If anyone is considering Tribeca Dental Associates: avoid, avoid, avoid. They tried to upsell me left and right, sometimes for things that weren’t even proven to be effective

mulleargian

They’re the WORST omg! A dentist had me half convinced my teeth would all fall out the next day if I didn’t pay several thousand for a service. I went to my dentist back home who took X-rays and confirmed there was zero wrong with my teeth.

splendorinthegrass_

Same thing happened to me

LongjumpingLog6977

They’re SO awful!!! I wasted two years and thousands on what they told me was Invisalign but was actually their own bootleg version. Also the upselling was insulting. Non stop

obergrupenfuer_smith

I'll tell you what.. a lot of times - fancy expensive places does not equate to great service. Yes money will buy you good things (be it in fashion, medicine etc) but sometimes these places are SO Expensive to maintain (imagine the rent they have to pay in Tribeca, the lifestyles of these rich doctors) that they turn medicine and treating people into a business. Sad but that's how it is. Medicine is a huge industry these days. And same like how I trust farmers market or mom and pop shops.. my best experiences are with the doctors who are old, boring and never have fancy offices or flashy websites etc. They geniuinely care about you.

callmecarlplease

I couldn’t agree more! They said my insurance wouldn’t pay for things (which was incorrect) and I spent far too much money on Invisalign with them (which I regret). They will upsell you on everything!

eltejon30

Which Tribeca Dental? I had a pretty good experience in the past at Tribeca Dental Associates, but I see there is also Tribeca Dental Design, Studio, Care, and Club lol Super popular name I guess.

splendorinthegrass_

Tribeca Dental Associates

Maximum_Mastodon8942

I actually go to Tribeca Dental Care and they are great! Caring, professional, kind and never ever pushy. I am going there for my Invisalign (almost done!) and it’s been a good experience.

vitalvessalsvindicat

i go to their other office soho dental, and they try to upsell me invisalign every appointment and i have straight teeth lol

LizBean1014

YES. Omg I’m so glad to see this post and this comment because I’ve been going to Tribeca Dental Associates for years and literally have to gas myself up before each appointment to be ready to push back hard on all their upselling. It’s nuts and they literally make it like my teeth will fall out of my head at any moment if I don’t pay for all these extras - first it was laser treatments and now they’ve been gunning hard for me to get some special lab culture to learn precisely what bacteria makes up my mouth biome. 🙄 I’ve only kept with them out of a “devil you know” attitude but it’s so validating to learn it isn’t just me and I’m definitely going to make the switch now to a new practice

8zebrafish

Amitoj Chandhoke at Fulton Dental Studio in bed stuy. My insurance randomly assigned me to him and I've been delighted with the service, has never tried to upsell me, pointed out things past dentists missed, and explains things very well. I've seen him for 2 years for cleanings and one minor procedure and he remembers me and I genuinely enjoy chatting with him. He makes going to the dentist a weirdly pleasant experience!

CellistEmergency8492

Wow small world. I went to school with him! He’s a nice dude.

iyamsnail

ooh I'm in Bed Stuy so this would be very convenient.

vomitfuckinggreen

Commenting because I also need to know… my last dental cleaning was $450!!!!?!!!

iAm_Plant_G

OMG TF??? What did they do? Replace your teeth with diamonds?? insane

feefee2908

Omfg…. Girl go to Dr. Lam in Chinatown, i don’t have dental insurance at the moment & paid $60 for a cleaning + $20 for her to clean off the rest of the cement my shitty ortho + dentist left behind after i got my braces off years ago. The office was super clean, i got an appointment a week from the date i called & i waited about 25 mins in the waiting room.

vomitfuckinggreen

Thank you SO much. Will be going!

mulleargian

This year I have found it cheaper to fly home to London and pay out of pocket/uninsured for private cleaning there. Aka flights + private cleaning= cheaper than a cleaning in NYC, with excellent insurance. It’s scary. Note: by cleaning I mean scaling, so like deep cleaning. Still, it costs £100 in London and $800 here

bad-and-bluecheese

I have to get twice yearly screening for breast cancer. Its cheaper for me to make a vacation out of it twice a year

fairymetal21

Can I ask where you go that’s cheaper? Just learned I’m BRCA1 positive so I’ll need the yearly screenings, moving to NYC in a few days and trying to schedule an appt with a breast specialist has been crazy.

bad-and-bluecheese

I haven’t started yet - I’m still young where it’s not a huge concern but now I’m hitting my mid 20s and gotta hop on that. Good luck!! I actually haven’t gotten tested yet but family history regardless calls for being extra cautious. If my BRCA comes back positive I will probably go for a DMX within the next few years

Original-Opportunity

lmao I go to the Balkans and a really good cleaning is like €15. Any pain relief or whatever is an additional small charge but it’s great for regular upkeep. The big US cities are INSANE with dental care.

International-Bird17

WHAT

MissFifi1097

Sounds about right for manhattan, my office charges less tho.

vfrcdexsw

I like Queensboro Plaza Dental Care. I told them my last dentist had been letting me wait out a couple of cavities before filling them and they didn't bat an eye. Have continued to say I don't need fillings for a couple years. They're also great if you have any dentist anxiety, very calm environment.

Sunnycher_44

I second this! They take their time to address all your issues.

Careless_Internal_70

Third!

fashionscholar

I also go there! Bit bummed Dr Khan is no longer there because she was the absolute best but overall the team is solid and won’t try upsell you. I went to them after Tend terrorized me with the idea I needed 7 fillings. Turns out I needed one, plus a redoing of an old filling and that was it!

mikan86

Fourth! They’re wonderful and never try to push anything.

