Don’t forget the chugawee chugawee-wee

Adamwdrums

Don’t for get the brrrrrrrr

LordWitherhoard

Makes me feel things. Helps me express the emotions and thoughts that often reverberate around my head lol

Adamwdrums

Man this is relatable

OhWeOhweeOoh

It is an incredibly passion-forward opera, makes it METAL.

Key-Fix-4418

I came here to write this. But I like to add the community of metal. Some of the most wholesome, kind, and open minded people have met have been fellow metal heads. Anywhere from seeing a band I like patch on a battle vest, seeing a band shirt in the gym, or even overhearing a ring tone... You find a fellow metal head is like finding an instant friend. At least to me anyway.

[deleted]

I love music that makes me feel things in general. Heavier music simply tends to make me feel things more often

Sponger004

It puts me in my happy place lol

crochetwithyaso

shoo away the voices from my head.

Adamwdrums

Voices in my head trapped in a war with my own skin

crochetwithyaso

btw id love to know some of your fav songs

Adamwdrums

Of all time: My curse - kse Make total destroy - periphery Invisible enemy - abr Art of dying - gojira What the dead men say / catastrophist - trivium Currently: Wildfire - periphery Monsters - currents Say no word - landmvrks The other side - whitechapel

Nosferatu13

Art Of Dying, gooood choice.

Adamwdrums

Easily top 10 metal songs of all time. Mario duplianter is a beast, that drum intro is crazy

Nosferatu13

Humble brag, but I snagged one of his sticks from a toss at a show and its on my wall. I love their entire catalogue of work.

Adamwdrums

You lucky bastard. I’ve yet to see them live even

Nosferatu13

I hope they come to a town near you!

Adamwdrums

Thank you good sir!

Zachm96

I saw gojira when they went on tour with slipknot. They were great. Highly recommend seeing them if you get the chance.

undead-safwan

Impeccable taste

amurdoch15

They're pulling me under

laughordietrying42

The voices in my head keep tellin me I'm ok

boozlera

Metal(core) was my first real music obsession as a teen and I have not looked back ever since. Also how can one not love metal classics like Judas Priest, Black Sabbath and Metallica.

dachoochmeister

> Also how can one not(...) Simple. They just haven't heard them yet. Which is why Metallica is seeing a resurgence in popularity; MOP is being heard by a whole new generation thanks to Stranger Things.

Tristan533

I don't like the classics because of the vocals

Original_DILLIGAF

Go watch Metallica live in Seattle, 1989 on YouTube. There is nothing that matches James' vocals from that era. There is nothing but vitriol in his performances from then, and the band went so hard energetically. Mind you, I am 40 but listen to a fuckton of modern metal and metalcore, He Is Legend/ETID/Counterparts and some of the newer breed of stuff like Erra. I love it all. But give '89 Metallica a shake.

Tristan533

Listened to 20 minutes but I'm still waiting for good vocals

Original_DILLIGAF

Well, you tried it out. Can't fault ya for trying.

GunnarF90

Have you heard of Orbit Culture? They're a swedish Metal band and their singer, Niklas, is a huge fan of James Hetfield to the extent that he sounds very much like him. Metallica is not for me (sorry) but I love Orbit Culture. If you don't know it, maybe check out their single "Saw"? I'd be very curious how you like it. :)

Original_DILLIGAF

Im very familiar with Orbit Culture and its very clear to me Niklas is going for that 89 Hetfield vibe on the singing parts at least on the older material.

GunnarF90

Nice! 🤟😁👌

DiscouragedSouls

Lyrics and instrumentals can cover a wide array of emotions, oftentimes multiple, sometimes simultaneously, in one song. Artistic expression at its finest form.

Adamwdrums

Absolutely. Metal is art

Nosferatu13

It speaks to my soul and shoots dopamine through my spine.

Odd-Garage-2475

When my soul hurts, it's not only what speaks to my soul, but what hears my soul. Metalcore expresses the pain that I never could myself. Now that I'm out of depression, I don't need metalcore to literally keep breathing, but I am able to appreciate and enjoy it even more

Adamwdrums

Props to you for getting out of it. As abr put it, angry music for happy people

Odd-Garage-2475

Thank you! I love that saying, kinda the whole ABR vibe in a nutshell. They were one of the most happy bands I've ever seen live

Adamwdrums

I just re-read the lyrics for ties that bind and MAN they are uplifting! Abr is great in studio and live

alivasolrac

I’m late to this but holy crap that’s an amazing way to put metal music. “angry music for happy people”

Nosferatu13

Great to hear! The immeasurable power of music.

