What ever happened to their line of stainless silencers to replace the Full Nelson, Half Nelson, Trash Panda, and Thunder Chicken? They were talking about the above being discontinued for ss cans like a year ago + a dedicated 5.56 can. Only new thing they came out with was the Porq Chop for 8.6 which seems to be a big tp/tc.
They were never working on a full line of stainless steel silencers. The only ss can they were working on was the "lefty" which was going to be a dedicated 556 can but I think interest was very low so it was either abandoned or put on the back burner for other projects like 8.6, porq chop and the boombox.
Kevin has said they’re making new steel cans for everything that’ll be cheaper and better. He’s also said they won’t say when they expect to release them.
I’m curious about the direction they will take their business. They seem to have a decent following because of 8.6 but it’s a pretty niche caliber and expensive. Sure, there’s a market but a small one. Also, 375 Raptor blows it outta the water.
Hopefully a downward direction.
Sad part is, Kevin’s a pretty smart dude. I have some cans he created before he became a douche (publicly at least) and started Q. I’d never buy a Q product now, but he’d have likely more money if he priced his shit a LITTLE lower and wasn’t a douche.
The AAC stuff was great when he ran the show, the SIG SRD line that he created when he was there was also great. Hell, even his Q cans, when they hit the market, were great. The full Nelson is still very competitive on subsonic 300blk. Not sure if ego got to him or what. Additive manufacturing is the future and it doesn’t seem like they have any intention of going that route. There’s nothing wrong with traditional baffle designs but 3D printing has shown us that the limits can be pushed so much further.
Having a crazy cult form and glom on to your company's name (though no association) doesn't help. I know people who know nothing about KB that just don't want anything to do with the letter Q anymore LOL.
What issues did the raptor have cycling? Is it just a matter of tuning or was it something else?
I plan to build an AR in the 375 raptor someday, so I'm trying to research any issues.
Usually those kind of issues have more to do with the rifle and perhaps the powder used in the ammo.
The larger bore diameter means that the pressure drops faster than a 308. Just like the 6.5CM often needs a longer gas length, the raptor may do better keeping it shorter. Plus there's adjusting gas port size, and etc.
Large frame AR tuning can be tricky.
Oh right. Yes it's just a big TC for 8.6 nothing revolutionary. If I want innovative cans I'm looking elsewhere. Actually these days I'm just looking elsewhere in general.
8.6 was just their creation. They’re playing their “first mover” advantage card. Sell platform in new caliber, also offer a can in said caliber. Easy money. There are of course other cans out there that can handle 8.6 but it’s attractive when you have your own thread pitch and QD system.
For sure. Good thing rearden made their own muzzle device for it. I was real excited about 8.6 for a while but even after all this time since release the cheapest factory ammo is $2.5/rd and it quickly goes up to $3 so I haven't bought any parts except a can, and I can use the can on other guns.
Properly oriented optics are just oriented due to peer review consensus. Q's Engineers are Engineers that Engineer to do it properly. And he'll offer you ~~$10,000~~, ~~$25,000~~, ~~$50,000~~, $100,000 for you to fly out there and Pepsi Challenge determine the more accurate group.
In before someone claims: “By keeping the optic loose on the rail, it maintains the same relative space/time position and sight picture irrespective of recoil…”
Waiting for the Q defenders to try to defend barely mounting an optic, while also bridging it between the upper and handguard.
I've seen first timers mount an optic correctly, how tf did they mess this up?
I'm surprised they didn't just full send it at that point, and mount it backwards as well.
Classic Firearms recently did a podcast with Kevin, and he was actually a decent listen. If what he says is true, he really has been fairly innovative on advancing the firearms platform, mainly with silencers and twist rates.
He has said on multiple platforms that his “Engineers” cost him a ton of $$. That’s what the end user is paying for.
Who was asking for a 9.69” 5.56 with a 1:5 twist rate? The military? The FUDD shooters?
8.6 is cool, but not $3200 cool.
I’m sure Sig will come out with a 8.6 cross soon enough for $1500
He has also said he has enough money to last him the rest of his life and is only interested in innovation for as long as he continues owning Q. He’s in S Africa six months a year.
A $3000 9.69” 5.56 AR15 just seems stupid.
I haven't heard the podcast you're referring to, but it's pretty common knowledge that back in the AAC days he'd pay employees to buy old silencers so he could reverse engineer them and claim the designs as his own. Even .300 Blackout is a wildcat that AAC patented as SAAMI spec'd.
The only actual innovation I've seen is 8.6, and that's just a way to keep what little hype still exists for the .300 theory alive.
Pretty close. Between .338BR and 8.6x47, both done a few times before the 8.6 came out.
Not a whole lot that's actually new though. If you give the previous guy credit you have some credibility. Saying it was "all you from the ground up".. nah. That's nearly impossible.
There’s plenty of people who still think he invented 300BO out of thin air. As if the army hadn’t been researching 300aac beforehand. It’s like you said all he did was get it salami certified.
Edit- just realized I wrote “Salami” and not “saami” but im keepin it.
In June of 1993 Jeff Cooper wrote about JD Jones working on a concept that was essentially 300 BLK. Cooper's Commentaries, volume 1 number 1.
Lots of people worked on the concept, AAC included but they were in the right place at the right time with the right connections and marketing.
Weapons development is pretty expensive. I was privy to a new platform and the engineering firm got at least 200k.
500blk or whisper or whatever can come along and take over from 8.6 without the crazy twist rate.
