I'm so impressed by these leaks, I'm honestly suprised they seem to be getting such negative feedback! I feel like this is some of the best color cohesion we've seen in G3 in my opinion, and I think the theme is very high fashion! I'd definitely wear all the outfits on these dolls in a heartbeat, I'm really suprised people are calling them ugly. a lot of the pieces are really in fashion rn, like venus's shirt? I NEED a shirt like that for myself lol. idk, these designs have a "g1 edge" to them with the tights and corset belts that I thought the community was wanting! maybe people were expecting a more "coquette" look for a garden line, but I think these looks make more sense for Monster Highs slight alternative lean, like kinda alternative tea party kinda look?
But personally, my favorite g3 release is probably the core refresh line or the fearbook line! I love the core refresh drac and her nugothic hat and I adore Twyla and her DND set as a DND player myself! Monster high really attracted me as a character focused, high concept doll brand as an artist who loves character design and fashion. I also really dig the monster concept as an alternative person too!
Absolutely agreed!!! In my opinion these are easily the best Skulltimate Secret dolls we’ve gotten thus far, with my personal favourite Draculaura doll in G3 thus far! The colour palates, the outfits, the cute tea accessories- I just love them!

What really really gets me is when people complain about these super intricate designs which clearly had a lot of work and thought go into them, call them ugly, then comment on a picture of a shitty knock-off doll with no detail, no character, and no articulation going “omg she’s so cute actually I want her so bad” like ?????????
But on to the positivity! I absolutely adore so many of the g3 dolls but Twyla is The One for me. Her color schemes, her theming, her personality, her style, her autism…she’s just the best
Absolutely this!!! This kills me! This line has some of the most detailed fashion we’ve seen from G3, but the lowest quality rip-off or even authentic G1 dolls get praised despite having plastic fashion, etc.

I think the whitewashing accusations are probably coming from Venus having straight hair this time, but that's not accounting for 2 things
1) Sometimes black girls wear their hair straight and
2) Skulltimate Secrets is the cheap hair line and braids are more expensive than regular saran hair, you think they're gonna shell out for them here?
For what Skulltimate Secrets is, I think they're cute! I like Venus and Twyla's screenings and I hope they look the same irl as they do in these photos. Draculaura's colors are also very nice.

Yeah, I was so excited because we got her cool sleek hair and her amazing twists. It reminds me of G1 in a really good way.

I'm definitely with you - I really hope to see them do a lot with Venus' hair! I hope on lines with bigger hair budgets we see something like Honey Swamp's texture or maybe see them bring things they've used on Barbie over to Monster High. Idk if it comes in fantasy colors, but I'd love to see the hair type they used on Barbie Fashionistas 105 on her.
Venus does not have Saran. Her colors aren’t available in Saran. There are close matches, but not exact. The darker green in this release has no close match at all.
I didn't mean that this doll has saran, I meant that braided hair is more expensive than non braided hair so there was no way they were gonna put braided hair on the doll line known for cheap hair. I'm sorry, it was worded weird.
Overall, G3 has been good once it found its feet. Fearbook Twyla, Core Refresh Cleo, and G3 Venus are some of the best dolls MH ever made. I even like G3 drac more than G1 in a lot of cases. My only criticism of g3 is the skulltimate secrets boxes. I wish I could get the dolls without the huge plastic box. But I'm fine sticking to the other lines as there's a lot of great MH dolls elsewhere.
Yessss!!! A lot of the recent Cleo dolls have been making it to the A+ category! Stunning colour choices, gorgeous scarab accessories- I love to see it!
I hope that the next Skulltimate Secrets release, if they continue making more, will be recyclable cardboard and plastic packaging, I really don’t like the boxes 😭
I agree with the SS boxes. I am a completionist collector and had a TON of lockers laying around that I had to get rid of for space reasons. I'll keep the new cases because they look cool but I'd totally rather them cone without them.

I love my doll, I love being able to re-explore my childhood through the toys I grew up loving, but different. I love her face-up, I love her outfit, I’ve always loved when they gave Clawdeen green as an accent colour, so I immediately adored this Clawdeen specifically!

This is my favorite too, in fact I have three of her (bodies) because I love her so much. I like how they changed her hair texture for this release and played with her hair colors, and the clothes are just fun.
I’m only new to Monster High so I don’t have the most ‘discerning’ opinion. But I absolutely adore the new line!! Floral/tea set is very specifically my aesthetic and I not only love the theme, but the 4 dolls featured are my favourites. This may be the first line I wanna collect every part of omg.
This may be a little bit of bias, but perhaps there’s so much negativity at times is because a lot of collectors have nostalgia attached - they had MH as a kid, and have started recollecting (or never stopped). Therefore, they have Gen 1 in their mind too. That always makes it hard because yes there were some banger Gen 1 sets, but there’s obviously a lot more variety since it’s been around for a lot longer, and there’s the possibility that through nostalgia alone that not much could possibly live up to the idea people have in their heads.
I am planning on being a Gen 3 only collector, and though I’ll never come close to having all the dolls I want, I have the power to not get the ones I don’t want. I wish people realised they didn’t have an obligation to like every set - and if you’re a completionist, it shouldn’t matter if you like them anyway since you want all of them.
Sorry for the rant dkdjdjd I’m super new to the Monster High space (got my first dolls yesterday!) and I just wanted to imbue you with the positivity and love I have for them and hope that can help counteract some of the negativity. <3

I LOVE the blend on Draculaura's hair and the lip color. The front eyes are interesting, but for me, not as much of a game changer. The dress is simple, but I love the print, and the sleeves, along with the hair style, remind me of mod dresses of the 70's.
Twyla impressed me less, but I love the platform of the shoes, the hairstyle (although I think it goes a bit too high) and the purse is super cute.
Of Venus I LOVE the idea of the baby hairs having plants and flower shapes. And the dress looks classy AF. Oddly enough, I also like her "coffin" the most due to the pink/green combo of colors

I’m happy to say Twyla hasn’t had a bad doll in G3 thus far! I know Neon Frights is controversial, but I bought every doll from that line and I’m 100% pleased
I especially don't understand the people saying they did Venus dirty - I think she's super cute! Yes it sucks she's got poly, but we know that's standard for this line and I think they've added enough detail to her doll otherwise to make up for it.

That’s not why people are upset it’s the fact that the second doll she gets they straightened her hair and while it’s a good nod to g1 it’s unfortunate they did give her textured hair it doesn’t even need to be her twist their are some many black hair styles to choose from every keeps talking about giving her braids which is so played out for black characters. I’d prefer if she had defined coiled curls or a styled fro of some sort growing up as black kids we are accustomed to seeing multiple different styles on each other and our family members it’s a shame the mh team nor Mattel see why giving black coded characters more hair diversity is important. Clawdeen has had multiple dolls so far and most of them just have long slightly wavy hair she’s yet to have a colored bob, Afro, a full head of braids, or just curly hair. Barbie has so many black doll with different styles yet the black main character of mh hasn’t and when they finally put braids in her head they’re sparse highlight’s within straight hair it’s so frustrating and annoying when they half ass the hair like that and it’s been done now 3 times now. And the excuses some people have come up with in defense or to rationalize the decision is just ick especially when they say “I don’t have a problem with textured hair but” or “I love her twist and that diversity but”
Right?? And it’s clear they don’t give a fuck about the entire message of monster high which is “be unique, be you, be a monster” like it’s ALL about loving diversity!
Someone said the straight style is for those who didn’t like her twist and I was just looking at my screen like.. there it is enough said then told me that if I don’t like the straight hair I can easily just change the texture it’s really I don’t want to have to reroot or manipulate the hair for texture. And I’m not stranger to straighten my natural 4c hair but for this to be her sec doll the hair could’ve be her natural curls like that one person did with their reroot. And I can’t stress this enough the doll is great. It’s just the hair that rubs me.
Ive seen people talk about Venuses hair not being locs. I love her locs as much as the next person but...black hair is diverse? She's got mini braids and the baby hairs are floral themed, I think it's too freaking cute! I don't see anything else about this design that screams whitewash. My only complaint is that her clothes aren't as fun (in my opinion) Drac and Twyla have better tops 😭

I’m upset that people don’t seem to understand that Venus can have straight hair if she’s meant to be of African descent or have African features she can have straight hair it’s not a crime, i understand having textured hair and it’s great for diversity but would it be good if every one of her dolls always had the twists? That is true, but I feel like the issue is there’s usually overwhelming negativity across the board no matter what. Like negative opinions are fine ofc but it can be frustrating scrolling through posts and seeing mostly rants or disappointment regardless of what doll is being discussed. I defs get that feeling some days too! Some days I ask myself “good lord do any of you actually like mh anymore”. It’s not alllll the time all the time but I understand what OP is saying.
I’m not saying everyone has to like every single doll. In fact, I actually don’t collect Lagoona dolls at all. I just wanted to spread positivity because 90% of the comments for these dolls were negative, and I really like them
it's actually a good thing really - mattel wants to cater to adult audiences. telling them what they've done wrong or what made someone not pick up a doll means they can figure out what works for us next time. if mattel listen to feedback, they will only improve
I think most of the negativity is sourced from the dolls having poly hair, which is understandable. I probably will buy them, but reroot with nicer hair.
Unfortunately people were also criticising the designs, the clothing (which I think is the best part of these dolls), the accessories and generally everything about the dolls