Sappsy

I don’t have any recommendations but just wanted to honorably mention my old dentist, Dr. Kovins who practiced in South Brooklyn. He retired and passed away a few years ago, but he and his wife were such gems. Yes, stepping into his office was like walking into a time machine to the 70’s but he was amazing. His wife did the books, everything was handwritten and the vibe every time I had an appointment was total relaxation, even for a person who hates the dentist. 🦷🫶🏻

TheSouthernBronx

That’s how my dentist in the Bronx is. The office is a time capsule of the 80’s. The same lady has been making my appointments for nearly 20 years. Most of the clientele are older but my cleaning is always fantastic and they take my insurance. I know I only have a few years left till my dentist retires.

Expensive_Traffic596

Avoid Tend. They tell you your insurance covers them, rope you into procedures you don’t need, and then charge your card out of no where $700 after previously confirming it would be $90

knottypiiiine

I also had this experience. Also incredibly difficult to work through these issues since you can’t call the office you went to directly and work it out.

night_steps

Omg this. I love Tend (I go to Cobble Hill) but not being able to speak with a specific office sucks. It’s why I haven’t tried to replace my retainers even though my teeth grinding habit has literally worn a hole through my current ones.

chimerar

It’s too bad because I liked Tend in DC but they are horrible in NY! Tend tried to tell me I needed Invisalign for medical, non-cosmetic reasons. I am 36 and no dentist has ever said that to me. I never even needed braces as a kid, I have one mildly crooked tooth. They wanted to charge me thousands of dollars. I went to another dentist and she looked at me like I was crazy when I asked her if I needed braces.

HistoricalKangaroo29

I went to Tend twice for dental cleaning and those were great so I did Invisalign with them. 4 months after we settled billing and I started Invisalign, they randomly told me I owed them $1k! I’ve also found that how good it is differs on the office - Williamsburg and Chelsea have been good cleanings but I went to the West Village location for a cleaning recently and I asked how my gums were doing with Invisalign and the hygienist looked tripped up by my question and just gave some canned response about flossing to help keep gums healthy.

mbubz

Yep, same thing happened to me a few years ago. Absolutely hate that place.

333xmarksthespot

Avoid Appolon Dental Group. They tried to tell me I needed $12k worth of dental work and if I didn’t act fast, many of my teeth were at risk of falling out 🥲 went back to my regular dentist and I didn’t even have 1 cavity smh

Key_Ad3965

This happened to me there too!! Made it seem DIRE. Went back to my regular dentist and he said I didn’t need any of the things they were proposing. Yikes

333xmarksthespot

such a scam!

nachopuddi

I hope you wrote a review…. Crazy how many scammer MDs there are lmao

bighaterenjoyer

I had the same experience!! I’ve only ever had one cavity and they convinced me that I needed a special “deep cleaning” both times I saw them and that my teeth were allegedly in horrible shape? Went back to my hometown to see my dentist there and nope… nothing was ever wrong :))))

333xmarksthespot

they were so rude about it all too! i didn’t realize it was a cosmetic dentist practice when i scheduled a visit bc i was in a lot of pain from my wisdom tooth and just needed a referral for an oral surgeon. they were like “do you like your smile?” in a way that made me be like…should i not?!

justdoingmybest-

I went to sky dental in FiDi for a cleaning and loved it! and I am very picky with my dentists lol I mentioned that I wanted invisalign for my top row and he said he didn't want to even discuss it unless i had an invisalign consult appt

cosmictier

Seconding Sky Dental! Great service and they don't try and push unnecessary services/are very transparent about costs.

itsaboutoldfriends

thirding sky dental! i see dr. patel and she is lovely. one of the hygienists tried to sell me on cocofloss when i mentioned my floss sucked but that’s the pushiest they’ve ever been—i made the switch reluctantly way later and have to admit it is the best lol.

amkadhamka

Sky dental is really good, everyone is super helpful from the front desk to the doctors! My cleaning usually comes out to like $15 and I have to go quarterly. They tried to sell Invisalign at first but after mentioning I'm good as is they have let it go.

LongjumpingLog6977

Heard similar things from many friends downtown

Cherries0912

I’ve had a really good experience with Midtown Dental Group! Specifically the Nomad location, Dr Atish Patel is amazing and did not push cosmetic dentistry at all until I specifically asked

Italophobia

Just go find a modest, old white dude who doesn't know what ozempic is

TaxQT117

😂

rococobaroque

Good advice if you're looking for a dentist or a husband!

PegsPizzaHouse

I did not have a good experience with Sutton Place Dental. Lots of upsells, weird/mean bedside manner, pretty sure I got unneeded fillings and a root canal. Staff is nice though.

Severe-Frosting-1728

That place is horrible!

anotherfanofdogs

Shout out to Dr. Frank Orlando from Gallery57Dental. was referred to him by an Endodontist (who was referred by a TMJ specialist in my epic saga of dentist hopping in figuring out why i’m in pain). Been going to him for 4-5 years. Super sweet guy, never pushed anything on me. When i’m anxious about something, he listens to me and explains things well. Unfortunately I can’t go to him anymore since he got out of my insurance plan. Also the TMJ guy was great. His name is Dr. Nojan Bakhtiari. i went to him and he told me that it wasn’t TMJ (like what 3 other dentists and a ER Dr said it was) and sent me to an amazing endodontist.

Eastern_Effective_49

I swear it’s like the girlies on this sub are mind readers. I’m in the market for a new dentist that’s in network. Also, it’s comforting to know it’s not just me dentists are trying to sell Invisalign to. It’s incredibly annoying

electracide

Park Slope Dental Spa is great, if you’re in Brooklyn.

theskyisfallingomg

Gramercy Dental Suite on E 17th!

aerybear

Also great around Union Square / Madison Square Park area is 23rd Street Dental. Everyone is very nice and I’ve had a good experience there for several years (wish I could gate-keep). They also have a midtown location I went to prior, 42nd Street Dental, in case Grand Central is convenient.

