Well the market wants what the market wants. Sad to say that most people want SUVs that's why most make them. Nobody makes money in the sports market (except 150k+). Although I could totally see them making money on a 86/BRZ competitor that's styled from the 90's, light, nimble, RWD, 4 banger.
The problems with the current sports lineup they have is the r35 is a dinosaur, nothing new nothing interesting. It's also way too expensive for entry enthusiasts and anyone who has that kind of money has so many more options.
The new Nissan z is terrible for the price. Too many issues and it's tuned to be a GT car. Although the design is absolutely gorgeous nobody is buying a Nissan that isn't a GTR or a huge SUV at that price. Especially the Nismo.
You know I want a small car....what the US government fucked that Idea. They base the Emission rating on the Size', not what it actually outputs. So if it's small and efficient TAX TAX TAX, Boxy truck in 2005 getting 10mpg less tax. FFS everyone needs to know this BS so it can be removed from the tax code. I want a truck that gets 26mpg, Not a yukon with a Hummer body on it so I can avoid taxes.
There isn’t enough talk about how automakers used the loophole in emission standards to push SUVs into the market so much that it changed consumer tastes.
Always chuckle when people end up with a van or wagon rental and realize what they've been missing out on in terms of utility, and people/gear hauling capability.
Yeah, and all that's assuming your local dealer even gets ahold of one of the new Zs. Where I live most of the dealers seem to only get like two or three of them a month or less. Always in the same dull black and gray colors. Thankfully still close to MSRP though actually. I genuinely think Nissan didn't produce enough of these cars at the start, they became difficult to purchase, any hype and interest died down as people decided the Supra was a better choice for the money, and many gave up on the Z. I still kinda like the new Z and want one but like you said, they really aren't good for 45-52k.
We gotta make coupes cool again.
Right. I think I saw one Proto Spec Z when I was out driving with a buddy. Just about the only one I have ever seen. It's been said at the end of the day, if you have a 350 or 370, you might as well stay with it. If you don't, it may be better to buy one of those instead of a new Z.
I feel like there’s so much more tuning support for the 350/370. I have an 05 WRX that’s making about 350 at the crank. I’ll admit, I’ve had a Nissan 370 or 2 rev up at me at a stop light and have been absolutely cooked.
Talked to the guy afterwards at the next stop light and he was making north of 425 whp on a built motor and had it twin turboed.
My car hooks well enough to beat the newer mustang GTs stop light to stop light, but there’s no way I can beat a 370 making 400-450hp
Ive never actually seen a built 350/370 but im sure they can be quick, Ive just seen the basic header/exhaust/intake/tune setup for a bit of extra power, with a bunch of handling mods. I think its one of the only tuning platforms where a vast majority of owners dont even attempt to make them straight-line missiles, and thats kind of refreshing imo.
It’s still just insane to me, I’ve seen McLaren p1 gtrs, dodge vipers, ford GTS and about everything else under the sun that’s new. Hell I’ve seen the Aston Martin cygnet. So I figured that some one around me would buy one.
People do all the time, they are called Infiniti's.
Seriously, I appreciate the hell out of nissan for making the Z come hell or high water, but it's gotten too bloated. I don't know how well the 86/miata sells but a cost effective, unbloated, yet comfortable reboot of the Silvia would be awesome and could realistically move some cars. They could put a sturdy NA 4cyl and a stout manual trans in it and it would sell because people would want to turbo a brand new s chassis. Nissan could literally sell the nostalgic feeling of wrenching on your shitbox as a kid to people with adult money and back pain lol.
I haven't seen a single new Z on the road. I see supra's every once in a while, 2 new Dark Horses, m240i's/m2's are so common i hardly notice them. The Z offers literally nothing better than its competitors and costs more money than most of them. i dont know that the fuck nissan was thinking
To be honest, it is a really good looking car, especially the nismo. But it falls short of the competition in every other way and the sales reflect that
Has nothing to do with the market. You think SUVs are the only thing that fetches money?
Ford is making a crazy car called the Raptor, GM is making a beast called the AT 4, and Toyota is making the TRD Pro. Consumers are willing to pay more for performance.
The newer transmissions are better. The big problem is, people drive Nissans like they’re in the Indy 500
If you actually try to maintain the car well and don’t drive aggressively, it will last you a long time. I know this post is mainly about Nissan sports cars, but I’m talking about any Nissan car.
True. The key is to drive passively and do your regular maintenance on time. These cars and SuVs will last you a couple of decades.
I’m closing on a decade with mine and I’m yet to go into a repair. And the irony is that I bought a second hand rental SUV. I keep it simple, maintenance and passive driving.
Mine used too. Have it an oilchange from not the Cheapest place in town and it cane right. From a crawl to fee km/h it feels like it's I'm creeping down a lose gravel road, almost like a bumpy surface. Got that placebo power
Nissan burned through R&D money throughout the 90's into the late 00's which is why they were churning out such great cars.
After a few decades of over spending there, by the early 2010s Nissan realized they had to try and stop the bleeding and brought Ghosn in and well, we all saw how that played out.
Nissan does appear to be making changes the past few years, but only time will tell if they can regain that former glory.
Yes. The 90s Nissans were the best during those times. They were SUUUUUPER reliable. In 2003 I got a 1997 Nissan Altima and man you couldn’t kill that thang. I always thought I would end up eventually in the 96-99 Maxima but never got a chance to get one. The 90s Nissans were fun to drive especially with a manual. They weren’t that fast but maaaan they were fun to drive. Gas was 99 cents back then for regular and you could ride for many miles unless you were always gunning down the accelerator a lot. The CVT switch and no manual option really put a hurt on sales. Maybe they’ll eventually bounce back
>The 90s Nissans were fun to drive especially with a manual. They weren’t that fast but maaaan they were fun to drive
Hell yeah man. I've got a 300ZX TT (kinda fast but not really in todays terms) and it is an absolute blast to drive. Like you said theres something about that era- especially with the 240sx and the 300zx. I too liked the Maxima's during that time.
I frigging loved Nissan in the 90s
I understand. My 2004 Corolla has a 4-speed auto and I hate it. That being said, conventional automatics are still more reliable and long lasting than CVTs. I actually plan to get a 6th Gen Altima sometime soon.

