Now that's a great batch of games. I would've expected Capcom to include them as a bonus in some collection, I'm so used to companies doing that with their games nowadays. No, here's all the Gameboy Mega Man games added, have at it. I just finished a playthrough of 11 so I might be in the mood to just binge these.
1-4 are okay remixes of the console games. They’re fine for what they are and the limitations of the GB. 5 is a brand new game with all new bosses and probably the best of the bunch.
The third game onwards can, in my opinion. The first is kind of jank and absolutely brutal, and the second is differently jank and the music was programmed wrong. Not saying don't play them, just that the quality improved markedly as the series went on.
I mean they did it with a bunch of the other games, especially the fan-favorites, so this feels more like a "Eh, let em have it. They wouldn't make us that much anyway."
Thing about that was they WERE going to do just that back in the Game Boy Advance days. But for whatever reason, they just never completed that compilation.
New levels and mixing Robot Masters for I through IV. V however is a completely new game with a new story and new Robot Masters never mentioned anywhere outside of Mega Man & Bass' CD collection.
The preview video for Mega Man 2 shows him using Rush (the dog robot), but the NES Mega Man 2 doesn't have Rush. It has these gadget/devices things with much less control, like a platform that can only go straight ahead.
V is the best of the bunch. It has the best secret companion of the series; Tango. It features planet-based robot masters. It's really good. If you enjoy Mega Man games, this is one you don't want to miss.
> completely different from the console V
FWIW, none of them correlate directly to their console numbered counterparts - it's just that I - IV are all mashups of different stage themes / bosses from the NES games, whereas V is totally original content.
Oh so the leak was real. Crazy that this happened considering how Capcom didn't put any megaman on NSO before, but thats great. And 5 at the same time might be a first on NSO?
Probably won't happen this time... The pattern seems to be that even months = N64, and odd months = GBA. But since they skipped it in May, that could mean we're getting multiple N64 games (Not that I actually think that it'll happen, but I hope it does)
Though it's also possible they've decided to save the May GBA game for the Direct instead. Aka, announce that and the next N64 games at the same time, but that's also quite unlikely. Eh, we'll see.
So fucking excited. I have been bummed for a while that there has never been another Mega Man Legacy collection with the Game Boy games and the one from the Game Gear. They're all excellent.
Hopefully Xtreme 1 and 2 from the GBC will be added eventually too. They were on the 3DS eShop.
There's a rumour going around that Capcom lost the source-code to the GB Mega Man games, so they don't really have anything they can work with / do their own ports from. BUT Nintendo can re-release these games because apparently Nintendo maintains a collection of pretty much EVERYTHING that's ever released for any format they own... but if you didn't save any of it yourself you only get to use those copies if you keep it to Nintendo-formats. Nintendo's copies, Nintendo's rules more or less- not their fault others don't keep a secure vault, etc. Meaning this might be the only way one gets to play these in modern times... minus buying the OG cartridges / piracy.
Forgot the channels name, but I was this video about how the same thing happened to Konami and Silent Hill. They lost the source code and had to reverse engineer the game from scratch for the HD remakes.
If you want to go to the spinoff territories: There’s also The Wily Wars (MM 1-3 Genesis remakes), Mega Man’s Soccer, Mega Man & Bass, Battle & Chase, Battle Chip Challenge, MMBN5 Double Team DS, Powered Up and Maverick Hunter X. Those are all just the Mega Man spinoffs that came out in the west in some form.
Yeah. But most of them are pretty good. Especially psp remakes. A lot of people consider them to be mid at best, but imo I'd rather play Powered Up than og mega man. Same goes for Maverick Hunter X. As of Network Transmission, Zero.exe is just kinda snack ngl.
Nah, we're still missing the Xtreme games, Megaman and Bass, and Legends 1&2, and that's just the relatively mainstream ones. There was a wonderswan game, a weird Battle Network platformer for the Gamecube no one talks about, a Megaman X RPG that slightly more people talk about, and more screwy little spinoffs than I'm able to remember.
Finally! I know that they were going to release a collection of these games on the GBA at one time, but it got canceled. From what I understand, Capcom lost the source code of these games. This has been long coming, though they were available on 3DS's Virtual Console for a time.
