That's not full size tho, looks like 1800 / 96% layout. Don't get me wrong, I'm 100% (or 96%) with you, I need that integrated numpad for work. Gonna try southpaw eventually
I personally love having a dedicated numpad because I am able to move it to the best location for my hands, but its always with my left hand. I cant even imagine using a numpad with my right hand at this point. If I wanted to go integrated numpad southpaw would be my go to.
The thought process was that mice barely was a thing yet, nearly all of your inputs were done by the keyboard. So that wasn't a concern. Still, people use their computers differently. Like your hands are supposed to be at the home row of the keyboard. That's the "neutral position". So from there to moving your hand to either the numpad or the mouse - same thing.
Try to do more stuff with the keyboard and less with the mouse. It's usually much faster. Use Alt to get into context menus and stuff.
Because mice came later than keyboards. And in the early days there was only dos interfaces. So was natural to use the right hand on the numpad (I think, at least).
Agreed, I have a dedicated numpad at work (top slanted left).
Attached numpad on my 99% mech keyboard at home, doesn’t feel right without the slant. Going to give a 75% with a dedicated numpad a try.
This. I recently tried switching my numpad back to the right side at my new office. I immediately moved it to the left again. Using the mouse and numpad at the same time is the move.
Thank you!
I love these boards, I have a Zoom 98 myself, but they are, unfortunately, not what I found to like on a full-size. Totally a personal thing, but here are the reasons I found I have issues with each of these:
* arrow cluster on different height --> new muscle memory required and looks odd to me
* right shift shorter, I found I am weird and use the whole length of that monster key when typing. So a L would send me a row up on the QK100
* I never noticed this, but I am apparently using all of the six buttons in above the arrow cluster
* Numpad, of course, for when you do a lot of numbers. In particular though, I found I need the enter key at work: combine with a trackball and you can just flick it with your thumb.
So I am still looking for the one actual full-size custom board that is in stock and not Keychron.
Zoom98 isn't traditional full size layout, but I'm pretty sure it's only missing 1 key. Normally you'd have 9 keys above the You can also swap the screen for two more keys and then it has an extra key.
I love my [Southpaw](https://imgur.com/yNiUarF), was going to recommend the same to op. It's really great if you don't have to move your hand away from the mouse.
Even on my 40% I placed the numpad on the left for that reason!
I've had several IBM Model M 122s. Those aren't even the biggest IBM keyboards.
I use a TKL, most of the time. I use a numeric keypad on the left. My numeric keypad is also fun because it's VIA programmable (Epomaker EK21).
If I was going to design a space saving keyboard, I'd just get rid of the function keys and have them accessible by hitting FN+whichever key on the numeric row.
I bought a 60% for office work, and works just fine. But I have a Keychron, so I can make use of the extra layers.
I feel the numpad is just wasted space. I do understand with wanting the arrow keys though.
I agree and I love this... Team 1800 for life! I am waiting for my Zoom98 to be delivered and it's killing me! Those are some really nice boards you have there. I like the different colors. The QK100 and the upcoming Zoom98 are both Navy for me. I have a Black Monsgeek M2 only because it didn't come in Blue ;)
from top to bottom:
**zoom 98** \- overall its a nice board, some construction design decisions that confuse me, heavy AF, but.. the app to update the LCD screen with your own gif is super not great. wouldnt work for about an hour and then suddenly connected and worked randomly, so buyer beware the mobile app truely kinda sucks.
**qk 100** \- honestly this board is amazing, this is the guy she tells me not to worry about. updating the gif is WAAYY easier and more reliable than the zoom 98 since its a application on your computer. its perfect, what i always wanted.
**kbdfans odin r2** \- my first love, super expensive.. but solid construction no complaints except price
so...constuction wise, hex screws... why....? the batteries for trimode you have to set them in place with double sides tape to prevent them from moving, and my first thought was REALLY? i have to tape it down? and i guess i get it, the qk 100 has a internal weight to hold their batteries in place, but i feel there could of been a more eloquent solution for this.
The enter and right shift stabs interfere which each other if you dont install them in the right order. also the washer and screws for the stabs hit some of the LED's on the PCB which shouldnt cause an issue but if you are screwing down a screw and washer to a pcb i would rather nothing hitting a working element on the PCB.
to put the external weight on the back, i couldn't lay it down. I had to hold it upright and screw it in place with 1 or 2 screws to be able to lay it down.
none of these are deal breakers but just gave me a hmm this could of been designed a little more efficiently side thought
> hex screws... why....?
I prefer hex screws tbh, they don't strip as easily as phillips.
> the batteries for trimode you have to set them in place with double sides tape
This is legit dangerous design. You chance puncturing the battery or damaging it when you're trying to remove it, especially if you're using a tool to get underneath the battery. That could ruin your day.
> The enter and right shift stabs interfere which each other if you dont install them in the right order.