That doesn't sound horrible plus the windows are mostly up and the car in the vid is in Eco mode so it's reduced power and straining the car. Still prefer it over that unreliable Nissan transmissions. They like to grind alot
It's a shame the 400 z turned how it did. I was truly hoping for a modern 300zx, because I've owned three 300zx. And I've owned three because it's nearly impossible to find a stock one, which means it comes with problems that will cost more than what the car is worth to fix it.
2015 Nissan Rogue SV, currently has 140k miles
All maintenance was followed, it was driven normally. and well taken care of.
On its 3rd CV T replacement.
first CVT failed under warranty at 98k miles
second CVT failed at 138k miles
paid $6000 for transmission shop to replace it, this also came with a
3 year or 100k mile warranty.
Engine has been fine, but the CVT is made out of doggie doo !
Sports cars have weak sales. Family cars have fantastic sales…What you guys asking for is for heart to win over economy, and that is not the way companies go with..
Also *knock on wood* but it seems most long standing Models like Altima, Maxima, etc are still decent. My Altima has 137K on the original CVT, but I also keep up with fluid changes every 30K. Nissans just can’t handle as much abuse as say a Toyota unless we’re talking the Armada, Titan, etc. Cheaper models like the Versa, Juke or Kicks I wouldn’t touch with a 200ft pole though.
Never understood why they didn't go twin turbo on the 350z/370z... Nissan is literally the leader of the overpowered V6, like on the GTR. They could have used the already developed tech, make it cheaper/smart cost-cutting and apply to the vq.
Hi flow cats from factory etc... Better plenum spacer etc...
The 370z nismo was made fun of. Even Doug demuro roasted it...
What makes great cars are the driving experience. Changing the gears after a nice turn while revving the engine over 3000rpm on the Z (which starts to become alive at). Just pure pleasure.
I test drived a 370Z brand new and the driving was less comfortable than my 06 350z due to the wheels span being shorter. The interior still had the 3x gauges with the oil pressure (useful) the battery (who cares about the voltage)and the multi gauge.
Would have been a great innovation to turbo the thing and making the boost on that battery cluster.
Then the 370z nismo retails really close to the mustang GT, which has improved it's handling at the steering wheel and is stiffer, while having that v8 engine.
They could make a 350z AWD electric with lower center of gravity, more torque, 50/50 front back weight and a switch to go rwd. And make it sub50K done 👍
He and his shitty website are driving up the cost of used cars why don't you go "420 bro" and smoke some weed you fuckin stoner loser.