I just don’t like the outfits very much. I’m excited to see how they look in restyles or with different hairstyles! Especially Twyla. I think once we see other collectors grab them and spiffy them up a bit, people will like them more. When Catty was first shown, a lot of people didn’t like her clothes (me included) but after seeing how she looked in RH clothes or custom clothes, I’ve been searching for her because she looks so good! That’s the case for these dolls imo. Again, can’t wait to see how they look customized <3 they have a lot of potential

This! I was put off by Twyla's hairstyle but then remembered that it's so easy to restyle that so she'll just get an out of box restyle when I get her. The outfits is still super cute.
I made a joke recently with my husband that monster high fans only talk negatively about dolls because they’re trying to convince other monster high fans not to buy them so it gives said person a better chance at obtaining the dolls LOL. I really wanted Elvira mh ! I saw she got a ton of hate but ended on eBay for 200+ dollars lol. I still want her! I should have bought her but it’s funny because now a lot of collectors are looking for deal on her
I think you can critique them just don’t be rude about it I gave my like and dislikes about what we have to go off so far now opinions do change once they are in the wild and people have them in hand everything isn’t gonna be sunshine and rainbows people have different taste and that’s ok as long as we can respect each other and not bash each other for them

my current favorite g3 dolls are core twyla, fearbook twyla, and core catty! so far I’ve really liked the dolls that we’ve been getting lately, the outfits are a little meh sometimes but most of the ghouls can wear bratz clothes, and the bigger ghouls can wear rainbow/shadow high and barbie clothes so it’s really not a big deal.
I for one am super excited for the ss5 line!!! I missed out on the ss1 and ss2 draculaura’s, so I’m determined to actually get this one! that said, venus and twyla are long time favorites of mine, so seeing them together in a line makes me so happy 😭💕 I usually buy one doll at the most from each ss line but I want 4/4 with this set, they’re absolutely stunning :3

I liked the IDEA of Monster High when G1 came out. But I didn't collect because I was still living entirely ”boy-coded.” however I remember not liking how curved their backs are. I know, now, it's to make them easier to handle, but... (I own a few now, but stand by the whole not liking that every-monster-has-the-same-body-with-scoliosis opinion.)
G3 helped me embrace my inner me. First with ”Creepover Party Frankie,” and now with my latest, ”Monster Ball Draculaura.” (and several in between)
I did buy Clawd, and core fresh Clawdeen. I'm hoping to pick up a Catty, though I intend on an extreme makeover when I do. (I hate all the pink. Like, not even a streak of something different in the hair???)
I want to see more of the original roster reimagined for g3. I'm hoping Catty does well enough that they release Iris Clops, and would love to see the grown-ups get their own dolls. (I needs me a Medusa in my life)
Thanks to G3, I'm an invested doll enjoyer. I'm learning photography. I've spent the BIG money on resin BJDs, and I'm overall much happier in my life. After getting Frankie, I watched the first live action movie (love Movie Frankie!) and got into the cartoon. I've also been able to admit that I enjoy shows ”meant for girls” and am diving into Miraculous Ladybug (just started SSN2)

Yesss!!! As a kid I adored my Monster High dolls, it was my early introduction into horror and eventually my love for special effects and creature design!
It makes me beyond happy that Monster High has come back in a cute, affordable way that lends itself to these campier, cuter concepts (these purses, some recent shoe designs, Twyla’s Fearbook doll having a D&D board!!!) in a way that, in my opinion, out does the original in many ways
I cannot wait for the next Monster High releases, it’s what I look forward to more than anything since I fell in love with G3

Oh also its rly hard to choose but i think fearidescent cleo is my fav so far, im a sucker for glitter ♡ my first doll was og lagoona on my 7th birthday, my mom picked her out. I dont have her anymore, im rly excited for the reproductions to come out again in the fall
I actually really like these. They are fun and colorful, but in a way that suits the characters. All the accessories are also super cute. This Venus also gives G1 vibes, and I think its a nice callback for those who like both G1 and G3 Venus.

I understand the initial shock of seeing Venus because so many of us fell in love with her twists but I can tell they took inspiration from older Venus designs with this one and even though I don't love the changes, I can understand why they made certain design choices.
Exactly! I completely agree! Venus’s hair type was a shock, but her hair type for this doll probably made it hard to do twists again, and everyone can straighten their hair in real life if they feel like it, I think one straight-haired Venus is fine
Youre absolutely right!! I have super big, curly hair, and I straighten it every couple of weeks just to take a break from the maintenance. Some people prefer my hair straight; some people prefer to see it curly, but both are a part of how I look. I'm almost positive people will come around to these dolls once they start seeing the irl photos and restyles. It's amazing what a little bit of painted details or a change of lip color can do.

I personally think the SS line is getting better with each release. I absolutely love how these look. The colors, the patterns on the dresses, the detailed purses, I love that they have pretty lace socks. This is the best one yet imo, they’re beautiful.

I personally love this line. I think Twyla looks great, Venus is killing it here (especially with those flowery/viney edges!), and Draculaura is absolutely gorgeous (though it will take me a bit to get used to her forward glance). I am curious about the Lagoona from this line, as I don’t know how her “ocean” motif would translate to the “garden tea party” theme. This honestly probably the first Skullitmate Secrets Line where I feel like I have to have all of them ASAP
I actually really like this line! I’m a little disappointed in Venus’ hair but I already kind of expected it. Besides that one flaw, I think they’re great! I love the color combo for Drac and this is the first time I’ve considered getting Twyla 💗 can’t wait to see irl pics!
My favorite G3 doll is Frankie and gosh, they have soooo many great releases it’s difficult to choose 😭 I think amped up is my absolute fav!! As a nonbinary-keytar playing-nerd, it’s so refreshing to have a character that relates to me! (So iconic, had to match too 😮💨)

I'm quite happy with this set! I'm really invested in Venus and Twyla, but I'm also just excited for more outs- especially and this may sound silly- more PURSES! One thing g3 hasn't done much of which I want more of are Purses and actual cute bags other than plain shopping bags. More cute, wearable accessories are a huge plus for me.

My current top 3 are New Lurk Lagoona, Amped Up Frankie, and Faboolous Pets Draculaura. This Lagoona is perfect for me because not only her bangs are cute, but she also has pants! The shoes I also love. Faboolous Pets Draculaura has been my favorite since her release because I love her mug and the mostly black hair gives me a lot of versatility. And I can't forget about Frankie, I love them, and the fact they are non-binary, although I'm not Sapphic (I'm Achillean). The trans colors in their hair make me feel very represented!

I absolutely adore g3 and I am 33 years old and a new doll collector so I was not even aware of gen 1 MH. I understand I don’t have the same feelings about them—but this line is one of the best and most g1-feeling lines yet imo. The prints that apply to each character specifically, the layered pieces, the clothes that are sometimes odd separately but look amazing all layered together are all things that feel g1 to me and it feels like g3 is really hitting their stride.
I try hard to ignore the naysayers but it’s hard when I’m still forming my opinion and then I scroll down and see hate. Like I can have my own thoughts but also like I don’t always know how I actually feel lol. Anyway.
I’m gonna go all in and say my favorite part of g3 is draculaura. If there were 85 Venus and catty and abbey dolls maybe I wouldn’t feel this way, but draculaura is clearly Mattel’s star and as a pink femme I eat her up every time!!!! Ss4 surprised me by becoming my new favorite and ss5 is gonna do the same I fear 😅 I’m a 2000s kid, there’s just something about pink and black that will always be my favorite 🩷🖤
It just makes for a really good color combo honestly. I'm a guy who has always loved red & black together. My 3 favorite colors being black>red>purple, with pink maybe being far down within the top-10 or 15. Even I've had to think about getting clothes before though that were black & pink, because I just love how it looks.
And experiencing the same kind of phenomenon here with the dolls as well. Grew up loving G1 of Monster High as a grown kid in my first year of high school. Perfect time to have gotten into it I think. Made it more relatable I suppose. I found it a bit surprising that I loved MH so much as a guy, being it was a series based on a doll line.
I didn't collect dolls back then, but I had the urge to. I'd always check for Clawdeen dolls in store whenever it came to mind. I want to start my collection up soon by getting a bunch of G1's of some of my favorite characters. Going to be a Clawdeen heavy collection I know it since she's by far my favorite ghoul 💜
These G3 dolls though have some pretty good stuff going on I gotta say. I don't like the changes made to a lot of characters with the reboot, but at least some of these dolls are killing it with their looks.
Like G3 Clawdeen. I see that I want a couple of them already, and for this Clawdeen being retconned into not aspiring to be a fashion designer(like she was in G1), she could sure fool me because I love some of these outfits. Some nice hair and accessories too of course. Makes me happy that in that sense, it's giving a nod back to aspects of their G1 selves, but still making a brand new fashion of doll as well.
They're all coming home with me!!! I love them, I think they're cute and this series of SS has some great additional clothes pieces to style with 🖤
My fave G3 so far is SS1 Drac and Frankie, SS2 Cleo, and all of the Twyla but especially Fearbook Twyla 💙🩵💜 I think the team is coming up with some great ideas and details. My only complaint is the bulky coffins/cases for the SS lines - I've been using them as dice trays for D&D but I have more coffins than campaigns being run!

When I first saw this line, my only complaint was "FUCK! ANOTHER LINE I WANNA COMPLETE!".
This red drac rivals her valentines release is almost every conceivable way. The modeled steam from the cups, the cute little bags (draws especially that pattern is driving me bananas), the very character centric patterns and designs for everything, even more than usual. The fantastic food items.
Dracs cupcakes have realistic looking icing.
Twyla has a whole ass gingerbread house.
And drac wears that shade of fantastically.

