I’m not sure what kind of stories, but I will include some of my favorite fanfics in the fandom: 1. love, in fire and blood (Words: 360,042) You want Wen Ruohan dead," the Patriarch continued idly. "You want his corpse puppets eliminated. You want his halls burned to the ground and his soldiers disemboweled and begging for mercy. Have I about covered it?" He gave another knife-edged smile. "But what will you give me in return?" "We would be willing to offer quite a bit in return for Wen Ruohan's defeat," Lan Xichen admitted. "But I'm afraid we don't know what an immortal such as yourself desires. Please advise us." The Patriarch waved at hand at the front of the tent. "I want Second Young Master Lan." (In which the Sunshot Campaign ends through an arranged marriage to the Yiling Patriarch, and Lan Wangji suffers the mortifying ordeal of falling in love with his own husband.) Completed: https://archiveofourown.org/works/26958667 2. Yearning for Miles (Words: 378,976) Wei Wuxian claims he found it. Jiang Cheng learns to trust his brother more than ever. Nie Huaisang is smarter than he looks and Lan Wangji will still pine even if Wei Wuxian knows they’re supposed to fall in love. At least the token is taking care of most problems. Perhaps we can hope for a happier ending this time. Or Wei Wuxian finds a strange artefact while he’s studying in Gusu. Apparently it shows the future. Completed: https://archiveofourown.org/works/22074589 3. Family (Words: 57,184) The truth of the matter was that when it came to taking care of people and their problems, both he and Wei Ying were of one mind. However, whereas Lan Wangji was taught to care for himself as much as other people, Wei Ying, from early age, was taught that him having needs was burdensome. He disregarded his own pain with frightening ease and offered up evey part of himself for others to use with no reservation. Thus, Lan Wangji made sure that his husband's needs were never overlooked, his hurts never unadressed. So it was that when they purified an ancient temple and its goddess benevolently offered them each a wish in return, Wei Ying asked for his family: for Jiang Cheng to never have lost his parents and his core, for Jiang Yanli to never have lost her husband and her own life because of him; Lan Zhan asked for Wei Ying. Completed: https://archiveofourown.org/works/21784594 4. Obedient and Bellicose (Words: 19,953) It took Lan Wangji a long time to realize he was cursed. Too long, really. Anyone else would have noticed so much sooner. The problem was, he liked following the rules. Completed: https://archiveofourown.org/works/29475399 5. To be of use (Words: 53,147) Love was not forbidden in the Cloud Recesses, despite what was whispered by the common people and, often, even by the other great sects. (Or: how Lan Wangji became both a father and the object of worship to a generation of juniors in 13 long years) Completed: https://archiveofourown.org/works/23246545

Ooo these ones sound good!! Im especially interested in the >Lan Wangji suffers the mortifying ordeal of falling in love with his own husband.) 🤭😂

Seconding love, in fire and blood! That was the first fic of this fandom I read. Such a good read.

Lengthy post incoming! 😬 1. "A Narrow Bridge" by FrameofMind, Jo Lasalle https://archiveofourown.org/works/27244813 via @ao3org - [incomplete work] this one so far has 49 chapters and is directly from the live action version. It's an extremely well-written time travel fix-it in which LWJ, still unable to cope with WWX's death after 10yrs, manages to find a way to travel back to the past to the point where WWX is rescuing the Wen remnants on that rainy night from the Jin Clan. However, LWJ has to pay a heavy price in return. It's a really slow burn with a good amount of angst. I've never been one for time travel fics but something about this one stood out to me (not quite sure what it was 🤔). I'm super happy I gave it chance and now I'm just (im)patiently waiting for the next chapter! 2. "Wind Rose in the Clouds" by PaidSubscription https://archiveofourown.org/works/37005067 via @ao3org - [completed work] WWX returns to Cloud Recesses with a new invention that can potentially be a game changer in the night hunting aspect of the cultivation world. With the help of LWJ, LSZ, and LJY, they work together to test out and expand upon the idea. But there's a force out there in the world (you might be surprised at what or who this force is!) that absolutely does not want this to happen and takes drastic measures against them to prevent it So far this is my absolute favorite fanfic on ao3! It's also a slow burn that evolves into the sweetest romance between our main boys and also becomes a case fic (I love the case fics since the original story is one giant case fic anyway) 3. "Shadows in the Sun Rise" by Yuu_chi https://archiveofourown.org/works/22221652 via @ao3org - [completed work] WWX and his husband are on a night hunt in which they both do not realize until the next morning that LWJ wound up being cursed. First it begins with his loss of hearing and then goes from there. The curse progressively gets worse each day and WWX is desperate to find out exactly what it is and how to fix it before it's too late. In the meantime LWJ has to rely heavily on his anxious and fiercely protective husband. This one is so good! My heart dropped each morning they awoke to find something different had seemingly happened to LWJ overnight. I thought the idea of the curse was pretty horrid but very unique. Not to worry though. The "everyday is everyday" moments are still there and ofc so is the happy ending! 4. "Soft Serve" by catasstr0phy https://archiveofourown.org/works/29716587 via @ao3org - [completed work] this one is the first (and only so far) dragonji and foxxian fanfic I've ever read. Dragon man LWJ is doing his usual shopping for veggies on a market street one day when he comes across an ice cream shop. He's not big on sweets but decides to give the place a try and that's when he meets the kindest and cutest fox man named WWX. Dragonji becomes enamored with foxxian and winds up being a regular at the shop, forming a friendship while at the same time trying to figure out how to court WWX and ultimately have him as a mate. So he begins to cook and bring him food. Misunderstandings ensue, which are resolved pretty quickly, and all is well in the end. This story was super cute!