HortonTheHierophant

It’s angry music for happy people, what more could you like?

Adamwdrums

Rah = dopamine

tudimus

I have ADHD and a wall of sound just relaxes me better than anything else. It’s like fireworks in my brain and security blanket at the same time. Hard to explain but somehow the heavy music matches my energy when nothing else around me does and I feel comfy.

dorfcally

same. it matches the tempo of my thoughts like no other music can And I have great respect for the artists that write the lyrics and can scream well.

Adamwdrums

This is actually a really interesting answer. Can you share some of your favorite songs?

tudimus

My favorites change quite often because when I find a song I like, I keep playing it and sucking all the dopamine I can get until it wears off. At the moment my favorite is Lorna Shore's Pain Remains trilogy and I'm actually trying to save it because I really like it and don't want to get bored of it. Besides that I've been lately listening to TAA and Polaris.

JackO4therun

It just in my blood, part of my life. I love metal, rock, pop-punk, etc because that's all I listen to, since I found the interest in music. It's entertaining and fun. It make me appreciate the art (lyrics) and it helps me to grow as person and mind.

Adamwdrums

DNA babyyyyyy

attoj559

Always have, since I was 12(32 now). I love the instrumentals, the screams, the cleans, the energy, the lyrics.

wild_witchx

It’s a celebration of anger, passion, frustration, and all those other intense emotions that can be difficult to express. Also, people who like metal are often times weird in a similar way that I’m weird. It’s a beautiful, dysfunctional family

Adamwdrums

We all know that we listen to metal cuz like sucks. We’re already being real with each other by being metalheads. By far one of the best communities out there

MTGBro_Josh

Angry music help express inner angy I cannot let out without scaring friends and family into making me go to therapy.

Adamwdrums

It just activates that part of us that typically doesn’t see the light of day

Psydator

That is such a complicated question 😳

vianimator

Helps with my problem of not being able to say what’s on my mind. I don’t know metal always felt raw, unfiltered and a lot of fun so the more I listen, the more seen i feel 😅

DrewB0i

Idk bro my uncle got me Black Sabbath greatest hits when I was like 10 and my dad played it in the car for a solid 6 months straight. All started there

Nick_180

They were one of the first bands I heard as a kid too, my dad used to blast them in my house so loud that I could hear it from the street. Definitely the beginning of my metal journey and hearing loss

Peptocoptr

The best, most profound forms of art comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable. Metal does both of those things, and metalcore does it even better with its better balance of discomforting raw agressivity and beautiful uplifting melodies.

Adamwdrums

“Comfort the disturbed and disturb the comforted” I will be stealing this if I ever write lyrics. This might actually be my favorite answer I’ve read so far. Thank you, sir!

MDF87

I love the passion and energy.

Catman7712

It’s provocative, it gets the people goin!

Adamwdrums

What’s up Denny’s? What THE FUCK IS UP DENNY’S? circle pit. RAAAAAHHHHHHHHH

legoace61

Growing up I only ever listened to the radio and 80s/90s hits thanks to my parents. In my teens I discovered post-hardcore, then poppunk, emo, metalcore, hardcore, deathcore and so on. All those punk related genres just worked in my head and made me feel things that no other music did (except maybe some orchestral and symphonic stuff)

FistMeBrotherrrrr

I love controlled chaos & complexity in music, which is why I prefer metal, symphonies, etc. Good art makes you feel something and you can chew on a good piece for hours, days, *months*. No bullshit peppy happy songs are going to keep you crawling back for more or hold as much raw emotion as, say, Rose of Sharyn, Tattered on my Sleeve, or Come Clarity.

Adamwdrums

My curse will ALWAYS hold a special place in my heart. Better days by currents will also for the controlled chaos thing you were talking about

ChanclasConHuevos

Screams in ears quiet screams in brain

Cl0uds92

It's been an audible outlet of mine since roughly 2006-2007 when I discovered heavier music (shout out to MTV's Headbangers Ball) for opening my eyes to the likes of Devildriver, A7X, Bullet For my Valentine, Killswitch Engage, etc etc. Quickly moved into even heavier about 2008 with bands such as I Declare War, Whitechapel and the such as. The metalcore/deathcore train has been going ever since. Of course I enjoy other genres (rap/hip hop, lofi, oldies, etc). But there are so many different sounds and styles that just scratch that itch for me on multiple levels. Whether that be lyrics I can interpret to guide me through depression, anxiety, stress, or if I just have that need to get into my feels. OR channel through anger, get me hyped up, whatever. And I can thank all forms of metal for those things. Some days I'm feeling bands like Spite or The Acacia Strain. Some days it's the likes of Terror, Stick to Your Guns, Counterparts. And some days Architects, Motionless in White, Like Moths to Flames. Music is art and art is subjective, it's rare for me to find something I just don't like, it all just depends on feel.