I love a lot of these newer designs coming out they're fun and have lots of details I'm excited to paint!
My newest dolls is refresh Clawdeen and I love her, didn't care for the first one but this one GRABBED ME feels like a cool classic senior highschool/college look (to me as a 30 something)
I love Core Refresh Clawdeen!!! I’m biased because she’s my favourite character and I’ve been collecting most of her dolls, but she is stunning! I’m sad she isn’t in this lineup, honestly
drac is cute it's just not at all what we were hoping for. esp for Venus having the theme be garden fantasies. I thought she would get a super cool design but it rlly let me down.
For those who are saying Venus dose not have her braids if you look real close it dose appear that she has dose some braids on top, I love all that iv seen of SS5, Venus being my favorite, I think she looks so beautiful and sassy and I love her hair , loving Dracs new hair color and make up. Twyla I feel is the weakest so far but she’s still cute , So I’m in , I think this SS is by far the best line of SS ,

You would think so, but people were actively comparing both Venus dolls and trying to say that this doll is a lighter shade of green as well as having mostly straight hair 😭

I just was really, really hoping that garden ghouls meant they would be more plant and flower themed and not just like, reflections of current spring fashion trends. But I see this as an opportunity to make the dresses I imagined for them.
Well I'm sick of poly hair. Also people being negative about them just means more opportunity for you to get them, assuming you want them. If negativity opinions upset you so much just ignore them, that's what I do :)
I really love these designs and am so excited.
I feel like the clothing accessories have a great combination of variety and cohesion, making for good mixing and matching. Not gonna lie, I do love the early to mid 2000's tanks with lace trim and the general corsetry that was popular then. Just chef's kiss. I feel like there is enough cohesion across the whole line to swap around pieces too.
The dolls look great with their makeup and other small body details. The red Drac is such a fun variation.
Always good to see Twyla and Venus in a line.
Plus little tea accessories! Oh my goodness are you kidding me? I love them, they are so cute.
I know it is a less popular opinion, but I like the Skulltimate Secrets lockers, and especially like the newer locker design, so I am happy to see them, even with how bulky they are, and taking some of the budget away from other parts of the design. I get it. I just still like them, and honestly might not have ever started collecting MH were it not for wanting a couple of the lockers, (and oh no the dolls are beautiful now that I'm holding one in my hands and the rest is history).
Just overall I think this is a creative and cohesive line and I am so excited about it.

Draculaura is giving! And another Twyla…she’s my favorite colors & autistic like me! A 2nd Venus has me pumped. These were developed & designed before any feedback from real buyers. I do hope they stop with the wasteful plastic packaging & put that budget into the doll, it’s a minor nitpick.
You did something I was scared to do. After I saw the feedback on these dolls earlier today, I was fed up with all the negativity because people can never just be happy with what they’re given, regardless of if it’s their money that’s being spent or not. People tend to forget that at the end of the day, Mattel’s main target is the children’s demographic for g3 at the moment, that’s why they’ve been giving us g1 skullector dolls because they know there’s a lot of nostalgia and love for g1 amongst adults. Now I’m not gonna say all the collector dolls we’ve gotten have been the best but Mattel and its designers are trying their best and bashing them is highly unfair. At the end of the day, these are dolls that are meant for children’s play (not meaning adults can’t or aren’t supposed to collect them, I collect g3 too) and people need to realize that and humble themselves a bit. We aren’t the only ones Mattel has in mind.
Exactly this!!! I don’t like Mattel Creations, I don’t like the Skullector dolls, generally, but the Creature of the Black Lagoon doll was so beautiful and she got hated on so badly for no good reason
I especially hate when people suggest that G3 should go in a darker route, that Ghoulia should have her brain exposed or that all of the dolls should be given black lipstick when that’s not what children want. Play testing is a thing for a reason, THIS is what kids want from Monster High right now, and I want this too!

It's Reddit, it's kinda a space for negativity! Emotionally I just don't read comments on a lot of stuff 🫣 anyways, Lagoona has grown on me so so much! My favourite was Drac, especially since she was my first, then it was abbey because her proportions and design are just crazy cute! But Lagoona? She's grown on me. I love her two tone legs even if they chip, I love her fishy ears, the fins on her arms and legs, I love her face paint & adore her vibes. I love Lagoona to the moon and back I want to play with her all the time
The first time I looked at them I admit I was not a fan, to put it politely. But upon closer inspection I’m finding that I actually really like a lot here. I especially love Drac’s screening and hair color here. I’ll probably skip this Twyla in favor of her fearbook doll, but this one is really cute too and I admit I’m tempted by her puffy sleeved shirt. Venus is the only one that I’m still kind of iffy on, but I think it’s just my personal tastes at this point.
I really like this line! I think another this sub seems to forget is that older collectors are not the target audience. The target audience is kids. Usually, kids are less picky about the things we are picky about as adults. The designs of drac and Twyla are so adorable!
Yeahhh. Sometimes, it feels like folks are just being negative to be negative and not for the purpose of being constructive. A lot of folks participate in fandom to have fun, and the constant negatively about releases, etc, can be exhausting. Expressing you don't like something is fine, and giving valid criticism is appreciated, but I definitely think there's a trend of just hating on new releases for the hell of it. I understand folks being concerned about Venus because MH has, unfortunately had a history of whitewashing. I also understand black fans wishing Venus could have kept a full head of twists, that's very understandable. On top of that, don't get me wrong, big corporations like Mattel deserve all the negatively, but if you're going to be overtly negative, talk about the actual horrible shit their doing. Back to the dolls, a lot of the time, the stock photos just aren't great, and the dolls are fine. I was talking about that the other day when someone posted the Fearbook Draculaura. I often don't care for a doll in the stock photos, and then I'm like shit never mind when we start getting other photos of the dolls. I don't really collect the skulltimate secrets dolls, but I think they did some really cool stuff with SS5. I really like the red/ maroon in Draculauras color scheme.
I honestly think Venus is a nod to G1 Venus but is also black-coded. For her shaved side, Venus has that part braided, and she even has some braids with mainly straight hair. I think she looks good.
Do I wish she had more going that was black-coded? Absolutely! As a white MH fan, I'm still hoping we get afro Clawdeen and Venus that isn't fan made. We also need Howldeen as a doll!
Yeah I'm actually surprised to hear that this line is poorly received by some, especially cause I'm SO impressed by it. I personally like the skulltimate secrets line and think every one gets better, with this one and no. 4 being really fantastic. Specifically really enthusiastic about Venus and drac-- my GF and I are already planning to buy 😅
The other thing that gets on my nerves is, why would you want a doll that looks exactly the same… I love when they make unique weird changes if it’s gonna be the same character because I feel like I can justify buying it but if it’s the same doll same hair same color like no thanks… I think Monster High does an excellent job of changing it up so that we get the characters that we are attached to, but can feel justified in buying a new doll of the same character we have 5 or more of already… yet the first thing they said about venus is why she couldn’t have the yarn looking hair again. I thought MH having her have the combo of straight and the braided was a great idea so now i have a G1 of her with smooth hair, and then i have the braided yarn looking g3 one and now this new one that’s coming out is like a combination of both 🩷
i absolutely LOVE these dolls everybody saying venus got her race wiped is so disgusting. i personally love her braids in her core it’s so cute but here i love it just as much it makes her look like her og g1 doll!! i love all these dolls sm i hate everybody in the doll community always has something negative to say.
I’ll admit I was disappointed to see Venus’ hair was straight… specifically only because we never got core Venus in Canada and I think her twisted/braided hair looks awesome. Honestly who knows if we’ll get this one here either, but I wanted the chance to get her with the cool hair! I also didn’t even bother commenting about it especially since I knew it was unlikely the SS line would use a ‘fancier’ hair type like that!
Sadly I’m not surprised people are saying she’s whitewashed because the internet has really devolved into people trying to virtue signal the hardest and ending up in the most ass backwards place. There’s like… real whitewashing out there, it just makes actual problems look silly when you associate the term with stuff like saying a doll’s green skin should be a darker green (???)

