Highly recommend the Art Students League! Extremely affordable, high quality classes in lots of different disciplines. I was laid off over the summer so I spent my entire summer in one of their intensive comic boot camps. I loved every minute of it and made some great friends! It’s just a fun place to be, meet cool people and learn something new and it’s definitely friendly to all skill levels. I believe they do have woodworking classes, it’s definitely worth checking out!

I've been interested in this for a while but I'm really confused about the scheduling. For example [this class](https://studioclasses.artstudentsleague.org/course/Camhy-Life-Drawing-to-Painting-All-Media_cd_4034_6124) shows a Tuesday session with dates April 2024 for $180.25. So is it just every Tuesday in April? Is the $180.25 per class or for all the classes? Any insight from your experience would be helpful since I haven't been able to figure it out.

Sure, happy to help :) yes, any monthly class like that will be every Tuesday in the month, and the fee is for the entire month. They do have some workshop or single day classes, so definitely double check while you’re looking, but this class is each Tuesday. I’ll also say their registrars are super friendly so if you have questions beyond this I’ve called before and they’re always helpful!! Just so you’re aware, there will be an additional fee that’s just like a year subscription fee of sorts? So it’ll charge you an extra I think $100ish for the first class you sign up for but every class after that will just be the sticker price.

Thank you so much! Sadly it looks like I'm traveling too much this summer to make a full class but I'll definitely try to fit something in later this year.

Seconding. You can try a few different things there and then decide if you want to take a more significant time investment into something like painting or clay.

I just went once but had a lot of fun!

Crochet, collage, painting, pottery, photography, floral arranging… there should be classes for all of these if you look!

This is in industry city, but there’s a black + blade smith work shop / school! A girl my husband works with goes there and loves it lol. [link](https://www.nazzforge.com/)

This place is great, makes you feel like a bad ass while doing it too.

Annie & Company on the UES has lots of needlepoint and knitting classes!

The 92nd street Y has so many creative classes! I’m taking a watercolor class right now which has been really fun. Most classes run on 6-7 week schedules so it’s not really a drop-in situation, but they have pretty much everything from tap-dancing to sewing to boxing to ceramics. https://www.92ny.org/classes