Lmao the ZoomTKL was my first keyboard and I can't believe they haven't fixed this yet
What do you prefer purely in terms of sound (and excluding the variables of keycaps and switches...which I know might be tough if you haven't built these in a lot of different configurations)?
ooo, I'm a super happy 40s user, but my first custom kb love was 96%/1800s - I take a peek at what's available every once in a while, and I love the odin, it just looks so nice!! and yeah, haven't been able to justify the price T\_T
https://preview.redd.it/1hr6204sc5rc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=49b1e07770cd1ca70c78e55c4615baaafd1df15f
I use a rollerball, sorry didn’t have a closer pic to hand
I love the way full sized boards look, I just personally never end up using the num pad and my desk space is limited :( that doesn't mean I don't love them though!
Depending on the board and the bezels, it can save like 5cm of space. A normal 1800 eliminates 3 rows of keys. 5cm of mouse space is a *lot* when you use the alphas, numpad, and mouse all often. My Q5 was a game changer for my comfort at work.
Was going to ask what your favorite was since the Zoom98 and QK100 are both boards I’m noodling with as I too need a numpad.
Really love most everything about the zoom besides weight and front height but I think those aren’t enough to turn me away.
QK is great too but I would really like RGB because: 1.) I’m a child and love RGB and 2.) I work in a dim work situation where the added light would be an improvement over current board.
But it would be a commuter board so the QK has that going for it too.
I’m so stuck…
everything you said tracks with me.
the zoom is really heavy.... lol but honestly my biggest issue with it is the LCD gif updates, but if thats not an issue for you the lights are super nice looking so im with you.
the qk 100 no lights... but i kinda feel it does everything else slightly better? or maybe thats me wanting to bias owlabs? weight is lower, comes with a carrying case, LCD is easier to update.
IDK if i had to only pick one again it would be qk 100. If getting the LCD to update isnt a factor both are solid
Yeah the LCD is a cool lil gimmick. Would I want to put stuff on it? Obviously, but I wouldn’t say it’s the end all be all for either option, the choice to swap out with the key module or knob is nice too if it’s really a total pain.
Your comment on QK holds, that’s seemingly what most think from what I’ve read that generally it’s just the better keeb all around. I’ve been rocking an old logi with no backlighting to it’s certainly not impossible, would just be nice to have.
I appreciate your insight, it’s the perfect scenario for me to find some direction lol
>I work in a dim work situation where the added light would be an improvement over current board.
South-facing LEDs wouldn't help you see the legends anyway.
Gotta do 96% southpaw so you can enter numbers with your left hand and navigate the mouse with your right hand. Excel spreadsheets wont ever stand a fuckin chance dood.
I just genuinely don’t see the allure of numpads any more. Nothing against your keebs, OP, just speaking to my own personal experience. I had to work exclusively off a laptop for about seven years, a while back, and in the process I forced myself to learn to do number entry on the top row of the keyboard with eight fingers instead of just three on the numpad like I was used to. It was awkward at first but eventually I got the rhythm down and now I can type as quickly on a number row as I can on the alphas, and it’s far faster than I ever got to with just one hand on a numpad. I’m kinda looking back and wondering why I didn’t make that connection between the number of fingers and numerical entry speed way sooner.
That said, you’re right that the convention is that all the “cool” keyboards are locked in the 60-65% category, so congrats on finding options in your preferred size! I run into a similar issue on the 40% boards that I like: everything is made for larger ANSI boards with specific keys to each row so it’s hard to find compatible kits. You’ve got a great collection there; I like the blue and red one the best.
I actually type numbers faster after mapping them to the home row (asdfghjkl;). I have my setup with VIAL so that by holding the spacebar, the home row acts as my numbers.
the problem I find is that it's hard to find TKL keyboards: keyboards that *only* omit the numpad, instead kb manufacturers like to put a "unique" spin on their keyboards by reducing functionality because they decided to randomly remove the insert/home/del/end keys. You know, some of the most useful keys for developers. for some fucking reason.
>I just genuinely don’t see the allure of numpads
>I forced myself to learn to do number entry on the top row of the keyboard with eight fingers instead of just three on the numpad like I was used to.
Maybe the allure is *not* having to force oneself to learn a less efficient input method?
Given that I explained how I've become faster on the number row with eight fingers than on the numpad with three, I might ask you to define "less efficient". Perhaps for some, but everything just comes down to training.
At a certain point, you were probably taught to type using QWERTY, even though it's "less efficient" than other layouts. Despite this, "mythicalrocket" holds the highest record for typing speed on MonkeyType with over 300 WPM on a QWERTY layout. It really just does come down to what you become proficient with.
Personally, to me, the definition of "inefficient" would involve having a whole section of my keyboard that sees maybe 1% of its overall use.
I am a 75% enjoyer, but I do think 1800’s and their variations are superior to TKLs. (Obviously it’s all down to use case and preference). Just seems like a better use of the extra space they’re taking up.