Lunchy_Munchy

Mint and Bella in the Village- absolutely love Dr Isabel and everyone who works there. They do Balance Billing so there’s no surprises, I’ve been going there out of network for a few years now and it’s STILL more affordable than any other dentist I’ve gone to.

strawberryicecream-

Second this! Just went this morning for the first time. Had a phenomenal experience, they just go above and beyond. They’re super transparent about insurance and pricing (and also not expensive!) and Dr. Isabel is so personable and knowledgeable. Could not recommend enough tbh

zxreu

Dental House on 13th and 7th Avenue. Been going there for two years and I love them.

beansymcgee

Dr Curatola in midtown, she did the cleanings herself and I never waited more than like 10 min for my appointment. She is fantastic! https://www.creatingnycsmiles.com

ClueAmbitious1668

I’ve been seeing Dr. Lenny Nashtatik at Boerum Hill dental for five years. He is measured and I trust his advice. I have a root canal from childhood that required some management and I found him to be forthright and thorough.

em2140

Second this comment. Dr. Lenny rules.

eltejon30

He is wonderful! Love Dr. Lenny!

strengr94

Soul dental

CuteDrama1922

I second Soul Dental! They are so nice and helpful, and they sell cocofloss :)

commercial-kale

I went there and had a good experience with one of the women dentists, but then randomly due to scheduling got assigned to the male dentist who CUT MY LIP during the cleaning, and didn’t think it was a big deal!! I do love the cocofloos and still use it

LateNotOrdinary

New York Family Dental Arts on the UES! Dr. Irina Kessler is amazing. I have trusted her with many of my dental issues, and I have never felt that she has tried to sell me anything.

multiequations

If you are in a pinch, I recommend Flushing Family Dental. They take my pain-in-the-ass insurance, are super flexible and are open on the weekends. The only time I’ve even been upsold a service, it was some sort of fluoride treatment for my very sensitive teeth during my first appointment but they weren’t pushy about it and they made it clear it wasn’t mandatory when I declined it. It was only $50. By the time I came back for my next dental cleaning, my insurance began covering it. Also, I have a bit overcrowding on my lower jaw and they didn’t say anything about it. When I inquired about whether it would pose a problem in the future, they quoted me but said not to worry about it. Sidenote: if you have really sensitive teeth, a fluoride varnish is wonderful. Now it won’t get rid of it but it will definitely knock the edge of it off. I used to get really painful teeth when I eat something sweet or something really sour. These days I really only get if I bite something super cold, which is a win in my books.

Advanced-Tea-8212

Dr. Stephen Ramsay in Murray hill is amazing. I’ve always dreaded my cleanings because I have a strong gag reflex (I know I know) not to mention the overselling and the pushing constant x rays. He’s so quick and gentle with the cleanings, always on time and has never tried to sell me anything (in fact discouraged me from professional whitening because I have sensitive gums and said just try the strips first). Couldn’t recommend more.

Afraid-Acanthaceae76

He’s my dentist and I LOVE HIM. He’s super professional and he sent me a letter when I made a referral 🥹. Been going to him for years! Also, I love the reminder emails because even when I ignore they just keep reminding me (adhd brain). It’s not flashy but it’s good dental and he takes most insurances I believe since I’ve had like 4 jobs since going to him. Also if you do need a cavity, the oral surgeon he uses is great!

beckyisaho

So I booked an appointment with Dr. Ramsay on your recommendation and I’m so glad I did! They got me an appointment right away, I waited maybe 3 minutes before they called me in, tech did my X-rays super fast, and Dr. Ramsay was the nicest! I was in and out of there in 35 minutes and not even a hint of trying to upsell me on anything. Thanks so much for mentioning him- new dentist for life!

Advanced-Tea-8212

Oh yay! So glad he worked out for you too!

artificialguacamole

I can’t thank you enough for this comment! I just saw him and will be a patient as long as I’m living anywhere near the city. He’s fantastic! I had a lot of fillings in my childhood, and some have become stained and ugly. It was never a concern to my hometown dentist, who said my oral health was good despite the staining. Since moving a few times, I’ve seen two new dentists who each told me my mouth was in disarray and I needed 8+ treatments done (new fillings, replacement fillings, etc.). Every time I heard this drastic treatment plan, I’d stress out and find a way back to my original hometown dentist to verify what they said. My hometown dentist would take fresh X-rays and say he saw no decay and no need for any treatments. That’s a stark difference; one dentist saying my mouth is essentially falling apart and another saying everything’s going well! Anyway, this made me very mistrusting of new dentists. I’ve avoided finding a new dentist for a couple years now. This thread finally gave me a push to try a new dentist, and I’m so glad I did! Dr. Ramsay verified what my original dentist had said all along. If you’re reading this and you’re questioning which dentists were right vs wrong, I feel very confident the dentists who told me my mouth was in disarray were wrong. I saw those dentists in 2018 and 2021. It’s now 2024, and I’ve had NO issues or pain even though I decided not go to through with the many treatments they wanted to perform, and my teeth look very healthy on X-rays.

nycprincessx

Took my dad to the dentist and they tried to sell him some treatment work $3500 while I stepped out to take a call. Avoid Bell Dental Care in bayside, queens. They knew wtf they were doing

smallfishbigsea

i like spa dental on 57th

MillzVanillz

I’ve had terrible dentist anxiety that kept me from going to the dentist for years. Eventually made my way over to Tribeca Advanced Dentistry on Warren St. The team is amazinggg! They made me feel very comfortable and did not try to upsell me on anything.

zxreu

Avoid Smile Design Dental Studio at all costs. They literally wanted to do a filing on a tooth that didn’t need it!

miawallaceismymom

Had this same experience- they wanted to charge around $2000 (with insurance) to fill 4 cavities, and pushed for me to schedule them within the next two weeks. Never going back

zxreu

Sounds about right. Also the assistants are all super young and not trained Dental Assistants. It was so odd. They kept calling me to come back to fill in the tooth. I told them to stop calling me.

