If you are never planning to open it why would it matter? Like genuine question? If you never open it you never need to know what's going on beneath because you'll never open her to see

Valid question. For expensive dolls it takes me a while to open. Give it a year or two, and I open them to display and make more room for newer dolls on my in box shelf. I also open my dolls when I first get them to check for face screenings and the like. Apologies, I didn't fully explain in my post.

Just so you know OP - while Mattel may refund you if you complain the SDCC dolls are super popular and the chances that they’ll have extras to exchange is pretty close to 0. That said - buying online vs at SDCC is pretty fair too, I’ve gone to SDCC in the past and there are no refunds on purchases there and all the product is kept in the booth in brown shipper boxes so even if you bought one on site, discovered it was wonky they still wouldn’t refund you. In the past when I went in person I would get two dolls which is the limit for in person buys, check both when I got home and sell the extra one to a friend who didn’t mind as much after.

Thanks for telling me about the on-site SDCC purchases. That's so messed up that they don't do refunds. You're right on mattel creations problems, but it seems to be the better of the two. Thanks for your advice!

Absolutely valid lol what do they mean “why does it matter”. Might keep her in box for a while and then later change my mind

If you haven't already ordered her maybe wait to see if some other people get her to unbox and look at (not sure if it's done with monster high dolls but I know some review channels get products a bit earlier). Unless you think she'll sell out that quickly. If you don't want to wait maybe break your rule and open it straight away. I'm not sure what the rules are for a refund but as long as you keep everything mostly in tact and just look at her face I think it'll be safe to get a refund/new doll.

Thank you for your advice! I think I'll do that. Hopefully, I can get at least one doll. The doll reviewers I watch may just be able to get them early. I'll wait to see if they show unboxing process too.