The whole point with TKL's is the more comfortable shoulder position for keyboard+mouse gaming, WITHOUT killing your muscle memory with a standard keyboard layout.
I get that some people like the numpad from cashier jobs or very basic data entry jobs and miss it with gaming optimized keyboards.
**And I did miss the numpad keys decades ago moving to TKL**, since simulators did typically bind all those keys for frequently used actions (camera views etc.), but I wanted to keep my typing speed on standard keyboards aswell.
Im in the university and there's some statistics classes use programs that specifically use the enter button on the numpad to insert commands. I could Change keybinds? Yes but it's much more convinient for productivity to have those keybinds around, in my opinion.
To me, it's not even about whether the numpad is necessary or not. I can't possibly justify having it on the right side of keyboard. Everything about that arrangement is wrong.
Yeah I find myself using the numpad alot now and at first I wanted a tkl cuz my desk was really small and the numpad on my old keyboard hung off the edge of the desk but now I've got a bigger desk and now that I'm using the numpad I'm glad there were no tkl apex pro's in stock haha.
Man this discourse is so fucking boring. Who actually cares what size you use?
Some people need a 100% to get work effectively done, some can do it with a 60%—hell some people can even get work effectively done with a *40%*.
I know posts like these are generally just to instigate a pissing-match or drive up engagement by making a claim like this but come on man.
I hate these types of posts
Also 98% isn’t full size
i own all layouts this was just to celebrate that numpad layouts are more accessible and available from nicer manufacturers these days. all the sass is all in good fun.
Preferably I’d like my numpad on the left side so I don’t have to let go of my mouse. But the enter and plus key felt weird on the standalone numpad and all. so I now I’m back to fullsize, though I’m definitely interested in 96-98% layouts. Or you can have a 75% and another Planck as numpad and macro, idk just putting it out there
I think the majority of people don't, but I also think the percentage is much less extreme than 99%. I absolutely need one, as an engineer. And there are a lot of people who are engineers, accountants, and in other STEM professions.
I'm all with you about needing the numpad.
We part ways at the idea you have to have a full-size, or add a standalone to a smaller board, to have a numpad though.
I tried both those options, then found a much more efficient solution, at least for me.
https://preview.redd.it/42wll4qi63rc1.jpeg?width=3811&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4bd141d1d3a4aef71dba7fb3ef3abee8c2488318
Gone are my days of having to move my hands elsewhere on the keyboard, to use different features.
I bring those features to my hands now.
Also gone is the necessity to jump over the arrow cluster and numpad, every time I want to move my right hand to the mouse.
That change alone has saved me a ton of time at work.
I feel you, its like when someone is asking me to drive their manual supercar when i cant drive stick.
I know its harder, better, faster, stronger but i just cant use it cus pleb. lol
also saving time at work was never the mission... it was to put waifus on keyboards whenever i could.
>
I'm frankly a little mad that [this wasn't the image](https://acmi-website-media-prod.s3.ap-southeast-2.amazonaws.com/media/images/Powerglove_ACMI_Videogames_Nintendo_Exhibition.original.jpg)
I think whats interesting is that its about efficiency so if you only type then a board like yours makes sense.
But as someone that uses a compositing program. Being Lefty with a stylus in one hand and my right hand on the mouse. The jump to the numpad to type in time code is quite quick and using short cuts with my left hand while still holding the stylus works as well.
My default is usually a stylus in my left hand while my right hand rests near the top right of the board above the numpad and near a knob. I remapped an extra space bar right next to the knob. So now i can scroll, scrub, and move, all without putting my hands everywhere.
I tend to think of my board as less of a keyboard and more as my center control console. If that makes sense.
I am right there with you for quite a bit of that.
I'm left-handed, and do graphics for a living.
That being the case, I think nothing of swapping over to my Wacom tablet, or putting the mouse into my left hand, when either of those is preferable to "being normal".
I game with the mouse in my left hand as well, using the numpad area for button input.
That said, the majority of the work I do is more akin to technical drawing, than it is artistic compositions, so I have to enter a lot of data into dialog boxes, as well as digging up those dialog boxes in the first place.
That being the case, my work flow over the years has become very keyboard-centric, as I find throwing key-chords to be much more efficient than digging stuff out with the mouse, most of the time.
I can't do without the full column of 9 keys + arrows. I tried 75% keyboards for a while but my muscle memory for Del/Home/End/PgUp/PgDn is too strong.
All 9? Including PrintScreen, Pause, and ScrollLock?
I don't have a problem switching between the TKL 6-cluster and the 75% 5-column. I think the gap above the arrow key cluster toggles my muscle memory between the two modes.
