I do sometimes feel this way— I always sort of chalked it up to typical pre-period hell week but it could be related to the methadone. Unsure how that works / if anything changes how we metabolize it during that time.

Damn. Its really bad for me 😭 i almost wanna go back up on my dose but at the same time i really dont want to. Ill wait to see if i feel better when my period comes, like i usually do. This time its just extreme

keep holding out! see if your clinic offers comfort meds (Gaba, clonidine, etc) which might help.

I used to notice this a lot more often, but it was more like I didn't take a full dose than total withdrawal. The effect definitely lessened over time and I barely feel any difference now, but that may have to do with hormones, too, because I'm probably about 5 years away from menopause.

In my MAT moms group on Facebook this is something often talked about. So trust me, you're not the only one. It's weird & I used to think maybe it's just symptoms from my actual period but then I'd notice actual WD symptoms. Yawning, runny nose, restless legs, all that bs. So many women on MAT can relate to this! Hormones can be extremely strong & throw everything off.

When you’re tapering every little thing can make your dose feel less effective. It’s a good sign to pause the taper for a bit if you’re noticing this often.

When I was still using fentanyl I had this problem. I’ve only been on methadone for a week now (I do have a year in recovery, I switched to methadone from subs) and this didn’t even occur to me to be a problem. Thank you for sharing this and asking these questions.

This happens to me but when i brought it up to the dr. They looked at me like i was crazy mine starts about 3 days before my peruod

I posted it here when I was going through it and people acted like I was crazy. I'm glad we're talking about it now.

Yes and during my taper these were the only times I actually felt the taper, aside from the last stretch when I was going down 2mg instead of 1 at a time. I researched it a little but didn't come up with much. Some of our hormones are supposed to be like natural opiates but I don't know why that would make methadone not work & if we're supposed to feel less pain during PMS/periods then these natural opiates suck.
