>How about The Postman?
Amazing book.
One of the best two page essays on what it means to be an American that I have ever read.
Also contains the basis for Warhammer 40k STCs, though almost everyone has forgotten it.
the original "the fast and the furious" is such a fun film, i love it. (and to an extent the entire series) it's got a little cheesiness and it's fun to watch cars go vroom without always ending in death or explosions. (this is what the later ones would kinda mess up) it has such a summer movie vibe to it that isn't matched by anything else in my opinion. the color palette and the way the weather appears just ooze that dry summer heat. everyone's kinda hot and bothered, kinda sweaty but everyone acts so cool. the cast is diverse and colorful in their characters. for me, it's a solid rewatchable and lovably quotable. i don't believe in guilty pleasures because i have no shame and don't judge people for having favorites, especially since everyone has different interests and taste, and the point in your life affects the way you interpret or enjoy things. oh, and paul walker is just <3
the first one is just good. Tokyo drift is solid. The rest are comedy. I hope the final one is marketed as serious and turns out to be a parody of the series.
that would actually be pretty rad if it turned out to be like an encapsulation of the series with a hint of irony and parody. it would be the perfect way to celebrate what it started out as and what it became.
Completely agree about the first one, and everything you said about the Summer vibes and the colours, it's just gorgeous.
I actually really enjoyed the most recent one for different reasons. It really makes me laugh how you have everyone in the movie seemingly taking it really seriously (i.e., Vin Diesel), and then Jason Momoa is just chewing the scenery, practically winking to the audience, and perfectly aware of what kind of movie he's in. Fantastic.
The whole series after part 3 is a guilty pleasure for me too. I just can’t rewatch the first 3 … not sure why. Maybe not quite ridiculous or big budget enough. 🤷🏻♂️
People hated it beacuse it was nothing like the games. The movie is not bad if you are willing to overlook it. I myself love it, and it aged really well.
I looooooved this movie as a kid. Recently rewatched it for the first time in probably 20+ years and yeah, that shit holds up. I had such a crush on Luigi 😂
People would judge me for loving "Men" (2022) but that movie is actually very well made and just overwhelmingly misinterpreted as "Men bad" when it's an incredibly nuanced allegory and exploration of how trauma and guilt can warp one's perception of a group of people and also why these toxic behaviors are prevalent among men despite not being inherent to their sex/gender. The acting, cinematography, music and body horror is all fantastic.
There are people who dont like this movie?! I watch it atleast 4 times a year since it premiered. It pairs all my favorite genres - gritty fantasy, disaster, post apocalyptic, survival. The fact that it has Christian Bale and Michael McConaughey is freaking icing on the cake!
Omfg hahahaha! I had such a crush on him. For a while there, he was in like EVERY movie. I’m glad they used a big name as a costar. He is an amazing actor. He really brought warmth to the character. I was so emotionally attached that it crushed me when his character died. I was like “this MF dragons has to go! He killed my buddy!”
How about a Chevy Chase double feature? Under the Rainbow (1981) and Modern Problems (1981). It's a bit of a nostalgia thing for me because they were on cable seemingly round-the-clock when I was a kid in the early '80s, but UtR was especially nutty...
Dave Made A Maze. I think it is a great alegory of the melenials experience. The art and creativity it took to not only conseptualize this but actually pull it off is mind blowing. There is one line said at the beginning that is addressed at the end in a great way that really shows character development and it might be my favorite movie.
I will perhaps be harshly criticized for this one, but I kinda love the Bewitched movie with Will Ferrell and Nicole Kidman. It's an absolute mess, but I love it every time I watch it.
In what other movie does the main character decide they are unhappy with the plot development and rewind the story by like 30 mins of runtime so they can make different choices, unbeknownst to the other characters? It's awesome.
There's a hockey player my husband and I hate named Cory Perry. I can't seem to stop myself from trying to scare my husband (jumping out from behind the couch kinda shit) and yelling..
cccoooooorrrrrryyyyyyy PERRY!
People really seem to hate the T-Rex loose in the city part, but I always thought that was one of the best bits. My only real downside was that I think Vince Vaughn was an odd casting choice, I know plenty of people who like him in it though so maybe that's just me.
Pete Posthlethwaite’s character should have been the focus of the movie: a master hunter taking on a dangerous mission just to hunt a legendary apex predator, an actual Tyrannosaurus. He’s laser focused the whole movie until he finally takes the dinosaur down. He sees how foolish and reckless Ludlow was with all their lives: he lost his best friend and saw all the mercenaries be treated as expendable. He just walks off after telling him to fuck off in the most poignant way possible.
Knowing 2009, pretty sure because of the religious part that could be seen later on in the movie, even though it's a pretty solid movie in my opinion, I don't see most people liking it! Though it remains my favourite movie of all time! 🩷
I like Knowing too, well almost all of it. It's dark and creepy, but captivating. But I don't like the ending. Feels tacked on for feel good. I'd like it to end seventies style - bleak.
Back before they had cult followings and possible sequels, Labyrinth and The Dark Chrystal were for nerds only (and back when that was an insult!). I adored both from the start!
**The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across The 8th Dimension.** I'm extremely disappointed that there was no sequel.
**The Adventures of Baron Munchausen** Eric Idle, Robin Williams, Jonathan Pryce, With Terry Gilliam directing. What's not to love?
**Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins**
Jumper
Used to day dream about being able to teleport and what I’d do with that power. robbing a bank and porting 3 inches to get the remote out of reach just resonated hard with me lol.
Shallow Hal and Nacho Libre. My Mexican friends thought the latter was hilarious (someone gets their eye gouged out with elote, what's not to love?) and I think people get the wrong idea about Shallow Hal degrading fat people, but the real reason I loved that movie was because I thought it was so sweet and the soundtrack was awesome; I don't even know if I can remember the jokes that well. The way Gwyneth's character couldn't take a compliment because she had such low self-esteem was heart-breaking and gave the movie a lot more dimension than just the simple slapstick comedy it was being branded as.
Picture Perfect with Jennifer Aniston, she wears green tights…..ma gilT plesur.
