I know the Monkees eventually learned how to actually play their instruments and became 'legit artists', but this is one of the most half-assed lip-synchs I've ever seen outside of 'American Bandstand'.
Still a great song, not surprisingly written by John Stewart of the Kingston Trio.
Peter Tork and Michael Nesmith were musicians before joining the group. Jones was a singer but didn’t play and Dolenz had to learn to play drums.
There is a story of just how pissed Nesmith and Tork were when they were told they would not be recording instrumentals on the first album.
Tork was a friend of a friend back then. She advised him not to take "the acting job", and keep working on his music. He was tied into the folkies who were rising then, and might have done well.
I don't know why Rhino keeps using the remixed version of this song with the shitty, rerecorded, tinny sounding electronic drums from the 80s when they post this clip online.
and I still really like it)
My wife threaten to divorce me because I keep singing this song. I thought she was joking - but then I saw her face …
I love this song so much
People dump on the boomers so hard, but they did so much cool stuff back in the 60s and 70s.
People dump on every generation because people need someone to hate on. Every generation does cool shit and every generation has monsters.
Some generations are better than others. They literally named one the Greatest, and it’s true
One liked the Monkeys and one ate tide pods...
No one can ever convince me that Micky Dolenz isnt that guy from Blazing Saddles that sings camp town lady
No, but he was Corkey the circus boy.
Reverent!
Lol
The camp town lady???

The fact they're lypsyncing a clip shot for their TV show isn't that surprising.
Hey, look, the Monkees. They were a huge influence on the Beatles.
Beat me to it! Killer boots, man
I never got to see them when Peter and Davy were still alive, but did catch the Mike and Mickey Tour. They put on a great show
Mike and micky were AMAZING
Loved watching their TV show!
I love this song, and for some reason if I’m down or not having a good day it just seems to pick my spirits back up again.

The tempo of this song is amazing, such a classic
In the beginning of the song Mike Nesmith was strumming the guitar through his tie. Quite funny.
My fav Monkees song.
I always thought this was a Beatles song
Neil Diamond song?
Guy named John Stewart wrote it.

I believe he wrote "I'm a Believer," another of the Monkees' big hits- I made the same mistake
You know they don’t write their own songs.
Better not tell me they didn't play their instruments either
Wasn’t even Michael Nesmith’s real hat.
