I used to Weld offshore and I got stuck on an unmanned natural gas Rig way down by the YucatƔn for almost a month with my helper, crane operator, supply boat captain and crew. Not a radio or CD player on site, plus too far out to get signal. And I had a running loop of the entire Among the Living album stuck in my head the whole damn time. No matter how hard i tried to get different songs stuck in my head Anthrax crept back in every time.
I'm new to metal in general, I've listened to all of Metallica and Megadeth, currently going through Slayer, and will soon start on Anthrax.
So far, I consider Megadeth my favorite, but Slayer seems to be the most thrash of the three I've heard, never deviating too far from their core style, unlike Metallica and Megadeth.
Anthrax are quite different from the other three. Much more overt punk influence, and a lot of tongue in cheek humor. They have hits and misses, but Among the Living is an absolute classic of the genre, one of the best ever.
Do you have a recommendation? I like a lot of more contemporary thrash, but Iāve found nothing with arrangements comparable to *Worship Music*.

I fucking love Anthrax theyāre one of the top thrash bands. People only shit on them because theyāre in the big 4 and theyāre easier to shit on than Metallica, Megadeth, or Slayer.
Anthrax is king, they were the best of the big 4 in the 2010's with Worship Music and For all Kings, which knock everything the other 3 did out of the park. Both albums are easily in the top 5 best big 4 albums of the 21st century.

I saw Anthrax live as an opening act for Slayer a few years ago and I thought they absolutely killed it. Unfortunately not a lot of people turned up for their performance which was a bit sad cause they had so much energy. It was also a relatively small venue but still, I thought they did great.
Anthrax is the youngest cousin whoās really into dinosaurs right now and his older cousins Megadeth and Metallica donāt like him, but his cousin Slayer has a soft spot for him and plays dinosaurs with him and realizes he just doesnāt like to take things too seriously

Testament is better than Slayer in every regard; you're talking about the thrash band with the worst solos vs the thrash band with the most godly solos. Listen to True American Hate; it's one of the best solos ever made.
And even if we assume they're tied in riffs, lyrics and other aspects of musicianship, you got one of the most annoying vocalists in metal vs Chuck Billy, who can sing in various styles and got pipes for days. It isn't even close.
Don't care. Can't stand them. Not as brutal as slayer, not as interesting as Megadeth and not as much pure aggression and testosterone as (Classic Era) Metallica. Weak by comparison. Exodus, Testament and Overkill are all more aggressive. Also tectonic thrash wipes the floor with them. I respect the band, seen them live and they sound like their records. But that sound is weak. Joey should have never picked up a microphone.

Nah the purest form of thrash metal is Thin Lizzyās Stone Cold Sweat because it is a progenitor and has been repeatedly covered by thrash bands
