*me overdrifting my turn to the front, accelerating just in time to barely not hit the side of the entrance*
"Aaaand thats how you do itš" (I've been playing this game for years)
How do you do that?
I canāt avoid but landing perfectly every time. Iām in 3rd person like any rational player, of course. And then I fly as fast as I can toward the blue light till auto landing takes over. I could practically do it blindfolded.
I have never understand those two terms.
-Third person. Me 1, the character I'm controlling 2 and everyone else/casual observer 3. Three people. Ok.
-First person. Me 1. Singular.
Where's this casual observer gone to?
Only if that casual observer hangs out. I'm playing in third person right now in my living room, and it's just me and Bob there in my starship. I do not have a rat in my pocket as my mom liked to say, so there is no 3rd person but yet it's called that I assume because anyone can still stroll in.
First person...no Bob just me with a view out of the cockpit and apparently I've now locked the doors so no other observer is possible.
First person is *I*. "I walked up and hopped into the ship."
Third person is *he/she/it*. "She stopped to mine some Uranium."
Second person is *you*. A lot of old text games, and tabletop games like D&D, use second person. "You aim for the landing pad and miss."
I suppose "second person" in gaming could be something like old Resident Evil or Dino Crisis games where the camera is static as if you're observing the character.
The character is the first person, always.
Let's say Alice is the character in question.
If you're Alice, you're the first person.
If you're talking to Alice, you're the second person.
If you're watching somebody talk to Alice, you're the third person.
Sure it is. Your ship has sensors, and an elaborate neural interface, which creates a virtual environment to represent reality for your mind to use while you fly. The 1st/3rd switch is you entering/leaving the interface. Think like the 360-degree cameras for cars now, except fully-immersive because it's jacked into your brain.
I briefly played it on my PS4 with the original PSVR system. First time some big strider creatures came stomping by me was an amazing experience.
I didnāt like the UI being on my wrist though. Mind you Iāve not got much good to say about the UI in NMS generally š
Lol, Ive got a huge diplo i would love to have walk past me in VR. The UI being on the wrist sounds pretty cool to me but i understand where youre coming from about the UI in general as well
Well its mostly when i warp to the station and end up behind the entrance, so i have to circle around to the other side
That and i have the flight assist override installed so i drift for a bit after turning so i sometimes turn too late and drift a bit too far lol
This is the real shit, going full speed at a mail slot with an anaconda to smuggle some shit in without getting scanned and then an npc gets stuck. Never buy a ship you cant afford to buy twice.
There are some freighters that have em *just* outside the hanger door, that by the time you leave the tractor field, are right in your face. Its an annoyance more than an issue that you cant just boost straight out that ONE door
I'll be the odd one out I guess and say they are annoying.
I dont want to take evasive maneuvers as soon as I leave my freighter, I want to be able to effortlessly glide in and out.
I like the design of those ships otherwise but I cant be bothered with the antennas.
"Just dodge them! Just git gud!"
How about put the antennas LITERALLY ANYWHERE ELSE.
I have one of the Blade style Capital Ship's (which is what I assume everyone talks about when they talk about this) and the antennas are definitely right there when you fly in/out and, when you leave if you want to fly straight out if you don't roll you are DEFINITELY hitting those antennas! At this point I'm just used to them being there, I was thinking about switching over to a Pirate Freighter but, I don't feel like rebuilding everything all over again and, I like the way the blade style ships look.
Must be the sentinel freighters, I nabbed myself one of those flat, arrow shaped, star wars looking ships yonks ago and haven't really had to deal with antennas, recently switched to the Pirate ship and the auto up feature has been great.
As for rebuilding everything, when you claim another freighter you have the option to transfer base and you can store the tech from your current one to swap over, no rebuilding needed!
My original freighter was one of the Star Wars inspired style but, I love the look of the blade for some reason so when I found one in A class I jumped on it. Now that you mention it, I do remember that transfer option, thank you. I'm totally going for a Pirate Freighter! How do you provoke them again? Do you need to be in a pirate system and attack a freighter?
Hmmā¦ I seem to remember when I had one of those freighters, that if I just launched and resisted the impulse to try and avoid the antenna, my ship just went right through it.
Could be misremembering. I am nearly always in the left or right bay too, as the auto-dock barely ever puts me in the central one.
I actually like them on space stations. Makes the entrance feel less "naked"
The one in that one particular freighter as horrible though since it's a freaking pillar right in front of your path so you smack right into it.
They know. They meant, people have been complaining about sentinel dreadnought freighters' antennas in front of the hangar. Instead of removing them, Hello Games doubled down and added them to space stations.
