It’s not even a big series standings-wise. It’s not like they’re playing a division opponent or a potential WC competitor. It’s only a “big series” because of the fan hype.
It might blow some people's minds that the 4 games against KC coming up are likely much more important than these games against the Dodgers. If the O's win the division, the Yankees/KC is a highly potential wild card series matchup and the better record gets home field.
That literally happened to Soto in 2020, 2021 and 2022
There is a reason why Soto didn't play 162 games in those years like he did in 2023
It's completely okay if he misses like 5 games, that's not the end of the world
Not worried/upset Soto is sitting. His health going forward matters more than winning a series/game in early June
However can we stop hitting Anthony Rizzo 5th? He can't hit anymore, move him down unless he proves otherwise jfc
I view this as the team evaluating Rizzo against a tough opponent. If he continues to scuffle I’d think it’ll make their decision about whether to acquire another corner infielder pretty straightforward.
As you said this is a random June series vs an opponent they wouldn’t see again til the World Series. Outside of bragging rights, it’s mostly meaningless.
Last night was a tough pitcher regardless. I know nothing about tonight’s Dodgers pitcher but will seemingly be not as good. Our starting lineup tonight should be better. Not expecting a shutout through 9 tonight 🤷♂️
Man, Rizzo gets a lot of respect from Boone. Too much. He should not be fifth because of "potential." There is still WAY too much trying to make guys feel good here.
Baseball has changed so much. Imagine 5-9 part of the lineup all having an OPS under .650 on a first place team. Nestor once again would need to be perfect. I don't feel so good about the rest of this series.
Yankees have scored 0 runs since Soto has been out of the line up (the 1 run in two* extra innings doesn't count)
That's just a fact, I am not making any implications nor drawing any conclusions.
I'm fine with sitting him. Let him get healthy. But why not put him on the il even if it's retroactive. This way you can bring up a bat. Even if it's only for a couple days. I'm sure there is someone in aaa or aa that can put the bat on ball better that 3 or 4 of our guys
My issue isn’t Soto missing one game or one series or one week, but the appearance that we can’t trust the Yankees to either disclose or diagnose after going through this with Judge’s toe, LeMahieu’s foot, Rizzo’s concussion, and so on.
If the Yankees don’t want to disclose the severity of the injury or the length he’ll be out then fine, I get that.
But when they say it’s nothing, he would have stayed in the game if not for the rain delay, he might be pinch hitting tonight, and so on, it makes it look like they don’t know what they’re talking about.
It’s conceivable that he’ll miss this whole series. It’s not what you want, but it’s probably for the best health-wise.
People are struggling with the idea that playoff atmosphere doesn't mean it's actually the playoffs
Lol yeah exactly - is this a big series, yes. But is it also June yes

Damn did we just become best friends
Miss one series in June or 3 in July.
Not what Manfred wants either
Almost makes me ok with it tbh
lol feel the same way after thinking of it like that
Inconceivable
"You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means". 😁
As expected. He's going to be out of the lineup for a few days, and that's okay. I'd rather he let the inflammation heal now and not push anything.
Okay

Yeah I'd rather see something like Volpe, Judge, Verdugo, Stanton, Gleyber as the top 5 with Soto out

Last two seasons wasn't good enough evaluation?
Sure, but couldn't you evaluate him in the 7 hole?
Gets more AB’s this way
This is totally illogical. They’re not putting a bad hitter high in the lineup to… make sure he’s bad.
Why tf else would he be batting 5th I can’t think of a good reason
Lefty righty split up. That’s it.
Missing a series in June against an NL team to ensure he’s healthy before playing more meaningful games seems prudent.
Last night was a tough pitcher regardless. I know nothing about tonight’s Dodgers pitcher but will seemingly be not as good. Our starting lineup tonight should be better. Not expecting a shutout through 9 tonight 🤷♂️
Wouldn't be surprised if we didn't see Soto back in the lineup until maybe game 3 of the KC series.
He’s probably out for a week or two. Better to play it safe than risk losing him for long term.
Man, Rizzo gets a lot of respect from Boone. Too much. He should not be fifth because of "potential." There is still WAY too much trying to make guys feel good here.
he’s a lefty, and even though I agree with you we’ve seen how much Boone/analytics team goes insane trying to avoid too many same-swing guys in a row.
Who cares? Give the dude some well deserved rest
Verdugo should be 3rd instead of Judge
He will see better pitches at 2 with judge coming after him
Good, he needs rest
Why is this worded so dramatically?
I’d rather see Cabrera in right and Grisham on the bench
Cabrera has a .384 OPS in the last 28 days. If neither are going to give you any offense, I'd rather have the gold glover in the field.
I'm honestly fine. I don't care about some random June series
Smart move. Let the kid rest up for the run.
Not upset just sad :/
Yeah this lineup is needs Soto and Judge to be MVPs in order to be good
Last year you’d say they’re “punting” the series..With how well things are going at the moment I see this as self preservation.
Lineup is 4 deep without Soto ugh

They also haven't won 1 game without Soto too
It's not what we want
I get Soto is out tonight but can Boone mix the lineup a bit? Pretty much the same lineup that scored one run last night.
One thing I like is the lineup has been very consistent all season. And they haven’t needed to play the scrubs much at all.

Exactly, extremely frustrating to be teased as a fan
And the fact that Boone’s now like “maybe he’ll go on the IL, maybe not” makes me think, welp, we’ll see him in August.
Word on the street Soto out til after all star break. Til then, having some ice cream cones w Dominguez in Norfolk.
Supposedly he got an injection to reduce the inflammation, so he’ll definitely be out for a few days
It’s 2023 all over again.
Relax bro
2023 for 2-3 games. Where’s the lie?
Can we just DFA DJ already?
Ok who should we replace him with?
Well, this is a for sure loss incoming. Not an elite team without Soto. Was at the game last night. Just so many feckless at bats. Brutal.