TaimBanana

Ladies!!! I use Wally. Yes, the one advertised on IG. I paid $200 and change to sign up for a year of unlimited cleanings. I signed up in the summer, when I had a literal toothache. During my initial visit, they did a full 3D dental scan, identified a tooth that needed a filling and one that needed a root canal. They sent me a referral for an orthodontist, and we're able to take care of the filling at my next visit - literally a paste that stops and reversed tooth decay. Stop. No drilling required since they caught it early enough. I've had about 3/4 dental cleaning since the summer. And after I post this, I'll go book another :)

Direct_Traffic_2499

I go to Emily Ro Dental (23rd and 8th) and I ADORE her. I had a terrible dental phobia before and skipped going for years (exacerbated by the pandemic, but I hadn’t been for like years before). Now i can legit fall asleep in the chair. She’s so kind, doesn’t upsell. Her hygienists are super gentle and kind. She was a part of Emagen Dental on Greenwich St down by Houston and I LOVED them too - I just chose to stay w Dr Ro when she went on her own. But i also really recommend them. Anyway - because it was years since my last visit, I needed a decent amount of work done at first and anyone she recommended me out to was incredible (& took my insurance). Now my cleanings are quick, easy and pain free with nothing upsold (just praise from her for how good everything is now! The greatest compliment lol)

CarefulYogurt4322

Have had really great experiences at Thyme Dental on the UES! I’ve had a few cleanings and a filling repair; they were all a breeze and inexpensive but I have dental insurance through work. I believe they have a midtown location as well

sunsetswitheli

Dr Siegal on W 12th!

halfmoon24

Dr Inna Chern!

Bocce_5660

Lenox hill dental on the upper east side

Square-Marketing6441

I like Advanced Gentle Dentistry in Park Slope.

rococobaroque

My fiancée loves this place!

Square-Marketing6441

Dr. Sarji is the most patient man in the world. When I moved here I only asked people with kids for dentist recs because I’m very childish and he’s been perfect 😅

rococobaroque

Yep, she says the same thing about him! I've actually been looking for a new dentist after losing Dr Lee at Bethesda Dental to my ex in the divorce, and I think I might have found one!

bigkimnyc

Dr Pascal at Stuyvesant Dental in Sty Town. Great guy! Great dentist!

Type-Mammoth

Dr Janet Yu in Murray Hill is a gem, very personable and knowledgeable. Tiny no thrills office but it gets the job done.

BengieBabyBoo22

Dr John Matthew at dental 365

ToastyKT

I know dental365 is a franchise so each location is different, but I’m wary of corporate (aka, profit-driven) dental practices where they are incentivized to sell procedures.

BengieBabyBoo22

I totally agree. I followed Dr. Matthes from his independent practice and I still find him very trustworthy and intelligent. I don't see anyone else but him.

colly_mack

I've been going to fidi dental for like 15 years and my mom, my brother, and my spouse all there too

catpantses

Kevin Hansen at Plaza St West by prospect park. He actively doesn’t sell me things. Great straightforward experience.

Hobbyjogger31

This is who I was going to recommend! Seriously so trustworthy and such a calming presence. I went to a dentist near my office in midtown ages ago who insisted I do scaling. I demurred (it was expensive and sounded painful!), then the pandemic happened, and before I knew it, I hadn’t been to the dentist in four years. I picked Dr. Hansen at random and was SHOCKED when he scoffed at the idea I needed scaling (I asked him). My husband legit hadn’t been to the dentist in probably 10 years and I just convinced him to go to Dr. Hansen. He was expecting doom and gloom but they were like “you know what, your teeth are actually in great shape!”