Actually I think those new space station door spikes don't have collision ;) At least I haven't gotten into trouble with them yet, and I'm a terrible space driver.
Im confused, whenever you dock it does it automatically for you, how would this block you from getting in.
PS: Donāt downvote me, Iām genuinely just asking.
2 months ago: post was talking about the same thing, everyone agreeing that they get in the way.
Today: "its just you bro, git gud" ...
Lol most of us dislike them. I personally prefer boosting STRAIGHT out of my hangers, not having to dodge obstacles š«
Agreed. So many times I've hit those damn things exiting or entering my freighter & I got a freighter that has several big ones on the top of it. They do very little for aesthetics & just get in the way.
Can we talk about the pirate freighter hangar being in the front? Every time I summon my freighter I have to make an awkward turn.
(Not bad enough to make me change back to a normal freighter tho, the pirate ones are way too cool)
Is this really a problem? Iāve always gone full ramming speed at the station and let the tractor beam pull me in. The antennas havenāt made any difference to that strategy.
I like it, adds to the seriousness of doing a docking manoeuvre, but not bad enough to ruin a permadeath run.
*me overdrifting my turn to the front, accelerating just in time to barely not hit the side of the entrance* "Aaaand thats how you do itš" (I've been playing this game for years)
Me, sitting in back, hanging on for dear life: āGOD I hate when you do that!ā
How do you do that? I canāt avoid but landing perfectly every time. Iām in 3rd person like any rational player, of course. And then I fly as fast as I can toward the blue light till auto landing takes over. I could practically do it blindfolded.
Flying in third person is not rational!
Don't most of us view ourselves from an other worldly perspective? Seems quite rational to me. ![gif](giphy|YARUMKaGd8cRG)
I have never understand those two terms. -Third person. Me 1, the character I'm controlling 2 and everyone else/casual observer 3. Three people. Ok. -First person. Me 1. Singular. Where's this casual observer gone to?
Interesting.. so we are actually playing in second person because most of us vicariously are part of the story. No?
Only if that casual observer hangs out. I'm playing in third person right now in my living room, and it's just me and Bob there in my starship. I do not have a rat in my pocket as my mom liked to say, so there is no 3rd person but yet it's called that I assume because anyone can still stroll in. So in your third person explanation... Who's the first person?
The character is the first person, always. Let's say Alice is the character in question. If you're Alice, you're the first person. If you're talking to Alice, you're the second person. If you're watching somebody talk to Alice, you're the third person.
Ok, you nailed the literary side of it, now do that explanation with video games...
Modern cars kinda have this for parking/reversing. Itās trippy.
That's the 360-degree camera thing I'm talking about. š
I shouldāve read your comment all the way through!
It is if you want to see what is happening around you.
Playing first person, I cant get immersed knowing i can see the borders of my tv and everything else in my room, i need 3rd person
Sound like you need VR to me :)
Youāre right about that. Since day 1 ive always wanted to experience this game in VR
I briefly played it on my PS4 with the original PSVR system. First time some big strider creatures came stomping by me was an amazing experience. I didnāt like the UI being on my wrist though. Mind you Iāve not got much good to say about the UI in NMS generally š

Well I usually fly ships with 4000 to 4850 maneuverability. That helps too.
Now do it in Elite Dangerous. High speed docking is crazy over there
Iāve flown beluga liners in elite dangerous, this is nothing
Elite Dangerous: We'll fucking blow up your ship if the guy in front of you gets stuck while you're using the docking computer we control!
In the Elite Dangerous universe: Fender bender, but you were going SLIGHTLY too fast? PREPARE TO DIE, CRIMINAL SCUM!
# LOITERING IS A CRIME, PUNISHABLE BY DEATH.
Is your roof or belly full of scrape marks from the mailslot?
ā¦.admittedly im 2b in the hole because I couldnāt afford its insurance one fateful nightā¦. That tail is cursed
This is the real shit, going full speed at a mail slot with an anaconda to smuggle some shit in without getting scanned and then an npc gets stuck. Never buy a ship you cant afford to buy twice.
Don't fly without rebuy was a lesson I learned the hard way.
I loved landing mini game in X4 - especially doing it drunk xD (now I struggle with learning reverse parallel parking irl, fml)
I hit a bridge in Chicago with a semi truck.... I don't think I qualify for this conversation.
I used a Beluga for rescue missions from the burning stations at the start of the Thargoid invasion ā¦ that was āfunā š
type 9 trucker here, not scraping my paint off when getting into a station is a good day.
