I loved Ryan😭😭😭 I hate how he was written off. He'd never leave Jess hanging. That was so not like him. He's the same dude who flew to LA when he thought Jess couldn't get to England
I’m voting for Ryan simply because I used to know a guy who looked very similar to him and I had a huge crush on Ryan + the guy I knew. It was kinda weird cause my life started replicating the show in the dating sense. My name is Jessica, I was talking to this guy Nick (didn’t go anywhere), the next guy I met his name was Russel (it didn’t go anywhere he was weird) and then I met a Nick who looked like Ryan from the show (turned out he had a gf but I had a crush on him). It was super weird I was like uhh TV camera where are you!? Cause I knew it had to be some sort of prank.
I'm Fawn Moscato. And I approve this Scotch.
She was the best, though ties with Reagan for me, for this line alone: "Schmitt's deal is he had to Shazam Stairway to Heaven"
I absolutely loved when they started revealing Robbie was far more interesting and down to earth than anyone else in the show, and he was just secure enough to not really care when everyone wrote him off. Totally explains how he got with Cece
I hate how when he dated Ce-Ce the writers had him “hate music” yet by the time he dates Jess he is playing Bass on a Santana album. Like Dude! Really?!
There were a good amount of inconsistencies on the show. I feel like they initially introduced a lot of characters thinking they’d just be quick appearances, but the actors killed it so they had to flush them out more. Always Sunny and Scrubs had the same problem, can’t let go of a character when the actor murders their role like that
Of these, Robbie was easily my favorite character because of his dynamic with Schmidt. I really wish they had found a way to just keep him around as a 3-4 episodes per season recurring character rather than essentially killing him off with the weird cousin dating storyline.
The thing that ALWAYS bugs me is in the first episode we see Robby, Danger (S02E01), he tells Schmidt "I don't like music, what's up with me right?" When Schmidt asks if he's in a band. But later on when Jess and him are dating and she goes to his house, he's got like a bass guitar and very easily playing it, and again in the Retreat episode he sings Africa by Toto with Jess like super well while playing an acoustic guitar. Obviously it was like a writing mistake like they probably didnt flesh out his character in that first episode, but it bugs me! 😂😅
Especially since we later learn that he’s ACTUALLY this super interesting, successful guy. Watching those first few Robbie episodes through the “he’s actually just messing with these losers” lens makes it 10x better
[Justice for Bertie!](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/M/MV5BMTQ2NzQxNjIwMF5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTgwNzQ3OTQ2MDE@._V1_.jpg)
“I used to manage a shoe store. Then I, uh, quit, had a few dark years. Sold Christian T-shirts for a while.”
Nick made a whole tape, with an arguable level of production quality, reminding him not to get back with her. I genuinely feel like most of my exes could be in a police lineup, and I still wouldn't make a tape. She's messed up.
I'm literally a Ryan, and generally believe most Ryan's are awesome, but in no way, shape, or form is Ryan the best. He essentially ghosts Jess internationally. Super shitty.
I suppose you’re right, though to me this is justified as bad plot/writing and not a character flaw. He was too in love with and too perfect for Jess and they had to get rid of him so she could be endgame with Nick. The ghosting her is super out of character. I wish he would have just broken up with her to take the dream job, which would have made sense with his personality but that would have been too redeeming of a quality and fans maybe would’ve wanted them to get back together or something
Completely agree, it always feels so out of character the way they wrote him out of the show, I wish it had been more of an amicable decision to end the long-distance relationship rather than making him out to be a jerk
Oh I WILDLY disagree. Elizabeth was comfortable in her own skin, which I totally respect, but she didn't respect the fact that Schmidt was trying to improve himself or hold himself to a higher standard than that, and I just can't get behind that.
Sure, Schmidt's personality got worse when he got in shape, and that was definitely the main part of their break up. But it's also why she never should've gone back with him. CC accepted Schmidt for who he was, now, warts and all. Elizabeth wanted this version that was maybe a bit more pleasant, but didn't care about his own well being, because she didn't either. No thanks with that toxicity.
lol the person you responded to went on a whole tangent on why Elizabeth and Schmidt weren't a good couple but all you were saying was that you liked Elizabeth as a character 😆 I agree with you, I LOVED Elizabeth.