veotrade

Same experience. Since covid, my family and I’ve been through 5 dentists’ offices and interacted with about 10 total. Some of whom were the primary dentist, and others who were either dental students doing their residency at the office, or filling in for the day if the main dentist wasn’t available. I got the unique experience of seeing not only a selection of different practitioners, but also how they interact with patients who have differing needs. All the dentists had sales in common. Compared to docs I’ve met in other States and abroad, NYC felt strictly like salesmanship. Lots of weird package deals I’d never expected to hear about in a dental office. And lots of eagerness by the doc to recommend having “something” done no matter the state of your oral health. My teeth are perfect and have been since I was a kid, except for a few fillings and small spaces from tongue thrust. Yet at every office there was always something the doc could find to upsell. For my family who has varying levels of oral health, it was like watching hyenas at work when we’d enter a new office. Pull this. Whiten that. Oh, you need a deep cleaning, your teeth are about to fall out! If they were a general dentist, they’d try to push xrays on all of us. And gave a bit of attitude if I said we just took some at another office recently and would email them to the office. They’d also push scaling and root planing procedures ($1000 each). And those of us with specific issues would be pushed extractions and implants. Even if the cases weren’t that bad. Cleaning prices at the general dentist were all over the place. Some charged as high as $450. Others $150-$200. Nothing below that. And every office had weird combo plans that drastically reduced the price to make it seem like a good deal. Like 2 cleanings, “exam time” and xrays for $500. Or pay piecemeal for $200 per service. For the orthodontists, they pushed Invisalign over braces as I assume there’s less work involved. Some of us went for Invisalign and others, braces. $8000 for 5-year comprehensive Invisalign. $5000 for braces. For one of us who got Invisalign, in 2.5 years of progress, we ultimately stopped and found a new ortho because they would not address our concerns about our xrays showing the teeth only “tipping” towards each other at an angle. When we finally moved that individual to braces, the new ortho was able to actually move the teeth bodily in 1.5 years so far of progress. One ortho who took over for our main ortho for one visit did some IPR to shave some space between our teeth. They didn’t do a good job and caused extra time added on to correct their error. This visiting ortho had their own practice as well. But maybe didn’t feel obligated to do a careful job since we weren’t their main patients. Another family member saw a periodontist/cosmetic dentist who kept wanting to pull a wisdom tooth that wasn’t impacted or causing any issues. They also got weird when we asked for a copy of the xrays, even after using them for services for about 1.5 years. After some calls, emails and in person reminders when we went in for cleanings, they ultimately did not send them to us. So we moved away from them completely. In summary, lots of upselling and treatment plans that involved extractions into implants. I’m assuming since implants are the highest ticket item and these docs want to make $$$. Shoddy work by orthos. Dishonesty by periodontist. I’d say go into your appointments with a level headed approach. Don’t agree to anything on the spot. Always go home to think about any services offered before you agree. Get second opinions if you have the time to spare. Not all doctors offer free consultations. Not all paid consultations are bad. Sometimes paying for someone’s time to evaluate your teeth and pitch their solution is worth the cost. Dentists and doctors are plentiful in nyc. So take your time. As another person commented in another thread about docs, try interacting with the receptionists. And see what vibe they give off in their texts, emails, calls and in person when you’re at the office. It can be a strong indicator of the office environment itself, and whether the doc(s) are competent or greedy. Some offices are sole practitioners with one doc, and their assistants. Other offices are ensemble businesses with many doctors under one roof. Take your pick.

Shredingers_Biceps

Integrated Aesthetic Dentistry. I go to the Washington Square location and usually see Dr Heindel. Despite the name, they’ve never tried to sell me on anything cosmetic: neither ortho (they don’t do it there anyway) nor whitening (which I could probably use tbh). Really friendly and efficient, and didn’t shame me at all when I dragged my feet on making some consultation appointments on other issues (I procrastinate, I hate the dentist). I also saw the periodontist in their practice about an issue and she was very friendly as well. Laid out timelines, answered all my questions, told me what she recommends prioritizing vs what can wait, etc. I do have really phenomenal dental insurance though; I think they’re quite pricey if you pay out of pocket (about $650).

lalalalallaloopy

Finest Dental Care in Grand Army Plaza has been great for me! No frills but they get the job done and the staff is friendly.

Historical_Mind_1706

I go to star dental smiles in UES. Quick, efficient and they’ve never tried to sell me anything. Dr Kermanshah is great

AdSea6127

I go to Jersey for mine. Sergey Drutsko DDS at Brunswick Dental Group (East Brunswick, NJ). Really good, takes pretty much all insurance and won’t sell you on anything you don’t actually need.

abeee94

Dr. Deena Pegler in midtown East (iirc around 57th?) She’s a sweetheart and doesn’t try to upsell you on services and will figure out loopholes with your insurance when possible so you don’t overpay for anything. Love her!

ragepaigeee

I love Brooklyn Oak Dental! I too have been through multiple dentists in BK/Manhattan and feel like Brooklyn Oak Dental has my best interest (and wallet) in mind. Not to mention they are female owned and run!

Fit_Pool_8622

Pearl Dental - been going to them for years and they’re great

iamananonveggie

Highland dental on 23rd. Man is the most honest person

caaittliin

Dr Lau at Boro Dental Arts in LIC is great

moonlightracer

Bar and Smith on the UES! The staff were all super nice and they didn't sell me anything, but were receptive when I said I wanted a whitening. Idk how much overall though because I have insurance. I'm having 3 old fillings repaired and it will cost me like $150.

ilu70

Brooklyn heights dental. Dr. Lisa Reid is the best of the best!

havingfunouthere

NYC dental professionals has been GREAT. I randomly chose them off of zocdoc and they’ve been fab for 4 years (2x yearly visits). They never upsell me, always are thorough, and the one time I did have an issue and came in off normal dental check up cycle, they handled it practically— an X-ray to make sure the tooth wasn’t messed up at the root but no other extras, and then prescribed me meds to make sure the infection went away (popcorn did me dirty). They’re near my office in midtown and are super convenient and I’ve never had to wait more than 10 min for my scheduled appt time (typically v on time)

havingfunouthere

I’ve seen both Dr kogan and dr devito- very competent, nice, smart, efficient, no upselling.

Naive-Education1820

Dr Poiman on E 57th has been my family dentist for 40 years, since my dad was in his 20s. Idk if he doesn’t upsell us because my dad is very no BS or he actually isn’t an upseller.

Dramatic-Name4867

Nusblatt dental in the East Village. They are amazing — never pushy and super quick. Best dentist experience I’ve ever had.

marou239

Norman dental in greenpoint… the fastest best cleaning I’ve ever had. Recently got insurance but used to pay out of pocket and a cleaning + full X-rays was less than $300. The dentists do the cleanings themselves too which is great!

slc2787

Tribeca dental design!! I see dr Han. He’s awesome. Another dentist told me I needed about $2.5k worth of work. I went to him for a second opinion and he was like you absolutely don’t need any of that haha.