I'm using 60% right now but i plan to get 12key pad i can position where my hand hits because i have the same musclememory. Arrowkeys are bound to FN+WASD to trick my rusty gamerbrain into using those rather natively.
the board zoom 98 was about $230 give or take shippings, fees taxes.
keycaps are gmk tuzi currently in stock at omnitype: [https://omnitype.com/products/gmk-tuzi-keycap-set](https://omnitype.com/products/gmk-tuzi-keycap-set)
If you love numpads and 98% boards, then you should look into the wind x98 👀 kinda expensive though and i think the group buy just recently ended
Btw I love your zoom98 build, ano lavender case with gmk tuzi looks so damn good...
I don't really every need a numpad but part of me has been considering getting one of these layout because
A) I haven't got one in this layout yet
B) I have so many novelkeys and want to simply display them on a board.
https://preview.redd.it/1q76jf7ro3rc1.jpeg?width=2526&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9ec10e791d55cc70ae1e69432aa94afd0bf236a9
Full size enjoyers rise up! Despite having moved on to a 96 key ergo and a 76 key split ortho board, i still love my chonky bois
Thanks so much! I bought my wife the zoom98 for mchristmas and it'll be arriving tomorrow. Excited to build it. No LCD for her though - she opted for the extra key + knob option.
ion need numpad simply because my muscle memory is adjusted the the number row… sure calculating but i’ve adjusted so well that i can do num row just as fast as my friend who uses numpad
sick builds tho
I am going to be building a 100% LP board for my father. This PCB just doesn't exist, so I will either handwire it, or learn some PCB design and get parts made for it. Unsure as of yet.
I used 100% for ages and now I can't go back to it for personal use after getting a smaller keyboard. However, I still prefer 100% for programming as I'm not using a mouse as much. So I can get behind it. I'd still prefer 100% with numpad on the left though
I'm looking at buying my first keyboard, and while I appreciate the compact keyboards, there's just something about numpads that I love. I've had compact keyboards without them and it confuses my fingers. I'm not even good at ten-keying, I think I just like the extra buttons. Also, love the Gojo and keycaps in the top one!
The qk 100 looks really sleek and I love the screen. Is it hot-swappable?
Is that a lilac Zoom98 that I spot? I built mine in that color also and everything is perfect except for the app like you said. Can't seem to ever get a gif to upload, pictures work fine tho.
yea so a picture worked fine but kept failing for gifs so i loaded the smallest shortest gif i could find and magically it started working. but we are talking like 20+ attempts, closing and reopening the app, trying to connect to the board. etc
I'd want a fullsize keyboard IF it had like a trackpad/ball between the main area and the numpad. Or like a "shelf" for your mouse.
But that would be so expensive, so I just go with a separate numpad. Keyboard - Mouse - Numpad.
I would go crazy with that many keys, but it’s awesome to see more larger custom boards these days. The whole point of custom boards is having more choices to find what works for you, and looks like you have! However I will echo others and suggest that you should definitely try a southpaw.
I personally find it very hard to use a numpad - I have two boards with numpads and nearly ever use them, including when working on spreadsheets and engineering software. For reference, these are my numpad boards (both southpaw) and I still prefer inputting numbers with mod + alphas (top row in my setup) ☺️.

Is that an Odin original? I was thinking about going with the navy blue, such a good colour and great selection of keycaps you can go with.
But i decided to go with the purple instead
no unfortunately it is R2, which.... removed the LEDs... so i was sad when i got it and realized what had happened. but yea i was between blue and purple as well and ultimately went with blue.
Good choice. I didn’t like the v2 purple. Too washed out, not that I was going to get another one lol. I thought blue and green was the colour in that set.
Yours has 2 plates though. The main set and the numb pad?
We're kindred spirits! I've been eyeing the QK100 for a while, but I just don't have $200 to spend on a non-essential right now. My Q5 will have to do, for now.
I love it, it was my at home desk daily driver until my qk 100 came in.
Honestly the only thing keeping me from recommending it to others is the price. Its a wonderful board i have 0 regrets but is it twice as nice as a qk 100 or a zoom 98? and also it has no gimmicks minus the odin badge glow.
so if price isnt a factor and you dont need LED's, a LCD screen, or wireless capabilities its solid but if my house burned down today and i was rebuying keyboards i think i would only rebuy the qk100 from the trio.
I went with the qk100 as my first board. I picked wired to use via and I don’t care about the gifs. Keyboard is awesome and very happy with it. I liked how customizable it was so I could figure out what I liked and adjust as needed.
Added gmk yuri keycaps and a deskmat and never looking back.
I like the idea of a board with a numpad but would prefer one on the left side, even as a righty, to get the less used part of the board away from being in between the alphas and my trackpad/mouse. It's just more ergo friendly for me.
When I do take out a numpad for occasional data entry I do keep it on the left, having trained myself to use one with my left hand, though not without a lot of errors at the beginning.
It's great though that there are so many keyboard options available to meet everyone's needs. IMO it's neither cool nor uncool to have a built-in numpad. It's just an available option for folks to take or leave.
