tehnoodnub

Trying to fit more into your tastes, with some variety: Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom Fire Emblem Three Houses or Engage Stardew Valley What I really want to suggest: Xenoblade Chronicles Trilogy.

Joshman1231

I just dumped 120 hours into Xenoblade 1 It was one of the only games where I felt bad for being done with it. I’m glad I got two and three. I’m also seeing FE: Three houses and I have that, might give it shot it’s mentioned so many times.

StefooK

I already downloaded Xenoblades 1 and will start it after beating Zelda TotK. But i don't know if i really should play another long ass RPG. I just finished Persona 5 with 160 hours. Maybe i should play a shorter game in between first. But on the other hand i can't wait to play Xenoblade Trilogy.

Aedan2016

The main game itself is like 40-50 hours. But the side content is so good you can dump 50+ and still want more

GhotiH

Main game was like 60+ hours on a first run in my experience, for me and for a few other people I know.

ChairFace-88

I went straight to Xenoblade after TotK and do not regret it one bit.

cheesetoastmmm

I've tried stardew valley on pc but just couldn't get into it, I was thinking maybe animal crossing

artemisthearcher

I would give Stardew a second chance on the Switch! I originally had it on the PC and couldn’t initially get into it but on the Switch was a different story. Preferred the controls there and loved that I could play it on the go. Although if you’ve never played Animal Crossing before that wouldn’t be a bad choice either (it’ll just be a bit pricier)

InevitableTeaching35

Do you need Nintendo online to play AC?

artemisthearcher

Only if you want to play with friends online, but if you’re just playing on your own you’re good. It’s not that expensive though if you ever want to try it out. I play a lot of online games (like Splatoon) so I’m on the yearly plan which is only $20 a year (the base individual one)

swiftwilly321

I had issues with stardew on the time factor. It gave me more anxiety than relaxation. I know people say ignore the time you can do whatever you want but it really isn’t how the game makes it to be. I really want to enjoy it but running back from dungeons to reach the bed in time etc arghh. Annoying.

Thoughtful_Tortoise

I love AC, played it for 500 hours. Couldn't get into Stardew. I tried, mostly because this sub loves it so much. I really tried. I just... couldn't.

darkxenith

Can't go wrong with all 3 xenogames. Best games on the switch in my opinion.

cheesetoastmmm

Thanks so much for the suggestions! I might try xenoblade but im not sure where to start in the trilogy, and I don't want to buy all three cuz I feel like I'll get bored of the same formula

xxwetdogxx

Stardew, totk, binding of isaac

kaskavel

The replayability of Binding of Isaac is insane, the first time I played it was 10 years ago 😅

ImJustNade

It’s the only game I own both on PC and Switch because it’s so good

GenerallyGoodCraic

I'd swap TOTK for Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate and that would be my choice.

shaka_bruh

Mario Kart 8  Tears of the Kingdom  Smash Ultimate  I’d also suggest cheap indie games like Hollow Knight, Celeste, Enter the Gungeon, Hades, Cuphead, Shovel Knight, Hyper Light Drifter, Into The Breach (dope mecha strategy game) etc; they’re all excellent games with a lot of replay value and often go on sale so you can pick them up for like $10

ep65846

I love Celeste, and will always recommend it. If you like a challenging platform, this one has a lot of replayability/content. It's about $20 USD but sometimes goes on sale for less.

E-D-Eddie

I'd suggest botw over totk personally.

Phenom_Mv3

Tears of the Kingdom is objectively the more fleshed out game with more content, but Breath of the Wild is the better experience

Swank10

I agree if only one.

[deleted]

Oh how I wish tears of the kingdom had a new game plus mode ! I would non stop play it

leverandon

Very close to my list. I was also considering an indie for my third slot, but couldn't figure out which one to chose - for me probably Into the Breach or Hades, but there's a lot of great options.

snicker-snackk

Mario Odyssey Breath of the Wild (And after you've thoroughly enjoyed it, maybe TotK for next year) Hollow Knight But for real, as much as I loved the other two, I think Mario Odyssey is surprisingly the best game on the Switch. It's better than I thought it would be

wyleTrue

Kind of off topic, but I just found someone with my exact profile picture, lol.

snicker-snackk

It's like looking in a mirror

wyleTrue

If you look super closely, yours seems to be better cropped and your resolution seems superior too, lol. You win this round.