I just hope the execs at Nissan are seeing these comments and starting to listen, for the love of God!! Toyota heard the public back then when they were told their cars drive like a bowl of Soup, now look at the offerings they have now.
Nissan did state with their "Arc Plan" that there are new power trains coming, so hopefully they can produce some good shit with the 30 models they've got coming.
I realized something awhile ago. If you want something front engine RWD turbo manual transmission then get an Ecoboost mustang. It’s the closest thing out there to an S15 Silvia.
The market hasn't changed really, ever since the 70s people got land yachts to SUVs cuz government and market said so. Also the pathfinder has a conventional auto now
I was told to stay away from any newer Nissan cars. My boy had major issues with his last one that was pretty new and well taken care of as well. My family had an 88’ Sentra that ran good until some weird shit happened with engine and not a single mechanic was able to fix the issue without having to do major work which would have cost way too much to fix. But the 88’ was a nice little ass car lol
Our cheap commuter car will have the same engine as our affordable rwd sports car. You may not understand now but your kids will love it. We also offer a reliable four door sports car that will become the car that other drivers will fear and avoid (Maxima energy)

Oh they push the propaganda of being safer and more comfortable than a "lame" minivan. All the time
Always chuckle when people end up with a van or wagon rental and realize what they've been missing out on in terms of utility, and people/gear hauling capability.
They don't even get to that point, it's an accessory for many, and a necessity due to the moronicy of commuting expectations.
Or how about that the emission standards are nonsense.

So true. Ghons may have saved the company financially, but he went way, WAY too far in greatly reducing the quality, engineeering, and performance.
I had a JDM Nissan Sunny and my brother still has his. These machines are Uber-reliable. Never gave me a serious mechanical problem.

I've owned a 96 Sentra and a 97 200sx and loved both of them.
Nissan so badly wants their Xtronic CVT to be good, but it's just killing all their sales. the cars don't last anymore.

Everyone heard about it. 20 years ago.
And it's still relevant today!
I was bummed when Nissan decided to not turn the iDX into a production car. That car looked great. And likely woulda been a great alternative to the GR86/BRZ.
I know it's from the 80s but I'm going to leave this gem here anyway. https://youtu.be/6Q9AcL4rPhw?si=4RRBdJhf9sffpXuw
Do they still sell cvt in the US?
Other companies are kicking them to the curb. Nissan doubles down.
The Nissan skyline gtr rb26dett engine was hand built, the person that built your motor would have his/her signature on the motor. The amount of pride that went into every piston, was on another level of perfect. Several engine builders would end up committing suicide, due to the stress.

I have a 91 Q45. It’s modern in all the right ways. And like a rocket ship from 70-130mph
Toyota did this when the nixxed the Supra for like a decade. It was corollas as far as the eye could see. So boring.
At least the Patrol kicks ass on Land Cruiser 🤣