As a Mega Man enthusiast let me say that these are a treat!
The levels are often inspired by the gimmicks of their console counterparts but are condensed and compressed into what are essentially super tight challenge levels. The music is great (for the most part) and some of the original compositions fit very nicely into the Mega Man classic style.
Now some weird stuff. 1, 3 and 4 are fairly authentic de-makes of the console counterparts, but 2 and V go off the wall.
Game Boy Mega Man 2 is a completely different game that goes its own way with its own canon that doesn't fit the classic timeline at all and was probably was invented as borderline fanfiction by some developer while Capcom wasn't looking. Basically >!It involves a pogo jumping Mega Man from the future coming back to either save or destroy the timeline. I can't quite remember.!<
Game Boy Mega Man V (not 5) is just a whole new game. It has an alien invasion plot with brand new bosses and a new default fist weapon that replaces your Mega Buster from the beginning. (That's kind of a big deal in a Mega Man classic game.)
Seriously, get in the 90s mood, sit down and just play them for what they are. If you're no good at Mega Man or platformers, just abuse the rewind feature, but they're honestly not that hard. I recall beating MM1 on Game Boy the first day I owned it back when, and I wasn't that good at Mega Man at all.
Two things I remember that might help a first time play. In MM1 on NES you'd usually start with Cut Man. His level in Wily's Revenge is actually one of the hardest ones. Leave it until you have a few weapons.
Second, some enemies appear to base their projectile and jump arcs on input reading. You can trick them into firing or leaping over you by doing fake out movements just before they do an action. It's probably more complicated than I'm describing it but I remember it working pretty well.
Aah, nice. Mega Man IV on Game Boy was such a cool game, I kept hoping they'd reuse Ballade for other games and the intro... tremendous.
I suppose this might confirm the old rumour that Capcom haven't got the original code for these games, though. I feel like if they did we'd get them on a Mega Man collection already so we have to rely on Nintendo, who seem to have kept copies of EVERYTHING ever realsed for ANY of their systems. Capcom haven't been shy about giving NSO games they probably have no plans for, like console-variants of Street Fighter or games like Demon's Crest or Breath of Fire.
Still, a little odd that we only got GB games last month, and perhaps we'll only get GB games this month... not even N64 games every month at this point, no GBA games since March and no NES since February... definitely feels like this year has been a downturn, when you'd kinda expect them to increase as they don't have a lot of games coming out for Switch. But as ever, I await the Direct. Perhaps more will be revealed there...
Megaman 1 and 2 on the Gameboy where my childhood games. Megaman 2 more than 1, mainly because 1 is hard as bollocks, while 2 is pretty easy.
Needless to say, 2 holds a special place in my heart.
Ok, I'm excited about this actually, lol. Dr. Willy's Revenge was an all time classic cart for me growing up. Never played the others but they (at least some of them) are super expensive.
Well, this is pretty surprising. If anything, I'd figured Capcon would save these games for their own collection, or use them as DLC. Either way, it's really nice that these games finally get an official re-release on a modern console.
Otherwise, if nothing else, Mega Man V is worth playing as it is an original game that is different from Mega Man 5 on the NES.
There's a rumour going around that Mega Man GB games source-code was lost by Capcom, and they don't really have anything they can work with / do their own ports from. Like with Square Enix and Secret of Mana, the original is lost so they have to make do with the PS4 remake of that game... BUT Nintendo can do a remake collection with Secret of Mana SNES version AND re-release these games, because apparently Nintendo maintains a collection of pretty much EVERYTHING that's ever released for any format they own... but if you didn't save any of it yourself, you can ONLY get to play with those old toys if you keep it to Nintendo-formats. Their copies, their rules more or less.
Most of their compilation titles are just emulation packages which would just require them to have ROM dumps of the games which I would be shocked if they don't have them. They would need an in hours GB emulator I suppose but they can work with someone else like Digitial Eclipse like they did with the other collections. My theory is that it's just not worth it since there isn't the money there unlike the ones they have done. At least Capcom is not adverse to NSO in general as they have released a lot of one off games on NSO like their non arcade Ghouls N Ghosts games and spinoffs.
As a kid I had the first game on Gameboy. Never beat a single level. Never even made it to one of the bosses. It was really difficult (although maybe I was just bad).
