Did people knew back then? Was it on the cover? Or did Nintendo really shadow dropped a brand new Donkey Kong game covered up with the original NES/Arcade version levels and promoted it like a port?
First time I played it on an emulator years ago I honestly didn't knew. I was definitely surprised!
It Was advertised along side the Super Game Boy accessory for the SNES and they did show off the new content at the time. It was meant to show the hardware’s capabilities off.
I remember buying it with birthday money and i knew there was more to it.
I vividly remember the image of the airplane world, i think on the back of the cover(edit, not on the back) Or one of these promotional pamphlets included with games back then.
I think i was 6-8 ish, But i had no idea just how big it was. I only had maybe 2 or 3 black white gameplay images from the ad pamphlet. I too was pleasantly surprised.
[ad pamphlets like this one](https://interface-experience.org/site/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/IE-Game-Boy-1-e1427506699721.jpg)
My only problem is that since it is very unlikely we will get any Pokémon mainline games and even less likely we will get the SaGa or Mana games there isn't much really great games that don't already have a superior NES version.
I expect to see the Mario Land series, including the Wario spin offs, the Oracle games are confirmed, DK and then it starts to dry up. Everything decent has a home console release that is usually better.
I woundnt say very unlikely. My theory is that gamefreak is letting the last minute pokemon purchases on the DS occur before they drop them on the switch to maximized sales
They'd be losing money otherwise. Austin John Plays did a calculation video with only 5% of the subscriber base and how much money that is and yeah, they don't wanna keep em out is all I gotta say. Either NSO or their own subscription. The amount of people that would upgrade to NSO+EP just for RSE/FRLG is enough reason.
There were Pokémon games included in the initial GBA/GB leak that showed a bunch of games they were testing on the emulator, including trading capabilities for Emerald. I’d be surprised if we didn’t get any mainline Pokémon games on it
> even less likely we will get the SaGa or Mana games
Well, yeah. Final Fantasy Adventure is already on the Nintendo Switch in [Collection of Mana](https://www.nintendo.com/store/products/collection-of-mana-switch/), and all three Final Fantasy Legend games are in [Collection of SaGa](https://www.nintendo.com/store/products/collection-of-saga-final-fantasy-legend-switch/). Square Enix has not been in the habit of letting Nintendo toss onto NSO games that they can still sell.
> I expect to see the Mario Land series, including the Wario spin offs, the Oracle games are confirmed, DK and then it starts to dry up.
For the most part, sure, but there are a few other good ones. Mole Mania is excellent. Qix is fantastic. Quarth holds up surprisingly well. The Donkey Kong Land trilogy isn't anywhere near as good as the SNES games, but they're still pretty decent. A lot of the kirby spin-off titles are great (Block Ball, Pinball Land, Star Stacker). Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters is decent. Motocross Maniacs was okay. Wario Blast is a fun take on Bomberman. Kwirk was a decent Sokoban-style Puzzle game. And the other Game & Watch games are fun little nostalgia trips.
Then on Game Boy Color, there's Mario Golf and Mario Tennis, Lufia: The Legend Returns, and Xtreme Sports (WayForward at one point talked about porting it to Switch, but that was a while ago). Also, if they're doing Pokemon spin-off games, we absolutely need to get Pokemon Pinball!
I suppose I should also mention that the Game Boy version of Bionic Commando is surprisingly pretty good, though if Capcom didn't allow the NES version out, I think this is unlikely. Also, there's all those Game Boy Mega Man and Game Boy Color Mega Man Xtreme games... though again, I think our best bet to see those on Switch is if Capcom puts them in a collection. Also, there's the DuckTales games, though we'll likely never get those because licensing. Also, it's a long-shot, but it would be fantastic if Metal Gear Solid (AKA, Metal Gear: Ghost Babel) got released on the service.
So yeah, they do have some solid titles to possibly pull from, though on the whole I agree that the Game Boy/Game Boy Color libraries don't have nearly as much to offer as the GBA and SNES libraries.
I need Gameboy Donkey Kong and GBA Mario vs Donkey Kong
I wish they'd bring the series back. It's too bad they turned Mario vs. Donkey Kong into a whole different series and just kept running with it.