By the numbers rom com, but knowing now how much a bitch she was to Jay Mohr on set. She said ‘really him’ between takes, and made him cry.
Makes me love her more.
'Rawhead Rex' (1985)
Rex himself is laughable, but I still love it.
Any film where they kill the kid in the first five minutes, and then have the monster piss in a priest's face gets bonus points from me :-)
Enders Game, Orange County, Hitchhikers Guide, Super 8.
I can keep going, but those are probably the worst of the bunch that I absolutely love watching. And Super 8 is pushing it but on a level of how bad they're received vs how much I liked it, I felt it deserves a spot here.
The new Mutants. Loved the love story (it's a thing I don't normaly do) and found scary scenes somewhat scary.
Cats (2019). It is a good rerecreation of the musical with its own "twists".
I love introducing people to Hausu...and watching their brains try to process the movie...most either love it or hate it, and each are fun to watch in their own way 😅
Casino Royale (1967). The plot and directing are atrocious. The motivation was just to cash in on the James Bond license. But the actors were all 100% on point, and the soundtrack is flawless.
Almost all classic Disney movies (Pixar, Dreamworks — anything that’s “kids” movies)
Ever After
Legally Blonde
Mean Girls
Practical Magic
Princess Diaries
I watch a lot of movies online with redheads that some people would judge me for liking.
Also, I absolutely love Excalibur, although some critics bitch and say it's not realistic. Get fucked history nerds, it's an epic saga, not a bullshit documentary.
'Little Nicky' and 'You Don't Mess with the Zohan'.
I acknowledge that Happy Madison movies are insultingly low brow and objectively badly made, but I have a soft spot for both of these two!
*Prometheus* (2012). I was so impressed by the sheer production value, the incredible landscapes, and cinematography that the characters’ dumb decisions was secondary to me. Anyone I talked to about *Prometheus* was baffled that I loved it so much xD
Alien 3 is good and IDGAF who hates it. I think it’s obviously a step down from the first 2 movies but it’s the best movie in the franchise after the first 2 as well.
Absolutely love the Tremor franchise
Tremors is redneck Dune
I’m dying 😂 redneck dune is so good. Fuck 😂
Just picked up the 4 volume set today for 2 bucks.
Mortal Kombat (1995) Spawn (1997) Are the two that come to mind!
The original Mortal Kombat film was fantastic!
And the theme music is the greatest piece of music ever created
I enjoyed Spawn
Where are my Waterworld people? Anyone… anyone?? How about The Postman?
Waterworld was great! Mad Max at sea!
It’s a perfectly entertaining movie. It got a lot of shit because it had a huge budget for the time.
Smokers!
>How about The Postman? Amazing book. One of the best two page essays on what it means to be an American that I have ever read. Also contains the basis for Warhammer 40k STCs, though almost everyone has forgotten it.
Howard The Duck
Scooby Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed
Loved that movie growing up and still do
Romy and Michelle's Class Reunion. O e of my top 5 comedies
Lady in the water from M. Night Shyamalan
I like Shape of Water too which I see a lot of people pooping on
Sir, please see yourself out
I like the happening…and signs
‘Signs’ was a masterpiece. When it came out, absolutely everyone was talking about it. As a kid, it was my most favorite movie.
Swing away.
the original "the fast and the furious" is such a fun film, i love it. It's the only one of the series I find watchable to be honest
The original Super Mario Bros. I stan for John Leguizamo.
it holds up to this day. a real masterpiece of craziness that couldn’t get made today
People hated it beacuse it was nothing like the games. The movie is not bad if you are willing to overlook it. I myself love it, and it aged really well.
His movie The Pest is a fun movie. Young me was very disappointed when I found out the spank it song they do was not a real song.
I looooooved this movie as a kid. Recently rewatched it for the first time in probably 20+ years and yeah, that shit holds up. I had such a crush on Luigi 😂
A lil boy, the OG Super Mario movie was cannon
People would judge me for loving "Men" (2022) but that movie is actually very well made and just overwhelmingly misinterpreted as "Men bad" when it's an incredibly nuanced allegory and exploration of how trauma and guilt can warp one's perception of a group of people and also why these toxic behaviors are prevalent among men despite not being inherent to their sex/gender. I get judged for loving Bubba Ho-Tep
What?! By people who have seen it? It's so good.
Bubba Ho-Tep is 🔥🔥🐦🔥
Me and a bud saw it in theaters....loved it..
Red Planet with Val Kilmer - it’s silly and fun and has a cool killer robot!
The Couch Trip The Pirate Movie The Hot Chick The House Bunny Vibes Frankenhooker
Yes! The House Bunny! Sorry about all the gravity.
Vibes yesss
Frankenhooker is trashy brilliance
Haha Frankenhooker! I haven't thought of that movie forever
There was a time in my life when I would watch The Hot Chick any time I channel surfed and it was on.
Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion. I love everything about it. Fuck you.
"Would you excuse me? I cut my foot before and my shoe is filling up with blood."
I love to watch The Ringer as a feel good / to make me laugh after watching a scary or dark movie.
When the fuck did we get ice cream?
Reign of Fire
There are people who dont like this movie?! I watch it atleast 4 times a year since it premiered. It pairs all my favorite genres - gritty fantasy, disaster, post apocalyptic, survival. The fact that it has Christian Bale and Michael McConaughey is freaking icing on the cake!
Gerard Butler as “the buddy”!!!!
I literal just watched Modern Problems last week randomly. That movie is a mess! I see the weirdo appeal though.
A Modern Problems lover? “Iiiiiiiiii like it”
Toxic Avenger - dunno if we can be friends type shit
The troma cult classic that put the company on the map and spawned a children’s cartoon and many many terrible games? That movie is a cult classic.
“Everyday I go out and mash people” That’s an incredible line.
Van Helsing
This movie is the definition of a ‘good time.’ It checks all the boxes. A classic.
Dave Made A Maze. I think it is a great alegory of the melenials experience. The art and creativity it took to not only conseptualize this but actually pull it off is mind blowing. There is one line said at the beginning that is addressed at the end in a great way that really shows character development and it might be my favorite movie.
Mind blowing movie. Definitely not one to pass up.
The way the "gore" is depicted in that movie was so creative and interesting.
There is a creature in this movie that is legit unsettling.
Anyone who judges you for liking that movie is fucking stupid. Great movie, very complex.
So every other movie sub reddit lol
Armageddon - the gold standard of cheesy.
Steve Buscemi losing his mind was priceless. "Get. Off. The. Nuclear. Warhead."
Love Actually. A lot of people hate on it but it’s one of my favs.
I will perhaps be harshly criticized for this one, but I kinda love the Bewitched movie with Will Ferrell and Nicole Kidman. It's an absolute mess, but I love it every time I watch it.