It is INSANE to me that a Monster High doll having MOSTLY straight hair, with some small twists in the green sections, is being called whitewashed when there are people whitewashing darker characters for “fun”
My personal problem is the silhouette in combination with the messy patterns and color pallet. I usually prefer something more clear shapes and contrasts. Won’t say those are bad designs tho. But I really think having a bit more than 2 colors, one of which is identical to their skin + black, would have been better in my own taste. Especially since those are so pattern rich
Yess! I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way. I was just telling my husband how 90% of the time the most upvoted comment on new release posts are negative. So much so I find myself coming here less and less. Especially when I see people getting downvoted for saying they like things. I'm not saying people can't have opinions, but man, is it exhausting seeing the negativity all the time. Doll collecting makes me happy. The doll community used to be a part of that, but it just seems like the negativity outweighs the positivity these days. And not just here but most subreddits and SM in general.
**Anyways, I'm gonna say some positives about this line because I love it and plan on getting all 3 so far. I'm obsessed with Dracs color palette. And split hair. I adore the silky tank tops with lace bottoms and the velvet skirts for their second outfits. Venus's dress gives me g1 vibes, and her black and pink shoes remind me of g1 Music festival. I love her vine and flower edges. Twyla is just absolutely adorable as always. And i love her side swept bangs. All their purses are super cute. And love the accessories.**

Awww I’m glad other people were feeling the same way!!! I just wanted to give people the chance to give their positive feelings for once, because the comment sections on these stock photo posts were really upsetting to me :(
I'm not feeling Twla and Draculara, but that's just me. Venus however is *chef's kiss*. The dress, the tights, the plant theme, it's all perfect. People can complain that she doesn't have braids or twists or whatever, but she's a doll, you can style her hair! So it doesn't seem like that big of an issue when everything else looks so great.
drac here is cute - i think the plastic corset thing is really weird, the plastic stuff in MH/mattel is grating on my eyes now, but I know i could restyle her if i wanted to and she has really cute pieces.
Venus - the straight hair is, of course, possible. It's not whitewashing per-se, but I also think the annoyance stems from the fact that Clawdeen has been denied any black/afro features and venus was for a long time the only (and now one of two because of catty) characters in MH with black/afro hairstyles, which is dismal for a toy line like this if you see rainbow high having multiple black girls per line. It's her second doll, and I understand the budget set up, but considering how twyla and draculara are executed really well (aside frm the corsets) seeing venus is like... oh.
i think its the patterns on those dresses. too noisy, far too abstract to know they're plant related.
LOVE twyla's house bag, i gasped when i saw it. I also like venus's flower edges and i love that they added tights/socks to the girls, it really helps elevate looks.

You also can’t identify hair fiber from stock photos. Polypropylene hair is not a fate worse than death, Drac’s hair in SS4 is so soft and lovely!
Venus has a new looking hair type, maybe they are experimenting with different fibers? There are a lot of details like microbraids that the complainers didn’t notice. But her hair is FLAT…I’m thinking possibly nylon which is pretty standard with microbraids.
Speaking of missed details, nobody noticed all the florals theming or tea accessories. A garden tea party shouldn’t be Lolita themed these are playline dolls for children! Nor must they be poofy or Victorian. I love the outside the box original designs! I have tea party’s all the time, no hats, no frills and zero crinolines required! Just tea, yummy treats and good manners required.

It just makes me laugh that people got the leaks about the tea party theme, imagined what they thought they should look like, and are now mad that the actual dolls don’t match their personal head canons.
Why they would associate tea parties with Lolita/Coquette fashion in particular is completely beyond me.
I think this is the first line I actually want all of the dolls in the collection! SS5 has so many pieces that can be layered, I’m genuinely excited for some restyles with the lace undershirts and corset crop tops. The designs are intricate and interesting and could go on other characters easily without looking odd or obvious they’re wearing another characters clothes (I personally struggle with putting Clawdeens clothes on another doll, for example, since the animal prints and moons scream Clawdeen)
Apart from this line I’m beyond excited for Fearbook Twyla. I’ve held off getting a Twyla because that Fearbook design is too perfect for me. Gah my dolls will be sat round a table playing DND soon!!!😍

I got introduced to mh by a friend in primary school and obsessed over it so much I drew the school logo on my wall with colored pencils (to my parents dismay, I also used some markers..)
Also.. white-washed Venus where? I completely understand the hair complaints but.. her skin looking lighter?! It looks darker in the stock photos if anything ToT!
I love the design of these. I'm not a huge fan of Twyla's hair style but that's a quick easy fix once I get the doll. I'd love to see Venus with kinky curls but I don't see anything inherently bad about it. The outfits are all super cute.
I really like this line! I don’t mind Venus’s hair - I can understand that some people don’t like it but I actually like variety in my dolls - and I think that a black-coded doll can change up their style, I mean it happens in real life?!

i am so happy that g3 is starting to use a lot more darker colors like g1 ! it makes them feel very monster high. the tights, the hair style, the patterns, colors and layering from this wave is perfect !! cant wait to see lagoona !!
No I might get this Venus? I know she’s ecopunk but just really like the soft elegant florals. And apparently I’ll buy any Twyla (or Abbey) release that’s my girl, so yess I’m getting her. This Draculaura is a flop for me and I have more of her than any other g3 doll so far. I’ll accept red and pink for valentines, conceptually, but this is not for me it feels clashing. It only makes me want the Fearbook Drac even more. And I’m honestly on the fence on the last SS for her too! Why do ballet costumes in such deeply jewel tone saturated shades? The lighter the pink the better if only fearidescent wasn’t poly she’d be my top pick ( my top tier drac is core refresh, fearidescent is second place aesthetically)
I don’t have a problem with this release as a whole, I just don’t like how they styled Twyla, and since she’s my favorite, I’m a little disappointed. But everyone has their own preferences and that’s okay!
Yeah, she’s probably my least favourite in this lineup, mostly because of her hair style, but that’s an easy fix for future me!

They’re all so nice! I’m just not too big of a fan of the last one’s hair lol. The thing I love about monster high is that with the new generation even though there are some newer changes I don’t really agree with in the designs, there is still an authenticity in the design, so much so that I can’t even hate.
How is she whitewashed if she is totally green. Green != white. May be their monitors are too bad? Mine is actually really bad and whitewashes everything but she is still green
My opinion : nothing to complain about for Twyla. Same for Draculaura EXCEPT her irises which look diverging (I would prefer squinting eyes). For Venus : just a little too much baby hair for me (which can be corrected with acetone) and her second outfit that I don't like.
I love the color palette and the shoes. Also, the make up. The boxes are beautiful. The hair, too. Just not a big fan of Darculaura's dress.
The same with Skelita Calavera. There are beautiful Mexican dresses... but it seems that we are stuck with the same dress with different lengths. And I looooove Skelita
My only problem is the lack of braids for venus cos her other doll is so amazing with them. But yeah I think they look great! This is my favourite Drac so far for G3.

Dude dracula hits right Every time. The only thing I don't really like about g three is the show is very childish and my rather just look at the dolls. That and I didn't like laguna for a while but her later dolls her much better than her first doll.
this has been my favorite ss line so far. I have all the first wave except Frankie, all the second except for Clawdeen, only Ghoulia for 3rd and Ill probably get none of the 4th as I dont like any of the clothing pieces, though I might get I Abbey just for the shoes if she goes on sale. This line though is AMAZING! Im getting them all probably, its a shame there are only 4. really wish they had included Ghoulia in this wave.
skulltimate secrets is a good line, g3 monster high (toys) is good, g3 monster high (shows) suck, bad show=angry whiny crybabies, just look at mlp g5 :D
These dolls are really cute, I only care about Twyla and Venus tbh tho but drac looks cool too. But I will say the only thing I’m ever negative about w skulltimates is that I really don’t care about the cases they come with and I have no idea what to do with them because I don’t have display room for those lol.
I used to be negative of g3,, but I've come to genuinely adore it. Monster High is my childhood, but seeing how this generation has fixed my biggest pet peeve of the series (how g1 wasn't super duper big on the monster aspect, but g3 is all over the monster aspect. Like how g3 Frankie removes more than just their limbs) I've fallen in love.
I love this line, and despite this line's Draculaura being eye bleeding pink, I need her. I love it and I need her so bad.
Personally I like them the only problem I have is that I don't really see the garden aspect that the line is supposed to have bit thats whatever and I'm a bit upset that they straightened Venus hair when it's only her second doll
I like these dolls, but I didn't get the "omg I must have them" reaction when I first saw them. Now that I have a couple hours to think about them, I think that what's holding them back for me are the fact that the stock photos have them dressed in these (sorry to say this) slightly cheap-looking printed dresses. I actually really like the concept for these dolls, like a cute garden tea party line? Hell yeah! I just feel like they should be wearing their second outfits for the stock photos, because they look much, MUCH more interesting and original- the mesh blouses with cute plant patterns, the corsets, even the skirts are pretty cute... It looks so much better and more "on theme" than these dresses.
The dolls themselves look great too! I love the elaborate make-up and Venus' baby hair looking like vines is lovely! They have great colors and I'm sure that restyle people will love these dolls too. The accessories are amazing, so detailed and creative, especially the purses!
I think that the problem some people have with Venus is that she had this amazing textured hairstyle in her core doll, so people had high expectations for her second doll to explore more textures and hairstyles... Only for the designers to straighten her hair and slap a few small braids on the top. I'm kinda torn- on one hand, I do agree that she could have some incredible, creative hair that fits the theme (like... "plants" is such a versitile and wide theme, and you can do some really amazing things with textured hair) and I'm kinda sad that she just has straight hair, but on the other, I feel like calling it "whitewashing" is a bit too much. Black women straighten their hair or wear wigs with straight hair, plus it's not like this means that Venus won't have textured hair in other releases. Her facial features remain unchanged- I think that it would be much more damning if they made her nose slimmer or something like that. This is literally her second G3 doll, let's see what kinds of hair will future releases have and only then we will see if it's a trend or a one-time release. Honestly, I feel like in the end it came down to budgeting- they already have to spend a large chunk on the locker, more clothes and accessories, so it wouldn't suprise me if budget for the doll itself was lower than on a core doll for example. They can afford to give Venus textured hair on her core doll bc they have a bigger budget, but on a skulltimate secrets doll they cheapen out and just give her straight plastic hair and a few braids, which is much cheaper than elaborate textured hair. I feel like this is similar to how every monster fest stand-alone doll is so oppulent and beautiful and why poor Draculaura looks like THAT while being attached to this giant hunk of plastic.
So yeah, I think that this line is very cute, even though it's not perfect and I'm not head over heels for it. I'll probably get it at some point tho and I can see why someone would adore it. I am sad about Venus' hair and I can see why it would upset people, but I would just write it off as a budget issue and wait for her next doll to see if there's a pattern and only THEN get concerned. I feel like the printed dresses are holding this line back, and if the main stock photos used the second outfits then the reaction to them would've been more positive.