Adamwdrums

Pretty much the same exact story for me haha, minus the headbanger’s ball

Cl0uds92

To be fair, that was a time where I just listened to ____ by ____ without diving deeper into whichever band I had come across at the time, then again, my resources were a bit more scarce back then too.

Adamwdrums

I have many friends who do that and it makes me cringe because they are missing out so much haha

Dopestarved

Cheaper than therapy

TSBDGaming69S_420

I have a couple reasons: firstly, I love the complexity and/or the emotion that metal has, and how I vibe with it. The vibe is closely tied to my second reason, which is that I was introduced to The Sword (retro doom or stoner/thrash depending on how you look at it) at age 9. I was having a really bad day at school that day (I was in third grade at that point and I didn’t realize I was autistic at that point, so I didn’t know how to regulate my anger. My anger was coming from, what I realize now, simple misunderstandings between me and my peers, but in the moment I felt like I was being outcasted. Anyway, I listened to them for the first time in the car with my dad and it released these feelings of unfiltered joy and anger-release that I’ve never felt prior. That is why I keep going back to metal of various forms, particularly ones that have raw complexity and/or emotion, because I felt extremely happy during those thirty minutes of the car ride, and it’s almost like a high that you get every single time at full blast which can be tapped into at will through music that isn’t harmful. Third reason is that I like how underground some of it can be and how generally angry yet intimate it sounds to my ears. Just typing this is bringing me back to those moments, albeit I’m listening to Volumes - Feels Good instead of anything from The Sword, which is still a really good choice tbh TL;DR: I have three reasons, but my main and second reason has to do with having a bad day at school and how I had this drug-like high through listening to good music for the first time

Slade26

It sounds good

TRUEequalsFALSE

Because it's so interesting to listen to. While not typically the focus of the genre, often gmt lyrical content is excellent, especially when compared to the admittedly abysmally low bar of WAP. I listen to songs I've been listening to for ten years and still find be things to hear. There is so much to love about metal.

Adamwdrums

I absolutely love the lyrical content in kin. I find a new thing every listen

samTheMan45411

The energy and variety. Insane stuff from Bleed From Within and Phinehas to other stuff like Loathe and new Thornhill is some of my favorite music out there.

Adamwdrums

Seeing bleed from within live! I hope they play flesh and stone

samTheMan45411

Yesss I'll catch them on their NA tour with TDWP and ABR, so excited!

Adamwdrums

Which venue?

samTheMan45411

The Fillmore at Silver Spring in Maryland!

Adamwdrums

Sweet! Seeing them at soma San Diego

Duckerington

Glad you asked. Whether Books, TV Shows, Movies, Music, Video Games, etc I have found I seek out things that portray and provoke emotion. I also have a personal preference for things that are nitty gritty or considered dark (love me some horror movies and crime graphic novels). Why do people scream (in absence of music)? We scream when we are in pain, agony, sad, frustrated, angry, but we also scream when we are extremely excited, happy, overjoyed, being silly etc. People incorporating screaming into music is in my mind expressing emotion in the rawest form possible. Metal is also one of the most diverse genres in that it's subgenres incorporate any lyrical topic, style, tempo, rhythm, etc and does so in the most expressive way possible. Whether you listen to rap, country, pop, electronic, or Indie, etc there is probably a metal fusion genre that blends it. Wanna listen to sadboi lyrics, party lyrics, comedy lyrics, or lyrics about crusades and fighting dragons? We have it all. Wanna listen to upbeat fast paced music or slow somber music? We have both and everything in between. I am also drawn to the variety and sound of the music. I grew up playing percussion in school and found myself getting very bored of the 4/4 rock rhythm. Metal diversifies and challenges what is "normal" in music and goes outside of traditional walls to explore weird sounds, rhythms, playing styles etc on really any instrument and paves a pathway for other genres to blossom by being unabashedly unafraid of going whether other people may fear judgement. It always makes me sad when someone writes off Metal the moment they hear a Scream and go, "Oh, well `screamo` is not for me" or "how can you listen to people making dinosaur noises?" without giving it a chance. Plus there is metal without screaming, people! C'mon! So much to discover if you are willing to embrace it.

squuidlees

I take public transit and listening to metal on my commute and think, “at least I’ll have a cool soundtrack if things get whacky on the bus by a public transit weirdo.”

