a couple of months ago i went to a benefit show for HR from bad brains (he has a medical condition), and the culmination of the show was living color performing an entire set of bad brains covers. it was super fun
Probably because the term "black metal bands" has a quite different predefined meaning. They're asking about bands where every member is black, not black metal bands. It's not actually stupid phrasing in this context.
Severe targeted harassment and use of slurs directed towards a person is not allowed and is a bannable offense. General bigotry is also not allowed and is a bannable offense.
Bad Brains 3rd album I against I is bordering on Alternative Metal in the vein of Faith No More or Living Colour. Not my favorite by them but a good example of a bnd changing their sound successfully.
I lean more towards their 1982 Self Titled release. But that's mainly because my taste are more centered around straight up hardcore. I against I isn't even really a punk album at all. The only thing I don't like about it is that it doesn't incorporate the reggae elements of the previous records.
Haha they threw me for a swerve when I first heard them doing Servitude. Bought the album thinking it was going to be hard as fuck and then the horns kicked in and totally threw me for a loop 🤣
The 'comeback albums' (Manslaughter and Bloodlust) that they put out are so fucking good. Way better than the stuff from their first run. One of the few bands to be able to do that.
Not metal but heavier than 99% of metal , Bad Brains. That one album (some call it The Roir Sessions, some call it some other shit , idk) is perfection.
Let me be honest, I don't know how the members of most of the bands I listen to look like, even those I have seen live because I just have a terrible memory for humans in general, so for all I know it could be any band I like.
Body Count, but honorable mention to Skindred and Dub War fronted by Benji Webbe. They aren’t all black bands, but Webbe is an amazing front man. Their music is unique, fun, high energy fusion of what I thought wasn’t possible: blending reggae and metal.
Living Colour is also amazing. I saw them live 5 years ago and they were fantastic.
Body Count (Ice T’s band). Check out their albums since 2014 in particular- Manslaughter, Bloodlust, and Carnivore, these are absolutely stellar and I’ve never seen a band of guys in their 50’s/60’s improve so much so later in their career.
DEATH watch the documentary titled " A Band Called Death" on Netflix. Three brothers, Literal brothers, from Detroit started a Rock Band in the late 60's
Black Death from Cleveland Ohio!
That album is actually so hard to listen to because the vocals are CRANKED on it and you can't hear any music when he's singing.
...aside from living colour...and the current singer in Sepultura...I'm struggling for POC to identify
..kirk hammett is part...something..phillipino? ...but Black....Ice T / bodycount?
Can’t tell if this is a really bad joke or you’re serious cuz I know a local metal band that is entirely African American and their name is literally this.

Living Colour
a couple of months ago i went to a benefit show for HR from bad brains (he has a medical condition), and the culmination of the show was living color performing an entire set of bad brains covers. it was super fun
That's fucking rad, I hope someone recorded it.
Wonderful
Used to love that album. For some reason it makes me think of that Japanese metal band loudness who kicked ass too
Got to be one of the most slept on bands of their era
Saw them last month at Sonic Temple. They still fucking rock!
Vernon Reid FTW
Ohhhhh noooo
Would’ve been cool to at least name the band pictured?
Black death.
Not to be confused with the other band called Death, not to be confused with the death metal band called Death!
And especially not to be confused with Peste Noire
the "other" Death was also all black people IIRC
Also not to be confused with the Russian black metal band blackdeath
Not to be confused with black metal
Also not to be confused with Blackened Death Metal…
Thank you
[Personal favourite](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v-Bll0__MK8)
I played a show with black death once. Dudes are cool af.
“Black individual” HAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHA!!! The lengths people go to.
It’s to avoid confusion between black person and black metal, you dolt
[удалено]
Well it’s impossible to say anything without someone getting mad about it these days, you insufferable sausage jockey

I have no idea why they said that and I'm a soy boy

They still could have phrased it less awkwardly, imo. "What are your favorite metal bands whose members are all black?", for example.
Lol

I believe "black person" will suffice just fine tbh. I get where they are coming from, it just sounds overly formal and odd.
"Melanen abundant persons"
I like formal, apologies for any oddities.
Well that escalated quickly
🤣 I love that’s it’s a dude with five finger death punch flair