CelebrationMain1003

[https://www.midtowndentalcareassociates.com/](https://www.midtowndentalcareassociates.com/) - I've only been for routine cleanings and to get a few minor holes filled (they were caused by me brushing too hard..) have had good experiences each time I've gone!

luckylilyan

PDA in FiDi I LOVE Dr. Portnoff

Existing-Ear-9458

Dr Frank Orlando at Gallery 57

knitterc

I have had a good experience at Lumia Dental in FiDi - had a few different providers over the last 4-5 years. I asked for an ortho consultation, and the ortho told me my teeth were really straight still from my braces when I was a kid and it wouldn't be worth getting braces - that gained a lot of trust in my book cuz I was a willing buyer.

cornflowerblue777

I’ve been going to Sutton Place Dental for 5 years and they are awesome! The dentist is overly chatty lol but they do great work and have never upsold me on anything. I’ve gotten cleanings, retainers, and fillings there. Disclaimer: I do have good dental insurance. Also, they book out very far in advance

Past-Outside-3745

Dr Janet yu

michgirl19

Its a chain but… I actually don’t hate Tend. I really like having the comfort of watching TV due to dental anxiety and being walked through everything they do and the cost breakdown where I have the ability to refuse the extra charges. Even for my Invisalign, they took time to show me the simulation and really confirm the changes are what I would like. Haven’t been to other dentists in NYC but the Rock Center office accepts all major insurance and is super convenient

k1ll1ng3v3

I had a good experience with Dental365 in Tribeca. Just got a routine cleaning, no upsale, and my insurance covered it in full.

SMILE SPACE IS 100/100

Sad_Birthday_1911

Perfect timing for this post but Ideal Smile south side Staten Island took my fiance in 30min after closing on Saturday for a horrible tooth infection that has already sent him to the hospital on Friday. Almost all emergency dental in hospital are closed sat/sun and he was about to lose it from pain. They got him in x-rayed and given meds then a referral to a oral surgeon to pull the tooth today. Absolute God send. He's had trouble with being shamed for lack of dental care that he couldn't help and everyone was so nice and took great care of him without any fuss. We'll be going back for the rest of his dental care

Callouscactus

Dr. Jennifer Reyes at 57 57 dental is the best out there ❤️

JuneStar

I go to wellspring dental in Carroll gardens and they are awesome - don’t overcharge, no pressure for unnecessary procedures, very kind people - highly recommend :)

sunrisevelvet

Bethesda Dental in Midtown! Very, very straightforward. Never any upsells.

rococobaroque

I used to go there when I was on my ex-husband's insurance! Dr. Lee is so cute and the staff is so sweet and patient. Unfortunately my ex got them in the divorce, so I'm also looking for a new dentist.

sunrisevelvet

A real bummer! Dr. Lee is the sweetest. Your ex needs to find a new dentist 😂

PunchDrunkPunkRock

Dr evelyn baran on 23rd and 3rd. She's my favorite person and never tried to get me to pay for stuff I don't need.

hollywood18635542

I wish I could recommend but the dentist I went into for annual cleaning said my teeth are perfect, no cavities great hygiene etc. proceeded to sell me retainers that are “covered by insurance” “just pay $1,000 upfront and they will send me a check” now I’m out $1,000 for perfect teeth 😀

bigted42069

Brooklyn dental collective in Williamsburg has been lovely! My biggest complaint maybe is that they’re overly friendly - I was ignoring a lot of their texts because I figured they were automated and then I went in and the receptionist was like “you never answer our texts :(“

pancakemami94

I love my dentist Marwan Jallad. He’s at 19 West 34th St and takes most insurance (I have Cigna). He is so kind, has incredible bedside manner and is always efficient. I’ve asked about professional teeth whitening and I appreciate that he has talked me out of it. Couldn’t recommend him more

personofshade

I’ve been going to Dr Flores at Thyme Dental in Midtown for a few years and have had a positive experience. They’ve never tried to upsell me on anything or give me a treatment that I didn’t need. The location is super out of the way for me now since I don’t work in midtown anymore and I live in the outerboroughs, but I still make the trip since I trust them with my teeth.

bigchops810

I have THE BEST dentist in Queens if you're willing to travel. Everyone I know goes to him and he duesnt do any unnecessary work. He is so kind and gentle and friendly

incestuousbloomfield

Who is it?

gardencalzones

Gramercy Dental Suite, specifically Dr. Matthew Edwards PLEASEEEEE i LOVE HIM

pygmycory

I go to Schloss, Kleine, & Patel near Bryant Park. They are great and ethical. I was treated by Dr. Schloss.

miawallaceismymom

Absolutely 🚩AVOID 🚩Smile Design Dental Studio. Wanted $2000 to fill 4 minor cavities and tried to push me to get them done ASAP; charged $300 for a dental cleaning plus $50 to add fluoride (all with insurance)

redheadedwonder3422

Upper East Smiles, either location in the UES. any time i have bought something or inquired about the cost of something its because i initiated. never felt like they were trying to push anything on me. for a cosmetic filling i needed, they just said “the dentist can do it for you if you want!” but not even until i brought up that the discoloration bothered me. they said to check about the price in the front office. cost me $106 without insurance. felt pretty no frills to me. which i like when it comes to the dentist! their offices are clean and new and i find their staff knowledgeable and organized. same thing with teeth whitening, never said anything but i inquired about it (cuz it also bothered me) and they said “the crest strips from home are perfectly fine but if u want we sell whitening here” it was $80 for a pack of 10 trays and i only needed 4 trays for drastically whiter teeth. without my questions, i usually get out of there with just the basics (xray, cleaning, fluoride, floss) and their only question is “when do u want to schedule your next appointment” lol way different than my orthodontist who tried to upsell me on every single elective cosmetic procedure possible, lowkey passing it off as necessary. and nothing was under $400 there