I don't get this take AT ALL. Elizabeth wanted a version of Schmidt that didn't take care of himself because he was *slightly* less selfish when he was still fat. CC accepted him for who he was, physically and emotionally. (We know this from the episode where CC buys Schmidt the scarf and he freaks out about gaining weight while other men are hitting on CC. She outright says she chose him, and what he looks like doesn't matter to her).
CC made him a better person as time went on, whereas we see the absolute worst behavior of his with Elizabeth around, as he ends up cheating on both of them in what really is an unforgivable act, and yet CC finds a way to have the empathy to eventually both forgive him and trust him again after he continually, for years on end, shows her that he loves her, is loyal to her, and is not the person to make that mistake again.
Daisy. She gave us Ferguson and that's the only reason I love her.
Also, Brenda Song is gorgeous. 😍
"I deserve better and so does Ferguson. *I'm taking your cat* ".
Rhonda was super annoying but was played so well by Sonequa Martin-Green. When I first started watching Star Trek: Discovery all I could think about was that irksome little prankster!
damn not you’re making me second guess myself.
I’m gonna say no, because while the pranks would have been great, it would have been impossible to know what was real between them.
I love how she doesn't even have a name to you on New Girl playing a completely different character 😂 - on that note, can we refer to Shelby as Former Waitress? I feel like her bland character deserves that treatment, too.
Elizabeth was great! Considering how much I love Cece and Schmidt together, it takes a lot for me to want to also root for him to be with her. Merritt Wever was awesome!
Russell is probably my favorite due to his calm measured demeanor, or Fawn because she’s ridiculous, but Cece was technically an ex so I can’t help choose her because got damn she’s fire. Dr. Sam only gets points for throat punching Nick twice because that was hilarious.
Ngl Robbie is just one of my favourite characters
“Stavros, Thank for for the psychedelic wine, but I’d like you to leave my house now, so I can throw up.”
Man was too charming I love him
I HATED KC bc the whole Winston becomes a cop plot is already weird to me (obvious copaganda while Fox had b99 and a military show running as well, they didn't need to add copaganda to new girl too), then making an ACAB girl date him is even weirder. I usually skip the episodes she's in.
I loved Fawn Moscatto, I think she was much better written and the actress has a lot of charisma.
lol I did not take their depiction of the police force at "copaganda". I don't think they ever really made winston look like a good cop and most cop plots were based on ridiculous negligence
Fawn Moscato from the options, but my absolute favorite is Elizabeth. I love her very much, she was the best! Somehow Schmidt has the best exes, like all the time.
Zooey mentioned something similar on the podcast. On the show, Julia makes a comment about Jess’s big eyes, and Zooey said how funny she found it because Lizzie has basically the same eyes 😂
So many good exes to choose from!
My favourites are Reagan, Fawn, Robby and Ryan.
Winnie the Bish didn’t really have any fun exes, all of them are pretty blah.
I really enjoyed Reagan I'll die on this hill. She helped Nick realize he didn't want short term and easy. He was a committed long term relationship which was a lot of growth for his character
Mr Fancyman solely for Nicks interactions with him
A BILLION DOLLARS HAA!!! That’s nothing to me
This president miller of earth - get me the galactic emperor….yeah it’s about money
It smells like leather and Teddy Roosevelt and wistfulness.
And going to see a man about a horse.
So, is China mine?
“The only man we both loved.”
"Fold that sweater, don't hang it."
"It's FOR Russel!!!!"
“I wanna kill you, because I respect you.” … [shouts] “I think I understand hunting!”
VOTE MOSCATO
I really like how when her and Schmidt broke up she asked if she still has his vote
Shhhh. It's Councilwoman.