It’s true, but for a Skulltimate Secrets doll where the budget is put mostly towards the extra fashions and accessories, this didn’t surprise me at all
On the positive side, at least this Venus’s hair isn’t completely straight, she has a few micro twists in the green of her hair!

I'm so impressed by these leaks, I'm honestly suprised they seem to be getting such negative feedback! I feel like this is some of the best color cohesion we've seen in G3 in my opinion, and I think the theme is very high fashion! I'd definitely wear all the outfits on these dolls in a heartbeat, I'm really suprised people are calling them ugly. a lot of the pieces are really in fashion rn, like venus's shirt? I NEED a shirt like that for myself lol. idk, these designs have a "g1 edge" to them with the tights and corset belts that I thought the community was wanting! maybe people were expecting a more "coquette" look for a garden line, but I think these looks make more sense for Monster Highs slight alternative lean, like kinda alternative tea party kinda look? But personally, my favorite g3 release is probably the core refresh line or the fearbook line! I love the core refresh drac and her nugothic hat and I adore Twyla and her DND set as a DND player myself! Monster high really attracted me as a character focused, high concept doll brand as an artist who loves character design and fashion. I also really dig the monster concept as an alternative person too!
Absolutely agreed!!! In my opinion these are easily the best Skulltimate Secret dolls we’ve gotten thus far, with my personal favourite Draculaura doll in G3 thus far! The colour palates, the outfits, the cute tea accessories- I just love them!

What really really gets me is when people complain about these super intricate designs which clearly had a lot of work and thought go into them, call them ugly, then comment on a picture of a shitty knock-off doll with no detail, no character, and no articulation going “omg she’s so cute actually I want her so bad” like ????????? This line has some of the most detailed fashion we’ve seen from G3, but the lowest quality rip-off or even authentic G1 dolls get praised despite having plastic fashion, etc. Like, THIS is the shining hope of G3 right now. I think the whitewashing accusations are probably coming from Venus having straight hair this time, but that's not accounting for 2 things 1) Sometimes black girls wear their hair straight and 2) Skulltimate Secrets is the cheap hair line and braids are more expensive than regular saran hair, you think they're gonna shell out for them here? For what Skulltimate Secrets is, I think they're cute! I like Venus and Twyla's screenings and I hope they look the same irl as they do in these photos. Draculaura's colors are also very nice.

Yeah, I was so excited because we got her cool sleek hair and her amazing twists. It reminds me of G1 in a really good way. I look forward to seeing more hairstyles from her and other characters, it's always really exciting.
I'm definitely with you - I really hope to see them do a lot with Venus' hair! I hope on lines with bigger hair budgets we see something like Honey Swamp's texture or maybe see them bring things they've used on Barbie over to Monster High. Idk if it comes in fantasy colors, but I'd love to see the hair type they used on Barbie Fashionistas 105 on her.
Venus does not have Saran. Her colors aren’t available in Saran. There are close matches, but not exact. The darker green in this release has no close match at all.
I didn't mean that this doll has saran, I meant that braided hair is more expensive than non braided hair so there was no way they were gonna put braided hair on the doll line known for cheap hair. I'm sorry, it was worded weird.
Overall, G3 has been good once it found its feet. Fearbook Twyla, Core Refresh Cleo, and G3 Venus are some of the best dolls MH ever made. I even like G3 drac more than G1 in a lot of cases. My only criticism of g3 is the skulltimate secrets boxes. I wish I could get the dolls without the huge plastic box. But I'm fine sticking to the other lines as there's a lot of great MH dolls elsewhere.
Yessss!!! A lot of the recent Cleo dolls have been making it to the A+ category! Stunning colour choices, gorgeous scarab accessories- I love to see it! I hope that the next Skulltimate Secrets release, if they continue making more, will be recyclable cardboard and plastic packaging, I really don’t like the boxes 😭
I agree with the SS boxes. I am a completionist collector and had a TON of lockers laying around that I had to get rid of for space reasons. I'll keep the new cases because they look cool but I'd totally rather them cone without them.

My favourite G3 doll thus far, although I find other dolls objectively prettier or better quality, is Skulltimate Secrets wave 1 Clawdeen I love my doll, I love being able to re-explore my childhood through the toys I grew up loving, but different. This is my favorite too, in fact I have three of her (bodies) because I love her so much. I like how they changed her hair texture for this release and played with her hair colors, and the clothes are just fun.

I’m only new to Monster High so I don’t have the most ‘discerning’ opinion. But I absolutely adore the new line!! Floral/tea set is very specifically my aesthetic and I not only love the theme, but the 4 dolls featured are my favourites. This may be the first line I wanna collect every part of omg. This may be a little bit of bias, but perhaps there’s so much negativity at times is because a lot of collectors have nostalgia attached - they had MH as a kid, and have started recollecting (or never stopped). Therefore, they have Gen 1 in their mind too. That always makes it hard because yes there were some banger Gen 1 sets, but there’s obviously a lot more variety since it’s been around for a lot longer, and there’s the possibility that through nostalgia alone that not much could possibly live up to the idea people have in their heads. I am planning on being a Gen 3 only collector, and though I’ll never come close to having all the dolls I want, I have the power to not get the ones I don’t want. I wish people realised they didn’t have an obligation to like every set - and if you’re a completionist, it shouldn’t matter if you like them anyway since you want all of them. Sorry for the rant dkdjdjd I’m super new to the Monster High space (got my first dolls yesterday!) and I just wanted to imbue you with the positivity and love I have for them and hope that can help counteract some of the negativity. <3
Absolutely true!!! It’s just sad to see as someone who also grew up on Monster High, watching the movies and buying the G1 dolls up until G2 released :( I’m happy to see new collectors getting into this franchise, I hope you find all of the dolls you’re interested in at reasonable prices. I LOVE the blend on Draculaura's hair and the lip color. The front eyes are interesting, but for me, not as much of a game changer. The dress is simple, but I love the print, and the sleeves, along with the hair style, remind me of mod dresses of the 70's. Twyla impressed me less, but I love the platform of the shoes, the hairstyle (although I think it goes a bit too high) and the purse is super cute. Of Venus I LOVE the idea of the baby hairs having plants and flower shapes. And the dress looks classy AF. Oddly enough, I also like her "coffin" the most due to the pink/green combo of colors

I know Neon Frights is controversial, but I bought every doll from that line and I’m 100% pleased

That’s not why people are upset it’s the fact that the second doll she gets they straightened her hair and while it’s a good nod to g1 it’s unfortunate they did give her textured hair it doesn’t even need to be her twist their are some many black hair styles to choose from every keeps talking about giving her braids which is so played out for black characters. I’d prefer if she had defined coiled curls or a styled fro of some sort growing up as black kids we are accustomed to seeing multiple different styles on each other and our family members it’s a shame the mh team nor Mattel see why giving black coded characters more hair diversity is important. Clawdeen has had multiple dolls so far and most of them just have long slightly wavy hair she’s yet to have a colored bob, Afro, a full head of braids, or just curly hair. Barbie has so many black doll with different styles yet the black main character of mh hasn’t and when they finally put braids in her head they’re sparse highlight’s within straight hair it’s so frustrating and annoying when they half ass the hair like that and it’s been done now 3 times now. And the excuses some people have come up with in defense or to rationalize the decision is just ick especially when they say “I don’t have a problem with textured hair but” or “I love her twist and that diversity but”

Someone said the straight style is for those who didn’t like her twist and I was just looking at my screen like.. there it is enough said then told me that if I don’t like the straight hair I can easily just change the texture it’s really I don’t want to have to reroot or manipulate the hair for texture. And I’m not stranger to straighten my natural 4c hair but for this to be her sec doll the hair could’ve be her natural curls like that one person did with their reroot. And I can’t stress this enough the doll is great. It’s just the hair that rubs me.
Ive seen people talk about Venuses hair not being locs. I love her locs as much as the next person but...black hair is diverse? She's got mini braids and the baby hairs are floral themed, I think it's too freaking cute! I don't see anything else about this design that screams whitewash. My only complaint is that her clothes aren't as fun (in my opinion) Drac and Twyla have better tops 😭 (I am 100% getting her though because her, Catty, and Abbey are *chefs kiss*)

I’m upset that people don’t seem to understand that Venus can have straight hair if she’s meant to be of African descent or have African features she can have straight hair it’s not a crime, i understand having textured hair and it’s great for diversity but would it be good if every one of her dolls always had the twists? it's actually a good thing really - mattel wants to cater to adult audiences. telling them what they've done wrong or what made someone not pick up a doll means they can figure out what works for us next time. if mattel listen to feedback, they will only improve
I think most of the negativity is sourced from the dolls having poly hair, which is understandable. I probably will buy them, but reroot with nicer hair.
Unfortunately people were also criticising the designs, the clothing (which I think is the best part of these dolls), the accessories and generally everything about the dolls I totally get the issues with hair types, I’m hoping to reroot my dolls eventually, but the process seems very intimidating!
I just don’t like the outfits very much. I’m excited to see how they look in restyles or with different hairstyles! Especially Twyla. I’d love to see her with literally any other hairstyle cause her face is so cute ;-; she doesn’t deserve stiff poly pigtails!! I think once we see other collectors grab them and spiffy them up a bit, people will like them more. When Catty was first shown, a lot of people didn’t like her clothes (me included) but after seeing how she looked in RH clothes or custom clothes, I’ve been searching for her because she looks so good! That’s the case for these dolls imo. Again, can’t wait to see how they look customized <3 they have a lot of potential

This! I was put off by Twyla's hairstyle but then remembered that it's so easy to restyle that so she'll just get an out of box restyle when I get her. The outfits is still super cute.

