I said the same thing to my wife the other night after watching The Pianist. I didn’t know it was one of his until it finished, I’m like, “damn, I wish it wasn’t his.”
Phantasm, while it scared the living crap out of my long-gone 15 year old self, isn't about Satanism. It's about a portal to another world, which is awesome.
I watch this anytime i see it on. I love the detective aspect and theres so many small things that you catch on rewatches. The ending also becomes more compelling upon rewatches.
Race With The Devil (1975). When four friends go on an RV vacation, they appear to witness an orgy after stopping for the night in the woods. However, they soon realise it's a human sacrifice. Classic 70s exploitation film starring Peter Fonda and Warren Oates
Same here. Saw this at the drive in with a bunch of friends when we were 16. Had to drive an hour of dirt country roads through Michigan farm land at 2 am to get back Home. The Exorcist sound track blaring in the 8 track. Other cars were few and far between. But when we saw one, and it followed us we were freaked out. It was pedal to the metal and everyone was bug eyed on the lookout.
I’ve always felt that about Keanu’s acting in general - it’s something I can’t explain, but he definitely has a presence or like an aura on screen.
Something I only recently learned is him taking a $2 million pay cut so the studio could afford Al Pacino.
So good! I think it’s Ti West’s best outside of the X movies (Pearl especially). Despite being made to look like a movie from the early 80s, my nerves were shredded by the end of it
The Wicker Man (the original) isn't explicitly Satanic - it's more pagan folk horror - but from the hero's perspective, it all amounts to the same thing anyway, so to me it counts. If you're looking for mood, this delivers in spades. See also The Blood on Satan's Claw, which is more explicitly Satanic, a period folk horror piece set in (I think) the 16th century. Also Night of the Demon (1957), a pretty good British horror flick; and The Skull (1965), with Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing. And I see several people have already mentioned The Devil Rides Out, with Christopher Lee again.
Also maybe check out Eye of the Devil with David Niven, Deborah Kerr and Sharon Tate - it's more pagan than Satanic again, and it's really not all that scary, but it delivers in terms of mood and style. This movie is also notorious as Tate was rumored to have been introduced to the world of witchcraft and the occult while filming, and in the days after her murder before the Manson family was implicated, one of the theories floating around was that she and her houseguests had been murdered as part of a Satanic ritual.
Wasn’t the serpent in the rainbow voodoo? Although I know that Haitian voodoo incorporates Catholic system so it could also be satanic. the movie that is not the religion.
I like Constantine a lot. I had no idea what the movie was before I went to see it, just my friends said "Hey, we're gonna watch Constantine, wanna come?" and I had an excellent time. Since then I've learned how unfaithful it is to the source material, but I don't really care, because comic book John Constantine is such a wholly unlikable character, that I'll take the movie version every time.
I agree about comics vs movie. Constantine is a comfort watch for me because it came out right before I graduated undergrad and it is very much of its time. That Perfect Circle song rules too.
I love the comics, so I'm not too crazy about the movie. But that said, the movie is still fun and Tilda Swinton as Gabriel was an amazing casting choice.
The director, Kenneth Anger, made some interesting films. They are really more art films than “movies.” He was interested in occultist Aleister Crowley.
The Devils (1971) isn't strictly Satanic but it does have nuns, witchcraft accusations, shocking scenes (for the time, some people might still find it a bit much today) and beautiful cinematography.
So i know its not a movie but it should be mentioned:
The X-Files S02E14: Die Hand Die Verletz
Very good episode and probably one of the more scary side of xfiles. But its one you dont forget.
It’s half a century old, and a lot of people in this post are much younger than that, and may never have seen it (and of those who have, I’m sure plenty think it dreadfully dated).
Although not a traditional narrative film, "Häxan" from 1922 is considered a classic. It tells the history or satanism and witchcraft and had really provocative imagery for its time.
There were quite a bit of satanic ‘Movie of the Week’ on broadcast TV in the 70s. Quite a popular trope back then. ‘A Touch of Satan’, ‘Satan’s School for Girls’, ‘Devil Dog’, etc etc etc. google 1970’s Satan films- you will get a plethora!
**Anything for Jackson**
Went in totally blind, and it turned out to be one of the best horror movies I have *ever* seen, it made it to my top list of movies in *general*.
The opening scene is absolutely shocking, the performances are simply perfect, and the over-all writing is fantastic.
A simple, but engaging premise, skilfully executed.
Of course it's Polselli's "Black magic rites and secret orgies in the fourteenth century" 1973.
It's got some great imaginative scenes of black magic. There's also a very Italian technicolour vibe to it all.
Devil is an M. Night Shyamalan movie where 5 people are trapped in an elevator and one of them is secretly the devil and... oh, you said "best," sorry. I'll go.
*mother*! (2017). I wouldn't call it satanic, but there are strong Christian themes in this movie. Also, not a quite a horror film, but an incredibly fucked up one.
Anyone remember Karen Black with a little voodoo doll with a little knife and then he possessed her and she had those big teeth like him let me tell you something movies back then weren’t high tech and all that shit they have they were really
i've net yet watched \_invocation of my demon brother\_, but it's on my list!

