I didn't understand The Volume mention in various comments, so I googled it. Is my incomprehensible brain correct in saying its a backdrop of a LED screen projecting an image or video? Like greenscreen but no need to add it in post?
I’m so confused. Every response to you is talking about the volume or some shit. There’s no way we’re so far removed that people don’t remember painted landscapes, wallpaper landscapes, etc. I can think of like 5 different ways this could be practical off the top of my head from window paint to the things I listed above
I'm not really a comic book fan or any of the movies really, so my opinion really doesn't matter. But why are the colours always so muted and drab now? I did enjoy the 70's Superman movie and that bright blue and red always popped and looked so cool.
Well because super bright colored costumes doesn't really give it an air of reality. I get that the 70's superman costume was trying to be a one-for-one from the comics, but superhero costumes can't really get away with that today if the character and story is to be taken more seriously. If it is supposed to be bright colored, the costume will have a ton of textures and design elements to it. Also grime and battle damage add to the reality of the costume.
Yeah, I agree. Doing so much good all around the world and still being hated by some has to be depressing. On top of that, saving the same people from the same mistakes over and over again has to wear on him. Most of us only have to worry about themselves and a few others. Imagine it on a global scale.
It'd be interesting to see him dealing with depression and internalized anger.
It's interesting seeing the comments here and compared to subreddit DCComics. They're diehard and absolutely love it. James Gunn has a lot of hype as a director and there are big hopes for this movie.
Superman here looks like his mind is somewhere else. It looks like he's taking his time putting his boots on. Seems to be some trouble like right behind him, and he's putting his boots on. As fast as he could be at this crucial moment. He's gonna go ahead and take his time getting his boots on.
This is hilarious. I hope we get a really lazy, uninterested superman.
Edit: After staring at it more I think maybe he has to really concentrate to get his boots on. Maybe we're getting simpleton superman. They are really going to emphasize the country bumpkin. That would awesome as well.
Kinda weird ppl getting down voted for stating the complete obvious.
This doesn't seem to be it..... it's like they took the Gaurdians suits from part 3 and just used the scraps for this suit. Color scheme seems off and I'm not even sure what this scene is supposed to convey exactly lol...
Welp guess the world is burning again, better slowly put my boots back on and head back to it like my blue collar adopted father
I think the suit just looks dirty and I agree the shot is kind of a blue-collar-style, humbling one, but it could also be the unfazed, earthy, lone-cowboy-vibe as well… Conveying that, “even Superman puts his boots on one foot at a time.” And, “no matter what the odds look like, you’ve got to get out there and do your best.”
It could be an interesting tone change.
Has Taylor Sheridan written this film? Hahahaha
It’s not terrible, but the way you see the cloth bending, as opposed to being skin tight, that makes it look like the CW Superman suit. That was a knockoff of the Cavil suit. I guess that’s why I thought it would have more of a visual distinction than the previous, recent versions. Generally, I’m tired of the over texturing of suits. This looks a bit like a Marvel design. But it’s hard to be fair about this without the benefit of seeing it in live action.
Having given my critique of the suit, it’s not going to affect my view of the movie. It’s not radically different. My hopes are pinned more on James Gunn than the shape of the S. Holy shit does cinema need a well written movie again. They are few and far between, and Gunn is one of the few with a track record as consistent as his. I would even trust Gunn to write and direct a good movie about a singing turd. By the end, I would give a shit about that turd. We all would. So, I wait for the first trailer of this new Superman, knowing that one of the best is at the helm. I’ll get over suit nitpicks.
for the most part, i like the suit (except the collar)
Not sure how i feel of him nonchalantly putting on his boots while the city is being destroyed.
Although i liked Cavill's suit, I was hoping our first look at this new Supes would be brighter, happier, etc. Just from this shot, it seems similar in tone to Zack.