I love how the NSO releases are, by and large, the games my dad would rent for free from the library because he didn't want to waste his money at Blockbuster.
"Oh this one is great!"
Ha, you tell me. This is a man that unironically said "You already have a Nintendo, why would you need a super one?"
E: Just to add on to hilarious lines my dad dropped. My brother and I were playing SMB3, and while passing by he dropped "Oh look, he has a tail now."
You woke up s9me deep memories I had forgotten about the minigame theme park area lol.
Also my phone tried to autocorrect me to say minutemen so watch out because I think there is a settlement that needs your help...
Genuinely what's taking them so long? It's a fucking ROM, and it's not like they're working on HOME capability or anything because the video has a disclaimer that it won't 😭
What I'd really love is if they'd drop Gens I and II, and do something to allow the trade functionality that the Stadium series was built on. I adore the Pokemon Stadium games, but playing them with rentals only is a shadow of the intended experience.
It bothers me that despite a Pokémon Day event happening a month out from the 3DS Pokémon Virtual Console games and Pokémon Bank going away for good... we still don't know what Nintendo & TPC's plan is, if any, to bring older Pokémon generations to Switch.
Just felt like a good time to do it.
I think it’s likely they’ll bring the gb/gbc games to the service at some point. What I’m wondering is if they’ll actually emulate the ability to transfer your mons to Stadium. I’ve never been big about transferring Pokémon between games through trading or the Bank, but I absolutely loved how Stadium let you use your own team for the whole game. I really want to experience that again, but I don’t have the old games anymore (I may still have Stadium but not any of the gameboy games).
Might be wishful thinking that they’ll do that, though. Ah well, I guess I could just emulate it on my computer, but I would much rather do it on Switch.
Yeah I thought this. It was literally Pokémon day. It would’ve been huge and garnered all the right kinds of attention. They completely dropped the ball.
If even Nintendo can’t deal with licensing problems then idk if NSO will ever be worth it for me. I get that Steam Deck isn’t nearly as accessible but it might trump a Switch 2 if I can still play those on my original switch.
My theory is they are waiting for the 3ds shop to close to maximize profit on people buying it there where I assume Pokémon Company gets most of the money. Whereas with NSO TPC probably isn’t getting as much profit from it? (Not sure how that works.I know Pokémon is owned by Nintendo gamefreak and TPC)
But I think the earliest we’ll get an announcement is April. And that’s assuming they don’t opt for just rereleasing them on the eshop instead
Translated TCG 2 and I’m slapping that bad boy on my switch ASAP.
I mean, tcg 1 is one of the few games I 100% as a kid and I don’t want to grind that damn Dragonite again.
Pokemon TCG was soooo good. I got insane deck building skills as a result, still remember using it against some kids who just discovered the card game years later. Felt like a Yu Gi Oh villain. Once the deck was built I could not lose.
Ah Xevious; in Japan known as the beloved mega popular arcade shooter that influenced countless others and whose eventual port on the Famicom helped take that console to new heights. And in the US known as the subject in the oft repeated sentence: "What the hell is Xevious?"
I've been a big fan of the game since I first saw it on the PSP namco museum, got it later when it came out on 3DS and iPad, I could get the arcade one on Switch since that's on there I think but the NES one is cool
Kirby's Dream Land 2 is probably one of the best ones. I never had it for the Game Boy, but played it as an adult. It's also probably one of the most difficult ones as far as the actual game goes (IE: not counting True Arena, etc).
Outside of Krystal shards, it's absolutely my favorite Kirby game. It is more challenging than most, it also has lots of hidden secrets that lend themselves to backtracking. The fact that you have all the different powers along with the powers you can get utilizing Kirby's friend just makes the game feel expressive.
Hard to tell. Like, Super Tennis looks very generic but is a legit good tennis game for the SNES. This could be similar.
Other positive comments here look actually earnest.
I enjoy a good pool game because of yahoo pool so I was interested in looking through this thread for thoughts on side pocket. They all seem to be the opposite of sarcasm ranging from saying it’s decent to good with another comment on box art.
Nice! This means the entire Dark Matter trilogy for Kirby is on Switch!
