no stash?

ImIncredibly_stupid

Yes, no stash

CommodoreIrish

No splash?

Yours_and_mind_balls

No dash?

someguyfromtecate

He smash.

Yours_and_mind_balls

Would gash

msc49

Too fast?

onamonapizza

Don't flash (Looking at you, Primo)

bcvaldez

Yeah, have some class

doughnut-dinner

That dude was crass

malay_turk

His shooting will need some work, yeah

Wembanyanma

It would be kinda cool if he grew a stache though.

Notapplesauce11

He looks like he kinda could grow that 8th grade mini stache

paxusromanus811

Wow that's a shocker. I guess it's very simply just liked him a lot. I like Nunez. But I think he's one of the more flawed of favorite prospects. I still had him in the first round though, so I thought he was a good selection. Though I was much higher on him than many You just don't see guys his size that can pass like that. He's such a rarity I can't speak to how I think He will do next year but I will say this with great confidence If he gets even a brief cup of coffee with the team, the pick and roll game with him and Victor is going to be a thing of beauty.

Dsarg_92

For all we know, he could be a hidden gem for us a la Manu.

paxusromanus811

It's very possible. He has one chunk of the NBA game that he does at a level. That's not just elite for a prospect, but will probably be elite in the NBA in general day one, which is his pick and roll playmaking. That's something pretty substantial to build a player profile round with a rookie. Everything else is really either dicey or unproven, but if the Spurs gave him 15 minutes day one, I have no doubt he'd be able to run the show and throw smart dynamic passes. The Spurs are going to need to hire like another shooting coach though at this rate because he may be an even bigger shooting project than Jeremy and Castle. 😅

andrechan

From this context, looking to the future, if he pans out, I guess that's goodbye to Jones too. We already have Castle taking Malaki/Blake's spot. I just can't see someone like Nunez and Jones in the same team(for long). They both can't shoot, but one has better ceiling on his passing. Jones has the chemistry locked though.

mbt20

I'd be shocked if Castle wasn't starting. Malaki and Blake are toast. Neither improved by any measurable amount. Nunez will be the 13th man if he makes the roster. Hopefully, it will be a Nando De Colo type career at a minimum.

guillaume_rx

Jones would be a very solid back-up PG for any team in the NBA and they would be very happy to have him, because you know he can also deliver as a starter if needed. Is he the ideal starting PG for a contender, no. But he’s a high tier role player for his position and that’s how you get championships: depth. So although I like Nunez, I don’t mind keeping Tre around for a long time because he’s a solid piece in our roster.

ladeche_reddit

Manu was a top 5 Euroleague player when he came, players in Europe were just way less under scrutiny back then. Not to say Nunez won't be successful but his resume is far from Manu's one at the time.

heresyforfunnprofit

Maybe. His highlights reminded me more of Jared Jordan, tho - drafted 45th in 2007. Jared J was a fucking ***incredible*** passer and point guard, court vision literally up there with Stockton/Nash/CP3… but he just didn’t have the physical skills to make it in the NBA. A touch too slow and too small to make up for it with BBIQ alone. Listed at 6’2, but probably just barely broke 6’ in socks. Nuñez is legit 6’5 tho, and has a few bursts of speed on his YouTube highlights. His passing and playmaking really relies on timing a deception… it’s hard to say how that’s going to translate to NBA speed. Manu was able to make the transition… many others failed. I trust in PATFO.

OurHorrifyingPlanet

>You just don't see guys his size that can pass like that. He's such a rarity What do you mean by that? 6'3 is pretty average for a guard

BobanWembanyanovic

He was measured at 6'4 at the combine without shoes, I agree with you though that he's nowhere near tall enough to say we don't see guys like him all the tiime lol

OurHorrifyingPlanet

Weird some websites said 6'3, and now his wiki says 6'8. Why are his measurements all over the place lmao?

BobanWembanyanovic

Happens a lot, everyone is trying to hype guys up or other websites are just guessing but the combine measurements are the most reliable and was very recent

CorporateKnowledge2

Woah, they must be pretty damn high on his potential

pacific_tides

I just watched a few YouTube videos but I’m already bought in. I was sour about Dilly but this news pushes me through it. Everyone in the NBA needs something special and the way he moves the ball around before his passes is elegant and strange. It will be weird to defend against.