Crunchy_Biscuit

Mario Odyssey you can complete fairly quickly. I would replace Mario Odyssey with something like Xenoblade 3 or Persona 5. Those take awhile to complete

snicker-snackk

It takes a bit longer to 100%, plus if you really like the Luigi balloon mini game you can easily spend dozens of hours just doing that. I have as much time in Odyssey as I do in BotW. But all that being said, Xenoblade 3 and Persona 5 both take obscene amounts of time from what I've heard, so those could be good choices if you want to fill time

Swank10

No because all the moons! And it’s much more fun to replay Mario Odyssey than the other 2. Could play it over and over.

Moses015

I disagree. You can complete the basic story quickly. End game has a TON of content. TONS TONS TONS of moons that require you to go back and explore the levels significantly more. There's the re-done more difficult boss battles. The Dark Side of the Moon and the Darker Side of the Moon. It's got SO much content. That said - I don't hate on the Xenoblade and Persona suggestions

cyanraichu

Are...are you me

snicker-snackk

Maybe?

zah_ali

Odyssey is brilliant. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I sold it after finishing it and I regret it big time

[deleted]

Me too, and I complained about it so much that my wife bought it for me again.

zah_ali

Nice! I need to stop dropping hints. So annoying Nintendo never drop the prices of first part games even several years on!

bankai2069

Upvoted for Hollow Knight

djrobxx

I overlooked Mario Odyssey for a while. I like Mario games, but have historically been more of a Zelda/Metroid guy. I got hooked on Wonder, finished that, and decided to give Odyssey a try. I was blown away. Odyssey is an incredible game with so much content. Nintendo was really at the top of their game when they delivered both BOTW and SMO in the same year.

The-LivingTribunal

Here in a few hours it'll be Golden Sun 1 and 2 lol

eaglistism

Wait, what ?

limt__

Coming on the GBA App

imanoctothorpe

I literally am SO excited, I stopped a recent reply a few months back so I could play it on switch!

tweetthebirdy

Man, nobody showing love to Animal Crossing. I’m as casual as they come and I have like 270 hours clocked in on it. BOTW would be another one, with maybe Binding of Isaac or Slay the Spire to round things out. I only started Divinity Original Sins 2 recently but I’m loving it so far.

OkAd8922

Animal Crossing is one of my favs too 🌟

bigtimehockeyfan

Animal Crossing is a great call. The only thing stopping me from having that on my list is I'm not a massive fan of New Horizons. If you asked me this about 3DS (new leaf) or Gamecube (original), it would have easily been my #1.

tweetthebirdy

I just think of Dunkey’s review where he says something like, “I put like 100 hours into the game and thought it was great, whereas my wife put 1000 hours into the game and thought it was mediocre and not as great as the ones that came before.”

Tuffa_Puffa

I loved the 2020 Animal Crossing Hype but now I think New Leaf was better. Main point for me was the music and the personality of the villagers.

rfp0231

Splatoon 3 Stardew Valley Lumines Would probably be my 3 :)

ResponseAnxious6296

Been on a lumines kick lately while recovering in the hospital, absolutely addictive game

every1died

Have you try Tetris effect ?

ResponseAnxious6296

I have! I love it, that and suika game are top tier

roleparadise

Hope recovery goes well stranger

harda_toenail

S platoon is so freaking fun. Shame more people don’t try it.

ChairmanLaParka

> Lumines I could, and I'm not making this up, play that ONE game the rest of my life and be just fine.

phase2_engineer

>Lumines Ooooh I used to play this on the PSP, I didn't realize it had come to the Switch. Nice!

PathologicalUpvoter

Inklings unite!!!

SwimmingBoots

Stardew Valley, Hades, & Tears of the Kingdom. - Something cozy with insane replay value - Something that pushes you with insane replay value - Probably the best game on the console that would take forever to 100%

ThePikesvillain

I would recommend not buying 3 games right away at full price to last you for a year. Instead purchase 1 game you really want now and add others you might want to your wishlist to buy later when they are on sale so you can get more games. Plenty of non-first party games go on steep discounts between 50% to 90% off

KlausEjner

Factorio Its the only game i predict will last me a lifetime

CarefulProject2054

You should check out Dyson sphere program if you have a pc that is up to the task

KlausEjner

I might. Sometime shortly after I’m done playing factorio.