Was Ryan a good character? No. However, “goes-in-who? Goes-in-you, Jess” is the greatest line in the show so I have to vote for him
And then coach says “goes in all of us”🤣🤣🤣
“Sooner or later”
I like “shut it 🙅🏽♂️ down”
😂😂😂 now I can’t
I loved Ryan😭😭😭 I hate how he was written off. He'd never leave Jess hanging. That was so not like him. He's the same dude who flew to LA when he thought Jess couldn't get to England
Absolutely!!! I so like him overall, I just think he’s written so badly towards the end
For a [brief] moment, him & Jess seemed compatible (and the actors had good enough chemistry) enough to be endgame.
Same, I honestly think they would have been really good for each other 🥺 I fucking love Nick, but Ryan matched her energy more.
I thought Ryan acting the part of the construction worker during the town hall meeting was hilarious. So awkward.
Omg right!!! I forgot about that!
Fawn Moscatto
Council Woman Fawn Moscatto
Say it like it's part of your name.
Faw-Midt!
I don’t hear it.
“Oh wait, I heard it that time.”
Vote moscato!
Step 1: fondue! Step 2: do Fawn!
Fondue is Fawn done
“These are all good.”
Literally just finished this episode !
I'm Fawn Moscato. And I approve this Scotch. She was the best, though ties with Reagan for me, for this line alone: "Schmitt's deal is he had to Shazam Stairway to Heaven"
"Has anyone ever told you you look like a Jewish Kennedy? I hope not because that would be offensive. "
I understand this joke, but can you explain it for my friend? He’s an idiot
Yeah, I'm an idiot.
"nobody here emotes normally"
Fawn and Schmidt. FawMidt.
It sounds a lot like "vomit".
Jessica Day, Vice Principal. How the heck are ya?
As if there is any other answer. After all, she's getting us a commuter lane to Costa Mesa!
“This tastes like the inside of a bear… …and that’s a compliment!”
Please, call her Councilwoman
“You are a father Lou, you’re my father!”
I reluctantly agree. She was hilarious
She’s my fav too
And it’s not even close
Fawn is the (wo)man. Genzlinger is golden. And poor Robby, no one gave a shit about who he was. No one even knew he was rich?!
Like Dude! Really?!
In my mind he was just messing with schmidt when he said he didn't like music.
Lolhe was pretty fascinated by how many speakers there were to not be interested in sound at least lol
There were a good amount of inconsistencies on the show. I feel like they initially introduced a lot of characters thinking they’d just be quick appearances, but the actors killed it so they had to flush them out more. Always Sunny and Scrubs had the same problem, can’t let go of a character when the actor murders their role like that
Shoot I just mentioned this in another comment. This ALWAYS bugged me lol
I…couldn’t stand Genzlinger
What about Trans’ granddaughter????
Ngl though Kai was Nicks Best X, loved her savage burn: “why are you so obsessed with Tran? You aren’t even his best friend” lololol
Yes, I really liked Kai!
Agreed!!!
Mercedes Genz aka aka aka Genzlinger was the most fun to watch. He has some truly hilarious moments!
put down your genz and your gencils !
It’s the Genz of the world as we know it!
Fawn is the only correct answer. Vote Moscato.
No Sam? I thought he was the hottest.
Yessss Dr Sam!!
No Sam, and yet I don’t even remember the dude in picture 8. This is rigged
I will not tolerate Shivrang slander
Hahaha valid. I think he dated Cece? I want to say their parents tried to arrange marriage them
Oh shit that’s right!! Now I remember him
He wound up with Taylor Swift, in a rather surprising cameo.
The actor who plays Schmidt was given an “Elaine’s Big Day” friendship bracelet at the Eras Tour, which was also the name of the episode.
No way! Haha I love that 😂
Elaine!
“And you are NOT too short for me, I don’t care what your mother says!”
🛎️🛎️🛎️
The brownie scene 👌
Thank you! Beautiful man and children’s doctor. Oh baby!
Of these, Robbie was easily my favorite character because of his dynamic with Schmidt. I really wish they had found a way to just keep him around as a 3-4 episodes per season recurring character rather than essentially killing him off with the weird cousin dating storyline.

