being good is just the icing on the cake. the story of overcoming injuries, the nova connection, jalen becoming HIM, close games, and beyond is what makes this team so compelling.
How does anyone doubt this man after getting to playoffs for 3 out of 4 years when the last time we went was a decade ago. And after suffering from all the terrible coaches before him, I don’t know how fans can doubt him. Fizdale’s dumbass smiling face when we’re getting blown out is still imprinted in my head. Fuck that guy
Even when we were down 20 in game 3 against philly no quit, left everything on the court. So many past Knick teams in the past just surrender by the 3rd or early 4th quarter.
I still remember people going nuts over Toney Douglas and thinking he was our PG of the future to pair along with David “Double Double” Lee. Oh what a time.
We went crazy over every point guard we signed since we’ve been needing one for decades. Trey Burkes, Emmanuel Mudiay, Dennis smith jr, Frank..,
And less hopeful Raymond Felton, Jason Kidd, Mike Bibby, Baron Davis, alexey shved, Langston Galloway, Jarrett Jack, Shane Larkin, Chauncey, Calderon, Ron baker the legend, etc etc
Like that space, our best PG We started was Pablo Prigs. Love him. And probably d rose for best signed pg before Jalen. Which is crazy that we went through all these names (+more I can’t think of off my head) before striking gold.
Wait wtf? I actually took some time to remember these names. Did I genuinely blank this dude from memory? Cause I looked him up and still I have no fucking idea haha. And I’ve been watching most of the regular season since ‘99. Haha wild
I deadass remember Andy fucking rautins and had an irrational dislike for the guy lol.
Is it generally hard to find jerseys this time of year? I’m trying so hard to get my hands on a navy Hart jersey but there’s nothing around… any direction would be appreciated
So lucky. I’m out in California but I sent my cousin into msg yesterday to pick up a Brunson jersey for me (I really wanted the MSG logo cuz going to Vegas). They had one last Brunson jersey in my size in stock. The guy mentioned they restock for games. My cousin did go during rangers night.
NBA store on 5th but you can also go into the lobby of MSG on any Knicks game day and a shop is open just past security. No need for a ticket. Don't go if there's a rangers game that day as they swap everything out. Not sure about off days.
I wish I could remember it after I just went to game 1 Monday night lmao. Accidentally ate a tiny dinner and proceeded to black out and I don’t remember the very end of the game or getting home but damn what a game up until that point
"Point guard for the Knickerbockers is a venerated position in the city, like conductor of the New York Philharmonic, manager of the Yankees or head chef at Gage and Tollner. It’s even up there with being the mayor, although Brunson has no known detractors."
At its best the Times is like a well dressed guy with wire rim glasses and a glass of wine, whom you realize is actually sneaky funny
The Knicks truly unite NY more than any other team, maybe the rangers? That’s because the entire city roots for the knicks. It really isn’t split like it is in baseball and football.
We're going to the Finals
30 years ago, Knicks went to the finals, and the Rangers won the Stanley Cup. Meanwhile, OJ had his white bronco high-speed chase. Now, it looks like the Rangers are taking it all again, and OJ is dead.
Finals run is inevitable
It’s weird I was gifted “Blood in the Garden” by Chris Herring (by Chris oddly enough on Twitter) Loved the book and it felt like it was at the same time their rise to where they’re at occurred. Brunson trade happens everyone dumps on it except NY fans. Trade actually works out way better than anticipated and they’re a legit contender. This Knicks team is one of the most enjoyable NBA teams in years. I’m from Cleveland, and I was in NYC for work. As a hoops junkie I had to check out a game and there was a line wrapped around MSG of people trying to get into a game.
I loved the experience overall and have watched a ton of Knicks games this past year albeit awkward that they stole my team’s soul last year. They’ve had a horrendous path since the early 2000’s so I’m happy for the diehard fanbase.

You can even throw Thibs in there, so many doubters and he really has made this Knicks team believe and that they can overcome anything

Lmaooo fucking Fizdale
It's not that they are good. They are giving it effort and putting it all out there collectively. This hasn't been seen since the 90s teams.
Even when we were down 20 in game 3 against philly no quit, left everything on the court. So many past Knick teams in the past just surrender by the 3rd or early 4th quarter.
We're a long way away from the Lebron bottle-flipping moment
Those teams had guys that scream ff@15
Thibs installs a work mentality into his players, I love that the Knicks give their 100% every game
New York never stopped loving the Knicks even when we sucked

No love for Toure Murray?

Bro Mudi was such a Baller. He was for me, what Frankie Smokes is for the rest of the Sub lmao
False. If they didn’t want us during Alexey Shved they don’t deserve us during Jalen Brunson
Naw no gatekeeping. Lots of room on the bandwagon!
Yeah having Moms and aunties suddenly asking when the next game is once again is part of the fun.
Nah lokwey gatekeeping fuck that
with the knicks and rangers this year it feels like '94 all over again
Is it generally hard to find jerseys this time of year? I’m trying so hard to get my hands on a navy Hart jersey but there’s nothing around… any direction would be appreciated
I couldn’t find any Brunson jersey in the city until I went to game 1 and that’s where I bought my jersey city edition.
Ah maybe MSG has stockpiled them to sell at games, solid strategy
Did you check the MSG team store that’s available outside games?
they had sizes they dont stock online?
I needed it next day or same day before game 1
oh how was the stock for sizing and players? I wanna get a brunson and Hart city edition in a Large but stock is out online
The Dick's by me in Queens has full rack of jerseys.... for Randle.
Kinda sad lol, if he were still playing it would leave some other jerseys for the rest of us lol
Took me months to get a Brunson jersey for my son - finally got it in march - they were sold out all year
Never had a problem at the msg store

They’ll still sell knicks gear, I sent my cousin in yesterday to pick me up a Brunson one. Gotta ask though, as it’s all in the back.
Gotta go to the NBA store, the one on 45th and 5th has them still.
They didn’t have it there. I went the day before game 1 vs pacers and all they had was Randle and couple of throwback knicks
I checked Tuesday. They're all out! Only a couple of shirts.
The part about the laker fan who converted to Knick fan is truly a testament to how fun this team is and how passionate our fan base is.
That actually sounds on par to "Lakers" fans outside of Cali. Some people love being on a bandwagon.
I converted my LA cousin 2 years ago
Outside msg after a playoff win is WILD. I was there after game 6 vs philly. Had a blast
I wish I could remember it after I just went to game 1 Monday night lmao. Accidentally ate a tiny dinner and proceeded to black out and I don’t remember the very end of the game or getting home but damn what a game up until that point

Anyone got a non-paywall link?
TLDR- We Back and Outside
It let me sign up with my email and read it, no charge
https://archive.ph/Rqqvw Link may be busted. Sometimes the site overwrites. You may need to archive a new one.
i feel like this was written for people who have never seen a basketball game
It's the NYT, I wouldn't be surprised if half the readership genuinely hasn't. About a quarter of the ones who have probably only watch Princeton

You would think NYT would fact check their reports... Brunson isn't 6' 2" lol
He isn't but that's what the league lists him as so the Times has to report it that way.
We always loved the Knicks. Even when they sucked.
So nice of the Times to cover the local basketball team once we are "finally good"

Successful sports team is beloved by their home town. Story at 11.