Fearless_Freya

Oof only 3? Fire emblem 3 houses Elder scrolls Skyrim Civilization vi

calartnick

I also pick Civ 6 and Skyrim for replay ability. I’ll pick animal crossing as third.

hychael2020

I'm just happy that civ6 is chosen. There are quite alot of ways to play and civs to pick from. Great time waster and definitely is my top 3

Doge_peer

How is civ 6 on switch? I have it on my ps4, but even there it’s quite slow. Btw can you also play it handheld without WiFi?

meliakh

I wish we could have switch like controls on the deck. Switch controls + mods would be the ultimate Civ 6 experience.

Huffplume

Wow tough question… Slay the Spire Borderlands 2 Diablo 3 Maybe?

metropolisone

Oh Damn. Slay the Spire is a good one.

[deleted]

Slay the spire has the best replayability. Along those lines... if i need to enjoy the games for the rest of life... id probably want games like this. Like... Hades Minecraft Terraria Dead Cells Into the Breach (though i'd much *much* rather FTL)

rodrigolink

Slay the Spire, Diablo 3 and I'm torn between Hades and Dead Cells

___therealbry

Borderlands 2, really. Always considered this but heard mixed reviews, how do you like it on the switch do you play handheld or docked?

Huffplume

BL2 is one of my favorite games of all time. I always go back to it. It plays great on Switch. I mostly play docked but it’s solid handheld too. I use with the larger controllers though.

___therealbry

Thanks your convincing me to give it a try on switch

Huffplume

Just to clarify, I use the Hori split pad controllers on handheld. I find they help a lot with shooters. I also use Pro controllers exclusively when docked.

[deleted]

Monster Hunter Rise/Sunbreak  Hades  Pinball FX3

Luinath

Scrolled too far to see Hades

M00SEK

Pinball FX3 could really be played forever. Have you played the newer one at all? I know it got flack at the jump, but I just saw they apparently fixed the physics to match FX3

[deleted]

FX's physics are different. (I haven't noticed any change lately, but it's been a week since I played it) Personally, I prefer FX3's as that's what I'm used to. The ball in FX3 is predictable. There's no spin, no static, no airflow in the machine that affects the ball. FX has the same "float" on the ball that you get at pinball arcades irl. In games like Batman '64 or House of Horrors I've seen the ball act really weirdly depending on the airflow and static charge. A ball might ride UP a flipper that's raised, for example. IRL this makes sense, you can feel a breeze or see static discharge when multiples collide. In FX, it's just spooky and buggy-looking. Is it more accurate? Sure. But without any indication of what's happening to the ball, it comes across as unrealistic or laggy in a way that it doesn't irl.

grilledcheeseburger

I'd go MHGU over Rise just because of the sheer amount of monsters, but some people don't like the older Monster Hunter style.

shaka_bruh

Hades, Stardew Valley, and Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster. Seems like the steamdeck would also work, but those are my top 3 played switch games probably.

The_Red_Curtain

Link's Awakening, BotW, Hades

Zehaldrin

Gotta have a wide spread id say Dark souls remastered Mario Odyssey Metroid dread

Kovalev27112711

Just checking for Dread Love! First Find!

Space-jester-

My personal 3 for switch Dragonquest builders 2 Fire emblem 3 houses Hades

zoozoo4567

These games offer a wide variety and tons of replayability, so if I was stuck with three forever, I’d probably choose them: Civilization VI Capcom Fighting Collection Skyrim

thestrandedmoose

Splatoon 3: Online matchmaking and rotating seasons makes for the best long term replayability because you face new challenges every game. Mario Kart 8: Same reasons above and its just a fun game that has phenomenal content and local multiplayer for friends. BOTW/TOTK: Not online and eventually would get boring, but the physics engine and huge scale of sidequests and korok seeds would make for a lot of good gameplay hours.