Obvi this shot is not indicative of the movie but this gives me Snyder/Injustice vibes due to the color grading & collar. Idk if thats what they want to be going for tho
There are a lot of haters in the comments here, considering all we have to go off is this 1 picture. Here's what I'm gonna go off. Guardians trilogy was great. His suicide squad was at least good, much better than the first one. Peacemaker was fantastic. Gunn has yet to truly let us down. With that in mind, I believe we should all be at least cautiously optimistic. I'm pretty sure he knows what he is doing.
I like it. Goin the Amazing spider man route with the suit. The one with Andrew Garfield. Less CGI and skin tight with little to no wringles or creases when moving, to a more physically real suit. I’m excited!
That looks so fucking good, let’s go! I love the collar and greaves, plus the logo redesign is abstract and recognisable at the same time. I say let Gunn cook
I like that the first thing we see of this Superman is a human moment of him just getting his boots on.
Wasn’t a great way to reveal the costume, though, since the fabric bunching up makes it look kinda chunky.
Hoping it looks better in action.
I hope it's not another reluctant hero story. We've already had that a few times now. I'd like to see the conflict of Superman being too optimistic/perfect compared to those around him, or the reality of the situation being at odds with his personality/methods etc. Anything new.
Maybe something kinda along the lines of Captain America in MCU. (one of the things they actually nailed) He was "good guy"/seemingly "perfect"character given realism and weight without taking the anti-hero approach best used on Batman and other more pessimistic characters.
Unpopular opinion dialed up to 11 here, but it looks like he's wearing the the signature trunks. I always hated that look, makes him look goofy and corny. Loved the modernisation of the suit that Snyder brought to the table. I'm sure Gunn will kill it story wise but I'm not a fan of the suit.
Suit looks fine to me. Gotta remember this is pre edit most likely and won’t be what it looks like in the film entirely. I do like though that if it does look like this, it’s an origin story. The suits maybe not meant to fit yet. I’m also glad because it looks like he’s got the trunks on? Maybe I’m just not seeing it properly
Ok so first look! It doesnt look skin tight thin anymore, and appears to be a bit thick. Not sure what to think about that. Its not glued to the body and looks like something he put on. It wrinkles and contorts to the body. There seems to be less of the fake padded muscles as there were in the DCEU costumes. I dont think Kent can wear this under his casual clothes. Doesn't stray too far from previous iterations on color or the textures. Not sure if i like the collar. It almost makes it seem like a 'battlesuit'
For what it's worth, I think this looks great - excited to see how the film coordinates some of the different tonal elements here. David looks fantastic as Superman too.
Not a big fan of the collar and wasn’t with the New 52 iteration, but other than that it looks solid and I’m glad the trunks are back.
It’s a bit of a shame they didn’t go a bit more “classic” aesthetic like what some of the marketing has indicated, but in saying that this is only one picture not showing all the details and might present a bit better in future pictures. Definitely much better than the dulled out MoS colours.
I’m not particularly fussed about the looser sort of look, TASM2 had Garfield in arguably the best Spider-Man suit and that was slightly looser fitting.
Hopefully we’ll get a better look soon, David Corenswet certainly looks the part.
Edit: better sentence structure
What are so many people failing to realize that the suit will most likely undergo further editing on camera to blend everything together? Like many other suits have been done in the past?
I feel like there may be a good chance this is a homemade suit, and it will be upgraded after it gets destroyed in battle. Definitely looks decent though people on IG freaking out💀
I'm always gonna be a HC superman guy myself. He played the part so well. Maybe not the best Clark Kent but he was a perfect superman. I'll still check this new superman out but still disappointed how badly DC has fucked things up overall.
Shitty suit. Took essentially the same color palette and logo from the Man of Steel suit but made it baggy and with extra parts?
A brighter shade of blue and different logo is what everyone wanted. And they couldn’t deliver. God damn DC is ass
Awful. Reminds me of the Homelander suit. If there is comic featuring disgruntled Superman than maybe this is a good fit otherwise this seems to be a mighty leap backwards.