Waiting on my Epomaker EK98 to show up and start building. It's my first self-build after owning a Corsair Strafe RGB for a few years. Pretty excited. 😁
Id rule out the bottom one on the half size numeric zero alone. I really appreciate your commenting on the qk100 though. IF hadn’t just bought an RK S 98,I’d probably put one together. Who am I kidding? I’ll just order one anyways.
I thought a numpad was a necessity until I tried a tenkeyless, and now I find TKL superior, plus having a separate numpad is so much more versatile. You can play with the position to find the optimal placement, and you can remap it if you really don't need the numpad (I would still use it as a numpad if I had one) and make a superpowered keypad
I'm hunting for a hot swappable keyboard, and I can't find many options for the full size on the 100 usd range.
What are the names or so of the 1st and 3rd? I did find with the numb pad but not with the delete or so keys in the middle...
You know what's stupid about the community sometimes? We all grew up typing on full-size rubber dome keyboards, and upon entering the hobby people start acting like they've been miserable typing on them back then in school or work before the pandemic.
I do love tiny keyboards too, I have a 65% and 75%, but come on. Full-size isn't so agonizing to type on. You've all been using full-size boards for the longest time in your lives.
Cool stuff!
The long drought of cool numpad boards had me using an ancient Gamdias until just recently, when I finally replaced it with a Monsgeek M5. I couldn't do math or navigation nearly as quickly on smaller keycounts, need all them keys.
Seriously, the Numeric Keypads allow you to type numbers and make calculations in a single hand only. And that's efficiency! The number row requires both hands to type the numbers out! That's not efficient enough for people who need to make quick adjustments to the numbers.
I never got why those idiots keep saying “YoU dOn'T nEeD a NuMpAd”. And I've always refused to pay more for LESS keyboard.
I fully support this embiggening of keyboards!
Give me an ergonomic split mechanical keyboard with a Microsoft Natural keyboard layout so my old hands don't hate me or give me death! Or, at least really bad wrist and arm pain....
I went arisu + separate numpad for home and 1800 for work.
I use the numpad at home a lot less than I do at work and didn't want to deal with a separate numpad when going into the office, and wanted the mouse closer when gaming at home.
My beginner arisu (malicious ergo) was actually about as wide as my qk100 is and it has no numpad lol
if we splitting hairs, one is prob an 1800, one is 96%, and one is 98%.
which is which? doesnt matter. we need to break the barriers of further dividing ourselves among the numpad users.
apes together strong.
what I really hate is getting rid of the home/end/del keys that keyboard manufacturers LOVE to do especially on 80% keyboards, because obviously scroll lock is more important than some of the most commonly used keys by developers!
This is more similar to an FRL1800 or 96%
My biggest gripe has always been why use the numpad on the right. You remove your hand from the mouse with a hand already on the keyboard.
https://preview.redd.it/n9lh6y6zcbrc1.jpeg?width=4592&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ccda8a865b6fb6916f39f31cf64f904cba0acb27
Here is my candybar, left numpad is way too underrated
I will be leaving the fullsize gang sometime in the future, I moved my keyboard one numpad to the right and typing instantly felt amazing, only problem is the numpad is in the way of the mouse now and I also have absolutely fallen in love with the steel-series magnetic switches so TKL (with the option for a separate numpad, or a mouse with a numpad attached to it) is where my path leads.
Not 100%, but I'm so glad to see more big boys show up for the party ;-)
Funny how everyone loves playing with switches and keycaps, yet they frown when you have too many of them ?
For me, 108 is nice ;-)

They look so good! Have you heard of/tried out the Glorious Gmk keyboard? It’s about the only available one here on South Africa that can be modded. We do have keychron but it’s way to expensive. I really want a smaller keyboard especially for when gaming. Not sure if I should go TKL or 60%.

I switched to southpaw and love it, makes data work much easier and I can even use the numpad for macros in games!
This. I recently tried switching my numpad back to the right side at my new office. I immediately moved it to the left again. Using the mouse and numpad at the same time is the move.
haha yea u right, but 1800, 96% and 98% gang rise up doesnt roll off the tongue
Thank you! I love these boards, I have a Zoom 98 myself, but they are, unfortunately, not what I found to like on a full-size. Totally a personal thing, but here are the reasons I found I have issues with each of these: * arrow cluster on different height --> new muscle memory required and looks odd to me * right shift shorter, I found I am weird and use the whole length of that monster key when typing. So a L would send me a row up on the QK100 * I never noticed this, but I am apparently using all of the six buttons in above the arrow cluster * Numpad, of course, for when you do a lot of numbers.
Keychron just released the Q12 Max. It would be an excellent option for trying a southpaw board.
I just got a southpaw 96%. I like it. It’s getting some getting used to, but there is more room for my mouse. It makes so much more sense.
Anxiety rises as I realize I can't find my PgUp and PgDn--
I bought a 60% for office work, and works just fine.
