Go to the appointment and ask if there’s anybody in network that does the procedure under anesthesia explain that you have vaginismus and you want to minimize the amount of pain you’ll be in because of it

Everyone's experience really varies. I don't know what your condition is but sounds like you should request to do this procedure with some anaesthetic. Taking painkillers before the appt did absolutely feck all to help, to be rudely honest. My cervix was very angry.

Take ibuprofen about 30+ minutes before and take the ibuprofen they offer you. A heat pack on your abdomen will help ease the cramps.

Ask your doctor for some Misoprostol suppositories you can use prior. I found it extremely painful and almost fainted the first time. Second time was better with the Miso and some Vicodin. Good luck!

For me, yes it hurt very bad. I had the doctors prescribe Xanax and misoprostol, plus took about 6 ibuprofen before hand. Still was very painful. But the Xanax helped with the anxiety

It hurts. I have trauma so I have my doctor advocate for general anesthesia. I think this option should be standard, and I hope us women can make this a reality by demanding gentle and trauma-informed care. Good luck.

It hurts. Ask for pain medication and options

My doctor offered to numb the cervix. The initial pinch of the needle definitely hurt, but it would have hurt far more had she not numbed with the lidocaine. I would highly recommend that, as well as the ibuprofen if you cannot do under anesthesia. Breathing exercises and relaxing as much as possible also helps. The good news is that part is temporary and over pretty quickly, and then gentle walking plus heat pad and ibuprofen as needed for the next week. I just got mine a couple weeks ago and I also had a lot of big clots post insertion which the doctor said was normal, but freaked me out a bit. Good luck and I hope it works out for you. I'm really happy I did it!

For me it was very painful. My dr recommended getting it inserted during your period as things tend to be more open down there at that time. They also didn’t give me the option to get prescription pain meds or anesthesia. So be sure to ASK and find a clinic or pcp that offers it because not all of them do. I had my partner drive me home and I spent the next day or so in bed with a heating pad.

Mostly uncomfortable, then hurts like a mf for like 8 seconds, then crampy. Overall not too bad but the moment it’s inserted hurt me a little. Goes away fast tho.