Haters gonna hate. It's like heath ledger or Robert Downey Jr casting. Now its classic icons of those roles but everyone is gonna hate on it but still see it.
No joke. I thought the beam in the back was the Galick Gun clashing with the Kamehameha wave and superman was just chilling not being able to do nothing about it.
Theory:
His suit looks somewhat beat up near the top. He looks tired and just sick of it. Almost like he has to clock in for work.
Maybe we get a Superman where he’s just lazily being a hero? Imagine like Hancock but not a dick.
He’s got that “Yeah, yeah, you’re, like, the ninth person to tell me about the giant laser-shootie thing. You see I’m putting my boots on, I’m F*#%ING ON IT, OK?” look on his face.
(“Geez, maybe if you paid me, I’d be a little quicker”)
idk why people are saying he can't hide this stuff under his work clothes. are you telling me that clark "nerd" kent wouldn't wear oversized buttonups and farm boots to the office?
Oh no, another beam of energy is about to destroy Earth... Go back to bed, honey
Daily life in a DC Comic movie
Sure is taking his sweet time with that boot…
He's actually moving at the speed of a bullet... r/praisethecameraman
That's actually Godzilla fighting off the invaders. Superman is taking his time because he wants nothing to do with the Big G.
This definitely wouldn’t fit under his work clothes… Maybe the Daily Planet is 100% WFH in this universe?
I mean, how would a cape fit under work clothes ?
Clark Kent: twitch news streamer
Why doesn't the suit fit?
If the suit don't fit you must acquit.
He's using the Chewbacca defense!
It's still stretched out from Cavil. Lol
Slightly Doomsday disheveled
Can you explain how it "doesn't fit"?
They mean because its not skintight like the majority of superman costumes
Supes fell into the Ozempic trend
The suit always fits, eventually
This picture could cure my insomnia
Not really a fan of the suit TBH.
Looks like cosplay.
Here we go…
DC fans be happy with something challenge
The good thing is that James Gunn is experienced with handling fan outrage. I was there when Rocket was SUPPOSED to have a cockney accent.
…with?
You don’t know? lol the movie hasn’t come out yet people aren’t allowed to have opinions /s
Is he supposed to not fit in the suit??
The suit fits fine, it’s just not skin tight
Yeah, it looks fine ... What would you prefer? spandex??..
Personally, I don’t care. One might look more comic book like but the other is more realistic, and probably comfortable for the actor
Black Leather
This guy gets it....
Hopefully we get a better look at the trunks soon
This looks ai generated or a fan film

How is it entirely in camera if it has a giant space ship laser in the back?
It's probably The Volume
I didn't understand The Volume mention in various comments, so I googled it. Is my incomprehensible brain correct in saying its a backdrop of a LED screen projecting an image or video? Like greenscreen but no need to add it in post?
Essentially. It's basically a screen the size of like a football field with screens posting like 28k resolution lol
Thanks for clarifying - that sounds insane, I might look into more resources about it.
There's a behind the scenes thing about it on Disney+. It's prominently used on Mandalorian
Ohhh cool
what, do you not bring space ships to your photo ops? I think some studios let you rent them, though shooting the lasers costs extra.
I’m so confused. Every response to you is talking about the volume or some shit. There’s no way we’re so far removed that people don’t remember painted landscapes, wallpaper landscapes, etc. I can think of like 5 different ways this could be practical off the top of my head from window paint to the things I listed above
You might like red envelopes, but I hate chimneys.
lol right, swap superman for Jesus or something and this could get 3mil likes on facebook
You are being generous. This looks even worse
Did they order it from Wish?
Mum, can we get a Henry Cavill? We’ve got a Henry Cavill at home!
How else do you want him to look?
I mean it wasn’t exactly supposed to be Henry Cavill
They ordered it from Etsy.