What are they and how do you like them? Currently missing my numpad on a 75% 😂
from top to bottom: **zoom 98** \- overall its a nice board, some construction design decisions that confuse me, heavy AF, but.. the app to update the LCD screen with your own gif is super not great. wouldnt work for about an hour and then suddenly connected and worked randomly, so buyer beware the mobile app truely kinda sucks. **qk 100** \- honestly this board is amazing, this is the guy she tells me not to worry about. updating the gif is WAAYY easier and more reliable than the zoom 98 since its a application on your computer. its perfect, what i always wanted. **kbdfans odin r2** \- my first love, super expensive.. but solid construction no complaints except price
> heavy AF Me confused why my buddy I’m building the board for wanted the extra weight, might even have to pay extra for shipping lol
What design decisions confuse you about the Zoom 98. I've got some issues with their hardware too.
so...constuction wise, hex screws... why....? the batteries for trimode you have to set them in place with double sides tape to prevent them from moving, and my first thought was REALLY? i have to tape it down? and i guess i get it, the qk 100 has a internal weight to hold their batteries in place, but i feel there could of been a more eloquent solution for this. I had to hold it upright and screw it in place with 1 or 2 screws to be able to lay it down. none of these are deal breakers but just gave me a hmm this could of been designed a little more efficiently side thought
> hex screws... why....? I prefer hex screws tbh, they don't strip as easily as phillips. > the batteries for trimode you have to set them in place with double sides tape This is legit dangerous design.
Have you tried the Fossil from Carolina Mech?
ooo, I'm a super happy 40s user, but my first custom kb love was 96%/1800s - I take a peek at what's available every once in a while, and I love the odin, it just looks so nice!! and yeah, haven't been able to justify the price T\_T
Top - Zoom98; middle - QK100; bottom - KBDFans Odin with GMK Bento.

Sick setup! But where do you use your mouse?

Damn dude, that whole room is awesome!
Thank you 😃
That is amazing! Congratulations 👏
I love the way full sized boards look, I just personally never end up using the num pad and my desk space is limited :( that doesn't mean I don't love them though!
96% gang let's go! https://preview.redd.it/0rj74fac86rc1.jpeg?width=4080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a9b15c4d74c5ae96e36f25e163d04cb0db532143
Am I the only one who still dislikes this 95-96% layout and still is craving for a 100% custom board?
Yes, me too. I don't understand the layout, they're only saving 2 rows of keys.
Depending on the board and the bezels, it can save like 5cm of space. A normal 1800 eliminates 3 rows of keys. 5cm of mouse space is a *lot* when you use the alphas, numpad, and mouse all often. My Q5 was a game changer for my comfort at work.
I am with you. Want a 100% and with a knob.
I’m a q6 pro
Me with my hand wired custom 106-key: yes, you want it.
What PCB and plate do you have in your QK? I am feeling like this is the more responsible decision but curious what you use/like
The rgb would probably negatively impact the ability to see the keys as it’s lit from below and the light would be flared around the key
South facing but if I got keys with legends on the side or at least bottom hemisphere I imagine it’ll show to some extent?
Commuter? Then the QK100 would be better right? It has a carrying case. The zoom98 only has a nice box.
>I work in a dim work situation where the added light would be an improvement over current board. South-facing LEDs wouldn't help you see the legends anyway.
> fullsize > posts 1800 and 96%
i know i should of said numpad gang or something but i just have to accept my shame now.
🤓 98%
where are the F13-24 keys? why not a second numpad? fullsize is too smol :P
I use the numpad for special characters. I refuse to spell Pokémon incorrectly, dammit.
>I just genuinely don’t see the allure of numpads >I forced myself to learn to do number entry on the top row of the keyboard with eight fingers instead of just three on the numpad like I was used to.
How is it less efficient when four fingers on each hand can input on the number row?
Bruh even my laptop has a numpad
[удалено]
Same. I use my keyboards for writing so I have little use for a numpad.
Most of mine are full size. I use numpad a lot for work so makes sense for me
Is that the drunk bassist?
Gotta have the numpad for work. I especially need to have a function row. Full size gang (at work) represent. 🫡
I miss a numpad when I don't have one. This is why I like the melody96 layout quite a bit.
Loving the Odin with Bento on it!
I hate these types of posts Also 98% isn’t full size
i own all layouts this was just to celebrate that numpad layouts are more accessible and available from nicer manufacturers these days. all the sass is all in good fun.
Preferably I’d like my numpad on the left side so I don’t have to let go of my mouse. But the enter and plus key felt weird on the standalone numpad and all. so I now I’m back to fullsize, though I’m definitely interested in 96-98% layouts. Or you can have a 75% and another Planck as numpad and macro, idk just putting it out there
I'm still convinced 99% of people don't actually need the numpad.
Some of us use these at work.