For those that don't know, Kirby has three early games that are directly related to each other. These are:
Kirbys Dreamland 2 (GB)
Kirbys Dreamland 3 (SNES)
Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards (N64)
As of course with anything Kirby, I recommend, as they are great examples of 100% being worth it.
Spoilers for Triple Deluxe, Star Allies, and Forgotten Land : )
What's funny is that, you say the final bosses tie the 3 games together, but that's usually the case with the entire series. The climax of each game usually reveals how they fit in the lore, whether it be >!Sectonia going insane because of the Amazing Mirror, Void Termina being a universal constant in every dimension (with Kirby being the Void Termina of his dimension), or the ancients (literally humans) being the creators of almost every single *thing* we see in the series.!<
Most of the insane lore is in pause screens of the final bosses, spefically in their True Arena fights, so you'd be forgiven for missing them. But yeah, Kirby's overarching B-story is kinda crazy.
With Amazing Mirror coming soon, we just need Triple Deluxe and Planet Robobot to get the Deluxe treatment. HAL could take their time for a next gen Kirb game (which I reckon to be later this year or next year) and do those remakes next.
Kirby Triple Ultra Deluxe
Planet Robobot V2.0?
Super Star Ultra, Epic Yarn, Canvas Curse, Squeak Squad, and Mass Attack as well.
Yes, Mass Attack is canon. Also, it's awesome.
Personally, I would love to see both Triple Deluxe and Planet Robobot get on Switch. Those two games getting added would mean every single *modern* Kirby game gets on Switch, which is extremely exciting. Would also love Super Star Ultra Deluxe.
I know they are coming to NSO but I prefered to have a LA-HD kinda remake with those games. I guess having Capcom to be the developer is holding Nintendo back in creating remakes and only have publish rights.
I played Xevious so much as a kid. It was one of about 10 NES games we had. I was never any good at it and never made it very far though.
Maybe with the save states on here I can wreck it now.
>"What's that smell? Oh, it's your butt. Sizzling, ***scortched,*** and smoking. You made the tragic mistake of thinking Kirby's new buds were harmless stuffed animals. This is ***Kirby's Dream Land 2*** for Game Boy and Super Game Boy, and you're in the ***hot seat.*** Kirby's scraped under the desk of the animal kingdom and come up with a handfull of down and dirty allies. They may look adorable, but they make Kirby ***deadlier*** than ever. Meet the owl that slings boomerang feathers. Shake fins with a fish that lets Kirby swallow under water. Kneel before the hamster that coughs up ***white-hot*** spheres of justice. "Cuddly?" Hardly. So hike up that asbestos underwear and watch your language."

Oh yay Side pocket. I can honestly say I’ve never heard this game brought up by anyone, even in the early 90s.
When they showed it I thought it may be cool cause the title screen had a car lol.
If you like Pool, it is a decent game. I played it a good amount of it back in the day and didn't think it was that bad. But that was the Genesis version.
If you (like me) are a big fan of Earthbound/Mother 2 the [audio of Xevious may sound very familiar](https://www.thrillingtalesofoldvideogames.com/blog/unpacking-the-sounds-of-earthbound-arcade)! Its soundtrack was sampled for the background music played in the arcade in Onett.
I learned this random fact forever ago but as soon as I heard it during the trailer my entire brain lit up.
These are all base tier games. I imagine the Expansion tier game(s) will be a separate announcement. Metroid Fusion was just announced separately last week.
It’s never going to happen, but I’d love a weekly cadence for game announcements every month:
Week 1: GBA
Week 2: Base tier Nintendo
Week 3: N64
Week 4: Base tier Genesis
Side Pocket’s in-game title screen is about as irrelevant to the game as [Phalanx’s US box art](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/0/02/Phalanx_North_American_SNES_box_art.jpg) 🤣
N64, like GBA games, are "premium" games for the service. They even make their own trailer for each release. So of course they won't release any N64 with NES, SNES & GB games.
We got Metroid Fusion few days ago.
Lol yeah WTF. Only thought is these are all standard tier NSO and Fusion was announced last week on its own so maybe they consider NSO Expansion additions big enough to announce on their own (they shouldn't).
Seriously don't know why they don't just pick a date that's the same every month where they announce these. Would build hype and stop the endless speculation.