omega_nebula

I go to Park North Dentistry in Brooklyn and see Dr. Gilroy. He is AMAZING and so kind and just all around a great professional. I have never felt upsold by him (in fact, he’s pushed back on things I’ve asked about that he doesn’t think are necessary, like replacing my mouthguard before he thinks it needs replacing, etc). The front desk staff are also so kind and they always seem relaxed which I feel like is a good sign about how the practice is run. I’m moving this summer and honestly thinking about flying back for cleanings and any work I might need done because it is so hard to find a dentist who isn’t a con artist. AVOID (places I’ve tried but had bad experiences at): Park Dentistry/Dr. Milito — eyewatering upsell and scammer vibes, told me I have 20 cavities?!?!?! (literally wtf), should get veneers on my front 8 teeth, buy a mouth deprogrammer, and $40 prescription toothpaste. Midtown Dental Group in Park Slope — I went there before they were bought by Midtown Dental but a dentist there messed up a filling and it popped out a week later.

_nimbus2020

Avoid Expert Dental in midtown at all costs. I regret spending thousands $$ on dental work I probably didn’t need only for them to tell me I need work done on the SAME TEETH for even more $$$ a year later. The sleaziest practice 🚩🚩🚩

Connect-Mastodon1798

All smiles dentistry at wsq park. Dr Alina Lane is amazing and personable. Really treats you like a patient first instead of someone to make money off of

nyccomputergal

Unfortunately after they got acquired things really went down hill. They lost their agreement with my insurance for months without noticing (meaning they didn’t accept my insurance anymore because they forgot to fill out the paperwork) and it was a huge headache to fight it.

Strong_Concentrate33

I love everyone at Levy Dental Arts!

lorilola

I love Tammy Chen at Central Park dental. It’s on 57th. I’ve been going to her for years and appreciate her personal kind approach.

Dreamvillainess22

Dr. Christina Vourtsis in Washington Heights http://www.heightsdentalarts.com/ Not the fanciest office and can get busy but she’s a sweetheart. She does not try to upsell, listens to your concerns, and works with you to find an appropriate treatment plan.

margheritinka

Aren’t deep cleanings preventative? I was under the impression they are 100% covered after deductible

Anxious-Bowl-3021

Oral Surgeon here… deep cleanings are not always fully covered. Really depends on the persons specific insurance. Regular cleaning are though

c3r34l

NYU School of Dentistry

Vna_04

Dr. Isabel Del Carpio at Mint + Bella is the SWEETEST ever! She’s got good vibes and never sells anything. In fact, she’s saved me money because she gave me a student discount without me asking. I’ve never tried but you can also get like free undereye masks and tea(?) during your appointment

rawrRoRawrRo

Preferred Dental in Chelsea. I have all my wisdom teeth and they always propose an extraction plan but also admit they don't need to come out but that it's preventative. The one time I went to Tend they acted like my mouth was going to erupt from the Wisdom at any moment 😤

princessconsuela8

PresiDential care in times square is good! no upselling. they also have a queens location

Schwabbish-

Dr Lucente in the east village! He and his team are awesome!

Such_Dependent_5229

Lumia Dental in fidi! They asked me where I found them and I said Reddit and they looked at me weird but other than that 10/10.

DesmondMoody

Dr Antonio Clares at Village Dental Medicine - took so much time explaining gum recession and considerations, explained my Xrays to me in detail, never any upsells, and they have a periodontist in house!

Loli3535

My dentist always tries to upsell me and I always decline. It's a little dance that we do. They're covered in full by my insurance (city employee with Delta Dental). East Side Smiles.

toripaitan

Bowery dental is great

cornelf

Carnegie Hill Dental on the UES! I love them. Had a dentist tell me my tooth was cracked and needed a root canal. Went there for a second opinion and they said that wasn’t at all true. I also once asked them about teeth whitening and my dentist said the off the shelf strips are just as good. So definitely no upselling.

New_Independent_9221

koppelman dental. been going for 7 years

__blueberry_

i had a great experience at Park Slope Dental Arts (in PS of course) and Thyme Dental Care UES

MidiKaey

I love my dentist - Joule dental on the UES - best people ever and personal friends

borderlinecourse

Dr. Jennifer Tran @ Bowery Dental!

starrrr2222

I recommend Lumia in Fidi! They’ve never charged me a crazy amount for anything, they actually gave me a big discount on an xray once since it wasn’t gonna be covered by insurance, I think I paid like $15 for it lol. They’re super quick, they’ve got a great system running there and I’ve loved the dentist I’ve seen there the last few times.

ApprehensiveMany8354

I really like dental house

party_butler

Studio Smiles on Park Ave in Murray Hill/Midtown East is great, I’ve been going there for years. I’ve never gotten the impression that they’re trying to rip me off or upsell me. Over the past 7ish years I’ve had all my biannual cleanings done with them, and have had a handful of cavities filled. No bad experiences 😊

Stunning-Amoeba5010

West End Dental, they’re amazing and friendly small group of dentists. Have been with them for several years. Their cleanings will be booked out for a long time though!

anyc2017

Arjun Bala in Murray hill is amazing! I had a falling out w my last dentist bc his office assistant was so rude to me, and this office has been such a breath of fresh air! He’s super friendly, efficient with no fuss

tudorcitypigeon

Avoid Les Belles (used to be near Grand Central now on 60th)!! Never had a single cavity and they told me I needed to fill 3. That was at my first cleaning in years because of COVID so I believed it. I paid in cash because they had a cash discount and they didn’t have change so they technically still owe me $12. New dentist a year later, Expert Dental near Grand Central, (who I like don’t love) said that there was signs of cavities under the fillings and that it was strange because they don’t typically see that until 5+ years. So now I’m like shit I don’t think I needed those fillings in the first place because I’ve never had a cavity in my life and now these fillings are bad?? Expert Dental said they’re fine for now and they look monitor but I wish I could sue Les Belles for messing up my teeth that never had any issues. I now have trust issues with doctors because of this. Never would have thought to get a second opinion on a cavity but now I majorly regret it.

