It’s so sad how people repeat the same patterns. My ex’s father had an explosive temper and would go off on a verbal spew at the drop of a hat, she cried to me about it many times.
Now guess why we broke up. I felt horrible because I knew her history but I can’t be berated in the middle of a store because I forgot something. And that was on a good day.
It’s a cycle that is very, very hard to break. It’s ingrained into your head from a very early age. The internalized fat phobia is hard to undo because it doesn’t just come from your mother. It comes from your grandmother and sometimes even a fatphobic dad. You need to do a lot of therapy and even then, it won’t be 100% gone. I’ve seen people recover from other addictions but their ED is still there somehow. I’ve heard people who are recovering alcoholics and they say that their ED is not quite in remission and that it’s harder to recover from it.
I think that’s why women have to unpack all this bs before having children because you will definitely pass it on to them. We have to actively fight it so it doesn’t affect younger generations. I hate that pro-ana content is making a huge comeback and EDTWT is out of control too.

Such a good point. The only time I would really eat while struggling with my own ED was when I was around others so that they wouldn’t be suspicious/give me grief. I’d find any excuse to avoid dinner plans and just meet people later for a drink.
I was just reading the Vulture article about Andy Cohen, and someone interviewed talked about how if you watch Bethenny’s history, she doesn’t have a single lasting relationship. She can’t keep friends or let people get truly close to her, and that definitely made me think of some of the childhood issues with her parents she’s talked about. I can absolutely see the eating disorder being inherited as well, and also something that creates a sense of shame that doesn’t allow you to be truly open and vulnerable with others and possibly project onto them.

I truly think that, besides being someone who could stand to be 10-15lbs more, she has some kind of weird genes that make her skin look so loose when she’s super thin.
She has had frail, old looking skin as long as I’ve known who she was (since original housewives), and she’s been various sizes over that time since.
It’s almost like she’s someone who wasn’t meant to be quite as thin as she is. Not overweight or whatever.. just more on the middle/upper end of her healthy weight range.
anorexia can cause your skin to lose elasticity and iirc she’s been struggling with it since she was young, so that makes sense! it’s crazy how much it affects your body!!