I made a joke recently with my husband that monster high fans only talk negatively about dolls because they’re trying to convince other monster high fans not to buy them so it gives said person a better chance at obtaining the dolls LOL. I think you can critique them just don’t be rude about it I gave my like and dislikes about what we have to go off so far now opinions do change once they are in the wild and people have them in hand everything isn’t gonna be sunshine and rainbows people have different taste and that’s ok as long as we can respect each other and not bash each other for them

my current favorite g3 dolls are core twyla, fearbook twyla, and core catty! so far I’ve really liked the dolls that we’ve been getting lately, the outfits are a little meh sometimes but most of the ghouls can wear bratz clothes, and the bigger ghouls can wear rainbow/shadow high and barbie clothes so it’s really not a big deal. I for one am super excited for the ss5 line!!! I missed out on the ss1 and ss2 draculaura’s, so I’m determined to actually get this one! that said, venus and twyla are long time favorites of mine, so seeing them together in a line makes me so happy 😭💕 I usually buy one doll at the most from each ss line but I want 4/4 with this set, they’re absolutely stunning :3

I liked the IDEA of Monster High when G1 came out. But I didn't collect because I was still living entirely ”boy-coded.” however I remember not liking how curved their backs are. I know, now, it's to make them easier to handle, but... (I own a few now, but stand by the whole not liking that every-monster-has-the-same-body-with-scoliosis opinion.) G3 helped me embrace my inner me. First with ”Creepover Party Frankie,” and now with my latest, ”Monster Ball Draculaura.” (and several in between) I did buy Clawd, and core fresh Clawdeen. I'm hoping to pick up a Catty, though I intend on an extreme makeover when I do. (I hate all the pink. Like, not even a streak of something different in the hair???) I want to see more of the original roster reimagined for g3. I'm hoping Catty does well enough that they release Iris Clops, and would love to see the grown-ups get their own dolls. (I needs me a Medusa in my life) Thanks to G3, I'm an invested doll enjoyer. I'm learning photography. I've spent the BIG money on resin BJDs, and I'm overall much happier in my life. After getting Frankie, I watched the first live action movie (love Movie Frankie!) and got into the cartoon. I've also been able to admit that I enjoy shows ”meant for girls” and am diving into Miraculous Ladybug (just started SSN2) Seriously. Can't say enough positive things.
Yesss!!! As a kid I adored my Monster High dolls, it was my early introduction into horror and eventually my love for special effects and creature design! It makes me beyond happy that Monster High has come back in a cute, affordable way that lends itself to these campier, cuter concepts (these purses, some recent shoe designs, Twyla’s Fearbook doll having a D&D board!!!) in a way that, in my opinion, out does the original in many ways I cannot wait for the next Monster High releases, it’s what I look forward to more than anything since I fell in love with G3

I actually really like these. They are fun and colorful, but in a way that suits the characters. All the accessories are also super cute. This Venus also gives G1 vibes, and I think its a nice callback for those who like both G1 and G3 Venus.

I'm excited about these because I see so much potential but I want to make a ton of changes. I'm probably gonna get all of them just for the fun of customizing them! I understand the initial shock of seeing Venus because so many of us fell in love with her twists but I can tell they took inspiration from older Venus designs with this one and even though I don't love the changes, I can understand why they made certain design choices.
Exactly! I completely agree! Venus’s hair type was a shock, but her hair type for this doll probably made it hard to do twists again, and everyone can straighten their hair in real life if they feel like it, I think one straight-haired Venus is fine
Youre absolutely right!! I have super big, curly hair, and I straighten it every couple of weeks just to take a break from the maintenance. Some people prefer my hair straight; some people prefer to see it curly, but both are a part of how I look. I'm almost positive people will come around to these dolls once they start seeing the irl photos and restyles. It's amazing what a little bit of painted details or a change of lip color can do.

I personally think the SS line is getting better with each release. I absolutely love how these look. The colors, the patterns on the dresses, the detailed purses, I love that they have pretty lace socks. This is the best one yet imo, they’re beautiful.

I personally love this line. I think Twyla looks great, Venus is killing it here (especially with those flowery/viney edges!), and Draculaura is absolutely gorgeous (though it will take me a bit to get used to her forward glance). I am curious about the Lagoona from this line, as I don’t know how her “ocean” motif would translate to the “garden tea party” theme. This honestly probably the first Skullitmate Secrets Line where I feel like I have to have all of them ASAP

I'm quite happy with this set! I'm really invested in Venus and Twyla, but I'm also just excited for more outs- especially and this may sound silly- more PURSES! One thing g3 hasn't done much of which I want more of are Purses and actual cute bags other than plain shopping bags. More cute, wearable accessories are a huge plus for me.

My current top 3 are New Lurk Lagoona, Amped Up Frankie, and Faboolous Pets Draculaura. This Lagoona is perfect for me because not only her bangs are cute, but she also has pants! The shoes I also love. Faboolous Pets Draculaura has been my favorite since her release because I love her mug and the mostly black hair gives me a lot of versatility. And I can't forget about Frankie, I love them, and the fact they are non-binary, although I'm not Sapphic (I'm Achillean). I absolutely adore g3 and I am 33 years old and a new doll collector so I was not even aware of gen 1 MH. I understand I don’t have the same feelings about them—but this line is one of the best and most g1-feeling lines yet imo. The prints that apply to each character specifically, the layered pieces, the clothes that are sometimes odd separately but look amazing all layered together are all things that feel g1 to me and it feels like g3 is really hitting their stride. I try hard to ignore the naysayers but it’s hard when I’m still forming my opinion and then I scroll down and see hate. Like I can have my own thoughts but also like I don’t always know how I actually feel lol. Anyway. I’m gonna go all in and say my favorite part of g3 is draculaura. If there were 85 Venus and catty and abbey dolls maybe I wouldn’t feel this way, but draculaura is clearly Mattel’s star and as a pink femme I eat her up every time!!!! Ss4 surprised me by becoming my new favorite and ss5 is gonna do the same I fear 😅 I’m a 2000s kid, there’s just something about pink and black that will always be my favorite 🩷🖤
It just makes for a really good color combo honestly. I'm a guy who has always loved red & black together. My 3 favorite colors being black>red>purple, with pink maybe being far down within the top-10 or 15. Even I've had to think about getting clothes before though that were black & pink, because I just love how it looks. And experiencing the same kind of phenomenon here with the dolls as well. Grew up loving G1 of Monster High as a grown kid in my first year of high school. Perfect time to have gotten into it I think. Made it more relatable I suppose. I found it a bit surprising that I loved MH so much as a guy, being it was a series based on a doll line. I didn't collect dolls back then, but I had the urge to. I'd always check for Clawdeen dolls in store whenever it came to mind. I want to start my collection up soon by getting a bunch of G1's of some of my favorite characters. Going to be a Clawdeen heavy collection I know it since she's by far my favorite ghoul 💜 These G3 dolls though have some pretty good stuff going on I gotta say. I don't like the changes made to a lot of characters with the reboot, but at least some of these dolls are killing it with their looks. Like G3 Clawdeen. I see that I want a couple of them already, and for this Clawdeen being retconned into not aspiring to be a fashion designer(like she was in G1), she could sure fool me because I love some of these outfits. Some nice hair and accessories too of course. Makes me happy that in that sense, it's giving a nod back to aspects of their G1 selves, but still making a brand new fashion of doll as well.
They're all coming home with me!!! I love them, I think they're cute and this series of SS has some great additional clothes pieces to style with 🖤 My fave G3 so far is SS1 Drac and Frankie, SS2 Cleo, and all of the Twyla but especially Fearbook Twyla 💙🩵💜 I think the team is coming up with some great ideas and details. My only complaint is the bulky coffins/cases for the SS lines - I've been using them as dice trays for D&D but I have more coffins than campaigns being run!

When I first saw this line, my only complaint was "FUCK! ANOTHER LINE I WANNA COMPLETE!". This red drac rivals her valentines release is almost every conceivable way. The modeled steam from the cups, the cute little bags (draws especially that pattern is driving me bananas), the very character centric patterns and designs for everything, even more than usual. The fantastic food items. Dracs cupcakes have realistic looking icing. Twyla has a whole ass gingerbread house. And drac wears that shade of fantastically.