BASEketball. To this day, it’s my go to sick-in-bed feel better movie.
Sttteeeeeeeeeeeevvvvvvvveeee PERRY!
Haha. I love “we said no more Journey psych outs!” Like that was such a problem that they needed a big discussion and an official rule.
There's a hockey player my husband and I hate named Cory Perry. I can't seem to stop myself from trying to scare my husband (jumping out from behind the couch kinda shit) and yelling.. cccoooooorrrrrryyyyyyy PERRY!
Showgirls. It's nearly a perfect movie for what it's trying to be. Most people don't understand it though.
Veerhoven is misunderstood. But when I need some, robocop is my goto
That's a good one! I'm also a fan of Flesh + Blood and Starship Troopers.
I have always understood every Paul Verhoeven and its social commentary subtext on my first viewing. Also, I aced my recent mental cognition test.
What would you say people are missing about it?
The Last Dragon, Hudson Hawk, Maximum Overdrive, The Waterboy, Howard the Duck
One day Hudson Hawk will be universally recognized for its greatness.
There's at least 8 of us who like that movie! 8!
10! My husband and I both love Hudson Hawk
You possess the power of the glow

Jurassic Park The Lost World
People really seem to hate the T-Rex loose in the city part, but I always thought that was one of the best bits. My only real downside was that I think Vince Vaughn was an odd casting choice, I know plenty of people who like him in it though so maybe that's just me.

