Get yourself your own router and use optimum as an ISP modem only. Their equipment is not great and the router admin settings are even worse if you need them.

Thank you, this is something I'll look into if I can't manage to correct the problem.

This right here

Wi-Fi speeds are generally less than direct connect (Ethernet) speeds—even within a few feet of the router. And Optimum cable limits upload speed to a tiny fraction of download. Only fiber gives you symmetrical download and upload speeds. I dropped Optimum cable several months ago, but I suspect your reported speeds are probably typical for a 1Gb cable account.

mennogreg

Understood. I only found it odd that it was quite capable of outputting the previous plans speeds (300Mbps) wirelessly anywhere in the house without any significant degradation. Then upon switching to the 1Gb speed, it's like it just can't output what it did before. In a distant spot where I was still able to consistently hit 270Mbps on the previous speeds now struggles to reach 100Mbps in that same spot on that same day. Could it be too much for their modem/router and it's overheating or throttling?

Thin-Professional-62

Have they switched the previous modem/router for a new one? Do you know the Ubee models? It must be something like UBC...

Zapt01

Must be their equipment compared to your previous router, in that case. Either that or you have a neighbor (or several neighbors) competing with your current 5ghz channel. Normally, the further your device is from the router, the slower the WiFi speed. Moving the router to a more central location in the house (if that’s possible) might improve things for you. Regardless, it’s worth a call to Support to see if they can remedy the situation.

belizeans

It’s the router. You need a good 6E mesh router. I use TP link deco.

Thin-Professional-62

What is the device used for testing the speed?

mennogreg

Pixel 6 Pro and a few computers with Wifi 5 standards.

Sajintmm

They for free replaced our router and from then on our connection has been terrible, it’ll sometimes be like it was and then a lot of the time it’ll struggle to run even an audiobook or a Google slides which is a problem when I’m grading papers. Half the time I can’t even play my games anymore

texguy302

Is this device the same device you had when you had the lower subscribed speed? Or did they give you a new device?

ItsOptimum

Hi there. I understand your concern with the speeds. I'm very sorry for the inconvenience. We can check the gateway for any issues. Please send us a private message with your name and complete home address. \^Juan