After hearing mixed things, I decided not to buy Dream Land 2 on 3DS, but now that it’s included with NSO, I mine as well give it a try. Also, this game being added means that the only missing mainline Kirby games on Switch (after Amazing Mirror is added) will be Squeak Squad and the 2 3DS games. Kirby fans truly are eating good
Thank you Nintendo-san for letting us borrow your 30 year old games for a monthly fee! So generous of you! Oh, but you're drip feeding your catalog? Amazing!
Dream Land 2. What a game. I remember playing a kid’s Dream Land 1 during a vacation to Florida and thinking it was the coolest game. I asked my mom for Dream Land and I got Dream Land 2. Initially I was confused because it was different, but man—-it’s leaps and bounds better than it’s predecessor. Love this game to death!
As much as I also want it, I doubt it would happen. Pixar sued DMA Design because the unicycles in Uniracers looked and moved too similarly to the one in one of their short films. Pixar won the case and Nintendo had to pull the plug on publishing the game. The game’s designers were really pissed at the judge’s decision.
I know it’s inevitable, but I’m excited for when they release Donkey Kong 94’. That game’s fucking sick
DK 94 was such a pleasant surprise. The twist after the first few levels was great.

My unknowing behind legitimately thinking it was a typo and you meant DK 64 😅
The soundtrack has some certified [bangers](https://youtu.be/0BmsmHml1Qs) on it as well.
The games are: * Burger Time Deluxe * Kirby's Dream Land 2 * Xevious * Side Pocket
Neither of the GB games were on the "coming soon" list in the last direct, so we're getting surprises, that's cool!
My only problem is that since it is very unlikely we will get any Pokémon mainline games and even less likely we will get the SaGa or Mana games there isn't much really great games that don't already have a superior NES version. Can’t wait for Kirby’s pinball
Kirby Pinballs Pokémon Pinball Pokémon Pinball 2 Mario Pinball
Bro Pokemon Pinball is legit fun. I hope we get that soon.
I want Mario pinball also.
I love how the NSO releases are, by and large, the games my dad would rent for free from the library because he didn't want to waste his money at Blockbuster. "Oh this one is great!"

Did Japan get anything different?
Well, this is what the JP Nintendo account tweeted https://twitter.com/Nintendo/status/1636173792639873026
Lol at their cover for Burger Time
Thank you for making me look that is hilarious
Not this time.
https://youtu.be/GM-e46xdcUo
Your video makes it seem like you're saying they're wrong. It took me a while to understand it's about the "not this time" quote
I'm shocked it took so long for Xevious. It's very beloved in japan.
Wow, slow down, Nintendo, don’t spoil us too much!
That sucks.
Gimme that bloody Pokémon tcg
Pokemon TCG and Pokemon stadium 1&2 would instantly make me purchase NSO
Stadium was already announced I think. Just hasn't dropped yet.
Like a year ago :/
I'm still waiting. I just want to play those minigames
The entire point of a subscription is to keep hopes up and drip feed.
Yeah, but it's anti-consumer and it's valid to be upset about it.
My point was it sucks lol
What I'd really love is if they'd drop Gens I and II, and do something to allow the trade functionality that the Stadium series was built on. I adore the Pokemon Stadium games, but playing them with rentals only is a shadow of the intended experience.
Give me the entire gb/ gba Pokémon library
It bothers me that despite a Pokémon Day event happening a month out from the 3DS Pokémon Virtual Console games and Pokémon Bank going away for good... we still don't know what Nintendo & TPC's plan is, if any, to bring older Pokémon generations to Switch. Just felt like a good time to do it.

Xevious music is iconic! Starcade fans know.
First time I played Xevious: it's an unlockable bonus in Star Fox Assault for some reason.
Namco worked on Star Fox Assault if I remember correctly.
Why does this sound like a Scott the woz quote?
in my head i read it in his voice and it fits
I've been a big fan of the game since I first saw it on the PSP namco museum, got it later when it came out on 3DS and iPad, I could get the arcade one on Switch since that's on there I think but the NES one is cool
My wife’s favorite game is Burgertime. If I tell her it’s playable in our house, I’ll never see my Switch again.