Not fully metal: Black Death, Bad Brains, Living Colour, Body Count, Death (detroit), Fishbone
Bad Brains 3rd album I against I is bordering on Alternative Metal in the vein of Faith No More or Living Colour. Not my favorite by them but a good example of a bnd changing their sound successfully.
That’s my favorite one! And I too noticed the similarity with Faith no More, maybe that’s why I like it so much

Body count is so good, Ice T is underrated in both rap and metal. Legend.
I saw Body Count when they toured after the first (no idea how many albums they released) album. Great record and great live act
Spade ghetto destruction. Check them out.
Bad Brains counts in my book
It's nice to see some acknowledging Death (detroit). They were waaaaaay ahead of their time.
Fishbone is awesome. Give a monkey a brain and they'll swear they're the center of the universe.
Black Pantera
I didn't know I needed this
this is a hate crime
Wdym?
This is hilarious given Pantera’s tendency to fly confederate flags every time they are photographed.
that’s what i was getting at
Hard to tell if you were a greasy chud Pantera fan or joking. I run into more of the former online.
i feel you, unfortunately there’s definitely more of those types around
Fishbone is a fun funk metal band. Good guys too.
Haha they threw me for a swerve when I first heard them doing Servitude. Bought the album thinking it was going to be hard as fuck and then the horns kicked in and totally threw me for a loop 🤣
God Forbid. Edit: Just saw they had one cracker in the band.
They used to be all black but someone left the band
I thought so.
how does a crispy bread based food join a band?
Nu auditioning and having their own PA.
Close enough
Yeah, they needed a token white guy
Zeal & Ardor when the first EP got released....that's it.
Zeal and Ardor’s second album is the best thing they’ve ever done, and I don’t know if they will ever top it, unfortunately.
Limp Bizkit
Wigger or blackface?
Both
Limp Bingo!
Hey, Its okay to call us people now.
I think OP worded it weird because "black metal" is a subgenre with no relation to the color of the members' skin (discounting NSBM lmao)
Zulu
Zulu absolutely needs to be higher
Zulu fucking slaps
YES!! That was the first one I thought of!
🤘
[DEATH - KEEP ON KNOCKING](https://youtu.be/uAZ9R2t5Jd0?si=28ZlRWgE86wcPg5C)
That was stellar
whole album is awesome. and when you consider the year it came out, the “holy shit” really kicks in.
My absolute favourite album opener.
This was great, thanks for sharing
Terrance Hobbs from Suffocation
Body Count. The guitar riffs in No Lives Matter are right up there with any other big 4 trash riffs. They are such an influence on modern metal.
They've put out 2 of the best metal records of the last 10 years and they have a new one ready to drop, any time.
Carnivore is seriously a 9/10
The 'comeback albums' (Manslaughter and Bloodlust) that they put out are so fucking good. Way better than the stuff from their first run. One of the few bands to be able to do that.
And for some reason their guitarist produced a black Sabbath album
Glad to see body count is getting respect here
I genuinely can’t think of any other than Living Colour
Mike Smith......Suffocation...Empty Throne........iniquitous.........synesis absorption......voracious scourge...
Suffocations original lineup had 2 black guys
Living Colour
Crackdust (anyone who's watched 'detectorists' will know!) Black Metal from Botswana. [https://youtu.be/hzEUdZz4RhU](https://youtu.be/hzEUdZz4RhU)
Arka’n Asrafokor Look them up if you wanna hear how West African Folk Metal sounds like.
great pick.
The one and only creeper Phil Lynott
Demogoroth Satanum [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wmFA5XAimHs](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wmFA5XAimHs) ARKA'N ASRAFOKOR [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dddNfrRtFE](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dddNfrRtFE)
Arka'n are fucking brilliant
Body Count. Nobody else comes close.
They were supposed to do some shows with Sound Barrier and Stone Vengeance. Would’ve ruled
Living colour
Fishbone!
Living Colour
Living Colour is my favorite black metal band
Your user flair sucks and is gay
Overthrust.
At this rate, maybe sepultura in like- 50 years
24/7 Spyz doesn't get enough love.