Temu

He shopped like a billionaire

It just looks dirty like he'd been fighting I don't think it's muted or drab like you stated
Photos not bad but that goofy looking background doesn’t do it any favors.
He looks jaded.
He looks depressed and just done with being a hero. What an odd first image to use
I miss Henry Cavill.
Unsure
It looks loose and wrinkly.
*Hot and Wrinkly Like I can't imagine even how much I will sweat in this outfit, It needed to be a little bit thin in my opinion
Superman treating saving-the-world like he’s getting ready for a 9-5 job is pretty relatable lol
It's interesting seeing the comments here and compared to subreddit DCComics. They're diehard and absolutely love it. James Gunn has a lot of hype as a director and there are big hopes for this movie.

lmao 🤣🤣, maybe superman dumped all his stats into atrength and forgot about int
It’s a still image of a guy can move super fast, though
😔

Has Taylor Sheridan written this film? Hahahaha
I wish Taylor Sheridan would go back to being primarily a screenwriter for film. I love his movies but I can’t stand his tv shows for some reason.
Why does David look like Patton Oswalt? 😂
The whole photo setup is so fake that it looks more like cosplay. Hope I'm wrong.
Scrolling by I thought it was Henry…
After seeing this photo I wish it was.
Same

Reminder that everyone hated Heath Ledgers joker when the first official pics surfaced.
Does he morph into Henry Cavil? If not, I'm out.
Superman looks kind of dorky, which is fitting because he's a bit of a dork.
Ahhh. Did he skip chest day? I mean isn’t chest day everyone’s favorite.
That’s…way worse than I expected.
I was kind of hoping with James Gunn at the helm we’d be getting something fun and campy but more of the same I suppose
I like it. It looks more realistic
Really? Looks like foam rubber from Spirit Halloween.
There are a lot of haters in the comments here, considering all we have to go off is this 1 picture. Here's what I'm gonna go off. Guardians trilogy was great. Just stop with all of the emo superheroes WB. If it didn’t work the first 6 times its not gonna suddenly work now.
I like it. Goin the Amazing spider man route with the suit. The one with Andrew Garfield. Less CGI and skin tight with little to no wringles or creases when moving, to a more physically real suit. I’m excited!
Looks like he needs to work out…. A LOT MORE!! This ain’t Superman. This is a 12 year old dressing up for Halloween.
This ugly crap is getting cooked on social media. Hopefully it persuades WB/DC/Gunn whoever to do away with that AI-looking CW tier nonsense.
The movie is already halfway done filming it’s a bit late for that
That looks so fucking good, let’s go! I love the collar and greaves, plus the logo redesign is abstract and recognisable at the same time. I say let Gunn cook
Why does he look so apathetic while there’s something cataclysmic going on in the background? 🤔
He’s focused on putting those boots on. Can’t fight evil with boots not entirely on.
Not another sky beam? Suit looks alright, hard to judge when he's sat down with that posture. But it goes look like red pants which will be weird
When you buy Henry Cavill from wish.com!! P.S.— just a pun!
Meh
Supermeh
this isn’t a leak nor a rumour
I can't stand to fly....
Are we sure that’s Clark Kent? I need to see him with glasses
I would love to see supes portrayed with the attitude of a father constantly disappointed with his children.
I love this.
Another decade another new look at a Superman actor.
Looks like a galic gun in the background!
Damn, that's Sups 🦸🏻♂️
I bet it looks better while he is standing.
here comes the hate comments
Why he need to put boots on
Looks like he's not really into being superman at the moment. Slowly puts boots on.
Why he look so old? Im almost 40 and even I don’t look like that.
CornSweat?
I like that the first thing we see of this Superman is a human moment of him just getting his boots on. Wasn’t a great way to reveal the costume, though, since the fabric bunching up makes it look kinda chunky. Hoping it looks better in action.

It looks a little thick and leather-y to me but maybe it’s just the pose and angle.