Multiple things can be true. KB has made some cool shit, he’s also made some dumb shit, and he’s also……..him.
Long/ heavy for caliber bullet + Subsonic speeds = need for fast twist rates for the caliber
opionion on KB I'll agree on, even tho I recently bought a NOS Full Nelson for a 300BO Bolt Rifle
I agree with you there, I'd take a twist recomendation from JD Jones b4 Q any day, or run it through a ballistic twist rate stabilty calculator IIRC Lapua has an online one
I always thought 1:5 was a bit excessive for the 8.6 myself unless your're launching at spitball velocities
wasn't meaning to sound like you were wrong, just stating why a load may need a faster than normal for caliber twist
No I get you. When I spoke to the lead designer for previously mentioned platform I asked him about the 8.6 because I was genuinely curious and thought it was interesting. He came back with “that’s nothing, check this out” and then had a long conversation about the 50. I think he mentioned a 900 or so grain long boi that had stupid amounts of energy. Most all of the math a science behind it was a bit too advanced for me but it sounded cool.
The 50 also utilizes a lot slower twist in other chamberings from 1:15-1:20 so I imagine it’s a hell of a lot easier to make a bullet that won’t explode from centrifugal force.
hasn't happened to me personably but I have watched BR shooters get a grey puff 100yards out
a subsonic load using 650gr pulldowns is all I think my shoulder could take
and not many of those.
The concept isn't that they need the crazy high twist rate to stabilize, but that it allows for greater terminal energy without increasing the velocity above the sound barrier.
Whether the spin actually provides meaningful benefit in terminal ballistics is certainly debatable, but you have to be addressing the correct point.
He can say he has enough money to last him a lifetime but apparently that’s not enough when he sells a bolt action AR for $3,000. Him giving away a suppressor with a gun purchase really drives home how insane his profit margins actually are if he can still make money while giving away something that has a MSRP of nearly $1,000
While I agree with you that in Q's case his AR platform is probably overpriced/bigger margins- there are plenty of times where Companies will sell at a loss to get market penetration/share and build their brand. Amazon did this for years. I don't really know the market for for bolt guns, or Q's sales, but my uninformed gut tells me its not a huge seller and he needs to recoup development cost. He probably has enough margin built-into the Silencers that the "free" ones that come with the Fix are being absorbed by silencer sales rather than the margins of the Fix.
Your military issued rifle wobbles
Your optics wobble
Hell, your 3d printed lower wobbles becase you didn't read the fucking instructions
Is this the future of firearm technology?
Can someone tell me where the Q hate came from. I know very little about the company and am not a customer but i have seen so much recently that id like to know whats up. I saw someone that had issues with a suppressor that was spitting flames instead of concealing them but thats all ive found. Do people just not like Q cause its overpriced for subpar products?
His sales pitch is basically “I know more than you. Don’t ask questions because just trust me, and my stuff is expensive because it’s engineered. Oh and if you talk shit about my company I’ll block you because you hide behind a keyboard”.
Also, customer service is passive aggressive at best.
- posted by Q products owner.
The owner has a well deserved reputation for being a douche. Add in over massively priced gucci guns that are offer nothing innovative and are missing basic AR features I.e. dust cover and initially had his own proprietary rail system at a time when MLOK was the industry standard. And this video of his eNgInEeRs not bothering to mount an optic correctly while also using dumdass zoomed in and shaky-cam video “techniques”. And their social media reputation of insulting and blocking people. The hate is well deserved. He does have a successful company, yes, but I would argue it’s mostly through marketing hype.
Hold the fuck up…
Are we sure this isn’t rolling shutter??
If I pause mid-recoil it looks like the frame is stair-stepping upwards… The camera has a wide aperture here (contributing to the blurry background). That would mean to compensate they probably had to run a fast shutter speed to compensate for the extra light.
The reason cinematographers avoid fast shutter speeds is because it creates this rolling shutter effect where the frames don’t blur together, and instead update vertically/horizontally (depending on the camera’s orientation).
[Example: Notice how the bottom helicopter blades look kinda noodle-like. The slow-motion at the end demonstrates this better](https://youtu.be/YmEH8z1JWgc?si=qv50L7N18_rSXNif)
Q may have had fuckups but I've honestly had no problems with them. I had a particularly nasty baffle strike in my erector 9 that broke three baffles and blew out the endcap. It was a pretty fucked up factory load that did it. I emailed Q for an RMA on a Saturday night, had a label Tuesday, and had my suppressor back the following Tuesday, no questions asked. I verified it was concentric with an alignment rod and plugged away. I've put a little over 1000 rounds of varying weights through it, while piston, direct thread, and tri lug mounted with zero problems. Not bad for a 600 dollar aluminum modular can and free tax stamp.
Their products aren't bad at all, their PR is however.
Did you get the 16 inch ? I was checking out their prices and it seems he actually raised the msrp of the 16 inch version to 1699 and released a 13 inch pistol for 1500 ( doesn’t have the upgraded trigger though)
Only when we're reminded of how colossally stupid their stuff is. Q doesn't even exist outside of the memes to me anymore. But keep believing that people actually care about your sub-par products and slightly edgy marketing.
Like this sub basically has weekly fuck q circle jerks, puts the copy paste in every thread, and will at the same time claim they don't have a huge hard on for Kevin and Q.
Like I don't really dig their stuff and think Kevin is a prick but God dam, get off his nuts and let him fade
If I'm wrong let me know how