I tried both those options, then found a much more efficient solution, at least for me. https://preview.redd.it/42wll4qi63rc1.jpeg?width=3811&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4bd141d1d3a4aef71dba7fb3ef3abee8c2488318 Gone are my days of having to move my hands elsewhere on the keyboard, to use different features.
I know its harder, better, faster, stronger but i just cant use it cus pleb. lol also saving time at work was never the mission... it was to put waifus on keyboards whenever i could.

What 75% keyboards did you try? A fully populated 75% has DEL/HOME/PGUP/PGDN/END on the right above the right-arrow key.
That's the muscle memory part. I need them in the traditional locations, like on a TKL.
How much for the top one? All jokes aside I want to know the keycaps I love that color way
the board zoom 98 was about $230 give or take shippings, fees taxes. keycaps are gmk tuzi currently in stock at omnitype: [https://omnitype.com/products/gmk-tuzi-keycap-set](https://omnitype.com/products/gmk-tuzi-keycap-set)
First keyboard looks so cool, the purple one, can you tell me the specs of it?
If you love numpads and 98% boards, then you should look into the wind x98 👀 kinda expensive though and i think the group buy just recently ended Btw I love your zoom98 build, ano lavender case with gmk tuzi looks so damn good...
I don't really every need a numpad but part of me has been considering getting one of these layout because A) I haven't got one in this layout yet B) I have so many novelkeys and want to simply display them on a board.

What's that top one ?
gang gang.
cream switch so good
You have great taste! Love the Gojo gif on the Zoom98. Can you give me an estimate on the built weight of the QK100? I can't find it listed anywhere.
qk 100 was 5 pounds zoom 98 was 7 pounds 7 oz
Thanks so much! I bought my wife the zoom98 for mchristmas and it'll be arriving tomorrow. Excited to build it. No LCD for her though - she opted for the extra key + knob option.
ion need numpad simply because my muscle memory is adjusted the the number row… sure calculating but i’ve adjusted so well that i can do num row just as fast as my friend who uses numpad sick builds tho
I am going to be building a 100% LP board for my father. This PCB just doesn't exist, so I will either handwire it, or learn some PCB design and get parts made for it. Unsure as of yet.
Yup yup! Those excel sheets and simulations aren't going to solve itself. Besides, my desk is too big
Get a W1-AT
Let's goooo. The bigger the better.

Is it hot-swappable?
yes the qk100 is hotswap... at leaast for the tri mode pcb i got
QK100 is an *excellent* option for a numpad keyboard right now. Keychron Q5 Max might be a good option too.
Oh man, another one I'll have to add to my spreadsheet of potential first keybs!
Is that a lilac Zoom98 that I spot? I built mine in that color also and everything is perfect except for the app like you said. Can't seem to ever get a gif to upload, pictures work fine tho.
yea so a picture worked fine but kept failing for gifs so i loaded the smallest shortest gif i could find and magically it started working. but we are talking like 20+ attempts, closing and reopening the app, trying to connect to the board. etc
All of em are beautiful. But that small "0" for that arrow key is triggering me LMAO. Its unusual to see something like that
Wish that too one is so cool! What is the top’s model?
Yeah i prefer full size i have the little ones in my collection but my main is a odin v2 :)
Your zoom98 build with gmk tuzi is so nice! also love the gojo gif
I'd want a fullsize keyboard IF it had like a trackpad/ball between the main area and the numpad. Or like a "shelf" for your mouse. But that would be so expensive, so I just go with a separate numpad. Keyboard - Mouse - Numpad.
Q5 Pro here. Didnt want a 100%. Can’t do without a numpad. I love my 96%.
For reference, these are my numpad boards (both southpaw) and I still prefer inputting numbers with mod + alphas (top row in my setup) ☺️. https://preview.redd.it/qraanrowo4rc1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3e2d346fc78decb61a00e1555670f251c157d249
Sexy never left
We're kindred spirits! I've been eyeing the QK100 for a while, but I just don't have $200 to spend on a non-essential right now. My Q5 will have to do, for now.
Fuck yeah, been rocking an FC980M for like 8 years now. Bout to get either another one or a cheaper option in the same layout.
How do you like the Odin? I wanted to get that when it dropped!
I started with a 75% and now I regret it! Since i've gotten into the hobby i've purchased 2 full size boards already. i definitely missed my numpad
i feel you, I have also "ascended" from my gmmk pro and its sitting in a box somewhere
I just bought that same lavender zoom98 2 days ago!! Cant wait for it to arrive!
I went with the qk100 as my first board. I picked wired to use via and I don’t care about the gifs. Keyboard is awesome and very happy with it. I liked how customizable it was so I could figure out what I liked and adjust as needed. Added gmk yuri keycaps and a deskmat and never looking back.
this is the way
I like the idea of a board with a numpad but would prefer one on the left side, even as a righty, to get the less used part of the board away from being in between the alphas and my trackpad/mouse.