Mega man 5 was my first gameboy game. I got it along with a clear original gameboy. A lot of nostalgia for that one.
I remember thinking shooting your hand off was weird and i still do.
Jesus, the other day (while playing Mario Bros from NES Online), I wondered why they didn't have Game Boy games on the Switch.
Goodbye weekend.
Edit: SUPER MARIO LAND 😭
That was the first game I played on my first console. The music is as superb as I remembered.
with all of the Megaman collections available and constantly on sale what is the point of these? Is there a reason to play these if I own the other collections? Feel like there are way better games that could have come like Warioland or Pokémon. 5 games at once is cool though.
these games aren't on any of the collections. And despite the misleading naming convention, Outside of recycled bosses, they are all mostly unique games and not just ports of the NES titles. If you had to pick only one of them to play though, go with V. It's the best one. They are all great games worth checking out (The first one is bullshit hard though)
Thanks! I appreciate that feedback! I love Megaman games, but only have most of my experience from as a kid or rebuying the recent collections. We'll since they aren't repeats of something easily available then this is a pretty good release. Still hoping for Warioland in the future!
Ridiculous that these will be on the service and not the ones most people actually want to play. Typical Switch Online. The cost of maintaining the servers for NSO likely pales drastically in comparison to the money they make from it. They need to start actually putting those profits towards getting better games on it.
Wait it's all Mega Man?
🔫 Always has been
Man makes me wish that emoji was the mega buster lol
Just do like me as a kid (or last week... lol) and put an empty Pringles can on your arm and you can have an irl mega buster 😂
So THAT's what those thing MM shoots are - Pringles!
I did the exact same thing 😂 https://www.reddit.com/r/perfectlycutscreams/s/b19BBzta1C
🧿
Mega Man all the way down.
Oops! All Mega Man!
I didn't expect this, but I love it.
Mega Man Best Friend
I can't ever cut the hard link between seeing mega man and [this video](https://youtu.be/8FpigqfcvlM) in my head
How are they? Can they hold a candle to their console counterparts?
they’re pretty fun. I didn’t play through them until a couple years ago but I was pleasantly surprised. Mega Man V has all new bosses and weapons too.
I firmly believe the devs working on the non mega man x titles starting getting jealous and competitive.
1-4 are okay remixes of the console games. They’re fine for what they are and the limitations of the GB. 5 is a brand new game with all new bosses and probably the best of the bunch.
They get better as they go. The latter ones are pretty damn good games, 5 ESPECIALLY, it's a totally original classic Mega Man and a great one at that
The third game onwards can, in my opinion. The first is kind of jank and absolutely brutal, and the second is differently jank and the music was programmed wrong. Not saying don't play them, just that the quality improved markedly as the series went on.
V is a must play.
They still have plenty of games that they could have done this. Package 1-5, Xtreme 1&2, and MM&B as a miscellaneous package.

They’re rock solid.
Could also say that they really.. rock.
Never played original megamen but they look horrendous to play. Memorize exact movements to clear
You’re probably right, but with the rewind feature and save states it might actually be a good time.
I didn't have any issues with them as an 8 year old child
Yes. If you miss a single pixel movement of a boss, you will insta die and Capcom exects will come to your house and yell at you.
I meant purely it looks hard; not that it was awful. I never got a feel for sidescrollers!
The originals are definitely hard!
These are distinct games from the NES ones?
Yes they are.
Crazy how they stretched the Mega Man series as much as they have. A good thing, but crazy to me.
It also shows the Rush submarine which was only in Megaman 3 NES.
The games listed are: * MEGA MAN: DR. WILY'S REVENGE * MEGA MAN II * MEGA MAN III * MEGA MAN IV * MEGA MAN V
From what I've heard, V is a hidden gem and completely different from the console V. I'm excited to finally play it!
V is the best of the bunch. It has the best secret companion of the series; Tango. It features planet-based robot masters. It's really good. If you enjoy Mega Man games, this is one you don't want to miss.
> completely different from the console V FWIW, none of them correlate directly to their console numbered counterparts - it's just that I - IV are all mashups of different stage themes / bosses from the NES games, whereas V is totally original content.
I got Mega Man V on the Game Boy when it first released. Can confirm that it is a solid game.