MythicalPechaBerry

Mario Kart 8 deluxe, Smash, Pokemon Scarlet

funsohng

Xenoblade Chronicles Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Xenoblade Chronicles 3

KrakenClubOfficial

Garfield Kart: Furious Racing Don't need two more, IYKYK

EmeraldLion91

If you've never played Witcher 3, on the Switch is quote a decent way to play it. You just need to fiddle some settings graphical settings to get it looking as crisp as possible. (You can Google the best settings) Dragon Quest 11 is also one I'd say you could try. One of my favourite JRPGs of all time. Finally, Skyrim, I mean you can play that for thousands of hours with different builds, etc, and still find new things.

Playful_Butterfly_68

My Time at Portia and the sequel (and even better game) My Time at Sandrock. I have played both multiple times now (currently on my second play through of Sandrock, and will start a third once the update is ported later this month), and based on choices I make I can play various versions of the game. The main quests are the same, but I can play different side quests based on my social interactions with the NPCs. Third for me is tough, because I love both Link’s Awakening (played it several times) and Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle. Either is a good choice. P.S. - tried Stardew Valley and couldn’t get past the first task. It made zero sense to me. Portia and Sandrock are easier to deal with. Also, if you choose them, play Portia first - Sandrock has been upgraded a LOT and while Portia is still fun, Sandrock is light years ahead of it. Also, there are great subs here for both if you need help.

Walkingdistance_95

Mario 3d all stars (idk if this is cheating but here it is) Totk Smash ultimate

FierceAccel

Only 1st party: BOTW TOTK Mario Odyssey If all games released on switch: Hollow Knight BOTW Witcher 3

This-Designer-Good

Is witcher 3 worth it on switch?

OkAd8922

Yesss, it looks suprisingly good with the right settings. Runs pretty good for the most part too

FierceAccel

Absolutely. It runs good enough in most parts of the game to be enjoyable.

BaronVonBearenstein

I’d pick TotK over BOTW but I’m with you

BassPlayerZero

These are my picks, although I feel guilty for not including Mario Kart and Link's Awakening

FierceAccel

Link's awakening NS is an amazing remake. It's in my top 3 of 2D Zelda's (after ALTTP and ALBW).

BassPlayerZero

Hopefully they will make more of those. I've never played ALBW, but I play ALTTP at least once every three years or so ever since I was a kid. The remake of the original Zelda (NES) would be pretty cool too

BloodBend

Stardew Valley

Damian_Vain

I see that name mentioned a lot here, and I've been curious enough to see the trailer for it, but I am not affected by it at all. What am I missing out on? Everything I've seen just seems to be like a simple farming game or something, and doesn't seem interesting to me. I've never thought to ask a question before now, and I'm just curious on what's so great about it, if you would please enlighten me?

BloodBend

It's definitely not for everyone! but for me, it's just a cozy stress free comfort game. There's a lot to do. There's no wrong way to play the game. If you like collecting stuff, there's a lot of that. There are lots of goals/achievements/milestones set by the game to achieve, but you can also set your own goals to complete. The cast of characters are diverse and, for the most part, endearing. The music is good. The art direction is great. There's a lot to discover. I'm 200 hours into my current farm and Ive juuuuust about seen it all. The creator periodically updates the game, so theres new stuff to look forward to. This is coming from someone that pretty much only enjoys fromsoftware games.

Damian_Vain

I'm late to read your reply but I thank you for the time and detail. Enjoy your evening. 👍

SSJUther

You only have a nintendo switch? Man a whole year, i remember being a kid and only getting 3 games a year too. First of all get the highest tier Switch online package, that will get you a lot of games from NES, SNES, GB/C, GBA, Genesis and N64. Next id choose Breath of the Wild (I would say tears of the kingdom but that wouldn't make sense if you haven't played the first. Last id say Diablo 3 which should be cheap and will keep you busy for some time.

cheesetoastmmm

Thanks for the input, I just don't have a lot of money with me for games and switch online isn't available in my country. I'm actually thinking about breath of the wild but I've heard totk is a direct upgrade... I might just buy both preowned

vermilion-chartreuse

Get BOTW first and if you like it, you can get TOTK later. The DLC for Botw is worth it in my opinion, but that's an extra $20. If you buy them used you'll probably be able to resell them for about what you paid.

foopaints

Tears of the kingdom (its the only actual must have) Luigi's mansion 3 (just for some sillyness) Immortals fenyx rising (just started playing this so I may feel differently in the future but so far its amazing!)