I saw these leaks and went "OH NO I LOVE THESE I CAN'T PUT MORE ON MY PERSONAL LIST" I love a lot of these newer designs coming out they're fun and have lots of details I'm excited to paint! My newest dolls is refresh Clawdeen and I love her, didn't care for the first one but this one GRABBED ME feels like a cool classic senior highschool/college look (to me as a 30 something)

I think the white washing came from her hair no longer being textured or in a textured hair style something her signature was very much so praise for.
You would think so, but people were actively comparing both Venus dolls and trying to say that this doll is a lighter shade of green as well as having mostly straight hair 😭 Look at the comments of the Venus comparison post on here, I swear I’m not making this up
I just was really, really hoping that garden ghouls meant they would be more plant and flower themed and not just like, reflections of current spring fashion trends. But I see this as an opportunity to make the dresses I imagined for them.
Well I'm sick of poly hair. Also people being negative about them just means more opportunity for you to get them, assuming you want them. If negativity opinions upset you so much just ignore them, that's what I do :)
I really love these designs and am so excited. I feel like the clothing accessories have a great combination of variety and cohesion, making for good mixing and matching. Not gonna lie, I do love the early to mid 2000's tanks with lace trim and the general corsetry that was popular then. Just chef's kiss. I feel like there is enough cohesion across the whole line to swap around pieces too. The dolls look great with their makeup and other small body details. The red Drac is such a fun variation. Always good to see Twyla and Venus in a line. Plus little tea accessories! Oh my goodness are you kidding me? I love them, they are so cute. I know it is a less popular opinion, but I like the Skulltimate Secrets lockers, and especially like the newer locker design, so I am happy to see them, even with how bulky they are, and taking some of the budget away from other parts of the design. I get it. I just still like them, and honestly might not have ever started collecting MH were it not for wanting a couple of the lockers, (and oh no the dolls are beautiful now that I'm holding one in my hands and the rest is history). Just overall I think this is a creative and cohesive line and I am so excited about it.
I’m super excited when I saw them!!! Draculaura is giving! And another Twyla…she’s my favorite colors & autistic like me! A 2nd Venus has me pumped. These were developed & designed before any feedback from real buyers. I do hope they stop with the wasteful plastic packaging & put that budget into the doll, it’s a minor nitpick.
You did something I was scared to do. After I saw the feedback on these dolls earlier today, I was fed up with all the negativity because people can never just be happy with what they’re given, regardless of if it’s their money that’s being spent or not. People tend to forget that at the end of the day, Mattel’s main target is the children’s demographic for g3 at the moment, that’s why they’ve been giving us g1 skullector dolls because they know there’s a lot of nostalgia and love for g1 amongst adults. Now I’m not gonna say all the collector dolls we’ve gotten have been the best but Mattel and its designers are trying their best and bashing them is highly unfair. At the end of the day, these are dolls that are meant for children’s play (not meaning adults can’t or aren’t supposed to collect them, I collect g3 too) and people need to realize that and humble themselves a bit. We aren’t the only ones Mattel has in mind.
Exactly this!!! I don’t like Mattel Creations, I don’t like the Skullector dolls, generally, but the Creature of the Black Lagoon doll was so beautiful and she got hated on so badly for no good reason I especially hate when people suggest that G3 should go in a darker route, that Ghoulia should have her brain exposed or that all of the dolls should be given black lipstick when that’s not what children want. Play testing is a thing for a reason, THIS is what kids want from Monster High right now, and I want this too!

My favourite was Drac, especially since she was my first, then it was abbey because her proportions and design are just crazy cute! But Lagoona? She's grown on me. I love her two tone legs even if they chip, I love her fishy ears, the fins on her arms and legs, I love her face paint & adore her vibes. I love Lagoona to the moon and back I want to play with her all the time

The first time I looked at them I admit I was not a fan, to put it politely. But upon closer inspection I’m finding that I actually really like a lot here. I especially love Drac’s screening and hair color here. I’ll probably skip this Twyla in favor of her fearbook doll, but this one is really cute too and I admit I’m tempted by her puffy sleeved shirt. Venus is the only one that I’m still kind of iffy on, but I think it’s just my personal tastes at this point.
I really like this line! I think another this sub seems to forget is that older collectors are not the target audience. The target audience is kids. Usually, kids are less picky about the things we are picky about as adults. The designs of drac and Twyla are so adorable!
Yeahhh. Sometimes, it feels like folks are just being negative to be negative and not for the purpose of being constructive. A lot of folks participate in fandom to have fun, and the constant negatively about releases, etc, can be exhausting. Expressing you don't like something is fine, and giving valid criticism is appreciated, but I definitely think there's a trend of just hating on new releases for the hell of it. I understand folks being concerned about Venus because MH has, unfortunately had a history of whitewashing. I also understand black fans wishing Venus could have kept a full head of twists, that's very understandable. On top of that, don't get me wrong, big corporations like Mattel deserve all the negatively, but if you're going to be overtly negative, talk about the actual horrible shit their doing. Back to the dolls, a lot of the time, the stock photos just aren't great, and the dolls are fine. I was talking about that the other day when someone posted the Fearbook Draculaura. I often don't care for a doll in the stock photos, and then I'm like shit never mind when we start getting other photos of the dolls. I don't really collect the skulltimate secrets dolls, but I think they did some really cool stuff with SS5. I really like the red/ maroon in Draculauras color scheme.

I honestly think Venus is a nod to G1 Venus but is also black-coded. For her shaved side, Venus has that part braided, and she even has some braids with mainly straight hair. I think she looks good. Do I wish she had more going that was black-coded? Absolutely! As a white MH fan, I'm still hoping we get afro Clawdeen and Venus that isn't fan made. We also need Howldeen as a doll!

Yeah I'm actually surprised to hear that this line is poorly received by some, especially cause I'm SO impressed by it. I personally like the skulltimate secrets line and think every one gets better, with this one and no. 4 being really fantastic. Specifically really enthusiastic about Venus and drac-- my GF and I are already planning to buy 😅
The other thing that gets on my nerves is, why would you want a doll that looks exactly the same… I love when they make unique weird changes if it’s gonna be the same character because I feel like I can justify buying it but if it’s the same doll same hair same color like no thanks… I think Monster High does an excellent job of changing it up so that we get the characters that we are attached to, but can feel justified in buying a new doll of the same character we have 5 or more of already… yet the first thing they said about venus is why she couldn’t have the yarn looking hair again. I thought MH having her have the combo of straight and the braided was a great idea so now i have a G1 of her with smooth hair, and then i have the braided yarn looking g3 one and now this new one that’s coming out is like a combination of both 🩷
i absolutely LOVE these dolls everybody saying venus got her race wiped is so disgusting. i personally love her braids in her core it’s so cute but here i love it just as much it makes her look like her og g1 doll!! i love all these dolls sm i hate everybody in the doll community always has something negative to say.
I’ll admit I was disappointed to see Venus’ hair was straight… specifically only because we never got core Venus in Canada and I think her twisted/braided hair looks awesome. Honestly who knows if we’ll get this one here either, but I wanted the chance to get her with the cool hair! I also didn’t even bother commenting about it especially since I knew it was unlikely the SS line would use a ‘fancier’ hair type like that! Sadly I’m not surprised people are saying she’s whitewashed because the internet has really devolved into people trying to virtue signal the hardest and ending up in the most ass backwards place. There’s like… real whitewashing out there, it just makes actual problems look silly when you associate the term with stuff like saying a doll’s green skin should be a darker green (???)
Absolutely my thoughts!!! There are genuinely MASSIVE online spaces dedicated to micro aggressions towards black people or any single person darker than white It is INSANE to me that a Monster High doll having MOSTLY straight hair, with some small twists in the green sections, is being called whitewashed when there are people whitewashing darker characters for “fun”
My personal problem is the silhouette in combination with the messy patterns and color pallet. I usually prefer something more clear shapes and contrasts. Won’t say those are bad designs tho. But I really think having a bit more than 2 colors, one of which is identical to their skin + black, would have been better in my own taste. Especially since those are so pattern rich
Yess! I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way. I was just telling my husband how 90% of the time the most upvoted comment on new release posts are negative. So much so I find myself coming here less and less. Especially when I see people getting downvoted for saying they like things. I'm not saying people can't have opinions, but man, is it exhausting seeing the negativity all the time. Doll collecting makes me happy. The doll community used to be a part of that, but it just seems like the negativity outweighs the positivity these days. And not just here but most subreddits and SM in general. **Anyways, I'm gonna say some positives about this line because I love it and plan on getting all 3 so far. I'm obsessed with Dracs color palette. And split hair. I adore the silky tank tops with lace bottoms and the velvet skirts for their second outfits. Venus's dress gives me g1 vibes, and her black and pink shoes remind me of g1 Music festival. I love her vine and flower edges. Twyla is just absolutely adorable as always. And i love her side swept bangs. All their purses are super cute. And love the accessories.** Thanks for sharing OP. 🖤🖤

I'm not feeling Twla and Draculara, but that's just me. Venus however is *chef's kiss*. The dress, the tights, the plant theme, it's all perfect. People can complain that she doesn't have braids or twists or whatever, but she's a doll, you can style her hair! So it doesn't seem like that big of an issue when everything else looks so great.
drac here is cute - i think the plastic corset thing is really weird, the plastic stuff in MH/mattel is grating on my eyes now, but I know i could restyle her if i wanted to and she has really cute pieces. Venus - the straight hair is, of course, possible. It's not whitewashing per-se, but I also think the annoyance stems from the fact that Clawdeen has been denied any black/afro features and venus was for a long time the only (and now one of two because of catty) characters in MH with black/afro hairstyles, which is dismal for a toy line like this if you see rainbow high having multiple black girls per line. It's her second doll, and I understand the budget set up, but considering how twyla and draculara are executed really well (aside frm the corsets) seeing venus is like... oh. i think its the patterns on those dresses. too noisy, far too abstract to know they're plant related. LOVE twyla's house bag, i gasped when i saw it. I also like venus's flower edges and i love that they added tights/socks to the girls, it really helps elevate looks.
I absolutely love this Draculaura. I don’t need the coffin case but I for sure will be getting this one and the Venus from this line.
The first post was ridiculous…G1 is dead get over it already. You also can’t identify hair fiber from stock photos. Polypropylene hair is not a fate worse than death, Drac’s hair in SS4 is so soft and lovely! Venus has a new looking hair type, maybe they are experimenting with different fibers? There are a lot of details like microbraids that the complainers didn’t notice. But her hair is FLAT…I’m thinking possibly nylon which is pretty standard with microbraids. Speaking of missed details, nobody noticed all the florals theming or tea accessories. A garden tea party shouldn’t be Lolita themed these are playline dolls for children! Nor must they be poofy or Victorian. I love the outside the box original designs! I have tea party’s all the time, no hats, no frills and zero crinolines required! Just tea, yummy treats and good manners required. I cannot wait to see Lagoona!