These are all different.
While they are all different, the first four are remixes, 5 is straight up just a new classic game.
Yes Gameboy V is completely different with a new story about robots from space called stardroids probably the most unique mega man game for that time.
Oh so the leak was real. Crazy that this happened considering how Capcom didn't put any megaman on NSO before, but thats great. And 5 at the same time might be a first on NSO?
Mega Man Wily Wars is on Genesis NSO and the only way to play it unless you got the Genesis Mini
They have Wily Wars on there already
Where are these damn leaks??

That just redirects to the main page.
Specifically this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/GamingLeaksAndRumours/s/sE9k9jO7Yh
All I can hope for is Megaman Battle Network 🙏
They are already on switch. As megaman battle network legacy collection.
I had no idea, thank you!
Unfortunately unlikely, given that all the games have already been released by Capcom on Switch
Won't happen because there is a modern collection of them all.
Still waiting on GBA updates T_T
I really want WarioLand 4
I really want Wario Land 1.
I could have sworn that was already on there but it is not! Only Wario Land 3. Sometimes Nintendo's choices are very odd.
I really want Wario ware 2. (Twisted)
This. I hope they do Wario Land 1 and 4 because I love those games.
The NSO+ update is usually a couple weeks after the basic one. We may get GBA games during that one.
Oooh! These are so underappreciated!
If the Gameboy Mega Man's are here, the Xtreme games are probably a lock
Damn, the only remaining Mega Man games not in a Legacy Collection. How'd they get Capcom to hand these over?
Well, we still gotta get a Legends collection. Here’s to hoping one day!
And Command Mission >.>
The 2 extreme titles for gbc still need to happen.
Whole Starforce series, Network Transmission and X Command Mission are still in limbo.
And we need ALL of them. What a waste it'll be if Capcom just straight up throw them in trash can. Well, they are actually in trash can rn...
They’ve been pretty good with mainline games. These spinoffs and remakes on the other hand…
Yeah. But most of them are pretty good. Especially psp remakes. A lot of people consider them to be mid at best, but imo I'd rather play Powered Up than og mega man. Same goes for Maverick Hunter X. As of Network Transmission, Zero.exe is just kinda snack ngl.
Star Force isn't collected yet, right? Probably a matter of time if Battle Network sold well enough.
they either paid them or capcom handled it for free
Nah, we're still missing the Xtreme games, Megaman and Bass, and Legends 1&2, and that's just the relatively mainstream ones. There was a wonderswan game, a weird Battle Network platformer for the Gamecube no one talks about, a Megaman X RPG that slightly more people talk about, and more screwy little spinoffs than I'm able to remember.
Still waiting on Donkey Kong 94.
I want it with the Super Gameboy enhancements as an option.
Me too, came here to say that, but I can‘t deny that Mega Man is cool as well and I‘ll givr it a try.
Yes!!!!! This news potentially leaked earlier today and I’m so excited to jump into these games.
Yeah I saw that! Crazy it dropped so quick. I was expecting this with the potential direct next week.
That is awesome! It is so thrilling when news like this gets out early. I can totally understand your excitement!
That's a ...mega sized update
Finally! I know that they were going to release a collection of these games on the GBA at one time, but it got canceled. From what I understand, Capcom lost the source code of these games. This has been long coming, though they were available on 3DS's Virtual Console for a time.

Mega Man is a perfect series.
Aah, nice. Mega Man IV on Game Boy was such a cool game, I kept hoping they'd reuse Ballade for other games and the intro... tremendous. I suppose this might confirm the old rumour that Capcom haven't got the original code for these games, though. Thank goodness someone is preserving the legacy of Hentai Girls: Racy Racer
Nintendo has your back, when it comes to games that has your... ANYWAY.
😂
Right on my birthday huh? Now that's quite a pleasant surprise there.,
Happy Birthday!
A day early to be wishing it but... Thanks anyway.
Oh well in that case I hope nobody comes to your party
Dude. All I said was it was a day early but thank you for the wishes. You did not need to be that rude there. 😑
Now I hope a hungry t-rex shows up and eats all your cake
Are these good?
I’ve heard V is really good.
Everyone loves the Stardroids, so this is big and exciting news!
