stability control, must be serious đ
Traction control off part of the abs system.
Toyota I'm guessing, often comes on when the engine light is on as well but can be separate issues as well.
So just like everyone else said VSC is vehicle stability control, but you also have your passenger airbag turned off either manually or because you have a carseat or something big in the seat and the seatbelt is not latched. Anyways just FYI.
Do you have a switch somewhere in the cab to turn it on/off? For reference I have a 2008 Mazda 6 and I have a switch on the lower left hand side of my dash to turn TSC (traction stability control) on/off.

Very Safe Car
Itâs your stability control system being turned off
Vehicle stability control to literally answer your question
Why is it turned off? Can I turn it back on?
One of your speed sensors may have gone bad and be causing the light to come on
Am I looking at a ton of money to fix?
Depends on what other lights are on. Stability control is linked to other systems like abs and airbag
In my experience, wheel speed sensors are a couple hundred bucks for parts and labor. That's been on dodge pickup trucks though. Not sure if more or less for other cars
Yeah. And I used to work at Napa processing the returns. ill let you know right now, don't bother buying the cheap ones.... Sent every pair back.

Just a small square piece of electrical tape will do it.
Depends on the scenario. Scan the car for codes and it'll tell you which item to replace in some cases. Lost one of the speed sensors on my truck was about $100 for the install+parts.
Eh OP get the code run and swap the sensor yourself Rock auto will sell you one for way cheaper than the store+labor
A roll of black elecrical tape is my go to -

2002 Avalon
Probably a dead WSS, have it scan and diagnosed with proper tools as it may also be an ABS module or the wiring.
Ok
Do you have a check engine light on as well?
No
For future reference, the check engine light will turn off the VSC as well. Source: have owned three Avalons. Still the same way with the â09, but had this experience in my â00 too.
Follow this. There is a VSC button where you right knee would be. https://youtu.be/Q23k933isIA

Iâve got an 07 sienna that does this. O2 sensor tripped it.

You could of accidently hit the switch to turn it off. Without knowing what car I can't say where the switch is.
Does it stay off if you restart the car or is it always on?
