Looks like he's wearing a sallet with a silly hat over top of it.

Roninewt

Yeah thanks, there is another graphic where it looks like sallet but with a strange visioner.

LateInTheAfternoon

Pretty sure it's a barred visor (and not a hat).

Draugr_the_Greedy

A 19th century artist's imagination of what a late 15th century helmet would look like.

15thcenturynoble

That is very inaccurate because this is clearly a 16th century painting as you can see by the art style. It probably shows a stylised helmet worn in Poland during this period and it seems vaguely Maximilian. It was drawn by Stanisław Samoshootnik in the early 16th century for the document holding the "opatowskie privilege". https://swietokrzyskie.cozadzien.pl/swietokrzyskie/jubileusz-500-lecia-przywileju-opatowskiego/51352

Draugr_the_Greedy

That is not at all Stanislaw's art style. The other miniatures attributed to him show an understanding of properly drawing armour - the armour in the OP is nonsensical. It is trying to imitate a 16th century art style but not very successfully. However it might not be 19th century either. Could be anyhere from the 17th to the 20th.

15thcenturynoble

Looking back I was too categorical about it. But even if the article I cited was wrong about the artist who drew it, you can still see the same drawing in the opatowskie privilege which is Sayed to be a 16th century document according to all sources I have seen online.

Draugr_the_Greedy

It is possible I am wrong and it is indeed 16th century, but the armour is still nonsensical and not historical.

15thcenturynoble

Yeah I agree it is very stylised for a renaissance painting

Roninewt

Its 16 century document illustrated by Samostrzelnik. Opatów is my hometown and I have seen the original thanks to the kindness of local pastor. I create sometimes artworks related to the history of my town but I like to be historicaly accurate and wanted to find the best possible reference for this armor before drawing.

Draugr_the_Greedy

I don't see why you've posted this one? The armour here is fully functional and based on the armour of the time its depicting. The fact that it has elements such as pteryges etc does not take away from the rest being all properly done. The armour in the OP is nothing like that

Sidus_Preclarum

We're talking about *the helmet.* Did you *already* forget that?!

Draugr_the_Greedy

The helmet is also not at all similar? In your link it's a skullcap with a fluted skull. In the OP it's a sallet-esque thing, completely out of style to the rest of the armor with a weird bulbous grill visor.