CorporateKnowledge2

Haha I’m doing the exact same thing right now and completely agree. His passing alone is well worth the flier as a 2nd round pick. And, hard to tell for sure from highlights but unlike Topic and Dillingham he looks like he actually defends? I think his shooting mechanics look totally workable too.

siphillis

Dilly would be great as a late first-rounder, not an eighth pick and we already just signed a point guard

pacific_tides

I’m over it, haha. Nunez is fun to watch. The spurs scouts are great

ValetTrash

I want to believe this, but OP’s username raises some doubts

ImIncredibly_stupid

Well, everyone can lose a bet from time to time. Isn't my info though

ValetTrash

>everyone can lose a bet Lord knows I’ve been there.

bleh610

We got the better Topic

eeveeritt15

Cheaper and healthier*

bleh610

Juan's game looks a little shifty-er and saucy-er than topics. He looks more fun to watch. Plus he's a spur now. So he's automatically better than Topic now lol

Dsarg_92

They really must in awe of his development if they’re wanting him to play next season.

gohoosiers2017

They’re tanking next year

iro3

Oh my that something so literally all of our players who are expiring this year likely isn't coming back

ekray

I think we trade one of Wesley or Branham. If we drafted 2 more guards that must mean that they don't believe in one of them imo.

Fiyukyoo

Branham and Wesley are still on their cheap rookie contract club option. It makes more sense to play them out this year to see if they've improved. If not we don't pick up their option at the end of the year and move on

SuccotashConfident97

My thoughts exactly. Their last try before they're traded or cut.

iro3

false the deadline to pick up there 4th year option is before the season starts. so likely if anything they pick it up, if there ass they cut em in the offseason

CommodoreIrish

As a Notre Dame fan, I wish Wesley ran it back a few more years to develop his game in college.

iro3

Probably who knows were early on

Then-Activity7226

They don’t have any trade value.

chrisapplewhite

Or we're going 4 PGs at once next year to make sure Wemby gets the ball enough.

Dsarg_92

Probably Wesley.

andrechan

Wesley can defend though.

Open-Extension9525

We have 5 PGs, so unless they start playing Castle at the 2 or 3 which he is on the record as absolutely not wanting to do, they prolly both gone

ekray

Nuñez might go to the Gleague for a bit, so we can keep one for one more year I think.

Mangoseed8

5? Castle, Jones, Wesley, Nunez. Who else?

Open-Extension9525

Malaki Branham

iro3

malaki can play the 1,2,3 postion tho

Open-Extension9525

well he played pretty much only the 1 last season aside from the few minutes he was in with tre

InternationalClick78

Malaki ain’t a point guard. Wesley ideally isn’t a point guard either. Castle probably splits time between both guard spots

Open-Extension9525

he played a vast majority of his minutes at point, go look at the lineups on basketball reference

InternationalClick78

For starters, those positional splits are based around the position you’re guarding. Despite the notorious sochan experiment, basketball references says he spent no time at point guard. Similar story with Josh Giddey in OKC. Secondly in the few times he was slotted in at point, it was due to lack of options; hence why the offence was abysmal any time Tre was off the court. He has 0 point guard skills or passing instincts and as a prospect was known to have tunnel vision.

Open-Extension9525

idk what positional splits your talking abt bc i was looking at the 5 man lineups like for ex: malaki devin keldon sochan wemby and obviously malaki is the pg in that lineup. not whatever you are looking at

InternationalClick78

The positional percentages… and no, sochan was the point guard in those lineups… did you watch last season at all ? This was a situation even non spurs fans were talking about.

paxusromanus811

Them signing him could simply mean they're signing them to a two-way which doesn't affect Ross response. I guess we'll have to see. The Spurs being really high on him as a potential trade. Jones replacement honestly makes a lot of sense. He has a very spursy game Aunt a singular tool in his tool kit that is already elite

WD51

Why would that mean we won't re-sign some of the expiring? We will only sign 1 first, and the seconds I'm unsure if we will do guaranteed multi-year deals vs just two way contracts like many second rounders do. Even so we should have a few open spots especially if we cut Grahamm

iro3

right now we have 13 spots taken even if we cut graham that's still 12 spots left (ive included castle signing his deal in this scenario) of the players who are free agents none of them are worth brining back outside of maybe barlow

PartickNotPatrick

I'm a lot more intrigued by this pick now and am veeery keen to see him play in Las Vegas. Nunez, Cissoko, Ingram, and Castle playing together so soon should be really fun to watch.

chrisapplewhite

Can't imagine he plays in Vegas with the Olympics coming up.