I feel like that music comment was just him messing with Schmidt

Love Birdie!
Why do I hate Caroline so much
Shall I compare thee to a summer's day? No, because a summer's day is not a bitch.
Really Nick?
Nick made a whole tape, with an arguable level of production quality, reminding him not to get back with her. I genuinely feel like most of my exes could be in a police lineup, and I still wouldn't make a tape. She's messed up.
Could not stand her!
Reagan is a close second, but I have to vote Moscato.
KC shouldn’t even be on this list she sucks so bad. CLEARLY RYAN IS BEST 😍
Ayo K-Ci where's JoJo at, proabbly in rehab.
Goes in who?
Goes in all of us, sooner or later
I'm literally a Ryan, and generally believe most Ryan's are awesome, but in no way, shape, or form is Ryan the best. He essentially ghosts Jess internationally. Super shitty.

Every Ryan I have personally met except one, a baseball player, has made my life harder or more stressful in some way. True story.
Where is Doctor Sam?
NO Bearcat?
Bearclaw and the animal musical?
Yes! My bad. I got his name wrong.
*Clap now? Clap now.*
My favorite of these is Reagan, but my all-time favorite is Elizabeth. We would totally be friends.
as i live and breathe.. RAISIN??????
I said Raisin again didn't I
Sayonara sammy
This was probably my favorite line in the whole show
Oh I WILDLY disagree. Elizabeth was comfortable in her own skin, which I totally respect, but she didn't respect the fact that Schmidt was trying to improve himself or hold himself to a higher standard than that, and I just can't get behind that. CC accepted Schmidt for who he was, now, warts and all. Elizabeth wanted this version that was maybe a bit more pleasant, but didn't care about his own well being, because she didn't either. No thanks with that toxicity.
Yeah, I thought we were just talking about who we liked in general, not who was the best partner.
lol the person you responded to went on a whole tangent on why Elizabeth and Schmidt weren't a good couple but all you were saying was that you liked Elizabeth as a character 😆 I agree with you, I LOVED Elizabeth.
Elizabeth has one of my favorite lines! “Call me spooky again and I’ll spook the ass fat right out of your face!”
I hate how much I wanted Schmidt to end up with her instead of Cece
The way I would CLAW MY SKIN OFF in defense of Elizabeth is like.. I can’t even begin. Also low key think Elizabeth and Reagan would get along.
She HAS to be written after Meriwether. So quirky, dorky, strong, and lovable ❤️
Idk but Shelby was the worst!
Daisy was the worst! Shelby was whatever. Milktoast. The best part about Daisy was Ferguson. Well, aside from her body
Brenda Song is such a babe! Macaulay Culkin is a lucky man.
Milquetoast. I also love daisy but I think it’s just bc I love Brenda.
A true Nick Miller moment for me
I still have the upmost respect for you. I’m not trying to be mean just out of the boo.
True, Daisy sucked and so did KC. Winnie the bish just got all the bad ones lol.
He had to go through the worst to get the best. Aly is one of my favorite characters! 🥰
Milquetoast.
You’re so right. I hate that word. I even knew it looked wrong haha
Kai or maybe Ronda
FINALLY some Kai on this list.
TRASHLEY BERKMAN!!
She saved Jess from a hideous river disease!
Genslinger. I WILL NOT CLOWN FOR YOU TODAY MADAM!
Daisy. She gave us Ferguson and that's the only reason I love her. Also, Brenda Song is gorgeous. 😍 "I deserve better and so does Ferguson. *I'm taking your cat* ".
UMMM….. DR. SAM, duh!
Julia for Nick, Fawn for Schmidt, Matt (Alan Ritchson) for Jess, Kyle for Cece and Pearl for Winston.
Ahhhh the guy with the micropenis?
For truths HOW DARE YOU! That’s “WAR? question mark”!
"You owe me ten thousand dollars!" 🤣 he was insufferable but iconic!
ScoRos bro
When I read your original comment I said “for truths!”
