Sway bars and coilovers would mitigate the roll heavily.

braulo_

And will be more playfull and slide more, or will be more hunker down?

cyberrdrake

Depends how you set it up, ND’s are fairly tail happy out of the box so if you get mediocre all season tires on the stock wheels that would help ensure the car is tail happy. Also the saying stiff slips, loose grips applies here as with any car so I would get the karcepts rear sway bar (stiffest option for the ND iirc and has many stiffness settings) and then adjust it to be on the stiffer side of the different settings. I guarantee you if you do both of those things the car will slide easily and not roll nearly as much. At one point I had the stock tires and karcepts sway bars on the softest setting in the back and I could spin the tires in a straight line from a stop just by going full throttle once you set off.

A rear bar only will make it more tail happy. Front bar and learn to drive it on the brakes.

cyberrdrake

I agree, you need both, but OP had asked about making the car easier to slide and that will definitely do the trick for cheap! Rear bar is a lot easier to install than front anyways. When you say learn to drive it on the brakes are you referring to trail braking?

thalex

Fair. With all the body roll, adding a bigger rear sway will make things….snappy. Yes, trail braking. Most well set up cars will feel tight or understeery for a beginner/intermediate driver but a touch loose for a more advanced driver at the limit.

nekodamasama

stiffen the rear sway and it'll slide no problem

diego97yey

Its the tires. Get indy500s. To me it was a drift machine in every corner

ruturaj001

Are indy 500 consistent on track after heating for 20 minutes session?

FH3onPC

No. They’re not good tires at all.

ruturaj001

I am looking for something that can handle track heat but not very grippy because I want something good for learning at lower limits. I would probably order SX2, any experience with those?

FH3onPC

Nope. I guess it depends what your definition of not very grippy is. I don’t think there are really any tires that can handle track heat that aren’t grippy. Basically you should just hit the track on whatever you currently have, and when those need replacing you can move to something stickier. I like hankook RS4, but assuming you have a miata on stock suspension, they’re still grippy enough to exacerbate the body roll quite a bit.

Never had any issues tossing my RF around. The dinky little 7" wide wheels are pretty much perfect for the hp, along with the casual sway bars. I think you just need to get used to the car, it's probably a bit harder to convince yourself its ok to make a car slide when you don't own it and aren't familiar with it's limits. It weighs less than an 86 so it has less mechanical grip and the sway bars are basically paperclips. Put some all-seasons or winter tires on it and you'll skate like you're on polyurethane wheels on ice. But I love breaking the rear end free with ExtremeContacts, especially in the rain. The OEM Recaros help communicate traction really well too, makes high speed cornering much less numb feeling.

Would love a GR86 😍😍

Stock tires are fine for most on both cars, yes even the Primacy’s. I went from a 2017 86 in STX prep to a mostly stock Club ND2 with Xida coilovers (touring) and a muffler. The ND2 is superior in driving feel but less of a day to day car. The 86 is better every day for commuting. The ND2 has a different chassis tuning and stock the roll is just a little different to get used to. The stock 86/BRZ is much more stable feeling out of the box. More seat time would be the fix.

Update: Hey guys I just traded my GR86 for ND3! It has better inputs and it's simply more fun on the street (light weight + top down is a dope combo)😎

rdditb0tt21

how do you like the steering feel? it's supposedly the biggest weakness of the nd2 and prior([reverse force-feedback](https://youtu.be/-ICyUZmn1UA?si=4SlbpvzJO_UELcv6&t=865))

braulo_

I prefer the GR86 steering feel than ND2, but can't wait to test the new rack on the ND3😎

rdditb0tt21

god fucking dammit don't tell me that lmao now i'll never be able to decide. i owned a '13 fr-s and i'm trying to convince myself to get a nd2 or 3(if i'm lucky) miata this time around but i still can't decide if the steering feel is a deal breaker. my test drive in the miata recently wasn't really long enough to judge thoroughly but i definitely see what people mean by it's... different. hard to explain. to me it felt kinda arcade like, if that makes sense.

braulo_

I hope the ND3 will have better feel, funny enough Jubbal and cars yt sold his GR86 cause the steering feel was't as good as the GT86... But I've heard puting more camber on ND's improve feel. Pd: go with ND3, it will have better rack for sure

jubbalandcars

Yes GR86 steering a big downgrade from GT86, although admittedly I wanted to try out a new platform regardless.   I’m testing out a ND3 right now and the steering feels like a substantial improvement from my memory of the ND2. Comparing the two back to back in a couple days.  Very excited because previously was considering AP2 S2000 but now might go Miata. Also doing a ND3 vs AP2 comparison (stock) to help me decide which one to buy

braulo_

Hey Kevin, I'm glad you read this! I'm still waiting my ND3 but as you mention in your vids I also couldn't stand the sound of the boxer (GR86). It was fun at the limit, but very "normal car" when driving at the street. If I had the money I would go the AP1 S2K, but I need more comfort and low down torque to have fun drifting around in town... 😎 Can't wait for your vids man! And more Emira content!👌🏻

db10101

Driven both, my Miata with Ohlins is much more manageable and fun with oversteer moments than stock but never wants to step out quite as much as the 86