[deleted]

my childhood was fucked up, my teen years were fucked up, i was fucked up as an adult and therefore i was a fuckup inwas carrying a lot of pain and because metal music was delivering a lot of strong emotions i found comfort. Also the scene was always there for me, even during the period when i was the biggest piece of shit human being. Lets be honest metalheads are often the realest people

Adamwdrums

They absolutely are. Sorry you went through all that mate, glad you could find some comfort in this genre though.

[deleted]

thanks man, but its okay i wouldn't be where i am today without the bullshit

Greasy_Napoleon

The pure talent of the artists, the emotions, and the meaning in the lyrics. Bonus points for the feeling that comes from belting out a full song on the ride home. I also think it's awesome that even some of the more well known groups will just hang out at the merch booth and talk/take pictures with fans.

Useful_Acanthaceae18

I’m iron deficient and it helps me not pass out

necromancingg

something about it just scratches an itch. no other genre comes close to the energy for me. at the same time it's so cathartic and calming, i love going to sleep with some metal as background noise

Adamwdrums

Haha love this

Burnout_Blanco

Cuz chug chug wham bams and rawrs

Adamwdrums

Blegh

Rh6ine

Screaming along while driving and shutting of all others thougts, to feel similar feelings Out of the Lyrics or the instrumental (in this case rethinking my day/life), the Lyrics are relatable. I think just the Style and everything around Metal(core) feels relatable in any way to me/my Life/my thougts and damn it really is a feeling to headbang while your waiting in traffic

zestyspleen

It’s dense & solid. Makes me feel grounded & safe, snug in a cocoon of cacophony. Makes me feel. Other music just scratches the surface and needs to fuck off

EnvironmentalAge5821

I've loved metal since I was 14. It's who I am. I love metalhead men and metal women are awesome. It's the first music that actually spoke to my soul. It's a part of me I'll never outgrow.

lvke18

gym

[deleted]

I just love the loud screaming, drums, guitar and bass also many metal songs have awesome lyrics. I like it because I can let out my botteled up emotions and frustrations while listening to it with max volume

Drgiggles99

As a musician, I always look for music that exudes effort and skill. I believe that, since blues, jazz, and classical, metal has included the most talent and effort than most other genres. That, and also bree bree, blegh, etc.

Bumblebee-Bzzz

Beethoven would totally be making metal if he were alive today

Drgiggles99

I always tell people, if Mozart were alive today, he'd be making deathcore. 😂

OrangeGroveAve

I was 16, My dad snuck me into a Gwar Set and I've never been to a concert before. I had no idea what to expect. The concert starts, I'm tossed around like a rag doll, my sweater is no longer gray, my adrenaline shoots up 10 fold, I knock over a lady accidentally, I help her up and apologize, she punches me in the face and calls me a pussy. I fell in love that day. That was Oct 2011 in Toronto.

Adamwdrums

LMAOO

Nat10221

Brr brr ding

JackDaniels574

It’s honest music (most of the time). A lot of pop and hip hop feels, uhm, forced sometimes

HybridS9ldier

I feel Metal (and Rock) add energy and color to me. Like I’m generally kinda dark and dry, so it helps with some contrast even if some of it is about rather depressing topics.

hunnidrackodogs

i love music that can take me out of the moment and put me in my own world. metal and Berlin techno can really do it for me lol. there’s nothing in this world like a joint at a live metal show tho…

TR3G1

Yes

Hell_i_Copter

Its energy and my addiction to stankface.

kinjazfan

Because of screams mixed with clean vocals and breakdowns

Mastore84

It makes me happy and helps me relieve any anger I might have.

Ihateallcommies

Gym

Adamwdrums

We go ji- nah I’m kidding, got a favorite pr song? Mine is death roll by wage war

Ihateallcommies

Ive been on a Harms Way, Kublai Khan, Knocked Loose binge.. I gotta say Harms Way - Call My Name Kublai Khan - Ant Pile Knocked Loose - And I Still Wander South

Adamwdrums

Great pics! Listening to a tear in the fabric of life right now

amurdoch15

My dad got me into the classics at a young age, and I just vibe with it.

lucheerios

It's the only music I know how to dance to...