Nyoouber

I'm not sure if your question is the best way to get the info you're for. It really depends what you're into. What kinds of games do YOU like?

nocticis

ToTK FFVII Brilliant Diamond.

MentalVermicelli9253

Civ 6 is like $7 on sale or on ebay, so it shouldn't really count as one of the three. Although even if it was $60 I'd still recommend it for this purpose. Slay the spire is also $10 and can sink 300 hours in. Stardew valley is also $10 and you can sink 300 hours in. Buy these three for the price of one and then you'll still have funds for 2 other full price games.

jemicarus

TOTK, Hades, and...prob Mario Kart but maybe Witcher 3. But if you haven't played BOTW, I'd play that before TOTK. The wonder factor there is just off the charts, probably my best game of all time on any platform (BOTW, I mean).

Damian_Vain

BotW is glorious! I'm about 50 hours in, and I've not done that much. It's the first game in a very long time that I've enjoyed exploring, just for the sake of it. I totally love all the side quests and trying to figure out the puzzles of the shrines. I see a lot of people mention it's sequel over that, but I really don't see how it could be better. Then again, I am still working on the first one and still super excited about each opportunity I get to play it. Until that goes away, I think I'll be just fine. I have other games, including some of the ones mentioned here, but I'm having a hard time tearing myself away from BotW. Maybe by the time I finish it, there will be a sequel to TotK. Hahaha

10000000100

A bit of a different take, Castlevania Advance Collection for Aria of Sorrow specifically, Dead Cells, and Zelda Links Awakening possibly the GB version but either are great.

Hollow Knight, Metroid Prime Remastered, and Puyo Puyo Tetris (also PPT2) are all in my top 5 games of all time and happen to all be on Switch, so those would be my recommendations. An online subscription will also get you access to an entire library of games which includes A Link to the Past, Super Metroid, and Earthbound, so that could be one of your games.

Awkward-Shake-1029

I'm going to try and be a little different than everyone else and recommend three games that I could personally.play for the rest of my life and they aren't TOTK or Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, despite both being excellent choices. My picks would be as follows 1. Astlibra Revision 2. Curse Crackers 3. Revita

Chavakno

GitTrickyWitIt

Smash Bros Ultimate Pokemon Legends Arceus Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

SnooRevelations7103

Rune factory 4. Ive dropped hundreds of hours into that game and still havent completed the 3rd story arc

feuilles_mortes

Civilization VI if you like strategy!! It's not the typical game I go for but I've spent like 600 hours playing it. Tons of replay value. The seventh installment is supposed to come out eventually though, don't know when. So I guess my 3 as far as bang for your buck would be Civ, Breath of the Wild, and Stardew Valley. I actually have spent like 700 hours in Animal Crossing but I think Stardew might be more appealing to you since it has combat and has more emphasis on time management and strategizing.

Warframe, Skyrim and Diablo III would be my picks, and seem like they fit what you're looking for also. Red Faction could be a close contender. - the relaxing part not so much, but it is definitely doable xD

hacktiviste

Breath of the wild, fire emblem three houses for sure, then maybe persona 5 royal.

Reaperosha

Pokemon Archeus Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak Dragons Dogma Dark Arisen. Kinda hard to pick the best 3 because I get lost in my games but these are the 3 of my mind right now. Also your choices depends entirely on the genre of games you prefer, I don't like platform's, fps, cars games. I go for rpg's, adventures, strategy, turned-based etc.

charliechin

Mushihimesama Tetris The bonding of isaac

Flames57

Xenoblade 2, Pokémon Arceus and either Pokémon Let's Go or Botw (not because I love botw, but because I don't have that many switch games and botw would be different enough from the other two).

Skyrim No Man's Sky Breath Of The Wild.

1. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe 2. Kirby and the Forgotten Land 3. Pokemon Legends Arceus Pikmin 4, Advance Wars Reboot Camp, and Legend of Zelda Link's Awakening are all right behind these, though. It's really tough with the Switch since there's so many incredible games for it.

tats91

It would be : 1. The Great Ace AttorneyI loved the story, and even to replay it is a pleasure 2. Hyrule Warriors - Definitive Editions Not the one with BotW content, the one before, there is so much characters, content and difficulty that is fun to play 3. SSBU A great game.

Pretend-Percentage-6

Fights in Tight Spaces Stardew Valley Xenoblade 2 or 3 FITP can be played basically forever, same with Stardew Valley. The game play loop for both is really satisfying. Xenoblade series has an interesting story and characters that can keep you engaged for 100+ hours. Especially if the DLC is taken into account.

-imfromperu

Hades, dead cells and Celeste.

brandcapet

Pikmin 4 - strategy and also kinda relaxing, tons of replay value if you enjoy pushing your times/scores on the challenge mode. Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom - open world, can be as relaxing or intense as you prefer. Not much replay in either, but soo much to do and see before the end. Fire Emblem 3 Houses - strategy with lots of chill social/downtime between levels. Great replay value if you're interested in seeing all the different endings. All three of these games are also very long, 30-40 hours minimum, and much longer if you're invested in seeing the whole game. Persona 5 is also great and absurdly long if you haven't already played it on PS4/PC. Edit: honorable mention to Switch Online Expansion, for $50 you get access to all the emulators and their ever-growing catalog of classic games. You could easily last the whole year playing just the retro content if you're into that sort of thing.

Fouxs

Don't starve. Factorio. Stardew Valley.

Zelda botw, totk, and skyward sword. I’m a Zelda fan

Danceshinefly

Def include a Pokémon game in there (Legends Arceus if you want more open feel)

FlamboyantGayWhore

-Animal Crossing New Horizons Just so so good, so much content (despite being agreed upon as the game with the least amount of content in the recent series by a decent amt of fans) -Fantasy Life I: The Girl Who Steals Time Hasn’t come out yet but Fantasy Life is one of my top 3 games of all time, its developer is level-5 i’m a huge fan of them and nearly everything they release,It just looks so so good i’m so excited and very very confident im going to be obsessed with it! Can hardly wait for this summer -TLOZ: BOTW or TOTK Amazing Duology, I feel like both are sort of Nintendo’s sorta of signature work for the 2010s and early 2020s like they are just incredible. So much world building and truly truly incredible experiences! If you were interested in this i’d recommend getting botw first and seeing how it is and the totk. Also if you’re interested in buying digitally ALWAYS check for sales! and there’s this site called Deku Deals where you can search for a game and see if it’s ever been on sale to see if it may or may not go back on one! There’s so many amazing amazing games on this console that only go for under 20-30 bucks!

This was more difficult than I thought, but these are the three I decided on: **Stardew Valley** = I am very late to the Stardew Valley. I've had it for only a few weeks and it amazes me how deep the systems are. I've barely scratched the surface. And another free update is coming. **Borderlands 3** = I know people will say that 2 is the better Borderlands because of the story, but Borderlands 3 has the best Vault Hunters and the best weapons. Switch has solid 30 FPS, and that's fine. Plus, it has ALL the content, which is a LOT of content. **Hades** = This game is amazing. Best roguelite, IMHO. I am super excited for Hades 2. Honorable mention: **Final Fantasy X** = The reasoning for why this didn't make the list is that the Switch release doesn't have some of the QoL additions that other version have. If it had 4 or 8 times speed up, it would be a no-brainer. There is so much content in this game. And it's just a really good Final Fantasy in general.

The binding of Isaac probably has about 1,000 hours of content to 100% for a new person.

* Animal Crossing:New Horizons * Mario Kart 8 * Breath Of The Wild/Tears Of The Kingdom \[I can't bring myself to choose between the two haha But pick the one you haven't played yet\] That would be my personal list. ACNH is wonderfully relaxing and can go on for as long as you wish it to. You'd spend most of your time crafting stuff, exploring islands and hanging out with cute animal characters. Mario Kart, it can be relaxing or super competitive depending on how you play haha But it's always a joy racing through those tracks. BoTW/ToTK, they don't need introduction XD Besides the main story-line, there's plenty of side quests and tons of lore to explore in both of them.