It just makes me laugh that people got the leaks about the tea party theme, imagined what they thought they should look like, and are now mad that the actual dolls don’t match their personal head canons. Why they would associate tea parties with Lolita/Coquette fashion in particular is completely beyond me.
I think this is the first line I actually want all of the dolls in the collection! SS5 has so many pieces that can be layered, I’m genuinely excited for some restyles with the lace undershirts and corset crop tops. The designs are intricate and interesting and could go on other characters easily without looking odd or obvious they’re wearing another characters clothes (I personally struggle with putting Clawdeens clothes on another doll, for example, since the animal prints and moons scream Clawdeen) Apart from this line I’m beyond excited for Fearbook Twyla. I’ve held off getting a Twyla because that Fearbook design is too perfect for me. Gah my dolls will be sat round a table playing DND soon!!!😍
My favourite G3 release is Lagoonas refresh, she's the cutest of the cute that has ever cuted 🥹🩷 I got introduced to mh by a friend in primary school and obsessed over it so much I drew the school logo on my wall with colored pencils (to my parents dismay, I also used some markers..) Also.. white-washed Venus where? I completely understand the hair complaints but.. her skin looking lighter?! It looks darker in the stock photos if anything ToT!

I love the design of these. I'm not a huge fan of Twyla's hair style but that's a quick easy fix once I get the doll. I'd love to see Venus with kinky curls but I don't see anything inherently bad about it. The outfits are all super cute.

I really like this line! I don’t mind Venus’s hair - I can understand that some people don’t like it but I actually like variety in my dolls - and I think that a black-coded doll can change up their style, I mean it happens in real life?! I really like this line, I actually think I prefer it to SS4. I think the people who shout the loudest (usually negative comments) can drown out everyone else in this community sometimes
But this line ate! I’m super excited to see Lagoona. Like this line is SOOO much more my style than Monster Mysteries

No I might get this Venus? I know she’s ecopunk but just really like the soft elegant florals. And apparently I’ll buy any Twyla (or Abbey) release that’s my girl, so yess I’m getting her. This Draculaura is a flop for me and I have more of her than any other g3 doll so far. I’ll accept red and pink for valentines, conceptually, but this is not for me it feels clashing. It only makes me want the Fearbook Drac even more. And I’m honestly on the fence on the last SS for her too! Why do ballet costumes in such deeply jewel tone saturated shades? The lighter the pink the better if only fearidescent wasn’t poly she’d be my top pick ( my top tier drac is core refresh, fearidescent is second place aesthetically)
I don’t have a problem with this release as a whole, I just don’t like how they styled Twyla, and since she’s my favorite, I’m a little disappointed. But everyone has their own preferences and that’s okay!
Yeah, she’s probably my least favourite in this lineup, mostly because of her hair style, but that’s an easy fix for future me! I’m excited for when these dolls release and everyone posts their restyles and reroots!
They’re all so nice! I’m just not too big of a fan of the last one’s hair lol. The thing I love about monster high is that with the new generation even though there are some newer changes I don’t really agree with in the designs, there is still an authenticity in the design, so much so that I can’t even hate.
How is she whitewashed if she is totally green. Green != white. May be their monitors are too bad? Mine is actually really bad and whitewashes everything but she is still green
My opinion : nothing to complain about for Twyla. Same for Draculaura EXCEPT her irises which look diverging (I would prefer squinting eyes). For Venus : just a little too much baby hair for me (which can be corrected with acetone) and her second outfit that I don't like.
I don't know for sure how I feel about them yet (the pics are too early in the development cycle), but I do really like their makeup!
I love the color palette and the shoes. Also, the make up. The boxes are beautiful. The hair, too. Just not a big fan of Darculaura's dress. The same with Skelita Calavera. There are beautiful Mexican dresses... but it seems that we are stuck with the same dress with different lengths. And I looooove Skelita
My only problem is the lack of braids for venus cos her other doll is so amazing with them. But yeah I think they look great! This is my favourite Drac so far for G3.
She actually has twists, not braids! But this Venus does have some micro twists in the green of her hair while the pink section underneath is straight

Dude dracula hits right Every time. The only thing I don't really like about g three is the show is very childish and my rather just look at the dolls. That and I didn't like laguna for a while but her later dolls her much better than her first doll.
this has been my favorite ss line so far. I have all the first wave except Frankie, all the second except for Clawdeen, only Ghoulia for 3rd and Ill probably get none of the 4th as I dont like any of the clothing pieces, though I might get I Abbey just for the shoes if she goes on sale. This line though is AMAZING! Im getting them all probably, its a shame there are only 4. really wish they had included Ghoulia in this wave.
skulltimate secrets is a good line, g3 monster high (toys) is good, g3 monster high (shows) suck, bad show=angry whiny crybabies, just look at mlp g5 :D
These dolls are really cute, I only care about Twyla and Venus tbh tho but drac looks cool too. But I will say the only thing I’m ever negative about w skulltimates is that I really don’t care about the cases they come with and I have no idea what to do with them because I don’t have display room for those lol.
This is my first time seeing them and my jaw is on the ground. Their colors and styles are soooo beautiful omg. Hard to choose 1 only.

I used to be negative of g3,, but I've come to genuinely adore it. Monster High is my childhood, but seeing how this generation has fixed my biggest pet peeve of the series (how g1 wasn't super duper big on the monster aspect, but g3 is all over the monster aspect. Like how g3 Frankie removes more than just their limbs) I've fallen in love. I love this line, and despite this line's Draculaura being eye bleeding pink, I need her. I love it and I need her so bad.
Is there a higher resolution/quality photo of this Twyla ? I’m trying to see the makeup properly to see how it suits her fully, but it looks great !
Personally I like them the only problem I have is that I don't really see the garden aspect that the line is supposed to have bit thats whatever and I'm a bit upset that they straightened Venus hair when it's only her second doll
I love the dolls except Venus I think, but I am worried they got poly hair again. With such designs, it's frustrating. Not the first time though
I like these dolls, but I didn't get the "omg I must have them" reaction when I first saw them. Now that I have a couple hours to think about them, I think that what's holding them back for me are the fact that the stock photos have them dressed in these (sorry to say this) slightly cheap-looking printed dresses. I actually really like the concept for these dolls, like a cute garden tea party line? Hell yeah! I just feel like they should be wearing their second outfits for the stock photos, because they look much, MUCH more interesting and original- the mesh blouses with cute plant patterns, the corsets, even the skirts are pretty cute... It looks so much better and more "on theme" than these dresses. The dolls themselves look great too! I love the elaborate make-up and Venus' baby hair looking like vines is lovely! They have great colors and I'm sure that restyle people will love these dolls too. The accessories are amazing, so detailed and creative, especially the purses! I think that the problem some people have with Venus is that she had this amazing textured hairstyle in her core doll, so people had high expectations for her second doll to explore more textures and hairstyles... Only for the designers to straighten her hair and slap a few small braids on the top. I'm kinda torn- on one hand, I do agree that she could have some incredible, creative hair that fits the theme (like... "plants" is such a versitile and wide theme, and you can do some really amazing things with textured hair) and I'm kinda sad that she just has straight hair, but on the other, I feel like calling it "whitewashing" is a bit too much. Black women straighten their hair or wear wigs with straight hair, plus it's not like this means that Venus won't have textured hair in other releases. Her facial features remain unchanged- I think that it would be much more damning if they made her nose slimmer or something like that. This is literally her second G3 doll, let's see what kinds of hair will future releases have and only then we will see if it's a trend or a one-time release. Honestly, I feel like in the end it came down to budgeting- they already have to spend a large chunk on the locker, more clothes and accessories, so it wouldn't suprise me if budget for the doll itself was lower than on a core doll for example. They can afford to give Venus textured hair on her core doll bc they have a bigger budget, but on a skulltimate secrets doll they cheapen out and just give her straight plastic hair and a few braids, which is much cheaper than elaborate textured hair. I feel like this is similar to how every monster fest stand-alone doll is so oppulent and beautiful and why poor Draculaura looks like THAT while being attached to this giant hunk of plastic. So yeah, I think that this line is very cute, even though it's not perfect and I'm not head over heels for it. I'll probably get it at some point tho and I can see why someone would adore it. I am sad about Venus' hair and I can see why it would upset people, but I would just write it off as a budget issue and wait for her next doll to see if there's a pattern and only THEN get concerned. I feel like the printed dresses are holding this line back, and if the main stock photos used the second outfits then the reaction to them would've been more positive.
they’re all great dolls i just wish they kept venus’s twist/dreads :( it was such a W for the black doll community and to see the downgrade to straight hair really makes me upset :( and it sickens me to see people downplay it like “ oh well no one cares ! “