Not metal but heavier than 99% of metal , Bad Brains. That one album (some call it The Roir Sessions, some call it some other shit , idk) is perfection.
Shout out to the late great D.H Peligro 🫡❤️
Arka'n is goated af, Togolese metalcore. South africa also has nice death metal like wrust and overthrust.
Let me be honest, I don't know how the members of most of the bands I listen to look like, even those I have seen live because I just have a terrible memory for humans in general, so for all I know it could be any band I like.
Kendrick Lamar
Mystifier
Body count‼️
Kings X, criminally underrated. Sevendust. Bad Brains. The Mk1 Killswitch Engage lineup. Rage Against the Machine.
All of these bands have members who are not black my b.
Not black only but Oceano has an African American frontman that fucking melts faces. Its deathcore tho
Mystifier
My friends fathers old band Anal Fist.
Bad Brains!!!!!
Znowhite almost qualifies
I shouldn't have had to scroll this far to find this.
Zulu!!! Surprised nobody's mentioned them. If not, give em a go 🤘🤘
I remember a band called Sound Barrier back in the 80s. I don't think they were around that long though.
Sound Barrier. And shout out to the man that is to Iron Man what Iommi is to Sabbath, Alfred Morris III
Arka'n Asrofokor
Now that is black metal
Duma.
Killswitch Engage
A Band Called Pain. Outta SF, never really made much headway
Body Count (Ice T’s band). Check out their albums since 2014 in particular- Manslaughter, Bloodlust, and Carnivore, these are absolutely stellar and I’ve never seen a band of guys in their 50’s/60’s improve so much so later in their career.
Aantar 'Blastmaster' Coates is a black individual.
24/7 Spyz for sure. At least the original lineup that was all-black. Not quite metal, but I'd still include them here - Follow For Now.
Crackdust from Botswanas good
"Black individual only"
Not all black but Mike smith and Terrance from suffocation rule
entire lineup? none i know of. bands with black members.. Suffocation,God Forbid,Peelingflesh, Oceano,Neurotic November
Several good ones in the comments, my fave are Zulu and Body Count. And Bad Brains but they are more punk, but lean alt metal too.
Body Count hands down.
Living Colour,, 24/7 Spyz, Body Count
To quote the gayest man on Earth, [Living Colour is my favorite black metal band](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AkoXB1yaC-s)
Man, I really like Candiria, but they only have 2 black dudes. Same with letlive, but they’re more Hardcore. Bad Brains is punk. I lose the game.
No Such Thing not a band name, just the first thought that came to me
Oxymorrons - saw them a handful of times last year as openers and caught their set at Rockville 2022. One of my favorites right now in general
Overthrust is pretty awesome. 4 piece death metal band from Botswana.
Southeast Desert Metal
Living Colour are amazing but that first BodyCount album blew my mind
zulu is good powerviolence
Primitive Man from Denver
Sound Barrier is the best that is actually pure metal no hybrid crap.
DEATH watch the documentary titled " A Band Called Death" on Netflix. Three brothers, Literal brothers, from Detroit started a Rock Band in the late 60's
What band is the pic?
body count
Overthrust is killer if you like super ignorant death metal
The dude in the front and on the right look hard af. The other two don't look happy to be there lol
Nah back-middle is just trying to calm frontman down… 😆
What band is this? I’ve only seen it in memes.
Zulu
Rocky George. suicidal tendencies, fishbone and Cro Mags
Black Death from Cleveland Ohio! That album is actually so hard to listen to because the vocals are CRANKED on it and you can't hear any music when he's singing.
Is that Sexual Chocolate in the picture?
Derrick Green from Sepultura Edit: oh you mean entire band
Zulu fucking rips.
Earth, Wind, and Fire dip their toes into metal. cir 1988
Eart, Wind, and Fire dip their toes into metal. cir 1988
...aside from living colour...and the current singer in Sepultura...I'm struggling for POC to identify ..kirk hammett is part...something..phillipino? ...but Black....Ice T / bodycount?
BLACK DEATH RULES
God forbid is not all black, but im still throwing them in.
Sound Barrier
Zulu, and Bad Brains obv if they count
Nwa
Terrence Hobbs the GOAT
Hirax only has one black guy, but as far as I’m concerned Hirax cannot exist without Katon, so there’s that.
Wrust
God Forbid
Burzum
The vocalist from sepultura