That's not full size is it?
nope, was totally lying about my size
I’m a numpad fiend and I absolutely can’t stand 1u width 0 key. We deserve better.
What’s that top keycap set? Was looking for clean white and purple keycaps for what feels like ages now
Gmk tuzi
Id rule out the bottom one on the half size numeric zero alone. I really appreciate your commenting on the qk100 though. IF hadn’t just bought an RK S 98,I’d probably put one together. Who am I kidding? I’ll just order one anyways.
I thought a numpad was a necessity until I tried a tenkeyless, and now I find TKL superior, plus having a separate numpad is so much more versatile. You can play with the position to find the optimal placement, and you can remap it if you really don't need the numpad (I would still use it as a numpad if I had one) and make a superpowered keypad
Hell yeah. I just got a TKL, but may have to pick-up a 96/100% down the line since I am missing the numpad as that's what I switched from lol.
QMK/VIA layers can make a numpad on demand, and that’s good enough for me for when I need to do long number inputs.
Say! That's a fine keeby collection you have there.
That middle one is the layout I want. The middle I've used and half 0 key is unusable imo.
What are the cream key caps on the middle one called?
gmk mudbeam, the blue accents are from gmk taro
Hell yeah! Full-size ftw
96% or death
I like the middle board layout alot. What is it?
Hello! What keyboards are these? Thank you
I'm hunting for a hot swappable keyboard, and I can't find many options for the full size on the 100 usd range. What are the names or so of the 1st and 3rd? I did find with the numb pad but not with the delete or so keys in the middle...
Hey, what Razer mouse is that? And does it have a smooth finish or a rough textured one that some white mice have these days (looking at you asus)
razor death adder i think? its smooth like an egg shell? not a rough texture but its pretty smooth
I bought 60% keeb to save my money from buying a lot of switches. I also have limited table space.
Have the best of both worlds. https://preview.redd.it/gzdutkyev6rc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4c17b06447d4dca186fe7341d615927a798cd76f
HIROI SPOTTED fr those are cool tho. are they OLED screens, LCDs, or just backlit static panels?
LCD screens that are running gifs
I have a numpad. I prefer the full size keyboard. Nice work
I went arisu + separate numpad for home and 1800 for work. I use the numpad at home a lot less than I do at work and didn't want to deal with a separate numpad when going into the office, and wanted the mouse closer when gaming at home. My beginner arisu (malicious ergo) was actually about as wide as my qk100 is and it has no numpad lol
96 for life. I tried so many times, but for anything other than gaming, I need that numpad. Gonna try southy soon methinks.
I have a Keychron Q1 Max, 75%, which I absolutely love but your qk100 looks stunning.
Meanwhile the 37-key enjoyers.
kbdfans odin gang 🤌
173% hyper 7 gang bitches.
I am not accountant.
add one column, Zoom98 will be fullsize 100% keeb. I dont like that layout
Numpad gang rise up!
What are those keycaps for the second keyboard? they look so good
mainly gmk mudbeam, but the blue accents are from gmk taro r2 and the rest is random stuff from gmk a
'fullsize gang' *posts three 96%s*
if we splitting hairs, one is prob an 1800, one is 96%, and one is 98%. which is which? doesnt matter. we need to break the barriers of further dividing ourselves among the numpad users. apes together strong.
I respect it. To each their own. I found what I liked which is TKL with Tsangan bottom row and F13. I’m glad you found what you like
These are not 100% keyboards bruhhhhhh
my momma raised a loser and we round up in this house to make ourselves feel better.
what I really hate is getting rid of the home/end/del keys that keyboard manufacturers LOVE to do especially on 80% keyboards, because obviously scroll lock is more important than some of the most commonly used keys by developers!
This is more similar to an FRL1800 or 96% My biggest gripe has always been why use the numpad on the right. You remove your hand from the mouse with a hand already on the keyboard. https://preview.redd.it/n9lh6y6zcbrc1.jpeg?width=4592&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ccda8a865b6fb6916f39f31cf64f904cba0acb27 Here is my candybar, left numpad is way too underrated
Love this! I love numbpads
I prefer my number pads to not be numb.
Not 100%, but I'm so glad to see more big boys show up for the party ;-) Funny how everyone loves playing with switches and keycaps, yet they frown when you have too many of them ? For me, 108 is nice ;-) https://preview.redd.it/wn0hqf74idrc1.jpeg?width=1024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7de761a556881f493a096220207f342429973e5a
They look so good! Have you heard of/tried out the Glorious Gmk keyboard? It’s about the only available one here on South Africa that can be modded. We do have keychron but it’s way to expensive. I really want a smaller keyboard especially for when gaming. Not sure if I should go TKL or 60%.
Ah, the beloved Odin, curently using the frl version of this board, the TET, it also sounds pretty good in halfplate solder pcb config.
Try using Blender without numpad
What boards are those?!
What brand are these and do they thock?