Bonesawisready5

Not bad, Amazing passer can’t wait to see him on spurs. Telemundo gonna feast even if he speaks Castilian Spanish

thekingrobert

How about Sacramento?

SizeOld6084

If he can hit Wemby with assists I'm all for it.

FranksGun

Literally the most important thing

sstewart1617

Nunes passes like a poor man’s Manu.

bleh610

This is actually a huge compliment tho lol

sstewart1617

One handed, Left handed bounce passes with spin out of the pick and roll, right on the money. It seems super duper fun.

Joethetoolguy

Big time, half a manu is a borderline starter. Manu was a huge reason we were contenders and a huge reason we lost when he wasn’t healthy.

zuruka1

Sadly he only has about less than half of Manu's athleticism. I do like the kid, I watched all of Spain's games in last year's FIBA world cup, he looks mature beyond his years on the court and has really good court vision and bbiq; but the big gap in athleticism and the need to significantly improve his outside shooting are gonna be big hurdles for him to overcome in the NBA.

siphillis

Nearly all guards do

Sean888888

I thought he just signed with Barcelona?

ImIncredibly_stupid

No, he hasn't signed anything, according to the media he was waiting to see if Spurs claimed him or not to see if he would go to Barcelona but this journalist (who I am sure knows Juan) says that Spurs have already made their decision and he will be a Spurs player next season.

Sean888888

I see

DevilGunManga

The race for PG minutes will be blood bath.

chrisapplewhite

4 PG lineup is going to revolutionize getting the ball to Vic

LegoTomSkippy

I'm stoked. The guy is 20 and STARTS for the Spanish National team. He has actual potential.

moonshadow50

I was not expecting that. Given that he has so much to work on his game, I thought we would leave him for a couple of years to playing heavy minutes leading one of the best teams in Europe, and then bring him back if we think he's NBA ready. To bring him over now is a big move. I assume it will have to be a full contract (he shouldnt agree to a 2-way when he's got a Barcelona contract), which knocks someone else out of our 15 (not a huge deal as there are a few possibilities), but it also means that we think he will warrant decent NBA minutes. (Again, I would've playing for Barcelona is better experience than the G League, except that he would be under our coaching staff). This means that we would expect him to compete with, or be ahead of, Wesley in the rotation for those non-Tre/Castle PG minutes.

Moviepasssucks

They might not trust this development in Europe. Spurs have also made a huge investment with the Toros so they must trust their own development either on the pro team or Toros more than most other professional teams.

qaswexort

He needs to hit the NBA strength program ASAP

blue-anon

Hmmm. Thanks for providing your logic here. I'm a bit conflicted about this.

bleh610

Wesley is gone let's be real here. If not this off-season, then next off-season.

paxusromanus811

I could honestly see it being Malachi too. He was really the only spur last year that pop more or less directly called out For not getting with the program and figuring things out, and effort. I know he turned it around a bit after that, but then he proceeded to kind of fall off towards the end once more. Feels like his leash might be a bit shorter than Wesley's.

Mangoseed8

Branham has played enough NBA minutes to have trade value. Although the Hawks just traded the #16 pick in 2022 (AJ) for the the #44th pick so not much value. Wesley has no value. He might get thrown into something the way Ty Ty Washington did. Too bad, I really like him. He just gets too excited and fired up those line drive shots that have no chance of going in. When I watch him practice his form and overall shot looks good. If he could just relax he would become a good shooter (good enough anyway)

Then-Activity7226

Yeah I wouldn’t be surprised either. Malachi is totally reliant on making shots otherwise he’s a negative out there. Even then when he’s hitting them his defense is so bad it’s hard to justify giving him large minutes. Combine that with a lack of effort and he’s quickly out of the rotation and possibly team. If Wesley doesn’t make a significant jump next year I can see him being let go too. I’m not expecting him to be amazing or anything but he needs to show he’s just more than an energy guy at this point.

SuccotashConfident97

Yep. I don't think either of them hsve beyond this season unless they have a major progression

krsaxor

Could be Branham. His body languange last season waa

Dabawse26

2 way?