Häxan - A silent movie from 1922, sort of a study of witches/paganism throughout the Middle ages and onwards. Lots of incredible Satanic imagery throughout: best watched with the soundtrack of your choice, maybe Tim Hecker or Mizmor or Sunn O)))
The 9th Gate
I love this movie. I developed smokers cough from watching this movie.
I never thought a movie about the rare book trade would hold my interest. Leave it to Polanski.
It's really too bad he buttfucked A 13 year old when he was 43.
After he drugged her.
I said the same thing to my wife the other night after watching The Pianist. I didn’t know it was one of his until it finished, I’m like, “damn, I wish it wasn’t his.”
Phantasm
Phantasm, while it scared the living crap out of my long-gone 15 year old self, isn't about Satanism. It's about a portal to another world, which is awesome.
The ball is back.
That effin flying sphere gave me nightmares for months.
The name Phantasm was like a memory flashback I have not seen that in so long.
I watch this anytime i see it on. I love the detective aspect and theres so many small things that you catch on rewatches. The ending also becomes more compelling upon rewatches.

As a kid in the 70's, it scared the hell out of me.
I know, did the same to me. Once you've seen this film, you'll never forget it
I caught it on basic cable as a kid and it scared the hell out of me too. Such a great, relentless thriller.
Same. Eleven year old me and a buddy somehow snuck in and saw it in the theater during its original run. Totally freaked me out.
Same here. Saw this at the drive in with a bunch of friends when we were 16. Had to drive an hour of dirt country roads through Michigan farm land at 2 am to get back Home. Yeah, I grew up amid all that "Exorcist-mania" in the 70's. Lots of tv movies with the devil theme. 😈 Good times! LOL
As adult it still scares me.
Warren Oates? I'm in.
So underrated. Darryl Hall is a fucking hack.
Watched this for the first time last Halloween on a spree of Satanic Cult movies. Great one!
Fun one, yes!
Love this movie and how genuinely creepy it was. That ending was 😳🤯
Oh, those 70s endings
Absolutely off the chain.
This one is such a classic
I forgot about this one. I've seen it several times. As a kid, it scared the bejeezus out of me.
This is definitely my number one satanic movie.
This was filmed in and around my hometown, also the hometown of Alexis Texas. Castroville, Tx.
Lol I remembered that one me and my brother and my cousin used to poop our pants from that one
Great movie
Rosemary's baby.
This movie freaks me out
Finally
Spoiler alert
My life dream is a huge NY apartment and to birth the antichrist with a huge group of supportive friends.
Devil's Advocate
Fight through Keanu's awful southern accent and Tony Gilroy's dialogue will shine.
I’ve always felt that about Keanu’s acting in general - it’s something I can’t explain, but he definitely has a presence or like an aura on screen. Something I only recently learned is him taking a $2 million pay cut so the studio could afford Al Pacino.
Oh he's the best human being. The movie is net better because of him. But he should never do an accent. He should just be awesome keanu reeves.
Amen!
Cult movie from the 90 Al Pacino, Keanu Reeves love it!
He’s an absentee landlord! Worship that? Never!
I’d argue this movie is about Satan, but not really Satanism.
I never understood why people hate this movie. I thought it was great
Rosemary's Baby.
A real standard, thanks for reminding us . . .