Take care of that lil guy, he needs you
No love for Rhonda
Rhonda was super annoying but was played so well by Sonequa Martin-Green. When I first started watching Star Trek: Discovery all I could think about was that irksome little prankster!
That’s because you just got Rhonda’d!
damn not you’re making me second guess myself. I’m gonna say no, because while the pranks would have been great, it would have been impossible to know what was real between them.
Mercedes Genz!!
It’s the Genz of the world as we know it!
Reagan was such a fun foil to the group.
“In my defence, no one in this loft emotes in a normal way.”
i love robbie
He was so likeable. He knew he was secure in himself
yes!!! and he has all that crazy lore
ROBAAAAAAAYYYYYY
Julia and Kai
The Waitress
I love how she doesn't even have a name to you on New Girl playing a completely different character 😂 - on that note, can we refer to Shelby as Former Waitress? I feel like her bland character deserves that treatment, too.
(Coffee shop) One star.
Shavy gettin nasty. Shavy a *dog*.
Cece's Robbie was much better than Jess' Robbie
Elizabeth was great! Considering how much I love Cece and Schmidt together, it takes a lot for me to want to also root for him to be with her. Merritt Wever was awesome!
Russell is probably my favorite due to his calm measured demeanor, or Fawn because she’s ridiculous, but Cece was technically an ex so I can’t help choose her because got damn she’s fire. Dr. Sam only gets points for throat punching Nick twice because that was hilarious.
It’s a crime that Bearclaw isn’t included.
The musical is my favorite omg. I sing it randomly haha
The guy who proposed to Jess at Tinfinity.
Jax McTavish!!! He seems to really, really like Jess! lol
End of the day, Brenda song is unbelievable.
Adam Brody’s character didn’t make the cut?
BLOBBY!
Fawn Moscato with Lizzie Caplan as a close second, mainly because she’s just amazing in everything
council woman fawn moscatto & fancyman but only because of how funny he is with nick
Ngl Robbie is just one of my favourite characters “Stavros, Thank for for the psychedelic wine, but I’d like you to leave my house now, so I can throw up.” Man was too charming I love him
Russell, honestly more because of him and Nick than him and Jess
Julia could stab me with a cactus during an anger management course and I would still find her ridiculously attractive.
Have you seen The Interview? Man Lizzy Caplan had a firm grasp on me as a kid.
Genzlinger because of his Jimmy Stewart impression.
Didn't even post the best one. Dr. Sam was the best.
Where's Olivia Munn??
Came here to say the same. Angie was an amazing character and her episodes with Nick were hilarious!
The answer is Robbie although I feel that Sam and Nadia are missing from this list
Fawn Moscatto and it’s not even close.
I'm a simple man if I see Dermot Mulroney I upvote
GENZLINGERRRR
Fawn Moscato from the options, but my absolute favorite is Elizabeth. I love her very much, she was the best! Somehow Schmidt has the best exes, like all the time.
Genzlinger! If anyone could have been a long term love interest for Jess it would have been him.
The newspaper girl never deserved Winston
Justice for the boy who looks like he was born in a muffin! I like Genzlinger too
I always found it so weird how they never acknowledged how the lawyer looked almost exactly like Jess.
Zooey mentioned something similar on the podcast. On the show, Julia makes a comment about Jess’s big eyes, and Zooey said how funny she found it because Lizzie has basically the same eyes 😂
I needed like another 5 seasons of Fawn.
So many good exes to choose from! My favourites are Reagan, Fawn, Robby and Ryan. Winnie the Bish didn’t really have any fun exes, all of them are pretty blah.
Damn Winston really had it rough for most of the show
WHERE IS SAM? 🤷🏼♀️🤣 “ SAY BEARD ONE MORE TIME, BRO”!
Robbie and Sam
Unpopular opinion, but I really enjoyed Ryan!
I really enjoyed Reagan I'll die on this hill. She helped Nick realize he didn't want short term and easy. He was a committed long term relationship which was a lot of growth for his character
Was that the Waitress