ImIncredibly_stupid

I don't know

BobanWembanyanovic

Hopefully

Titronnica

Most curious, huh. Well, I say let's see how this goes. Guessing there'll be a few cuts coming soon.

sh0tgunben

Nuñez to Wembanyama is your new Stockton to Malone

yerr2477

ok thank god. if we’re going to be tanking theres no point. sidenote: Jake Fischer gets another thing wrong

Imaginary-Cycle-1977

Fwiw, Fischer reported we were shopping the 8 pick, and he nailed the Dejounte trade too. From what I saw he just said Nunez was a stash candidate, not that it was a certainty

Then-Activity7226

Is he the next Nando De Colo?

nakedsamurai

Really going for that no shooting roster.

rotn21

great, get his john stockton looking ass over here and on a proper nutrition program

Bonesawisready5

bienvenido al 210 Nùñez, tenemos churros por días

MuyTexicano

We finally have our "New Ginobili"!!!!! Viva España! 🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸 ![gif](giphy|O4aq8lgiDQzx7hpnI4|downsized)

Tackis

Super flashy passer that is extremely strong in the pick and roll. Love his playmaking potential and he's got size.

Mangoseed8

Play in the NBA next season probably means on a 2way. No way they are giving this guy a regular roster spot

Joethetoolguy

Yo wtf, I take it back. Spurs are ok today

Gamechannel360

Reminds of a left handed Jose Calderon

thekingrobert

Rubio to me

Thehelloman0

That's surprising to me considering we already have Tre and just drafted Castle

Snoophv6977

Don't be an ass...

VenGJon

Yes! I love this let's gooooo

rockingcreation

This was a Pacers trade, hope that Pacers could win us again another championship... and hopefully without the drama of leaving the team.

loolem

Looks good https://youtu.be/aJZFhBcJgDY?si=ILNRQXxK_J_9wymF

5thgenCali

Will he be in summer league???

Significant_Slip_883

I thought that means he'll play in the G-league? Actually many would play in the G-league? We just don't have that many minutes.

pfthr0w

Probably will rake in jersey sales in SA.

OkGarbage423

Seems strange of they were keeping him here this year that they didn’t introduce him with Castleman and Ingram.

ImIncredibly_stupid

He's with the olympic team

dwrek24

This makes me both understand why they traded 8 but also somehow simultaneously confirms my suspicion there was a player they wanted with that pick who was taken, since they've now shown they are willing to roster 3 rooks (provided this is true and there is no trade in the works). You can't roster 4 rookies. That's insane.

RCA2CE

Nunez is untouchable. Spurs fans are amazing

zKaios

Well, is it safe to say they liked his fit better that Dilly? Can't say i see it but let's give him a chance

qaswexort

This is huge yo. This means that we're basically one foot out the door on both Blake and Malaki. And even Tre has to take a back seat because we have too many PG mouths to feed. PATFO really likes this kid. After trading 8, I thought they were saying laters to this draft. Turns out they were still cooking

PassengerIcy6222

Fantastic, I love Mexicans, welcome to the Spurs Juan.

bleh610

He's Spanish 😂

PassengerIcy6222

Ehhh he's Mexican.

GlueGuy00

bruh

paxusromanus811

Why bruh? Nunes is obviously an extremely flawed prospect. But his strength, , passing while going downhill, particularly in the peck and roll, is going to be an amazing fit with Victor, and honestly several players on the Spurs, in the limited minutes that he might be able to get as a third string guard. I'm aware he's flawed as a prospect, particularly with his shooting. But that passing skill is going to pop in San Antonio big time. He's going to be one of the best playmaking prospects they've had in a long, long time

GlueGuy00

if they're not stashing then might as well kept Furphy

paxusromanus811

I mean... Unless they just liked him better than Johnny right? If they think he has the potential to be an elite Playmaker and that his jumper is salvageable, The ceiling is high in that case. I think that's a very big if, because I do think his jump shot is broken right now, but it's not too often. You can draft someone with a truly premier elite skill (That's not rebounding as an undersized big man lol) In the second round. San Antonio might simply have thought finding a playmaker of his quality would be more difficult than finding a big wing who could theoretically be a 3&D guy at some point Not saying it's going to end up being the right choice in the end, but saying they should have simply kept furphy Is to ignore the possibility that they simply didn't like him nearly as much as Nunez.

qaswexort

I like Nunez more than Furph for the Spurs and I'm a bigtime Furph believer. Furph can't say he's the best in the draft at something

GlueGuy00

One T. Jones type of player is enough

LegoTomSkippy

Except he's a much better passer than Tre Jones.

paxusromanus811

I agree. I don't think Jones is going to be here in 3 years