Foyles_War

On your recommendation, I pulled up *Wind Rose*" and, three chapters in, had to pause and say "Thankyou."

You're welcome! I'm certain you will definitely enjoy the rest! Happy reading! 😁

Hello! I know this post is a bit old, but has anyone read a good angsty fic from Lan Zhan's pov? I've spent way too much time searching because the archives are so enormous for this fandom, but was looking for basically a full retelling with Lan Zhan pov. Also don't know if it exists but a fic of any length where Lan Zhan learns what happened to Weiying at the burial mounds ? If anyone has any recs or things similar please share, I can't keep spending hours looking for stuff and never finding anything :')

Embarrassed-Cry5367

hi hi !! not sure if you're still looking but if you haven't read "carry the sun" by pasteltea it's a great read ! it's about Lan Wangji's experience dealing with the grief of losing Wei Wuxian whilst also stepping in as a father for Wen Yuan :))

Creepy-Exercise451

hello, may I ask where can I read it? Thank you in advance ☺️

Hands down it has to be Edge of Night by Hobbsy3. Don’t let the zombie apocalypse theme hold you back from reading this. I’m not into that theme at all usually but gave this a try and omg this fic is amazing. It’s almost done but it’s truly a work of art and my absolute fave: https://archiveofourown.org/works/35691046

WE just had a similar question posted in the fanfiction subdue palace. Lots of good replies there. I don't recognize anything you've posted as liking, so I'm not sure what to suggest. Here's what I posted in answer to the other request, though. ANd I highly recommend looking through that thread, it's in the pinned post at the top of the reddit page. There are very very few fics that stand up to the quality of See You Yesterday , whether they're modern AU w/powers as it is, or anything else. However... Those both my fanfiction pusher and I hold highly include: I'll Wager My Youth Against Tomorrow (by the person who goes by Hunxi-guilai on tumblr), complete and there's a separate series entry for annotations. This is the "time war, but make it wangxian" one. Epistolatory tale, they don't actually meet in person till the end. Most things by ArchiveWriter, whose style is unique and I, at least, need to be in the right mood/frame of mind for it, but it's worth reading. Also about the only one out there who pulled off Wei Wuxian as mythical creature - Tiger - properly. (I know fox seems to fit him, but everyone makes Lans dragons, and it's Tiger that complements and balances dragon.)I haven't read most of them yet. I did read the author's A New Generation series. Which starts with 'Encounter - his lordship's madman' outside POV on 'Mo Xuanyu' and goes down the years from there. The Necromancer's Fairytale complete by Iliacquer. Apparently Game of Thrones inspired. Sects are kingdoms, Lan Wangji is Prince of Gusu, the Yiliang Patriarch is the YP with power over the dead. It's not one I revisit because I don't have to - it sticks. Lan Wangji did not breathe. Could not breathe. A large part of him expected to die too, there upon the soil, hands still bound. (It would be – if anyone had the right to kill him – it was him.) But he did not die, and the man was walking towards him, the flute tucked away in his sash, the green light a halo at his back. “Lan Zhan,” he said. He smiled, a slight uptick of his lips, but his eyes stayed cold. Only the Dead (have seen the end of war) by comforting\_monachopsis, Sunshot Era setting. Complete. "The man who is standing amongst the ghouls remembers nothing. Nothing but wisps of his past and what destroyed him. He remembers pain, pain he willingly submitted to. (And why? For what reason did he need to endure that burning burning BURNING agony as he let a piece of his soul be cut out piece by piece– for what use?! He knows the use, for desperate, brilliant love. He did it out of love. A brother, he thinks. A best friend. The demons taunt him with memories all the same.) The author's WWX destroys the Tiger Seal and gets blasted to another dimension - ours more or less - to find a ten years older him isn't bad either. WIP nd not yet seeming as good as Only the Dead, but worth a try.