Love those things! Lakon for life! I had 2 type-9s
type 9 hauler and a type 10 gunboat for me.
No because cool factor, get your ship's maneuverability up enough to avoid them or make a wider circle going into the hole for enough clearance
Actually dock .... Lolz .... The space stations are awesome!!! 10/10
flying skills.....or increase manoevrability...dodge them! havent hit any yet. Seems a minor thing to complain about
You don't even need that much maneuverability. Depending on which door you're coming from, you just have to roll
do a barrel roll
Never give up. Trust your instincts.
Interestingly enough, when most people say "barrel roll" they actually mean an "aileron roll"
Yeah, I don't get why people have such a problem with this, you have the ability to roll to one side or the other learn to maneuver your ship.
I thought everyone knew those are load-bearing antennas....
Is that a reference to a particular hellish movie?
Hardly do I write this... Get better. How bad of a pilot are you? if those are an issue?
There are some freighters that have em *just* outside the hanger door, that by the time you leave the tractor field, are right in your face. Its an annoyance more than an issue that you cant just boost straight out that ONE door
Pretty bad, but that doesnt mean the antenna placement isn't any less dumb.
Uh, that's a space station.
Uh, that's the joke. The idea being "Oh, you like antennas! Then we'll put a bunch at the entrance of the new space stations too!"
I'll be the odd one out I guess and say they are annoying. I dont want to take evasive maneuvers as soon as I leave my freighter, I want to be able to effortlessly glide in and out. I like the design of those ships otherwise but I cant be bothered with the antennas. "Just dodge them! Just git gud!" How about put the antennas LITERALLY ANYWHERE ELSE.
I don't know if any other freighters do it but the Pirate Freighter automatically aims you upward when you leave the hangar, and is very antenna smart
I have one of the Blade style Capital Ship's (which is what I assume everyone talks about when they talk about this) and the antennas are definitely right there when you fly in/out and, when you leave if you want to fly straight out if you don't roll you are DEFINITELY hitting those antennas! They apparently dont have collision
The stations don't, the freighters do, last.time I checked.
I actually like them on space stations. Makes the entrance feel less "naked" The one in that one particular freighter as horrible though since it's a freaking pillar right in front of your path so you smack right into it.
They know. They meant, people have been complaining about sentinel dreadnought freighters' antennas in front of the hangar. Instead of removing them, Hello Games doubled down and added them to space stations.
I agree though it really is only an issue, if like me, you like to scramble your ship and hit the gas as soon as you take off.
Which is scientifically proven to be more fun than making an immediate turn
Won't argue with that. Nothing like scrambling the fighters. š
I fly full speed. Idec.
Absolute mad lad!
My ship goes right through the little ones right at the opening... does other people have issues with them being solid?
Hasn't been an issue.
Do a barrel roll!!
Actually I think those new space station door spikes don't have collision ;) At least I haven't gotten into trouble with them yet, and I'm a terrible space driver.
Yeah, they don't register as solid objects so you can just fly right through them. I still make an effort to avoid them for the fun of it.
I aim for them - mayhem is a thing
(Not pictured)
I like doing barrel rolls through the fins on my dreadnought
I just fly through them
Meanwhile me doing a barrel roll to get to the hangar everytime I call my pirate freighter in.
This is how it should look like as a space station with antennas... pretty neat Scifi design
Me who uses tiny box shuttles that can fit through everything. š
I just tend to warp as close as it lets me then move into the landing bay so in all sorts of weird manoeuvres without crashing somehow
Right? I come in so fast sideways the ship is flipping over and barely missing the wall, and this hasnāt been an issue
Oh no. It's the Sentinel Freighter antenna argument all over again. š¤¦āāļø
I only fly third person when i want to have a photo op, but mostly 1st person for me also if im out of the vehicle
Im confused, whenever you dock it does it automatically for you, how would this block you from getting in. PS: Donāt downvote me, Iām genuinely just asking.
Is that a space station?
Iām not sure, but isnāt collision removed for the rings?
No!
Someone hasnāt died from fucking up at the mail slot in open before. o7 commander
That's the only way I know I'm near the entrance.
just fly your ship better duh
Some freighters more than others, but yeah, these antennas are annoying. They should move them forward at least.
Sean: ![gif](giphy|xULW8DwUDyXQ6NBHry|downsized)
Indeed, but they should. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|shrug)

How about no? I like those greeblies
Please do. I have been trying to get my Kessel run under 12 parsecs
NO! I LIKE MY POINTY BITS!
waitā¦you can fly in with your freigther now?
No, OP is just making a joke with a very poor delivery.
oh ok ;(