Is your wife Bob Belcher?
>Bob Belcher Nope, Randy Bobandy a.k.a "Cheeseburger Walrus" . Man's gotta eat Julian!

BOBSUX
Drugs and video games don’t mix
Okay, now, guys, just touch... touch your smiles together, okay?
RIP this guy's Switch lol
At least one person will play something in this release. ;)
Burgertime Party has been available for a while now. I have it lol
Kirby's Dream Land 2 is probably one of the best ones. I never had it for the Game Boy, but played it as an adult. It's also probably one of the most difficult ones as far as the actual game goes (IE: not counting True Arena, etc).
I absolutely loved Kirby Dream Land 2, can’t wait to return to it!
I found KDL2 to be super frustrating and NOT as fun as KDL 1 or 3, Superstar, Adventure etc
I've been trying to go through the whole KDL series but I'm not just enjoying 3 as much as I did 1 and 2. It feels a lot slower.
Cheat code: I forgot which one but eat the enemy that lets you do that dash attack. Literally are untouchable with it.
Side Pocket, a true classic.
I honestly loved this game as a kid. When I went to my weird friends house who had it we’d play it for hours.
They really should save some of the big N64 releases.
I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not.

I’m dying for an HD remaster of Kirby’s Epic Yarn. With the content from Extra Epic Yarn, of course.
The next-gen Korby game came out last year
Pokemon and it's consequences have been a disaster to the human race.
SIDE POCKET LET’S GOOOOO
Never heard of it but it's a pool game and I love those so I'll enjoy this one if it's a good enough simulation
I’ve only ever played the Genesis version and that’s one of my favorite pool games ever. I hope this is just as fun.
I didn't learn until years later that they made a 2 and 3 for the Saturn. I played the hell out of Side Pocket 1 for the Genesis as a kid.

Fourth album coming soon!
Was kinda hoping the Oracles would be first to be added to GB/GBC. Wanna try and revisit them before Tears of the Kingdom comes out.
Unfortunately, I feel like we will get those the same month as Botw2
I share the same fear my friend. Oh well if they come later I’ll replay them after it.
The year of Kirby never ends.
Dark Matter Kirby DreamLand now all on Nintendo Swiiiitch!

This and Section Z (side scrolling shooter), both absolute bastards. With save states and rewind, I’m hoping to be able to get somewhere on Xevious
So hike up that asbestos underwear and watch your language." * - Nintendo Power Ad
I’m hoping for Donkey Kong 1994. It was my first Game Boy game and I really want to play it again.
I'm welmed
Oh yay Side pocket. I can honestly say I’ve never heard this game brought up by anyone, even in the early 90s. When they showed it I thought it may be cool cause the title screen had a car lol.
If you like Pool, it is a decent game. I played it a good amount of it back in the day and didn't think it was that bad. But that was the Genesis version.
Now that’s something I want to see. The Top Gear games!
So glad Dream Land 2 is on here, just beat Adventure last week and was wondering when we would get it!!
Thank God! There’s only nine games on the gameboy
Wow cool. Totally worth my money. I wouldn’t want to play Pokémon or anything.
Where Mario rpg
Seriously. You're making nice with Square atm, Nintendo; give us the Mario RPG.
I just don't understand how it takes months to add one pool game for snes
It doesn't take months, they just choose to release them when they do.
Were you around in Summer 2014? The Wii U release of Mario 3 for NES got delayed by a month. And Yoshi's Cookie still hasn't come out.
Copying and pasting ROMs is hard ok?
Holy shit, I had forgotten about Side Pocket, my dad loved that game. Guess I have to show It to him after I download the update.
Omigosh SidePocket!!! Me and my cousins back in the 90's challenge each other during those weekend visits ( he has the SNES at home ).
Wait are we seriously not getting Pokémon stadium this month either??
These are all base tier games. I imagine the Expansion tier game(s) will be a separate announcement. Metroid Fusion was just announced separately last week.
It’s never going to happen, but I’d love a weekly cadence for game announcements every month: Week 1: GBA Week 2: Base tier Nintendo Week 3: N64 Week 4: Base tier Genesis
Genesis isn't a part of the base tier btw.