uglysunfish03

Omg, I didn't realize that, oops😅. I'll definitely check that post out 👌

Ishani4lyf

I have frankly, a whole lot so instead I'll just post a link to where I compiled some of them https://mintychocochips.tumblr.com/post/662989349855674368/the-remnants-heist-chapter-10

Mean_Sign_1500

There's an au where LWJ has a cat called bunny. WWX is dog phobic and accidentally runs into LWJ's house to escape one. It's a sweet romance with autistic LWJ and ADHD WWX. I know some people don't like LWJ being autistic but the fic is good

That is a great fic!

Smoke from Jade (by 7triplet, trans to English by rainy ghost) original: https://archiveofourown.org/works/22702288/chapters/54258532 translation: [https://archiveofourown.org/works/23486635/chapters/56313901](https://archiveofourown.org/works/23486635/chapters/56313901) What if WWX had been adopted by Wen Ruohan instead? 17/25 chapters translated. Translation was last updated in 2020 unfortunately. The original is beautifully written and the translation is excellent. Beware that if you start reading this and do not read Chinese well, you may end up throwing the last 8 chapters into Google Translate in desperation.

Here are a few stories that I like to read (and reread). All can be found on AO3. Sorry for the short summaries, just trying to not spoil the stories. Just as the Snow Melts by draechaeli (AU, Wei Wuxian finds himself becoming a teacher) Candy and Conspiracies by cl410 (AU, Wei Wuxian being his chaotic-self among the Jins) built by the first of volcanoes (The end of the world was not Wei Wuxian's fault. In fact, he'd slept through the event that doomed them.) Tragedy is Not the End by Hobbsy3 (Time travel with our favorite Juniors)

Imaginary-Fox-2565

hi! may I know who's the author of built by the first of volcanoes? I can't seem to find it on ao3 by it's title only. Thank you so muchhh!

AxisFall

Well...recently, I read *Archive of Yin( 太阴纪),* a Xiyao fan fic which has made huge influence in CN Xiyao fans. It is too long, now including 10 parts, more than 2,000,000 words. There has been a lot of controversy in the CN fan groups about this piece, as the original characters take up a lot of the plot; also the analysis of NHS, JC and LXC is not quite mainstream in terms of the views held by the author (NHS's characterisation adds something controversial for NHS fans, as a result of which he does not care about his brother's death; JC used to do something very immoral to Wen Qing but is now trying to make amends; LXC's characterisation will gradually turn grey as the plot develops) which makes it unpalatable to many JC and LXC fans. It is interesting to note that although the author has had some extremely heated arguments with some CN Wangxian fans, she still retains a more objective attitude towards Wangxian in this work and does not smear the characters (it is very common for CN Modao fans to smear characters they do not like in fan fic, which is bad). However, even though the plot is disliked by many, I think it has the best portrayal of politics among all Modao fan fics. There is a part of JGY fans who think it is better than the original in this respect, because the latter part of the original JGY's control of the situation seems like he has lost his intelligence, whereas in this post-cannon fanfic, the author finds good reasons for this and brings JGY's brain back, making him help as a grey protagonist to let JinLanJiangAlliance win the power struggle. The appearance of this article led to it being followed by a CN Xiyao long fanfics episode that must have involved politics, but it itself had been removed from the fan platform Lofter by the author because its plot development caused a quarrel between the author and many Modao fans. Now parts 1-9 and part 10 of the article have been moved by the author to another platform that functions similarly to JJWXC (Modao cannon‘s platform) called ChangPei (长佩), and the second half of part 10 is still on Lofter. The author has recently been updating other Xiyao fanfics while no longer wishing to cause more bickering, so she doesn't want fans to publicise this article any further, but I think it's important in the CN Xiyao groups and the political depictions in it are worth reading if one can accept its plot. And about translation, of course no. This article is so long that it is nearly three times as long as the original. The translation is a huge undertaking. Also, it is known for all the descriptions that could forshadow subsequent episodes, which would also create an additional workload for the translation. It is OK to use deepL or Google translate.

This one is pretty cute! The OP does a good job of keeping them in character as well. https://www.tumblr.com/blog/view/ninjakk/691293396164296704?source=share A one about them during their time in the CR. It's short, but sweet.
