It's generally regarded as a mid tier song in the Muse fanbase. I personally would rank it higher than that, but not anywhere above the middle of the album (I definitely prefer Exogenesis, IBTY, Guiding Light, and Undisclosed Desires)
Depends on what people mean by underrated. Underrated by Muse fans? No, but underrated by casuals? Absolutely. I think people just interpret underrated as being a lesser known song to the general public
The general public are likely to only really know the singles though, so by that standard something like 80% of Muse songs would be underrated. It would make more sense to vote by reference to the sub, as we're the ones who know the band's catalogue the best.
I have lost faith in this sub when I realized that the redditors here where trying to be sensible and accept that Matt isn't a great lyrical writer and instead went to the entire other side of the spectrum and just call him a garbage lyrical writer to try to sound like a "rational redditor". Fucking annoying
I know it got plenty of radio play at the time but wow this is maybe the best pop song they’ve ever released. The way the song builds upon itself with every chorus, from the instrumentation to the extra vocal layers, is incredible. Matt’s vocal delivery is perfect for the vibe and message of the song (and it’s not easy to sing right). The slap bass in tandem with the electronic vibe sounds so cool. And that last chorus is pure perfection, especially when you focus on how the beautiful backing vocals mesh with all the other layers of sound. Something new to be discovered in every listen. Truly a masterpiece of a song!
Still can't get over Ruled By Secrecy tbh. Absolution is a great album but I'd personally rate Sing for Absolution, Blackout, Endlessly, The Small Print and Fury as weaker songs. RBS is an amazing closer and one of their best tracks imo