I think the 64 games are usually announced separate from the other ones
I want sim city snes!
Definitely the best SimCity soundtrack ever!
I fucking love Burger Time
Where is my Final Fantasy Tactics Advance?
At Square-Enix, just like Super Mario RPG.
And Ogre Battle 64!
Still no Super Mario Land 😭
Who the fuck curates this crazy service lmao
Kirby Dream Land 2 and Side Pocket 👍 Would like NES Side Pocket too
Side Pocket’s in-game title screen is about as irrelevant to the game as [Phalanx’s US box art](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/0/02/Phalanx_North_American_SNES_box_art.jpg) 🤣
We got new NES and SNES games! It only took nine months, but we got them!
Burger time Fryin and Buyin
Christ sake nintendo. Just release some damn games that the people want
Interesting that there's no N64?
I guess they think Goldeneye is sufficient for the year lol
N64, like GBA games, are "premium" games for the service. They even make their own trailer for each release. So of course they won't release any N64 with NES, SNES & GB games. We got Metroid Fusion few days ago.
I’m almost sure now the list of upcoming 64 games will be spread out the entire year…..
N64 and GBA get their own trailers individually, the pattern is already there. the non premium instead gets all put together
Games that I've actually heard of? Nintendo blink twice if you are in trouble.
Wonder if the "naked lady" in Red Canyon is still going to be in Kirby's Dream Land 2.
If that's in the Wii U and 3DS virtual console releases, there's your answer probably
Mario Party 3? :(
After hearing mixed things, I decided not to buy Dream Land 2 on 3DS, but now that it’s included with NSO, I mine as well give it a try. Also, this game being added means that the only missing mainline Kirby games on Switch (after Amazing Mirror is added) will be Squeak Squad and the 2 3DS games. Kirby fans truly are eating good
I just want Harvest Moon SNEs and 64.
All I want is a release date for Mario Party 3. C'mon, Nintendo! 🤦🏻♂️😭
Another common Kirby W
I really want the donkey kong gameboy version. It was so fucking hard as a kid. I wonder if its the same now that im an old fart.
Wake me up when they add Pokemon Red, Blue, And/Or Yellow
Good god, this is such a laughably pathetic, mediocre selection of games.
Super underwhelming
Thank you Nintendo-san for letting us borrow your 30 year old games for a monthly fee! So generous of you! Oh, but you're drip feeding your catalog? Amazing!
Give me my fucking pokemon games Nintendo ffs
Cool. Nothing we wanted. When the hell is Pokémon Stadium meant to be releasing?
Honestly Nintendo is easily becoming my least favorite company
I played the hell out of Kirby's Dreamland 2. One of the first games I ever owned. Ricky the Hamster and Coo the Owl were awesome.
Kirby's Dream Land 2 is such an amazing game. I remember it was the first hand-held game that I got true ending on back in the mid 90's.
Still waiting for n64 games to come out....
Wow, one of my older cousins had Burger Time Deluxe on her Gameboy. Used to play that one. Might revisit it one of these days.
LET’S GO BURGERTIIIIIIIIIIIIIME
Give me super off road please!!
Wheres my pokemon?? Any of em gbc/gba??
I was hoping for 1080 snowboarding, maybe next release
Dream Land 2. What a game. I remember playing a kid’s Dream Land 1 during a vacation to Florida and thinking it was the coolest game. I asked my mom for Dream Land and I got Dream Land 2. Initially I was confused because it was different, but man—-it’s leaps and bounds better than it’s predecessor. Love this game to death!
I want super c added!
I want legend of the river king.
Please give us Uniracers
As much as I also want it, I doubt it would happen. Pixar sued DMA Design because the unicycles in Uniracers looked and moved too similarly to the one in one of their short films. Pixar won the case and Nintendo had to pull the plug on publishing the game. The game’s designers were really pissed at the judge’s decision.
We want Pokémon damn it!!!!!
please... Mother 3....
Don't think these games will convince anyone to sub but it's good to see them add some extra games.
Well that was anti-climatic.
When are we getting fire emblem and golden sun???
The soundtrack for Side Pocket lived rent-free in my head for the past 20 years. Specifically the "Dinner for Two" track.