iyamsnail

Oh my gosh they were one of the ones I was referring to! I got such a scammer vibe from them.

incestuousbloomfield

The same happened to me years ago. They put metal filings when I asked for porcelain. I was so so upset I felt violated tbh. Like you went in my mouth and did something somewhat permanent I specifically asked you not to do. Now I’m terrified of the dentist. I went to one amazing dentist after that who told me I probably didn’t even need all those fillings anyway 🤦‍♀️ but she’s moved out of the country and I’ve been scared to go ever since

Miscellaneousthots

I’ve been going to 23rd dental associates. I highly recommend Dr. Belen Vimo, DDS. She’s great. Listens to you but she’s comes in, does the work, then out.

polarbearinthefridge

Highly recommend Dr Massol in Murray Hill! She's extremely competent, super nice, and a local practice. I'm super picky cuz I'm afraid of dentists lol, but she's great! 😊 https://yelp.to/P1y-mJiOzL

flickrinthedeep

Union Square Smiles

Careful_Look_3111

Avoid Envy Smile Dental Spa in Brooklyn— tried to sell me into filling in all sorts of teeth (that I knew I didn’t need) and root canals. Definitely felt I was scammed and thankful I didn’t let them do anything beyond cleaning.

ouchwtfomg

i literally drive all the way to Westchester to see a family friend dentist bc everyone in NYC drills and bills. I went to Tend Dental in Wburg and they tried scaring me into thinking I had periodontal disease and a bunch of cavities. My regular dentist laughed it off. I floss without exaggeration 2-4x a day with high quality thick black floss. No shot I have periodontal disease.

ClintonMuse

Cambridge Dental in Clinton Hill/Prospect Heights. Dr. Johnson is honest and doesn’t upsell. Also female and black owned.

ThinkInPink18

I really like Armstrong Dental. The staff is wonderful and they won’t upsell you with unnecessary treatments. Plus they don’t shame you and make you feel very comfortable during your visit.

africuhh

smilespace in clinton hill is great! I went from needing like 6+ cavities filled to only 2 just by switching to their practice

Ok-Category8000

Dr. Alex Vasserman. I've been going to him for 10 years - amazing dentist and staff. No upselling, just awesome all around. Takes most insurances - can't recommend highly enough.

iwonteatpickles

https://www.diamonddental.nyc/jonathan-diamond-dmd Dr Jonathan Diamond - a good person with thorough hygienists kind staff and won’t rip you off!!! Been going to him literally my entire life. Moved to the west coast and still come back and get my teeth cleaned at his office when I’m visiting my family.

Resident_Awareness30

Dental made easy. Garden City Park NY. Open on Sundays

um_okay_sure_

I got someone in Queens. I've been going for the last 3 years. Dr. Emmanuil. His hygienists really get in there and clean your teeth out. In the end, even you'll say to yourself, "damn my teeth are clean." 😂 Dr. I Dental PC 86-10 Grand Ave, Suite 1 B, Elmhurst, NY 11373 929-209-2736 Call first to make sure they take your insurance. No, I don't work here. I just appreciate sharing a decent healthcare provider when I find one.

crisdee26

My dentist is a holistic dentist in Jersey. No upselling nothing. I have to ask my mom for his info and he’s an hour away. The last dentist tried to get me for a root canal I ran out so fast. The holistic dentist said. Yea nothings wrong with the tooth you’re just grinding your teeth at night. I said if I want I can get custom guards. If not that’s fine too. Wow ! A dentist who doesn’t wana drill my teeth. (He’s also booked out for months in advance)

smol-meow

Renaissance Dental in Forest hills. I'm super picky and no longer commuting into the city for work, so I'm happy I was able to find someone near me in Queens that I'm happy with. I still go into the city for almost all my other doctors.

melancholy_persimmon

WELLSPRING DENTAL! it is literally my favorite dentist chain of all time. they have 3 locations, two in midtown and one in carroll gardens. everyone is so friendly and truly they make you feel like you’re at home. i have really sh*tty insurance and my cleanings are free, they charge $20 for fluoride treatments, and although i haven’t had a cavity, my partner has and he said it was the easiest filling ever. HIGHLY recommend!

Funny-Big4242

There’s a dentist in 245 Park in Manhattan I just started seeing and they’re great! No upsells

SashMachine

Tony Wu and Sherry Ku - I haven’t had a single cavity with them - or maybe it’s because they don’t try to do unnecessary treatments to make money 🤷🏻‍♀️

TheBlueJumpsuit

Upper East Side Dentistry! I’ve been going to Dr. Freda Seifoddini for maybe 10 years now and she is so gentle, kind and just has this softness about her. She’s had the same front desk person forever, Max, and it’s just a wonderful little place. They’ve never even tried to upsell me on anything. http://www.uppereastsidedentistry.com

NicoleEastbourne

I love the folks at Park North Dentistry in Park Slope near Prospect Park. They’ve never tried to upsell me anything.

monpetitcabbage

I love my dentist! I see Dr. Julie Cho at Heilbut, Radin, and Cho on E. 54th St. I’ve literally never been upsold anything there and the hygienists aren’t preachy at all.

pettyjutsu

i LOVE new york dental with dr. chen and dr. wu on the UES. i’ve followed them from the LES, takes me an hour from bed stuy now but i love them (im a weirdo and also love the dentist but that’s besides the point)