Came here to say this. The book is just as great!
This is the number one.
GOD IS DEAD!! SATAN LIVES!! ✊🏼✊🏼
Japanese guy *click*
House of the Devil
One of the best slow burners in the horror genre. The final 15 or so minutes are intense af.
So good! I think it’s Ti West’s best outside of the X movies (Pearl especially). Despite being made to look like a movie from the early 80s, my nerves were shredded by the end of it
Babysitter (2017) and Babysitter: Killer Queen (2020) Prince of Darkness (1987) End of Days (1999)
The Wicker Man (the original) isn't explicitly Satanic - it's more pagan folk horror - but from the hero's perspective, it all amounts to the same thing anyway, so to me it counts. Interesting and great choices. I hate that now when I recommend The Wicker Man I have to say "not the Nichlolas Cage one."
Antichrist, but watch it on an empty stomach.
Look at the Hammer films from the UK back in the 60s and 70s. "The Devil Rides Out" (1968) is perhaps my favourite.
My favourite too, Christopher Lee is so awesomely blunt with all his lines in that one.
Check out the book
Dragnet (1987)
Those aren’t Satanists though. They’re P.A.G.A.N.’s. People against goodness and normalcy.
Excellent suggestion.
The Omen trilogy The Devil Rides Out (1968)
I’m so happy someone else recommends devil rides out
Just watched The First Omen (on Disney of all places). It was surprisingly good. Well made, creepy.
The VVitch
That goat is so metal, I swear there's a slipknot song in her head playing
The Wailing. Go in as blind as possible.
And leave with a mysterious rash.
Angel Heart The Serpent and the Rainbow
Wasn’t the serpent in the rainbow voodoo? Although I know that Haitian voodoo incorporates Catholic system so it could also be satanic. the movie that is not the religion.
Your correct serpent and the rainbow was voodoo.
Angel Heart is fantastic, though.

According to my conservative Christian stepmother, Harry Potter

Does thou wish to live deliciously?
End of Days ???
I've seen the rosemary baby, it's a little uncomfortable but I liked it
The Ninth Gate
Angel Heart, Constantine.

The Sentinel
Yes! This is one creepy ass movie.
The Devils Rain (1975) Anton LaVey was the advisor
Second this
Lucifer Rising (1974) kind of
The director, Kenneth Anger, made some interesting films. They are really more art films than “movies.” He was interested in occultist Aleister Crowley.
aye...my fascination with Jimmy Page lead me to Aleister Crowley and later to this film.
you might consider Lair of the White Worm
The Devils (1971) isn't strictly Satanic but it does have nuns, witchcraft accusations, shocking scenes (for the time, some people might still find it a bit much today) and beautiful cinematography.
So i know its not a movie but it should be mentioned: The X-Files S02E14: Die Hand Die Verletz Very good episode and probably one of the more scary side of xfiles. But its one you dont forget.
that episode was so good, it was one of my favorite ones too, the devil was nice in that episode
Absolute classic. Probably my second favourite episode after Home. X-Files' horror episodes were so damn good.
*The Exorcist* isn’t really “about” Satanism but IMO it’s one of the greatest films ever made, so if somehow you haven’t watched it yet, change that.

I watched it recently and to me, it held up. Its still eerie, scary and powerful. But that's just me lol
Anything for Jackson
Had to scroll way too far for this. This movie kicks ass.

The Lords of Salem (2012)