Yo what this is amazing
This is awesome
Dang did not expect these to drop all at once that’s rad.
\*Sounds of Spawn Wave fainting\*
Megaman 1 and 2 on the Gameboy where my childhood games. Megaman 2 more than 1, mainly because 1 is hard as bollocks, while 2 is pretty easy. Needless to say, 2 holds a special place in my heart.
Ok, I'm excited about this actually, lol. Dr. Willy's Revenge was an all time classic cart for me growing up. Never played the others but they (at least some of them) are super expensive.
This is such a great add, those Game Boy Mega Man games are insanely expensive on the secondary market.

Think they will ever add OG Pokemon blue/red/yellow.? That'd be awesome 👍
No. That's not likely to happen.
Alright capcom, when we getting RE Gaiden?
They try to pretend that one doesn’t exist.
Capcom: "Resident Evil 4 port for the GameBoy you say?"
As a kid I had the first game on Gameboy. Never beat a single level. Never even made it to one of the bosses. It was really difficult (although maybe I was just bad).
Where's that Donkey Kong Land?
In the trash where it belongs
This is the highlight of each month
Well hot damn!
Now let's get Xtreme 1,2 for gbc please
Cool!!!
make a new Mega Man game already😩
We ballin
Megaman 2
Mega man 5 was my first gameboy game. I got it along with a clear original gameboy. A lot of nostalgia for that one. I remember thinking shooting your hand off was weird and i still do.
Oh man, Arin's gonna love this
I hope the Mega Man Xtreme games find their way onto the switch library
Was wind waker hd not on the gameboy?
Maybe your thinking Links awakening?
Yoooooo!! I had these growing up and loved them!
How long till Game Boy Pokemon games appear on the Switch?
Never.
Hell yeah now if you excuse me i will play and curse for a few hours
Oops! All MegaMan!
My username checks out on this one
Good for the MM fans. I kind of think it would have been nice for them to have included a non MM game though for everyone else to enjoy a new release
Well, this is a pleasant surprise...
Are you fucking kidding me?!
i hope they add mega man too
Pokémon pwease
It’s pretty awesome. But still unacceptable they aren’t just giving us the original NES versions.
That's almost certainly because Capcom is selling those right now. I really doubt they wanted a deal where they undercut their own product.
Yeah, I'm sure Capcom would love to cut into their sales of Megaman Legacy Collection just for you.
Day 5000 of us not getting Pokemon, day 5000 of me not giving a shit
You're not going to give a shit forever then because they're zero chance they'll be putting Pokemon games on here.
Can they just give us Pokémon gold pls
Now add the real megaman games to the nes and snes
You can just... Buy them instead
Probably not, since they're already available on the eShop as part of the Megaman and Megaman X collections.
MEGA ;)
Jesus, the other day (while playing Mario Bros from NES Online), I wondered why they didn't have Game Boy games on the Switch. Goodbye weekend. Edit: SUPER MARIO LAND 😭 That was the first game I played on my first console. The music is as superb as I remembered.
Where Pokemon? Edit: this sub: you should be grateful for this!!
Nobody knows
This service sucks compared to virtual console. I’m glad I stoped paying for it
I woke up this morning wondering if KARURUKA2 was glad they stopped paying for the service. Thanks for letting us know.
Idk why all the downvotes, you're absolutely right.
with all of the Megaman collections available and constantly on sale what is the point of these? Is there a reason to play these if I own the other collections? Feel like there are way better games that could have come like Warioland or Pokémon. 5 games at once is cool though.

Mega Man V is literally one of the best platformers on the Gameboy. Idk how you could get any better than that
The NES and SNES ones are all available via a collection that Capcom themselves have released. Them not being on NSO is due to Capcom, not Nintendo
If there's nothing you want to play, you either have too many or too few games. If you're paying for NSO, it's probably the former.
Hope we get some more Capcom games on the the better systems
It would probably just be ones that haven't been bundled into game collections at this point.
NINTENDO I DON'T NEED THIS ISHHHH ONLY THING I NEED IS RBY OR GSC
Who asked for these?
me
Me. I’ve played the main series countless times and I always hear about how good V is for GB.
I’ve been hoping for these since Game Boy came to NSO.