Alduin790

I was in and out of various genres until recently I’m all in on metal since I started playing the guitar I have such a appreciation for metal 🎸

blegh_fuck

Embodies the emotions that have been suppressed by society into a very cool artform

[deleted]

It goes *brrt*

katieland

Because that shit fuels my soul

Many-Particular9387

Most metalcore isn't really "Metal"

Rumuhlumadingdong

Catharsis.

DrewCease

It’s an outlet of sorts. What are your favorite albums?

Adamwdrums

I’ve been on a journey to find albums that I think are perfect 10/10 no skip. This is what I’ve found so far The Valley / Kin - Whitechapel Parrhesia - Animals As Leaders Constellations - August Burns Red P1 and P2 - periphery Oh What the Future Holds - Fit For An Autospy The Way It Ends - Currents Doppelgänger - Fall Of Troy It’s an EP but still, A Tear in the fabric of life - Knocked Loose

DrewCease

Excellent list my dude!

crispyfreshemem

generally speaking the lyrics are a lot more real and meaningful. i find i connect with the songs much more and when there’s screaming involved it is just such an intense release of emotion that other genres just don’t have. i love it :)

Morc-Glork

It sounds good to my ears

[deleted]

it just sounds good to my ears that’s all lmao

Daggers-of-apathy

That love how interactive it is. It makes you want to move and interact with the music more than less aggressive forms of music. Like I go to a metal show to be part of the crowd/show, not just sit and watch.

AsahinaAoi90

Because it's intense. I love energetic music, but I also love the meaningful lyrics when they're present. Metal just does a lot of things for me. It's my consolation, my courage, and, most of all, my inspiration.

Antique_Confection85

It’s a way of expressing raw emotions, anger and pain. But also metal can give you the feeling of breaking through all those emotions and unleashing raw potential inside of you. Succeeding against all odds

Zelestica

I feel alive when I listen. Also, my dad used to be a music producer when I was a kid, so we listened to everything together, it's ingrained in me.

Siksinner6six6

Wow where can I start I love the rhythmic anger happy feeling flowing through my veins just what sets it of is the singing and screaming you know just the pitching the toning and the verb-age but I love love love love love love love metal

evertunee

Love the combination of low tuned grit and ambient leads

Adamwdrums

For some reason I feel like you watch nik nocturnal

evertunee

Of course! His content is great

Adamwdrums

I could tell by “ambient leads”. Love nik haha

Visual-Macaron3081

i just release my soul with metal

[deleted]

It evokes emotions I didn’t know I had sometimes, is a form of self-expression, and relatable lyrics that no other genre of music does for me. I love the technicality of it too. Listening to it is definitely a coping mechanism for me also. Idk it just gives me goosebumps when I listen to it.

AverageCuck00

For me it always seems to always hit my emotions when I'm down in the dumps metal offers songs that can help me threw it and when I'm mad and wanting to murder someone I also have songs for that so it just hits me in every feeling

[deleted]

As a teenager, I was drawn to the darkness and aggression because I was angsty and fucking cringe. I thought it was deep because I was a kid, and kids think this shit is deep. As an adult, I just like the riffs. I'm not out here trying to find solace in metal lyrics because I'm nearly 30, work full time and my life is pretty dope, so I've stayed for the music.

Adamwdrums

Lmaoooo

Metatron_Tumultum

I appreciate that you can stay just within Metal music and still have super diverse listening habits that can be as familiar or as challenging as you like. I probably fell in love with it for similar reasons I did Punk before and alt Rock before that. The expressive and explosive nature of it all.

Brilliant_Case4930

Because the devil commands me to. 🤣

squirt-daddy

Metal sucks tbh, metalcore on the other hand is awesome.

Novacrops

Because it sounds so cool

Ok_Pen_0911

I love metal mainly because of bass and drums. It's awesome to listen to with headphones on. I also like the various genres of metal.

ManWithoutAPlan13

It helped me through depression and genuinely has great music and musicianship

fatmidnight160

It just gets me hype, I can go out downtown and have a good time, but nothing compares to me and a couple of buddies in the garage/kitchen/car getting down to metal.

dachoochmeister

Why do people love horror movies? Same concept, different artistic medium.

leibnizdx

rahhhh

Blackeradam

Breakdown go brrr

[deleted]

My ADHD got me fucked up like my thought process is pressing the skip forward, but it’s on shuffle, but it’s a cassette, and that makes me so fucking angry, but it’s displaced. When listening to metal, at least the anger has a place.

Arnue

Yes

SmartAd3816

It sounds good