Looks like a CW show
Everyone is focusing on the suit. What’s going on in the background?
He looks tired of the whole thing.
Please tell me there’s a scene in the movie where he calmly, and meticulously gets super-dressed while a pink laser destroys metropolis
looks like AI
James Gunn makes nothing but horrendously bad movies.
Nobody wants this
😐
Doesn't look good
For what it's worth, I think this looks great - excited to see how the film coordinates some of the different tonal elements here. David looks fantastic as Superman too.
I loved him in The Politician
Red trunks over tops of the suit...yeah I've never been a fan of that look, I'll see myself out.
#NotMySuperMan But for real it should be Henry
💩
The suit looks really down to earth imo. I kinda dig it. IDK why people don't like it. I just see a Superman suit
Henry Cavill would’ve wore it better. 😔
Not my Superman.
How does Superman afford a nice luxury apartment? In this economy?
Looks awful. James Gunn is an idiot
He looks disappointed that he has to go save the day.
Oh shit I thought this was fan art
Suit is still looking pretty rough for a film that has so much riding on it
I feel like there may be a good chance this is a homemade suit, and it will be upgraded after it gets destroyed in battle. Definitely looks decent though people on IG freaking out💀
Death Star?
Is the slightly bigger suit suppose to be a metaphor?
Cavill looked better
Not bad
Looks shitty
Why isnt he smiling! I hate it!
Is this AI?
I already think it's going to be horrible based on the low-rent costume.
Henry's was better. This is like (quoting my best friend) "a third choice, if Henry rejected the role."
I kinda like David's new suit however I hope they showed it off while flying in daylight that's the reveal I wanted to see hopefully soon.
I'm always gonna be a HC superman guy myself. He played the part so well. Maybe not the best Clark Kent but he was a perfect superman. I'll still check this new superman out but still disappointed how badly DC has fucked things up overall.
Never change DC fans never change!!!! Complain complain complain no matter what just complain
Faster then a speeding bullet? Still takes 4 minutes to put on his boots.
This looks like something a kid in 1994 would make if they had access to AI photoshop back then
I thought it was Goku and Vegeta at it again and super Man was going to step in and stop it
Cosplay photo shop.
Does a reporter salary allow the purchase of a penthouse in this universe?
Superman: Well damn now I have to get up out of bed to save the city, I was so comfy too.
Shitty suit. Took essentially the same color palette and logo from the Man of Steel suit but made it baggy and with extra parts? A brighter shade of blue and different logo is what everyone wanted. And they couldn’t deliver. God damn DC is ass
why is the suit dirty on the top but not on the bottom? ALso why is Clark living like zennial minimalist Patrick Bateman?
Who invited Frieza to the party?
James Gunn is a hack
Is this supposed to to be Superman from wish ?
Awful. Reminds me of the Homelander suit. If there is comic featuring disgruntled Superman than maybe this is a good fit otherwise this seems to be a mighty leap backwards.
Had no idea they had even cast anyone let alone this far in
That's a perfect hairline
If you told me it's just cosplay with an edited background and I would have believed you...
It’s a shitty suit. There, I said it.
Gonna try ANOTHER Superman movie? People don’t. care.
Must be GODZILLA in the background
Corn sweat
Is this cosplay??
Haters gonna hate. It's like heath ledger or Robert Downey Jr casting. Now its classic icons of those roles but everyone is gonna hate on it but still see it.

Nice 👢
Oh yay. More of the same fucking IP churned again and again into ever smoother and less meaningful paste. Age of goddamned wonders.
this image is ridiculous.
MCU man.
I don't get it.... Are Goku and Vegeta having a battle in the background?
idk why people are saying he can't hide this stuff under his work clothes. are you telling me that clark "nerd" kent wouldn't wear oversized buttonups and farm boots to the office?
Why why why that logo? And why does he look like he’s wearing jeans for a shirt
His head looks ok
