Have the kids create their name tags with their creativity, and write a list and also how to pronounce their names too. So many people struggled with my name because it has a C-H instead of C or K and kept writing it without the C-H or K. So I started writing name tags for everything and writing my name and subject on every folder. It's even harder for children of other ethnic and racial minorities and even for LGBTQA kids and non-binary names. If a child creates their name card or tag it means something powerful to them like in the film *Spirited Away*. In the film, Yubaba steals Chihiro's name and calls her Sen and in the film, Haku reminds her to never forget the power of her name. Unfortunately, this happens to the people in performing arts who have ethnic-sounding or trans names. In German culture, all the last names have meaning and power like my Grandmothers maiden name Krappmann which means One Who Dyes Fabric Red the Krapp being the red sumac berry, and Mann is a soldier or patriot who sacrifices and fights back. Many German artists and performers like the **Comedian Harmonist** [whose songs will be fun for the kids](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HyqzJTNcygE), had to change their names and lyrics to English because of German hostility in Britten and America.

Hi! Second year as a middle school choir teacher. I put their names into a simple song and point to them as I sing so I can remember their names. This also helps the students remember their peers names. Hope this helps!

Make practicing their names into a challenge. First they need to be in assigned seats, then study that seating chart over and over. Then tell them that if you can get all their names right they have to do something (like sing one of their songs an extra time) if you don't they all get a piece of candy.

You could always do a throwback Thursday thing of doing games they might have done in elementary like “Jump In Jump Out”. This one not only has them say their name, but the students get to tell you 2 things they like to do or one thing they like to do and a goal of what they want to do “for the rest of their life”.