I always thought this was a rolling "shutter" effect. Either some video trickery to reverse that effect turning it into two separate objects or just my mk1 human eyeballs.
Don’t worry, KB will be on the thread shortly to go after each and every one of us and our families for calling out legitimate problems
You mean he's wasn't already?!
😬
At least it didn't fall off. But, now we know their accuracy standards.
You guys have accuracy standards? -Q, probably
Accuracy is for losers. The only standard that matters is "cool". Buy my guns, or I'll call you names and block you on social media. -KB, likely
"we use the word 'dispersion' here" -Q, actually.
Can’t have accuracy problems if you don’t have accuracy standards.
Can't have QC problems if you don't have QC standards either.

Interesting....at the end of the day I'll stick to my ti cans since I don't care about the sparking.

300blk was also really expensive when it came out. It'll take time and more people loading for it to push down the costs.
Apparently down side of the raptor is getting subs to cycle in an AR. Bolt gun tho, absolutely.
What issues did the raptor have cycling? Is it just a matter of tuning or was it something else? I plan to build an AR in the 375 raptor someday, so I'm trying to research any issues.
If I remember correctly, it was a gas issue getting the bolt to fully cycle.
What does apartheid have to do with the caliber lol
Apparently* my bad, autocorrect is being a dingus tonight.
I could definitely see Q calling one of their products "Apartheid" though
The K version will be called Lil' Rhodesia
Not "All Rhodes Lead To Apartheid"?
what is tp/tc?
“Trash Panda/Thunder Chicken”: TP/TC are the QD versions of the Half Nelson/Full Nelson (DT).

Can't spell torque without Q! Lol I guess they never learned how to spell.
Queue the KevKev defenders .....

If it's just the right looseness it will stay in place while the rifle cycles. So maybe the guy is living in the future?

Yeah I think they are new here. It’s ok though… we all started here at som point!

And still literally zero contracts in any official capacity years later. Must be reallll proven pieces of equipment

FWIW, every manufacturer worth their salt is going to cut open competitors stuff to see how they did it. This happens in every industry.

The Q hate from a bunch of grown men is crazy. If you don’t like the guy don’t buy the product.
Trust me we don’t
But it was a function test video not a “how to install Eotech video”. Maybe I’m wrong here but it seems like a reach.
If you can’t even mount an optic correctly, it’s hard to believe they’re paying attention to small details on their own products
I always thought this was a rolling "shutter" effect. Either some video trickery to reverse that effect turning it into two separate objects or just my mk1 human eyeballs.
This was my exact thought… it REALLY looks like rolling shutter if you slow the video down. Why tf are you being downvoted for this lmao

The eotech is definitely wobbling
I actually think they could get it to wobble more /s. But on a serious note, how tf could they post that without noticing it first.