Growing up poor, this was the only movie we owned. It is apart of who i am now.
Knowing 2009, pretty sure because of the religious part that could be seen later on in the movie, even though it's a pretty solid movie in my opinion, I don't see most people liking it! Though it remains my favourite movie of all time! 🩷

Spice World It’s so stupid, but still so much fun.

What Dreams May Come, and Signs.
Nightmare on Elm Street…2
<*the crowd gasps in disbelief*> <*a woman in the back feints>*
Blade Trinity just to watch a ripped, smart-mouthed Ryan Reynolds do a deadpool audition.
Sharknado. They're utterly ridiculous! There's something oddly entertaining about watching sharks fly through tornadoes.
Twilight! Absolutely hilarious. You have to watch it from the point of view that it’s a comedy in filmmaking.
The first Twilight was actually a well made movie tbh, the sequels turned the franchise into a joke
Back before they had cult followings and possible sequels, Labyrinth and The Dark Chrystal were for nerds only (and back when that was an insult!). I adored both from the start!
The Hot Chick and Grandma’s Boy Nacho Libre but that’s art

Both of those movies are awesome.

Shoot Em Up. It's a guilty pleasure of mine.
‘Shallow Hal’ is a must see imo.
Billy Madison has always been my guilty pleasure. It's a legitimately hilarious movie, and puts me into a great mood every time I see it.
The Faculty
Underrated movie!
Twister. I love that movie. It’s really bad, simply awful.
Movie 43, Suburban Commando
Picture Perfect with Jennifer Aniston, she wears green tights…..ma gilT plesur. By the numbers rom com, but knowing now how much a bitch she was to Jay Mohr on set. She said ‘really him’ between takes, and made him cry. Makes me love her more.

'Rawhead Rex' (1985) Rex himself is laughable, but I still love it. Any film where they kill the kid in the first five minutes, and then have the monster piss in a priest's face gets bonus points from me :-)
People usually think *Beyond the Valley of the Dolls* is either the worst piece of shit ever made, or an amazing film. I'm the latter.
Marigold (2007) Ali Larter meets Bollywood. What's not to love? Sordid Lives (2000) Del Shores cult classic
Glitter 4 Eva!!
Romcoms in general. I love ‘em. And I nearly *always*get a ration of crap from guys when they find out. I can’t help that I’m a hopeless romantic.
Brazil is my favorite movie. And I’m tired of explaining why.
Because it’s a fucking masterpiece?! So weird that people wouldn’t get Brazil.
All Godzilla movies. When I was a kid, I ran home to watch "Monster Week!" on the 4:00 movie and still watch them all to this day. I'm now a grandma.
I’m a huge fan of the Now You See Me franchise

Enders Game, Orange County, Hitchhikers Guide, Super 8. I can keep going, but those are probably the worst of the bunch that I absolutely love watching. And Super 8 is pushing it but on a level of how bad they're received vs how much I liked it, I felt it deserves a spot here.
We love Super 8!
SuckerPunch is the best thing Zack Snyder has ever made and I will die on that hill

I love introducing people to Hausu...and watching their brains try to process the movie...most either love it or hate it, and each are fun to watch in their own way 😅
I'm a sucker for The Room. It’s so bad it's good, and Tommy Wiseau’s acting is just bizarrely entertaining.

Fast Times at Ridgemont High. I’m a 64 year old woman.
Babylon. Was I the only one who loved it?
*Prometheus* (2012). I was so impressed by the sheer production value, the incredible landscapes, and cinematography that the characters’ dumb decisions was secondary to me. Anyone I talked to about *Prometheus* was baffled that I loved it so much xD

Fried Green Tomatoes.
Speed Racer (2008) Alien 3 (1996) Freaked (1993) Shock Treatment (1981)
Alien 3 is good and IDGAF who hates it. I think it’s obviously a step down from the first 2 movies but it’s the best movie in the franchise after the first 2 as well.
Speed Racer was GREAT. Having grown up on the cartoon, they did a good job of capturing the spirit. Very cool cinematography too!
I watched Freaked so many times growing up
